I can imagine how bad you felt but sometimes we just need someone to point out what we already know! For me, the 2 times I lost weight (50 and 30 lbs) was after seeing pictures of myself and feeling disgusted by the way I looked! Looking back, I'm so happy that I got that wake-up call...

Good luck on your journey! Don't give up and be patient, you'll get there!

Apophenia: I was thinking the same thing about the low weight goals! I'm 5'1", 127 and aiming for 120-122. Last year, I was down to 117 and everybody (including strangers) were asking me if I was sick... I'm muscular too and medium frame.

I eat around 1600 calories a day with an occasional 2000+ calories day!Embarassed And I burn about 300-400 calories 5 times a week. Since the last month, my weight fluctuates between 124-127 depending on TOTM... but no real weightloss so I'm thinking that maybe I'm at my happy weight...

I find this is a harsh thread... I think most parents try to do the best thing with their children... and there's no such thing as perfect parents...

Over the years, I've learned to appreciate my parents and what they taught me... the rest, I'll learn on my own or with the help of other people (teachers, friends, colleagues...) I'm tired of people always blaming their parents for whatever they can't accomplish (I'm not saying that's what the OP did, it's just a general comment)...

I find it's very acceptable, like previously said, better that than to encourage the diamond killings...

Also you can look into the canadian certified diamonds... They are real diamonds and a bit more expensive that the regular ones...that's what I have and I absolutely love it...and I'm not feeling bad when I look at it as I would surely do if it was a regular diamond coming from I don't know where...

Igloogal: I'm in Montreal, I have a lot (2 full garbage bags) full of sizes 6 and 8, I have suits, casual wear, shoes (8). The 2 bags are right next to the door, I was about to bring them to the donation box close to my house. Everything is pretty good quality. If you want both bags and inquire for the transportation, I'll put them on a greyhound bus for you.

By the way, I'm a short girl: 5'1"... Let me know

How do you calculate your food intake? Do you weigh your food or you evaluate? You may have there part of your answer... Good luck! I believe that if you stick to it (continue to do so in your case), the weight must come off at one point.... (well hope so)...

Fitness Does anyone know approx. how many calories are burned in spin class???? Apr 09 2009
04:22 (UTC)

I used to do spin class with a rate monitor and would burn from 550-600 calories for a 45 minutes class (I'm 5'1" and 125)... To log in my activity, I enter spinning and opt for very vigorous effort because I too sweat like a pig during a spinning class, it's by far the hardest workout for me. Hope it helps

the first thing that comes to my mind is the amount of food you're getting in... I used to evaluate all my quantities until I started weighing & mesuring pretty much everything... I've realized I was underestimated everything... and instead of eating 1500 calories, I was really eating 1800-1900!!!! maybe it could apply to you too? Other than that, I would follow amethytgirl's advice... Good luck

Maintaining When do you consider your goal reached? Apr 06 2009

My original goal was 115... then I opted for an ideal range weight of 118-124... I attained the 117-118 last year but it was so much effort to maintain it (going to the gym everyday burning at least 600-700 calories) and never binging, no wine, no chocolate... I was miserable...

I now go from 125 to 127 depending of the time of the month and it's easy to maintain, I still go to the gym 4-5 times a week but I enjoy myself more, burn less calories each time (300-400) and I overeat sometimes, I drink wine on the week-ends... like a normal person again... so I'm thinking this is easy maintaining for me...

The number on the scale might not be as low as I want but it's realistic... For sure when I look at myself in the mirror I still see the fat belly but I'm learning to love it (better than the total absence of bust of 117!!!)

Good luck....

UPDATE: Ohhh, after 2 days of 1800-1900, I'm up 2.2 pounds.... I'm trying not to freak out because I KNOW it's all water retention, more foods and not actual gain weight.... I'm confident that I'll see results in about 2 weeks... just have to be patient...

Leronia: Thanks for your post, I don't intend to eat less than 1200 ever again!

Thank you very much Jane, I felt a bit deprived at 1400-1500, I'll try 1800-1900 a day (never really eaten that much daily!!!) and I'll see what happens. By the way, I'll turn 31 next month... Thanks a lot again...

Safireeyz, I've read all the comments you've received and even though I agree that some comments were clearly out of line, I think it was expected. When you post a thread asking for people's advices and comments they'll give it to you but it might not be the answer you wanted... Anyhow, I wish that you did get an input on how to motivate and help your husband through all this and wish you both good luck.

That's funny... I just wrote a post asking basically the same question. I'm a bit shorter (5'1") and a bit heavier (125 lbs) but I would like to lose 2-5 pounds more... like you, i'm in no rush to do so... I have pretty much the same food/exercise regimen as you and I don't feel like 1300-1400 calories is enough for me... but I'm kind of maintaining on that....so I'm guessing 1500-1600 calories would mean weight gain for me....

Weight Loss what is normal? Apr 01 2009

Let's say when I eat fajitas at the house, I usually take one tortilla, put a lot of stuff in it and then eat some meat with veggies on the side... that way, the calories don't add too much.... Considering I eat around 1400 calories a day (I'm 5'1" and 125) and that my regular breakfast is around 400 calories, I try to have my 2 other meals at around 500 calories each, so 2 tortillas would not work....

I did an unhealthy diet a couple of months earlier (I'll never do it again) BUT they had various pudding, drinks that contained a lot of protein, that were very fulfilling and tasted good. I'm in Canada, so I don't know if they're available where you live but they we're called IDEAL PROTEIN... They had a really good cappucino, great juices... It might come in handy in a extreme situation like yours... Good luck.... I would also rely on liquid yogourt (yoplait) with fruits inside....

Motivation Positive self image regardless of weight... Mar 31 2009

Original Post by annacabana:

i was actually gonna start a thread like this because i thought i was the only one!  i've always seen myself as thinner than i really am.  i think that's why i weigh as much as i do.  i just never saw the pounds come on.  then every so often i'd have a "sober moment" where i would see myself as i really am.  my weight was always in the back of my mind though.

I felt the exact same way at my highest (160 lbs for 5'1") but I could almost all the time convinced me(and believe me I'm good at that, I'm a lawyer!!!) that I looked good... now at 125, I'm more self conscious than I was back then.

I think it has to do with acknowledging my body, being more conscient of what I put it through (exercise, food)... also I am more conscient of what it actually is because I scrutinize it to see change and I'm still surprise to see a thin version of myself in the mirror instead of just imagining it!
