The Lounge Does anyone see a therapist/counsler? Nov 12 2009

Hi,

I am a counseling intern and the terms "counselor" and "therapist" are relatively interchangeable. I believe others have mentioned that you can get free counseling if you are a student and many offices have sliding fee scales.

You don't have to lay on a couch but you are certainly welcome to do so :-)

It works however you want it to work. Usually there is an intake interview where the counselor/therapist gathers a basic history and you dictate subsequent sessions however you feel comfortable.

It's great to talk to a counselor as opposed to a friend sometimes. We (are supposed to be ) non-judgmental and empathic listeners who do not offer advice but help you see situations from a different perspective. I hope it works out well for you!

The Lounge Do you use self tanners? Oct 31 2009

My skin is naturally fair/medium and I use self-tanners pretty often during the winter. I think someone mentioned the Jergen's gradual tanner and that is a good one. Just make sure you shave and exfoliate before you use it, and don't use is every day. I find that if I put to much on it looks fake, but if I use it more sparingly it looks natural. However, I am not someone who looks good pale, so if you look good with fair skin embrace it!

Lol that was funny.

But seriously, is there anyone you know who would take the cat? Or would your husband let them? I'm sure there are people out there who won't mind cat s*it on their carpet everyday.

Hmmm...so super short, super tall, oddly shaped or big-busted people do not deserve nice clothes either?

Probably 6th grade. I would lie to my parents about eating breakfast and lunch, and eat as little dinner as possible. Basically it was starving myself because that is what I thought a diet was. I did this on and off for years and eventually became bulimic :-/ I wish I had realized I was normal and never got caught up in the whole stick thin=pretty phenomenon.

Weight Loss That skinny girl at the gym............... May 08 2009

Original Post by gg80:

Heres a different skew on that skinny girl....

I was at the gym yesterday, doing a fairly intense workout on the treadmill, I'm on speed 6 at 7 incline...sweating like a horse, face like a beetroot. (I burnt 380 cals by the end.) Then a skinny girl starts up next to me.....she sets it to 4.3....0.5 incline.....and does the lamest workout I've ever seen! It couldn't even be considered a moderate walk it was so slow. So I look around and notice I was doing the most intense workout out of everyone, yet they were all far skinnier than me (I'm 220lbs)

How could that possibly keep them in shape? I wonder how she felt looking over and seeing a 'fat' girl going at it harder than her?

I am not overweight, but I could not go that fast (6 speed, 7 incline) on a treadmill for more than 5 minutes probably. Everyone has their own level of fitness and weight does not necessarily make you more or less fit. I have a really skinny friend and she went to the gym with me once and was about to pass out after 10 minutes barely moving on the elliptical. Plus I don't think 4.3 speed on a treadmill is lame at all.

Nope. I just happened to contact her while the mother was pregnant and then waited until he was 12 weeks old.

It actually was not an attempt at an insult. It was a question. But I can see how people in this thread automatically assume I would sink to their level and be just as rude as they are.

And I do "get it". Puppy mills are evil. Everyone with a heart would agree with that. I just understand why people have to be so rude about everything. Displaced aggression and nowhere else to let it out maybe?

I just want to add that not all humane societies are honest with potential pet owners and not all breeders and pet stores are evil. My old rommate got a dog from the humane society, and this poor dog had tons of medical problems the shelter failed to enlighten us about. She had seizures, gastrointestinal issues, eye-problems and possible mental issues that were not listed on the record when we got her. I got my dog from a breeder (and yes I went to the breeder's home and checked everything out several times before I bought my dog) and I have had no problems with him. This breeder is local, takes good care of her dogs and the puppies, and sells her dogs for a reasonable price. He is healthy and a great dog despite being purchased from a breeder.

I don't agree with puppy mills AT ALL. But I also don't agree with attacking a person for buying a dog at a pet store. Live and let live.

To the OP: congrats on your new puppy! Start crate training ASAP to nip the peeing in the living room situation in the bud :-)

I think a lot of woman with big boobs (who are heavy) use it as an excuse to not take care of their bodies.....like "well if i lose weight i lose my chest" ....it's such bs.  I hate it when woman are heavy and wear low cut shirts. no one wants to see it. do up your buttons!

That's really rude and inappropriate to post on a weight loss website.

Anyway, regarding the OP I think big boobs are wonderful and I am jealous of you big-busted ladies. I am a full C and want to be bigger!

Original Post by pgeorgian:

for the most part, doctors won't say anything about weight unless you ask or it's obviously threatening your health.

actually, the only comment any doctor has ever made about my weight was the one who delivered me, who told my mother, "Whatever you do, don't let that baby get fat."

The nurse at my doctor's office ALWAYS comments on my weight (gaining or losing). I have never been over a 24 BMI (not thin, but not overweight either). I wish she would would shut up about it. If I gain a few pounds I am already depressed enough without her making me feel worse.

As long as you are healthy and feel good about yourself it is no one else's business to comment (and it's tacky to do so unless asked).

Whenever my dog (a 2 year-old Jack Russell) is doing something naughty I gasp really loud and he stops. It's so funny. He rolls over on his back and looks at me trying to act really innocent. I didn't crate train him (mostly because I couldn't stand the fuss he made) when he was a puppy and he took a little longer to potty train than I would like but he turned out ok :-) I agree with socializing your dog as soon as she has her shots. I take my dog to the dog park every week and I feel so bad for the owners who have jerk dogs lol. Most dogs there get along but some people have to leave because their dogs are not able to play with other dogs at all.

I personally think that much ab definition on a woman is icky! I have seen pictures of her where she looks great though! That's just one of the few where she looks..masculine.

I can't think of any guys I know that would turn this down though...

Ugh I have several horrible drunken stories. The worst was probably last halloween. I got hammered before we even left for the bars. One of my friends was a dj at a club we were going to so we got to go into the vip room. Some beyotch tripped me while we were dancing and I got up and started yelling at her. Turns out it was the owner of the clubs girlfriend so we got kicked out. WTF, I still don't understand why that means she's allowed to trip me...anyway, the night ended with me being carried to the car. Fun stuff.

You may have 13 years on me...but I've seen and experienced it too. I've been discriminated because I'm a woman, but I'm not going to teach my kids that they have to pay for the sins of their ancestors. If we did that we would never take one step forward...

That is a great way to put it.

It's not that I want a handout, and I am halfway finished with the program so the cost is obviously worth it to me. When talking to other people in my program I realized tht my GPA and test scores are better. So why shouldn't I get as much funding as they do?

and who is throwing a fit? I asked a simple question. Calm down....

I don't want to add fuel to the fire; I was just adding my personal experience with scholarships.  My school  (or my department) does not offer scholarships to specific genders. I did acquire a Graduate Assistantship through my department. It was supposed to be an assistantship that only a minority student could apply for,  but I guess no one else applied for it or passed the interview process. It was then offered to everyone. My question is this: Why can't scholarships just be based on GPA, volunteer work, work experience, publications, interviews and other criteria? And I was joking with the stripper pole comment (kind of).

Ugh sorry to join everyone in being off topic...but I am in school for a master's degree and all but 2 scholarships offered by my school were for minorities or for minority females. I think it's great that scholarships are being geared toward a variety of people, but that leaves me (a white girl) with two options: take out loans and go into tremendous debt or work the stripper pole. Why can't scholarships just be based on GPA, volunteer work, work experience, publications, interviews and other criteria?

And I do like Oprah and respect everything she does. Her weight is an issue because she makes it one. But if she did not, then someone else would.

Yes! I love it when guys are slightly heavy. I've dated several thick guys. But I couldn't get serious with someone who was extremely overweight (not because of what other people would think/say, but because I would be afraid for his health as we got older).

Well, if you want to start out wearing clothes a button down top and pencil skirt works best with a sexy bra thong garter set underneath. Stilettos are a must.  Start out slowly unbuttoning the shirt and throw it down. Then turn around  (facing away from him) and unzip the skirt and let it drop and step out of it. It's hotter than actually taking it off like you normally would. Lots of eye contact is essential. Push each bra strap down your shoulder and face away from him when you take it off. when its off straddle him and use it to tie his hands behind him ;-)  Let him take off your stockings and the fun can begin. Always make him return the favor lol.

Damn I miss having a man.
