i pulled a muscle in my back and i'm not able to workout as intensely. this really sucks. i don't like my weight loss to depend solely on my diet.

This is one of my favorite workouts to do. I use burpees & squats as my two exercises & can make it through the deck in 15-20 mins (though I need to re-test since it's been awhile).

Thanks for sharing!

@jprt325

if before you could make it through the deck in 15-20 minutes there's a chance that the workout may not have been challenging enough for you. throw some difficult exercises in there too. or include only 3 exercises, such as sit-up, leg-raises and push-ups. those as a deck work out are a great combo. or get funky with it and work only 2 exercises (maybe a bicep, tricep workout).

good luck!

Another good exercise would be jumping jacks since those involve whole body movements. I discovered that they are a lot harder now that I'm a grown up with boobs! LOL Just wear a sports bra if you are inclined like me! :)

@ nillytoots

jumping jacks are the best! they get that heart rate up too. please do wear a sports bra if you must (ya don't wanna knock yourself out and miss a workout!)Wink

I'm going to try this out. I'm going to my parents' house this weekend for Easter, and I know all those decks of cards are laying on a shelf, collecting dust.

Maybe we can variate it and use Uno Cards too, where Wild Cards are 15 and reverse/skip/draw two are all 10.

@ leopardrayne

yes! put a dusty deck to work! it's fun, challenging and your guaranteed to move a little more than without the cards. i'm usually sweating and out of breath by the time i'm done.

i'm so happy that i found this thread. this is my very dilemma. i do own the pink weights (literally). i was really afraid that i would gain mass even though i've heard that it's fairly difficult for a woman to get big. with the 5lb weights i felt like i could literally do them forever (way too light, i know). so i've just began with the 10lb weights. i also didn't want to begin a weight program before i reached my goal weight. i figured that i'd get my body fat down and then lift. didn't want to have muscles bulking up arms that were already fairly meaty. i'm looking for definition and good muscle tone. am i going in the right direction?

Basically here are the rules of fat loss in order of importance:

1. clean up your diet

2. LIFT HEAVY WEIGHTS

50. (cardio)

yep, just what spiro said. good definition and muscle tone comes from having strong muscles and less fat covering them. i was getting a little bigger for a while, but now i've stopped growing (and i'm definitely not meaty), even though i keep lifting heavier weights. i'm focusing more on fat loss, but the way i'm doing it is through lifting and doing a little (not a lot) of high intensity interval training (hiit). keeping the diet clean is the hardest part, but it is essential. don't try to wait until the bfat is down before lifting - it's the best way to get it down!

thanx for the pointers. gonna give it a shot. gotta find a nice sweaty gym. i never liked the feel of a bally's or any cutesy gym. i want it to be all about sweat and grunts!

thank you so much for the advice. now how can i tell if a weight is heavy enough to be considered heavy for me? 10lb weights eventually become heavy. basically, what i'm asking is how many reps should i be able to do with a heavy weight?

btw... i still have no cravings for a cigarette. not with coffee or a drinkSmile those used to be deal breakers for me.

r0sanne:what great advice! yes, the caller was talking about not getting paid and we all know that there can be serious repercussions when a person's pay check is  not  delivered in a timely fashion.

but for those callers who are just rude for no reason other than that they are miserable individuals, i am the antidote. i think i may dance to the tune of a different drummer. i love calls like that. i remain calm, i mean extremely calm, im talkin "stepford  wives" calm (mostly because i know it gets under their skin). i also persistently tell them to "calm down sir/ma'am" (another annoying tactic). i then give them the old "help me, help you". remember at the end of the day, you can't take any of it personally because they don't know you.  there are truly some miserable individuals out there and you cannot allow them to dictate how the remainder of you day will go or how you feel about yourself. if nothing else it becomes interesting dinner conversation or a nice forum post...Wink

don't you find that they tend to make your butt look like it's 3 feet long???

that's why i absolutely hate seeing people in them. it makes their back look like the top of their butts and thus gives them a weird flat butt look even if they have a nice derriere. no matter how you cut it... they ARE "mom jeans" lol

i went to pick up my dry cleaning and from the female proprietor got the old "when are you due?".  i looked at her like she was crazy and told her that i wasn't pregnant. she then apologized and went on to say that because i was eating cookies she thought i was pregnant. it was then that i told her that she had taught me something new, i didn't know that eating cookies must mean that a woman was pregnant. how silly did she sound?  WTH???

love the stars and the 500 cal deficit! think i'm gonna incorporate that with my weight loss strategy.

i have 2 pairs of jeans that i purchased too small. i will definitely be in them this summer (and not in a "now you know she has no business in those too-tight, butt-crack revealing jeans" kinda way). but more of a "DANG she is wearing those jeans" kinda way!

Weight Loss did you still lose weight by keeping this bad habit.. Feb 29 2008
03:53 (UTC)

i soooooo agree with kae03! i have given up or really cut down on so many of my fav food items that i can afford to keep a few things. for instance real sugar! i can accept only one sugar substitute currently and that' s in WW yogurt. i refuse to do aspartame, sweet n low, equal or any of that other stuff. it just tastes awful to me. what's the point of eating/drinking something that's low cal if you can't enjoy it?

btw... i have, however, found a great fat-free half n half. you should look into it. maybe you can buy your coffee at dunkin's and bring you own fat-free half n half. i love it! it beats any low fat milk and i really can't taste the difference from the regular half n half. i buy the shoprite brand and i hear that Land O' Lakes makes a great one as well.

good luck!
