Fitness Spinning- does it bulk up your legs? Feb 20 2009
18:24 (UTC)

i am so happy to hear that others have had a similiar experience (and found spinning does help!)  i really enjoy this type of exercise and i always feel challenged and like i had a really beneficial workout afterwards.  i will stick with the spinning and combine with weight training a couple times a week (at least 2, maybe 3 days a week) and see what type of results i get.  i am eating at a deficit- usually b/w 1500-1700 cals a day (but with at least 1 hr of exercise a day as well) so im hoping to see the scale move downward while i am building muscle and losing inches.  i know its a process (i didn't get my body into the shape it is right now overnight and im motivated to stick with a healthy eating/fitness schedule- so it's only a matter of time!).

Weight Loss Will jogging and walking help make my thighs not touch!? Feb 20 2009

omg, i am in the same boat.  actually my personal trainer asked me last night during our session if i was a runner b/c i had such big thighs (very out of proportion with the rest of my body).  he didn't say it as an insult- it seemed to me that he thought the muscles were a good thing.  however, i don't run so it was a bit awkward.  my thighs aren't jiggly but i would really like to reduce their size- although i understand you can't spot reduce.  i can only hope that as i lose weight, some of the weight will come from that area!  if anyone has suggestions, i'd welcome them gladly!

feex- those colors sound lovely!  i love the pink and purple combo.  you're daughter and niece and nephew will look adorable.  i picked out my bridesmaid dresses a couple months ago- they are tea-length (i thought i wanted a bit more casual/elegant feel- and the girls absolutely loved the gown) dress by jim hjelm.  it is teal (more a rich deep teal as opposed to aqua- if you know the difference) with a unique bow-like design on the right side waist- really cute. for flowers, i decided to go with deep pinks/fuschia mixed with light pink and bright orange- we are using a mix of roses and gerber daisies for the bridesmaids bouquets and the reception centerpieces.  im really getting excited now that these details are done!  i think we are also going to color coordinate the linen napkins and bows on the chairs to be pink and orange-alternating with the reception centerpiece color combos (i know im a dork, but i love this stuff!)

one of the main motivating factors for me and my weight loss journey has been that little white dress.  when i first started trying on dresses- i wasn't very body confident or excited to be seen in it.  now, i am super-excited for the process and to challenge myself to be in the best shape possible for my special day and beyond. i feel so much more alive and looking forward to things in my life (summer, special occasions, getting dresssed up, etc) since i've become more active and eating better.

edunph- i definitely agree that is much more difficult to be motivated to work out when its cold outside.  i hate feeling freezing when leaving the gym at night- no fun!  but i figure, if i stay on track and establish workout dedication now, it will be that much easier when the warm weather comes.

hey everyone...im so happy to have a forum topic about this!  i am defintiely in the same boat as many of you.  i am getting married in september and have been steadily losing weight since my engagement a year ago.  a few weeks ago i started going back to the gym and have noticed a MAJOR improvement in my body tone in that short amount of time.  im currently 135 and looking to lose 10 lbs before the wedding (im 5'6'' by the way).  im really dedicated to eating healthy and staying on track with workouts 5x/wk.  it's so exciting to feel stronger and more body-confident.  my measurements are 35-27-37 and my dress is a size 8 (melissa sweet lia- so beautiful but definitely body conscious!).  i'd love to get my waist down to 24-25 and my hips down to 35.  i think with my motivation i can do it (and if not, just have fun with trying!).

has anyone picked their bridesmaids dresses yet?  what about colors?  i'd love to discuss all these fun wedding plans :)

I am a bit peeved about my non-existent weight loss.  I am going to the gym 5x/week for at least an hour each session.   I am including both cardio and weight training in my workout routine.  On a positive note, I do notice more toned definition in my arms and have gotten compliments about looking good so I am hoping that I have gained muscle weight and have been losing inches.  I plan to take my measurements again at the end of this challenge to compare with what they were at the beginning (hopefully if I don't reach my goal of 130 by the end of the month at least I will have lost some inches!).  It is also frustrating b/c I have been really very good about my eating (with the exception of eating out and drinking 2x this weekend- but hey, a girls' gotta live! and i don't do this very often).

best to everyone!

I tend to weigh myself everyday to keep myself on track and motivated to get my butt to the gym and eat right.  I usually do it in the morning, just after waking and using the bathroom and I find it is a good way to start my day with the consciousness that what I do and put into my body makes a difference.  Also, I keep my scale in the hall closet (which happens to have a full length mirror right there) so even if i might not be losing pounds as quickly as i like- I have visual motivation that my daily actions translate into a healthier-looking, toned body.

I am going to aim to take my measurements every 2 weeks to also keep me accountable and able to see how my body is changing.  Does anyone else keep track of their measurements?  If so, how often?  Right now, I am 35', 28', 38' and I am happy with my proportions- just want to lose inches but keep my curves :)

Restless girl- Thanks for the motivation!

I definitely agree that Britney and Jessica Biel are beautiful...especially as it looks like they both workout regularly (well, britney took a break for a bit there, but now she's back!- just like me).  Shakira is also up there.  I'm also a big fan of Evageline Lilly (Kate from LOST)- she looks healthy and strong and natural- very inspirational.

My stats have remained the same over the weekend, so my officially start weight is:

2/1/09- 136 lbs

I am really looking forward to getting my butt in shape this month- getting back to the gym has really given me an energy and confidence boost.

Claire, I am sorry to hear about your hard time adjusting to your new place.  I am the same way and tend to deal with changes slowly.  It will all work out- once you start putting all your own things in place it will feel better.  I agree that candles really do make a difference- I always feel more "at home" and relaxed when there is a candle burning in my home.  My fiance jokes about how I stock up on candles whenever there is a sale, just to make sure I have a selection to pick from- depending on the season and what mood I am in.

Good luck to everyone this week!

Ozmagirl & Nycgirl-  Congrats on achieving your weight loss goals!  It is so motivating to hear your stories and to know that I can achieve my goals with perserverence and hard work.  What type of fitness plans did you girls follow, if any?  I have heard that green tea also helps shed some pounds...did either of you try it?

Alwhite, it looks like you are on the right track to achieving your "ideal" wedding body.  That is so great!  What have you found to be helpful in acheiving your goals?  Have you picked out your wedding dress yet?  If so, what is it like?  I am so excited/overwhelmed by the wedding planning process!  Wish you the best!

Weight Loss Extreme Fat Smash Diet Jul 29 2008

i just ordered extreme fat smash and the original fat smash books (they came as a packaged deal on amazon).  amazon had a lot (almost 300!) reviews, 90% of them positive, for the extreme fat smash book so i am optimistic.  also, from what i read, there are a variety of people who have had success with the plan- from overweight individuals to people who have reached plateaus and need to get over them.

i am slightly skeptical of the seemingly low daily calorie count- i am concerned about the "starvation mode" issue as well.  i am planning on seeing how the program works and upping my total calories with food items included in the plan if i feel i need to up my caloric intake.

wish me luck!

Weight Loss measurements??? Jul 24 2008

hey leanne... yeah, im just getting started on my fitness routine and the program recommended taking measurements every month.  how often do you take your measurements?  how long have you been tracking your progress on cc/in general?  what types of trends do you see over time?

I'm 5'6'' and the following stats:

Highest weight ever: 167 lbs (2 years ago)

Lowest weight ever: 110 lbs (10 years ago)

SW on cc: 156 lbs (February)

CW: 143 lbs

GW: 135 lbs (Sept)

GGW: 125 lbs

Does anyone feel like there is a certain weight they tend to be when not paying attention to diet and exercise?  My body tends to like 150lbs, when I make healthy eating decisions (without counting calories) and being lightly active (walking 2 miles a day).  The only thing is- I don't feel my best/healthiest at that weight! So I really need to be accurate in calorie counting and regular exercise to lose weight.  This is the first time in a couple years that I have seriously committed to weight loss...so wish me luck!

Weight Loss anyone go from high 140s to low 130s? Jul 14 2008

burnyh, i actually have just started turbo jam and as an ex-cheerleader myself, really enjoy the workout.  the time seems to fly by and i don't even feel like stopping!  so far, i have done the cardio party 1, 20 minute workout, and turbo sculpt videos.  I plan on doing cardio 4x/wk and sculpting 2x/wk to start out.

i used to do tae bo in high school but seem to have misplaced the tapes in my multiple moves since then.  if i remember correctly, they were intense cardio workouts!

i am definitely going to check out ebay in the future when i add to my exercise video collection- much rather have the extra money for new clothes!

it sounds like most of you agree that portion control and smart food choices are the major key to achieving steady weight loss, which makes a ton of sense.  over the past year, i have made healthier eating decisions (most of the time!) and seen an  overall weight loss of 12 lbs (without incorporating exercise- other than walking my dog and to/from train station).

laphipps-  since starting my exercise routine this past week, i already feel lazy/sluggish if i don't get my daily exercise in!  it's interesting how quickly my body has re-adjusted to working out and seems to crave the activity.  is there a certain exercise routine you follow?

aliceyoung- how long did it take to go from 152 to 144?  i definitely understand what you mean about how not eating enuff calories can hinder weight loss- i went through a period of time (a long time ago!) when i would limit my daily calories to the point that i really think i put my body into "starvation mode".  i did this for a couple of years (high school) and then when college came around i packed on the lbs due to increasing my daily calories to what was really a normal amount- my body just wasn't used to handling the increase and stored it as excess weight.  although it has taken some years to get my body back on track, i am back on the right track finally!

burnyh- your weight loss is exactly what im looking to achieve.  i have a little over a year before my wedding and im looking to incorporating healthy lifestyle choices to get down to around 130 by that time.  what type of workout videos do you use?  any favorites?

that's really interesting about how the diet/exercise components can be changed up and deliver the results you're seeing....it wouldn't have occured to me!  maybe i'll try to reduce my exercise a bit along with my caloric intake (which right now is usually b/w 1300-1500) to be on the low end daily, especially on my non-exercise days.

thanks so much for sharing,  good luck with your weight loss, sounds like you are on the right track!

Weight Loss Anybody around 5' 6-7" and 168 lbs? Jul 10 2008

2 years ago i was at my heaviest (169lbs) after stopping jenny craig and regular gym exercising.  i am 5'6'' and currently 24 yrs old.  that past weight put me into the overweight zone and really had me feeling lethargic and had family members commented on whether i was pregnant- how depressing!

anyways, i lost 10 lbs immediately (over 1 1/2 months) using nutrisystem which i recommend to give your diet a kickstart- but definitely get familiar with portion sizes and healthy choices on your own as well to make the transition to your own food easier.

then over a year i lost an additional 13 lbs by simply walking daily (my dog and work) and making relatively healthy eating choices (eating home more than eating out- which was a problem in college!)

i am back on track with really watching what i eat and making healthy choices and exercising most days of the week so i am looking forward to striving towards more weight loss and healthy lifestyle changes!

good luck to all looking to lose weight...stick with it and you will succeed!!

Fitness Turbo Jam Jul 10 2008
00:58 (UTC)

TJ is absolutely the most fun, high-energy workout video i have ever tried (and i have done tae bo, pilates, self workout dvds, and the firm).  it has really helped me get back into exercising.  i used to go to the gym 6x/wk and really work itout hardcore during college.  however, the past 2 years i have gotten off the fitness wagon, so to say. turbo jam has kickstarted my exercise program all over again!  i truly feel like i get an awesome workout each time i do it (i have done cardio party 1, turbo sculpt, and the 20 min workout so far).  i have gone ahead and ordered cardio parties 2 and 3 packages and am looking forward to continuing on the TJ journey.  so much fun!

Hi all...hope everyone is motivated for some serious July weight loss and fitness.  I am planning on getting back on track with my exercise regimen- I used to be sooo good with it (working out 45-60 mins 5-6x/wk) until my life got super-busy.  But I'm done making excuses for not exercising anymore- and I really think it will make a difference in my weight loss (speed it up) and how I feel about my body (more healthy, confident, and toned).

Weight Loss Goal: 10lbs a month! Anyone with me? Feb 26 2008
17:03 (UTC)
10

Hey everyone! I just joined yesterday and already these posts are keeping me motivated.  Thanks to you all who post :)

As I am recently engaged, the thought of wedding dress shopping and wedding photos has prompted me to get serious about healthy eating and losing some weight.

I have been successful with weight loss before and know that if I put my mind to it, I can achieve my goals.

In the past I would get real serious about exercising without truly watching what I ate.  This time around I would like to lose 10 lbs by healthy eating before incorporating a structured exercise regimen.

Currently, I am 149 but would like to be 140 by the end of March (which I think is highly do-able as I will be kick-starting my weight loss routine and eliminating alcohol and excess calories right off the bat).

Since the my last weight loss effort over a year ago, I have conquered emotional eating (which is a biggie!) and night eating (I used to wake up at night and munch...almost without thinking!).  Just these two things have contributed to a 10 lb weight loss over the past year.

I would like to eventually lose 20-25 lbs but I would like to do so gradually over time.

I plan to lose the first 10 quickly to provide instant gratification and a source of achievement.

Wish me luck!
