| Weight Loss | Do I need to deduct extra calories from my "eat" target with hypothyroidism? If so, how many? | Feb 23 2009 22:12 (UTC) |
|
I've been on levoxyl for years. I just lost 72 pounds in 10 months with strict diet and exercise. Minimum 500 deficit, sometimes a little more. I ate broccoli almost every day, did not know there was a problem with it. When the weight starts coming off, you will more than likely need to adjust your meds. My levels went crazy after about 25 pounds, but I am sure everyone is different. Good luck. Just wanted you to know it is possible! |

I am with you. It is close to 70 where I am today and I am in sweat pants and a sweat shirt and barely got off the couch with my warm blanket because it was too cold! Funny, I used to complain about always being too hot when I was overweight. Sorry though, no new ideas for you. |

Unfortunately, yes. They changed it about a month ago. I liked the old stuff, the new formula, not so much. However, even with the switch, I think it is still the best tasting around. When they changed I tried a bunch of different kinds and always went back to light n fit...... |

i haven't tried it. not sure how to exactly. however, i hit a plateau and am only 9 pounds away from my goal. been stuck at the same weight for a while. did get advice to take time off and re-start (i was told a week) so i took last weekend off and did not exercise. i lost 2 pounds by tuesday after re-starting on monday. kinda the same idea i guess. |

Thanks everyone! Will look into zig zagging, or may just take this weekend off (I have 2 parties to go to). I am also going back to work when my son starts school so I will be on my feet at least 6 hours a day, that will change up my exercise routine. RNJT- I know. I have a 5 year old who is 50.2 pounds. When I get frustrated my husband tells me to look at him because that is what I have lost so far!

My week too. My biggest cravings are salt & chocolate. I found chocolate covered pretzels in 100 calorie packs! Hits both of my craving at once! |

I started once a week, but that wasn't working for me. I like to see results of my hard work immediately! I get on every morning after I use the bathroom. I do this to help with unhealthy/bad habits. If the scale goes up a bit I think about what I did or didn't do the day before and know not to do that any more. Also, I am a very competative person (even with myself) and since starting this have only seen the scale go up on a few occasions. It just makes me work that much harder! Everyone is different though. |

| Foods | What to eat BEFORE BED? | Jul 31 2008 13:35 (UTC) |

Before healthy eating I would consume pb&j or cookies before bed. I've been eating healthy/dieting for 5 months now. Did not think anything could fulfill my stomach before bed, but I found that either a 10 cal jell-o or dannon lite n fit, 60 cals actual works and has not affected my weight loss at all, even if I eat it right before bed! |

| Weight Loss | How does everyone feel about carbonated water | Jul 13 2008 15:53 (UTC) |

hasn't hurt my diet. I drink only 3 things....coffee, carbonated water, and just started drinking the special k protein water during my workouts. that is it! The ones I drink are sugar free, sodium free, calorie free & caffeine free. Does contain aspartame, but that doesn't bother me. not quite sure what the problem with aspartame is? |

Hi. I worked full time from the day I graduated high school until right before my son was born 16 years. I worked my way up the ladder and was in a pretty good position when the layoffs came. Could have moved in the company but my husband didn't want to put our son in daycare, so I have been home ever since & yes there were times I would go crazy. I gained tons of weight because I was bored! Put in him into a pre-school setting at age 3 and went out and got a part time job (just to be around adults!) Also, lost tons of weight working :) Took a LOA last summer and haven't gone back due to his new school hours, but planning on going back when school starts up again. Anyway, the way I find time to exercise.......My son in 5 and yesterday was his last day of school. I was worried that I wouldn't have time to workout, so I made a time chart. It starts first thing in the morning until bedtime. Every hour has chores, play time, exercise time, cleaning time etc. with little pictures for him to understand. That way he doesn't ask me every second to go outside or play a game. He looks at the chart and knows what to expect. IT WORKS! He gets his time with me and I get my workout and some cleaning in...Everyone is happy .Maybe your 6 & 4 year old can help with your 2 year old when you want to workout.? |

I actually like the baseball mitt idea! Wish I would have thought of that one a few years ago. I have a 5 year old son. The only problem with that is if you buy a right handed mitt and your son turns out to be left handed, like mine did! At least you have an idea (and a fairly good one at that, I think), I'm stumped! |

I went through a period where I wasn't hungry and was finding myself looking through the cabinets at night just to try to meet 1200 cals. I went out and bought some cheese wedges, almonds, yogurts, special k bars. None of which is very filling when your not hungry, but have 60 to 160 cals per serving and aren't too bad for you. I was also worring about eating and gaining, but have still lost my 2-3 pounds a week. (I aim a little higher in the cal count because I do get some exercise in). I am a true believer in eating= losing.....27 pounds down in less than 3 months.! You can do it! |

| Hi. I am fairly new as well and have had the same problem. I am a cheeseaholic and yesterday I made a grilled cheese sandwich for the first time. Used low calorie bread and butter & even used 3 pieces of kraft singles am. cheese for a total of 275 calories. I think that was the first time I did not have a snack before I went to bed. Seemed to do the trick. Not sure how good it actually is, but I ended up with an A for the day..? | |||

I am 40 (in 2 weeks), started the same day as you, need to loose the same amount of weight. I have lost 9. Sounds as though we are both right on track, except I don't think I am doing it right.... | |||

| Thanks for the info. Makes more sense now. 1750 this site told me is still too much. I used the calculator and if I did it right with a deficit of 500 I should eat 1400. Sounds a little better than 1750 and think I can handle that! Thanks. | |||

| I am fairly new, started 2-25. I feel the same way. They say I should eat 1750 a day. Seems way too much. I have only come close to that 1 day so far. I am averaging about 1200 a day and have lost 9 pounds. Don't know how healthy that is, but I don't get all calories vs. exercise math stuff and don't feel good eating 1750! | |||

| Hi. Lisa here. I am an almost 40 year old stay at home mom of a 5 year old. My story, as short as possible. Was happy at usually size 8, even a 10. 8 years ago dropped suddenly and happily to a size 0. Diagnosis, over active thyroid. Unfortunately, meds did not help, so had radiation which causes under active thyroid and the opposite effect (my luck!) Went slowly back up to a 10. Got pregnant, laid off of my job and ended up a size 12. Between being bored and a husband who loves to cook I made my way up to a 14. Took on a part time job last year and went back down to a 12, even a 10 at times. Took off for the summer to be with my son, and my big downfall, my husband decided he wanted to quit smoking! 5 months later I am an 18! I love food, my husband loves to cook, and I have a thyroid problem. Ugg........ I started this site on 2-25 and have lost 9 pounds! I do ok throughout the day, and have been getting on the treadmill for at least 30 minutes every day. I do not understand the calorie stuff and the site told me to eat 1750 a day. seems very high, so I have been shooting for about 1200. My biggest downfall is late night hunger. What to do so late a night? Help.! | |||
