Personally I find when I am having a tea, I am less likely to snack on stuff. I eat out of boredom often, so if I have a tea or a huge glass of water to sip on, it helps me stop the snacking.

Tea is another form to get water into your body, so if you are drinking it before a meal, it would probably do the same thing as drinking a glass of water before eating. I find that when I drink something before eating I am less likely to over indulge.

The only caution is to watch how much caffine you are taking in and when you are drinking it, because caffine inhibits your body from absorbing some vitamins/minerals from food (i.e. - iron) I normally try to drink mine between meals after I have digested my breakfast/lunch.

it is the caffine, not the teas. So if you are drinking herbal caffine free teas, then you are fine

thanks for the note. It has not been easy. She was just diagnosed in feb, and was perscribed the meds by her GP. She has been to a psycharist once, and then the psycharist left the country, and my mom was not left with a replacement. So, we are now trying to find her another psycharist, which is not an easy task in Ontario for some reason. And money is not an issue. It just seems as though none of the dr.s are taking new patients... gotta love the medical system.

I made a coconut millet pudding the other night that was really good. I have used buckwheat instead of rice in some dishes, and I like cracked wheat rather than oatmeal for breakfast some mornings. Hmmm whatelse... Almond Milk has totally replaced skim milk in my diet. I put ground flaxseed, wheat germ, and bran in my smoothies. Spaghetti squash was my favourite find so far this year, however I did make a morrocan curry with butternut squash the other night which was wonderful... There are sooo many yummy things out there!!

Hey, My mom has been on Lithium since Feb, and she has gained 50lbs. This is not helping with her mood issues (bipolar). Plus the doc decided not to read her bloodwork for the last 2 months, and she has been extremely toxic... not fun times.

Things are getting better now that her meds have been decreased. She is also seeing a naturopath to help with the healthy eating and to try and drop some of the weight. Have any of your heard of any successes with weight loss while on Lithium?

oh man.... not only do I need to watch when I am having my caffine, but whole grains as well? I didn't realize that they inhibited iron absorbtion.... so much for my blackstrap molasses on whole grain bread...  I just can't seem to get this right!!

Are you rinsing the quinoa in a strainer? I thought my metal one had small holes in it, but the quinoa still fall through it. Maybe I need to buy another strainer

I LOVE TEA!!! My favourite is chai tea, with a bit of sugar and almond milk... however I have been drinking more green tea (sometimes with fresh lemon and ginger).

I am having trouble fitting tea into my day now. I am concerned about my iron intake, so from everything that I have been reading, caffine prevents the body from absorbing iron. All of my meals have some sort of an iron component. So, I wait until about an hour after eating... however I miss finishing my meal with a tea...

I found that eating 5-6 mini meals a day helped curb cravings for processed food, as I was always eating. I would not bring any processed food in the house (cause if it is in my house, I will eat it). I would stock up on all kinds of fresh fruits and veggies, pack my lunch every morning with healthy foods, eat breakfast every day, and make a healthy dinner. I didn't allow myself to take the lazy way out and go out for lunch or dinner, and really tried to focus. For the first 2 months I kept a food journal to keep myself honest. Once I had my eating under control, I stopped journalling, and now I will keep track of what I am eating on here from time to time, just to check in with myself.

when I was a kid, my mom made all kinds of unhealthy foods... two that spring to mind are baked beans with fried bologna, and tomato soup with a cheeze wiz and miracle whip sandwich on white toast... Yum!!! ha ha.... haven't had this stuff since highschool... don't think there will ever be a jar of cheeze wiz in my house ever....

oh yeah, and my grandpa made me white bread with mayo and iceberg lettuce... ha ha

this is probably too much for you now as you are not getting enough fiber, but perhaps you can drop the amount of flax/wheat germ/bran and build up to this:

http://caloriecount.about.com/recipe/129116.h tml

I have one of these every morning, and it packs 15 grams of fibre. It is quite grainy, but it is super filling, and quick to make.

I can certainly relate. I have a very rapid heart beat, and decided last year that I was not going to let it get in the way of me running. I ran my first 10K last year, with walking breaks, and finished it in 1hr 15 mins. This year, I ran the whole thing, and finished just under 1hr 10mins. I was thrilled. (it sounds as though you are walking almost as fast as I run!!!)

Keep at it!! That is awesome!!

Had an out of town paddling competition this weekend. While I was active, I ate a fair bit as well. Got on this scales this morning, and was 147lbs... however I think some of that is swelling from being on my feet all day saturday and sunday, then flying home this morning. Flying makes my legs swell. I'll give it a few days, then weigh again. I should see that drop again.

Paddling was great. Made the Competitive B division final, and came in 8th. We were very happy with our results. it was lots of paddling, and lots of fun.

We were in BC, so had sushi on friday night, and fresh salmon on saturday... the fish is so good out there!! blew it a bit last night. Attended the paddlers afterparty, and had a burger just so I had some food in my stomach before drinking. Had 4 glasses of wine... which were about 5 oz glasses. Better than some of my other drink choices!!  got home after the party, ordered a pizza, and had 3 slices (BF ate the rest of it)... ah well, we were active over the weekend.... it was worth it!!

I have had a spaghetti squash sitting in my cuppboard for weeks cause I have not had the time to cook it in the oven (40+ minutes)... didn't know you could microwave it!!! Hmmm... may have to eat that for dinner tonight. Plus I have some turkey breast meat in the freezer.... cook the turkey in garlic, pepper and olive oil, top it on the squash... and have another veg on the side... or a carb... good idea!!!

my weaknesses are chocolate anything (even my baking chocolate chips), ice cream, potato chips, anything with sugar, nachos and salsa, Mmmmm....

If any of this is in the house, it is all I can think about... so it just does not come in the house.

Plus, I am now 2 weeks off dairy, so that is another reason to not buy ice cream or milk chocolate!!

hey all, had a fairly active week last week, lots of paddling as always. I was at the gym yesterday, and I am at 142lbs. Still about the same. I did my weight routine last night, and I think I will be going for a run tonight. This weekend we are going to Vancouver for our first dragon boat festival. Will be walking and paddling all weekend. Should be fun. I think I will try to get a run in while I am there as well, depending on what times we race at.

personally I like it just on bread, like peanut butter, we grew up eating it that way. My mom used to make molasses cookies as well, but I haven't had those in a long time. I am looking for more ways to use molasses now as I am trying to increase my iron, and the calories are not too high for the benefits it offers.

Mmmm.... I had brought a healthy curry lentils and chicken dish for lunch today, then my buddy called and invited me for vietnamese... Yummy.... grilled pork with rolls on rice noodles!!!  I couldn't stop and ate the whole bowl. I'll have to work extra hard tonight to burn this off... ha ha....

does anyone have an approximate calorie count for a rice noodle bowl with meat, veg, and spring rolls?

for me it is not worth it to be 120lbs and only eat 1500 cals a day. I happily eat about 2000 a day, and I am about 140lbs. I work out a lot (at least 1 hour to 1 & 1/2 hrs a day) and I am still loosing, at a very slow pace. But, I am HAPPY!!! I am not restricting myself to the point that I need the binge days. I eat about 3 pieces of fruit a day, my cereal with almond milk in the morning, about 100 cal worth of almonds, a container of veggies and today curry and chicken for lunch, and I will be having a proper dinner (some kind of protein, carb, and lots of veggies). Plus, I am indulging in wine tonight too!! Yum...

Don't sweat it if you are eating a bit more.

I had many days like that, especially in France. I'd buy a yummy fresh baguette, and a tub of nutella, and that would be my breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the day. SO YUMMY!!!

I did a lot of hiking when I was there, through italy, france, austria, and switzerland. Some of them were really challenging hikes (4 day, 3 night, hiking from mountain hut to mountain hut) and it was a blast. Plus, it powered though the flab. I ate whatever I wanted when I was away (within my budget) and still came home smaller.

Be proud of what you did accomplish while you were away, and know that you can still work on the rest of it now that you are home. :)

Weight Loss After your chest has shrunk... Jun 12 2008

I am having issues with being comfortable in my bras now. I was a comfortbale 36A, and now my chest measures 32inches under my bust (not that there is much there really).

If I put on a 34A, all I can see is it cinching into the bits of remaining flab that I have around my chest, and it is bothering me. Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm really not that big anymore either. I am 5'5", 145lbs, 32in chest, 28in waist, 37in hips... grrr

So, I am still wearing my 36A for now until I can feel comfortable in a 34.... :(
