Young Calorie Counters If you could have the body of any celebrity who would it be? Jul 18 2008

Lily Cole - for the height mostly but she looks good, too.

Beyoncé has great curves but I'd choose to be taller - she's the same as me (5'6)

However, a great mix of the two is Leona Lewis. She is so beautiful (such a pretty face!), around 5'11 and has a beautiful shape.

I say I've stopped. I really hope I'm wrong.

Did your mom have a growth spurt late? Thats the kind of thing that runs in families. I want to grow some more. I'm obsessed with it and annoy my friends with constant growth chat. I'm around 5'6 (I fluctuate, so I range from 5'5"-6")

Hi, for those wondering, I do try to stick to 40%carbs, 30% fat, 30%protein but this usually doesn't happen. Its usually more like 60carbs-20-20.

I wont do big weights, I might consider get some light ones but I'll concentrate on sit-ups ect for now. I aim for accuracy regarding weighing food, I'll measure with spoons or a scale whenever possible and use units when logging food like 'piece', 'slice', 'small/med./large'.

I'll just carry on with the advice -thanks!

I know its abit late but thanks for the suggestions!

I've tried this honey method: Put a blob of honey on the rice cake, not too much microwave for 30secs approx. It'll bubble thin out and sink into the rice cake when its solid it makes a sweet , not that stick treat. Yum!

Think I'll get flavoured ones, much less hassle.

Are you getting taller?  Are your bones getting denser?

Unfortunately, I reckon I'm done growing taller.

I'm a 22 year old male, 5'11" and 195 lbs and I'm eating 1800 calories a day.  I think if you're trying to lose weight, you shouldn't be eating more than 1350.  I think that may be part of your problem.

I would seriously eat fewer than 1800 calories a day though.  That is what most guys I know eat to maintain weight.

Does this apply dispite my age? The Young Calorie Counters forum stresses 1800 is the bare minimum for teens.

Yeah, I'm also interested in Bio-Oil (also available in UK). Judging by reviews on the internet, the people that it worked on it REALLY worked but it didn't at all for the others. I haven't bought it because its so expensive for a little bottle. I use Palmer's Cocoa Butter instead everyday. I think mine are fading.

I say its 50-50 chance it'll work (judging by internet reviews) but I'd also love to hear (read) some success stories.

The Lounge What is the American Stereotype? May 11 2008

I live in Britain and to be honest Americans do get lugged with the stereotype of being fat or overweight.

In my geography lesson once, we were talking about how the world's wealth and food was spread out and we were looking at some facts and one of them was, '1/3 of Americans are overweight' and some boy went, "how old are these facts? Oh, it's probably about three-thirds now."

I went to visit Florida in the Summer, I did notice proportions were quite big and a lot food was odd processed stuff. There will always be fatty fast food places of course but its not like other countries (like Britain) aren't catching up weight-wise. My dad, when we were in Florida, kept remarking that there were quite a few large people too. He's overweight himself and even said he felt better because there were other larger people than him. It wasn't like everywhere you looked there was somebody dangerously obese but there was a few more than you'd normally see.

Oh, and French people - known for being thin right? This TV show probably just played off their own stereotype.

WHY did my mum marry a short man?! I suppose he looked a bit taller when he was younger because he was thinner, or wooed her on stilts (?)

I'd love to be that height aprii good luck achieving it!

Wow. Thanks for your support guys. I'll make sure I say something next time and make it clear to my parents it can't go on. She's been OK since, which is kind of putting me on edge because I expect her to do something about it. Writing things out totally helps! I believe I'll come out stronger in the end.

Thankyou so much, again.Smile

Yeah, sugary syrups would. And cough sweets like Soothers or Halls.

Even the sticky stuff on envelopes do. I think its 2 or 3 cals but I remember a local news report about the calories...weird.. maybe they were reduced.

Thanks for replying.

They do recognise that she's not very nice. They do notice. There are always arguments which end in tears especially with my little sister of little things like the remote and stuff - I don't blame her for fighting back, she's set that example by the one thats fighting her. We all get fed up, sometimes I just feel like not defending anyone and just going out for a walk, I understand my parents not doing anything too drastic. It'll carry on. She's been shouted at and been told to stop. Its not just sudden, she's been argumentative and the 'badly-behaved' daughter that pretends to be nice elsewhere since I can remember. It just feels like something we have to deal with. Besides its not full-blown fights she leaves scratches and will dig her nails in but won't do anything too damaging. She's not horrible all the time, she'll act OK unless theres an argument.

Well, the issue is that I've read about friends/sisters/twins (she's not my twin, she's older) having competitive diets and it all ends in tears. There's been no real fights today. Just her 'nicer' self. But I will adress the fighting to my parents again since my little sister's involved.

I feel really bad about the things I wrote. Has anyone been told they're not as good as anyone else and that's spurred them on to drastically diet? I probably would. I only wrote it to make myself feel better. Should I just leave it until she raises the issue again?

Really! I bought a pack of almonds yesterday and wolfed it down within hours. The pack claims its 614kcals - ouch. But luckily I didn't overeat.

I find them so addictive so I'm kind of glad they're gone. Anyone else do? Is it me who just can't help herself?

Actually, pale skin is still considered very desirable in a lot of Asian countries (like Japan, for example). Sometimes I wonder if its because Asian people commonly have a darker skin tone and Europeans have naturally lighter skin. Almost like, you want what you don't have.

Yeah apparently you get laughed at in Singapore if you want to by fake tan. (Well thats what some person on TV said.)

I think its a shame people bleach their skin and its kind of icky or tan it really. But we all want what we dont have after all.

Yeah, if you look at Japanese Noh Masks you can see how small changes were made to indicate how beautiful, young the character was by those features as well (like eye-width, lips). And that Queen Liz was a little trendsetter - everyone started copying her, paint-face-with-egg white thing tsk.

I reckon it might be because everyone copies eachother, something different and daring comes along that people deem attractive, everyone copies that, everyone looks the same again and then...

Well obviously body shape has changed, to state the obvious on CC. From full figures, corsetted waists, marylin monroe hourglasses, Pam Anderson topheavy, Twiggy boy shapes and Kate Moss heroin chic. To support my statement, Twiggy and Mossy came at times when models weren't quite as thin (or as [relatively] short) as them.

Weight Loss Do men really prefer curvier girls? Apr 14 2008

I reckon men understand the word "curvy" differently. Because when I'm looking in magazine's people who look like they're from Dove adverts strike me as curvy but perhaps to men it may be someone thin that has boobs and a bum but not particularly a tummy thats out of shape; hourglass. But then again sometimes thin isn't thin enough for women and you can never be to thin and curvy is becoming a scary word like a kinder term for 'fat'. (It seems, but I aint 'fraid-a no contours)

My mate introduced me to Curb Your Enthusiasm and lent me the first two seasons - is there like 10 now? I dunno, I don't think its aired on UK TV anymore/at the moment.

Yeah, so I absolutely wet myself with laughter. But its the kind of thing that doesn't suit everyones fancy, its a certain kind of humour. My favourite moment is when he makes a comment about Wanda's ass when he drives past her( "I'd recognise that ass anywhere") and Wanda and Cheryl confront him at home. I'm like crying thinking about it! Great stuff.

I loved Enchanted! Although Lion King 2 is very good, it annyos me a bit how the are making sequels to Disney animated films from decades ago (ie Bambi, Jungle Book, Cinderella). Although my little sister got Cinderella: A Twist In Time and we all sat down to watch it - loved the storyline.

Weight Loss 5'6" ladies here please Apr 11 2008

Im around the same height. I thought I was 5"6  but recently ( i measure my height a lot) I seem to be only reaching 5"5,5.  Annoyingly. Would love to grow taller.  I'm at the beggining my weight loss journey at 155lbs but only really focused this week as the past three have consisted of heavy schoolwork and a nice lazy holiday. I'm aiming for 132lbs at first. But I gained a few as I discovered I was an undereater (not delibarately) but can't face the scales.   So at least big 25 to shift. aah. Aiming to lose 1-1.5lbs a week. All a bit confusing,  don't know much about weighloss science, I'm only 15 so I'm told to eat 1800 unlike adults who can eat quite a bit less. I agree with thelonereed some people seem to be burning way more than 1000 a day, super-fast!

Original Post by bre54321:

"So do I only have to eat 1800 then I could burn 500 of it or does my body not really 'care' as long as I eat my BMR worth? Because I could eat, excersice, eat and be less than 1800..."

Say you eat 1800 and then burn 500 exercising, you'll need to eat some of those calories back so you don't go below your BMR.  1800-500=1300, so you should eat 250 calories back to get up to 1550.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is how I understand it.  Hope that helps.

Can this be clarified for me please?

Original Post by thegirl:

okay... maybe im being negative... *gulp*... but its depressing me that i come to read this thread, hoping to hear from girls who are overweight, being positive about their bodies, and instead... its a bunch of skinny teenage girls talking about how much they love themselves for the most part, and some of them sound downright concieted...

this just depressed me more than i was already... im sorry if its wrong of me to feel this way, im not trying to offend anyone at all! im just being very honest in saying i think there should be a completely different forum for girls who are currently or formerly anorexic/bulemic... it does little for the self esteem and realistic goals of girls who are overweight... quite frankly it makes me feel like maybe i should just go throw up my lunch so i can be skinny too...

im sorry if this is rude, but i dont feel comfortable sharing my concerns with being overweight, with a bunch of girls who are literally half my size...

Heh Heh. Not me. I am no skinny minnie! That's why I'm here (on CC), I'm not having a go at you at all but I'm also overweight and also get days when I'm like, "I hate everything about me" and I do feel I am weigh(!) behind other girls on here but then again I don't even know their statistics.

I did sort of feel like you when I came on this post ( Must you all have great legs!!! Yell) but no matter how small you think it is (like dimples or freckles) everybody has some good features.

Please keep strong and keep positive. Doing something like throwing up your lunch (I'm not sure how serious you were) will do you way more harm than good and will only make it harder.

This is a really great thread! Spread the positivity - I'm feeling awfully down at the mo.

Yeah, I've never really had skin problems either - but I hope I didn't just jinx it and a whole mountin rangeof spots is waiting in the post. But I'm happy my skin is clear.

I quite like my skin tone as well. Its quite radiant. Except for in the cold cold winter when I look like I have jaundice.

I also like most of my forearm - like the back of my hands but not my fingers and I like my wrists. Apparently they're the sexiest body part (of every body). My forearms are pretty slender until the meet up with my upperarms Undecided but hope I can fix that

Weight Loss how big a problem is under-eating? Apr 06 2008
18:13 (UTC)

Yeah, I had trouble eating normally again. I would struggle getting over 400 and if I ate 800 I felt stuffed but you've got to up your calories if you want to lose the weight. Some people suggest you go up to whatever number the site suggests immediately or increase by 100-200 per day. I tried the latter method but it took me a dramatic three weeks to eat the calories I needed but I have lost some weight since then. Don't be afraid of an extra mouthful of food! Undereating is NOT good.
