Cheer...I'm not an expert by any means, but most of the places I've heard people saying 1-2 lbs lost per week maximum. Not really sure as to the dangers of losing more---however, you might be left with excess/saggy skin with super-rapid weight loss (which is a big deterrent). Not pretty. On another note, I hit a milestone today. 50lbs lost! Not bad since joining in February! I totally forgot that marker was creeping up until my account said it this morning :) Lastly, a recommendation. I get super-bored with exercising (and I've always hated it), but I've found something that I like. If you haven't tried the Turbo Jam videos, I think they're pretty good. The instructor, Charlene, is upbeat without being irritating. I've had great success with the Turbo Jam Fat Blaster DVD (check it out here)...which has 4 turbos. So if you're looking for something new, give it a try. |

CW: 177.5 1 week loss: -1.5lb Went to my Godson's birthday bbq party yesterday (and overate Greek food, as to be expected). People kept telling me that I looked great--which made me uncomfortable. Is that weird?? I should be proud of my progress (which I am, but just not publicly). I dunno. |

Tindlea, I have the same problem. Weekend eating is always hard with events and restaurants and stuff. The scales are not as friendly on Mondays for me either. I try to combat my poorer weekend eating habits with more exercise. And on Mondays I try to eat mostly veggies. It doesn't always work, but I feel a little better about it ;)

I tried level 2 this week and it kicked my butt! I like to alternate it with Turbo Jam to give my aching muscles a bit of a break...plus the variety helps. Glad to see I'm not the only one out there who was sore after ;) haha! p.s.- Balehead, nice pic! I've liked him since i was 12 years old...Newsies, anyone!?! |

I think the smaller group size is a good idea. Some of those groups with hundreds of members...it just becomes dizzying ;) But whatever everyone wants to do is fine with me! |

I'm in too :). I'm standing up in a wedding in February (and have a bachelorette/beach thing in January), so 25lbs by January sounds great! I'd love to feel good in the halter bridesmaid dress.
Age: 26 Weight: 180lbs Goal: 140lbs (for now...though less would be great) |

You might want to check out Better N Peanut Butter. It's all natural with no trans or saturated fats...100 calories for 2 tbsp. I personally prefer the taste of regular peanut butter, but you might like it. The website has nutrition and a store locator. Tristesse, what brand is the peanut butter + flaxseed? |

Sometimes the Hungry Girl Website has some good ideas (ie: using crushed fiber one to coat chicken)--& they have recipes for all sorts of stuff. Some are not-so-tasty, some are GREAT. |

I second the Hungry Girl website suggestion. They have a LOT of great suggestions, depending on what you have a taste for. I made their frozen chocolate cheesecake nuggets yesterday--so good (and only 42 calories for 2)! |

I was excited to find the mini cans in low sodium this past week! I REALLY need the extra veggies....but I'm a little afraid I won't like the taste. I've never had V8 before. What's the best way to have it? Plain? On ice? With something added to it?

Maddog...thanks for the suggestions! I'm trying to incorporate more exercise and find more things that are fun for me so I can stick with it. I picked up a jump rope the other day (a throwback to my childhood), but it killed my knees haha. It was fun, but I may have to work up to that ;). (If the weather ever consistently stays warm) I hope to get back in the lake and do some swimming ;) I looked up Turbo Jam on Amazon and people really seemed to LOVE it (it got pretty stellar reviews) so I decided to order it. Thanks for the tips!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep up the good work everyone!!!! |

I just got measured for a bridesmaid dress yesterday...for waist measurements you generally measure at the narrowest part of your waist. http://www.soniasbridal.com/howtomeasure.htm http://www.crosstrainer.ca/help/measuring.htm If you're looking for more extensive measurements, try a google search. They tend to show a lot of that with regard to dress making. They even have some videos. Hope that helps! :) |

I'm a big fan of the Turbo Jam Fat Blaster edition. It's a 30 minute workout with 4 turbos. The cuing isn't the greatest, but once you've done it a couple times you don't really notice anymore. I've found it very effective for losing pounds and inches! |

| Fitness | Help--I HATE working out!!! | Jun 03 2008 15:46 (UTC) |

Thanks for the ideas guys! Unfortunately the hospital is too far for me to walk/bike (plus I'd have to go through some dangerous neighborhoods on the way). However, I do try to incorporate some exercise there by only taking the stairs (as much as 10 flights at a time). The library and Netflix are great ideas! I didn't know Netflix had exercise videos ;) And I haven't seen Richard Simmons (and his sweatin to the oldies) in a while-- not since high school aerobics class! Now with the weather improving, hopefully I'll be able to get out more. My schedule is just so wacky that it's hard to build it in consistently. Thank you for the ideas! I'm always looking for creative ideas |

Congrats damsell!!! That's fantastic and you should be proud :) You're great motivation for the rest of us. In 3 months I have lost over 30lbs, mainly through changing my eating habits. I'd say that I can see the biggest change in my clothing. My jeans used to fit rather tightly and now I can slip them on without unbuttoning them! I really should buy better-fitting clothes, but I'm still losing weight so I'm holding off :) Instead I repeatedly put them in the dryer to shrink them down a bit haha! My next goal (besides continuing the weight loss) is to incorporate more exercise. I HATE to work out. I'd rather cut down on calories eaten than work out. I know the benefits, but it's hard to get motivated. I don't find it fun. I have a little stairstepper machine that gets old after a while. And I have very little time. Anybody have any tips??? |

Smelling the buttery popcorn and listening to people munch sometimes becomes overwhelming. I'd rather have some healthier snack alternative on-hand to avoid the concession stand ;). Thanks for the tips, Reddy! |

Hi Kris! Welcome! I think you've come to the right place, I've found this site extremely helpful in getting support, advice, and great tips (on everything from nutrition to exercise). In the 3 months since I've started, I've lost over 30lbs. My clothes are looser, but more importantly I feel better and more energized! It IS possible to lose weight (always a struggle for me) and this is a great site for getting some help. I echo the other posts here, baby steps is key (I usually set biweekly goals of 2-4lbs). I also urge you to play around with the website. It has a lot of tools and facets that I didn't notice when I started. I wish you the best of luck!!! You can definitely do it and we're here to support you! |

| The Lounge | This really bugs me | May 31 2008 19:47 (UTC) |

It reminds me of a ABC "What would you?" segment. I really enjoy the "What would you do" shows...which cover how people react to everything from racism, to domestic abuse, to people with toilet paper sticking out of their pants. I remember one that covered handicapped spots (check out the video): http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/WhatWouldYouD o/story?id=4377983&page=1 On a personal note, I agree with you. My grandmother is disabled from a car accident (that left her bones held together by rods and pins)...and she frequently refrains from parking in handicapped parking because she doesn't want to take it "from someone who needs it more." She has a handicapped sticker, but won't use it unless there are many handicapped spots available. If a person can go on the treadmill for 5 miles (which my grandmother could NEVER do), I agree they can probably walk from a farther spot.

| Foods | What's boca ground?! | May 27 2008 00:54 (UTC) |

It's definitely soy. I prefer the patties to the ground boca (texture-wise)...but that's just me. http://www.bocaburger.com/product_meatless.ht ml The only thing you have to be careful of is the sodium. Most of the products are pretty high in sodium. If you're not a vegetarian, I also recommend ostrich. It's a much leaner red meat...and you can get ostrich patties (for burgers) with 110 cal and 1 gram of fat. Delicious!

Thanks for the info, aocean! I'm very particular about the texture of things, so I'm curious to taste the angel hair. If I try them and have the same reaction...I'll have to keep looking for a better pasta substitute. Did you find another alternative?? I love pasta, but it kills me to waste calories on it ;) |
