Weight Loss On a quest for the illusive gap between the thighs - (closed) Oct 14 2008

I also think its fine, as long as its done in a healthy way. I myself don't really need to lose much weight, I am 5'5" and 139ish... however i STILL dont have a gap between my legs. I am trying to work out and lose a bit of the flab that is still on my legs, but my upper body is easily 1-2 sizes smaller than my lower body. I believe my waist is around a 28, yet my thighs are like 21ish or something, so basically my thighs are almost the size of my waist. lol !

I am in for this though, I probably won't report on weight loss progress as I probably won't lose very much, but I am hoping to gain a bit of muscle and lose some flab and maybe that will make my lower body a bit smaller. I will report on my inch progress. :)

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile, things have gotten hectic and next week are my exams ! Lots of studying, booo.. My main worry is that after next week I won't have access to a gym as I live in a very small town. I am going to be running outside, I live in the country so it's kind of pretty out there. I am worried about losing muscle, but am thinking about asking my parents to buy me a gym membership to somewhere that is about 30 mins away, and going there 2 or 3 times a week when I want to lift weights. We will see I guess..

The good news is.. I lost another pound ! It's not much, since it has been 2 weeks or so waiting for it to come off, but I would still be happy if it took me another 3 or 4 months to lose the last 6 pounds, as long as they come off eventually ! I have noticed that I am looking better, and just want to start fitting into my tight pants (size 6's I think) again. Well I can fit now, but it's a really sad and scary picture, muffin top and the painted on effect haha.

Congrats everyone on their weight losses !! We can definitely do this !

And Ida, don't be discouraged, injuries are hard to cope with but remember that your diet is more important than exercise, and weight loss can still be achieved while you are recovering from the injury. :) And I can't remember your height, but 1300 calories does seem very low, I think people only eat that little if they are extremely obese and have a lot to lose. I'm 5'6" and I eat around 1500-1600(when I am being good), and I still think that I could do 1700 and lose weight since I cheat quite a few days on my eating and still seem to be losing weight slowly.

Wow, this sure is a split-discussion! It seems there are definitely two separate sides, and I'm not sure there is a right or wrong side...

However, I do feel like she doesn't look very healthy. And hgiel, if you did not have PCOS you would likely have weighed a lot less back then, but I doubt that this woman has that problem, or at least it has never been mentioned on anything I've read and if she had a really healthy lifestyle she probably would not be as big as she is, especially at the age of 17, when most people are at their smallest sizes due to higher metabolism, more active lifestyles, etc.

If shes happy with how she looks then that is great and I definitely think she should be allowed into the competition, but I don't think she is exactly a poster child for a healthy lifestyle. Most people that are active and eat well are not of her size (unless they are losing weight, as many people on this website are, but almost all that are successful will end up with a weight a lot lighter than 176 for a woman).

Live and let live, it doesn't offend me to see her in a bathing suit, I think she is quite a pretty person and as someone who isn't a fan of the idea of beauty pageants, I kind of like the fact that she doesn't look like the rest of the "Barbies".

I have not been doing as well lately with eating.. My goal is about 1500 a day, but I have been finding myself eating closer to 1600 a day during the week. I apparently burn abouy 1750 on the days I don't work out, and I can't go below 1478 so I guess this means I have to work out every day or the weight will never come off? So frustrating.. and I didn't actually weigh myself last weekend, well I did but it was at night after eating all my calories for the day, and I started lifting weights the week before and it said I was up 4 pounds but I can't really say that is accurate.

I am looking a LOT better now that I have starting lifting weights.. my boyfriend noticed how "skinny" I looked on the weekend and I could not stop smiling for the rest of the night. The only thing is I still want to get my actual size down another 5-10 pounds (130-135) and I am hoping that lifting weights is not going to stall this. It seems whenever I start lifting weights that I bulk up and look more toned, but not any smaller.

I have been eating terribly. Easter weekend, I of course went overboard but I was allowing myself one day to do that anyway since it is a holiday and I don't want to sacrifice eating good food for one day. Then, last week I started off well but ended up eating fries and a burger on Thursday, which I haven't done since I started at CC, and THEN all weekend I ate badly. Yesterday and today I have kept my eating in check, and I think I am going to get back on track. No, I DEFINITELY am going to get back on track.

Hope all is well for the rest of you !

Weight Loss I need help from all of you guys Pls. Mar 25 2008

The protein fat and carb combo sounds good, and is very close to what most articles and whatnot i have read say is good.

The water does sound like a lot, but you are very active so maybe you should ask your doctor about it? I know that getting too much water can be bad for you but am not sure if that is too much and am not sure how it would effect your weight loss. If you just started drinking this amount around the time you gained the 4 lbs, then it may just be the water weight showing. However if you ahve always drank that much water it may be something else.

My guess is that your body is just building up muscle (as you are doing weights quite heavily) and you will continue to see loss in a few weeks. (I see you lost about 2lbs this week if that is any indicator.)

Good luck !!

Weight Loss So how do the people on Mar 24 2008

I was also noticing that they now keep their shirts on, and yes I think it is because of the extra skin, they have a ton of it from losing weight that fast and though it is great that they have lost the weight and become a lot healthier, I am thinking either the producers don't want to discourage very overweight people at home to lose weight because of the extra skin, or possibly the men are self-conscious of the extra skin.

Would you guys (theoretical question if you dont have enough to lose to cause excess skin) get a skin reduction surgery if you lost a bunch of weight? Or just be proud that you lost the weight and forget about it? I know that the skin can retract but sometimes there is too much skin to go back to normal.

Hey guys ! Well last Friday I did end up weighing in at 140.. but it was most likely shortlived with the amount of food I ate on Sunday. I would say easily 3000 cals, I STILL feel sick from it ! I am just hoping that I didn't gain at all since I didn't exercise since Thursday either. Today I have been back on track, a bit low on my eating today (1212) so I can afford a little bit of a bigger snack tonight and I lifted weights and did the elliptical today so I am feeling a bit better.

How did everyone elses Easter go?

Ida - Definitely don't give up on the stabilizing the metabolism, it will come around eventually ! From what I've read on the forums, you may even want to think increasing your cals to 1500 a day, depending on your stats and whatnot eating more will help your metabolism get back on track quicker.

Ashster - I totally feel you on the TOM stuff, I always feel like a fat cow for that week. (And my stomach looks a whole lot fatter that week too !!) Congrats on the 2lb loss !

Cocorosie - Welcome ! Keep us updated on how it goes for you.

Ladytf - congrats on the 2 lbs lost ! And don't be so sure it is just water weight, I don't have much to lose and noticed that in the first few weeks I lost about 4 lbs or so, and its stayed off so it wasnt just water. I think the body loses weight quickly until your body gets used to being treated right :) That said it may be water weight but I definitely think positive thinking goes a long way!

Oh and ashster, about the stretch marks. I also have them, faded from elementary school when my hips and thighs grew wayyy too fast (I am one of those people with huge hips/legs and a really small waist) and I definitely wear a swim suit ! I was lying on my side on my boyfriends bed the other day and he was looking at my hip and he said oh you have a few stretch marks there .. we have been dating for almost 2 years and he has seen me in bathing suits, underwear, naked etc plenty of times and has never noticed before. So I think that we pick up on a lot of things most other people don't. :) Wear that two-piece with pride ! And when I get colour they aren't any more noticable, but if you feel self concious you could try putting a bit of self tanner on yourself before you go to the beach, and that way the marks will be the same colour as the rest of your skin as I'm not sure if they tan the same way?

Agreed, I really didn't like the clown performance they did, it didn't really showcase their dance moves and I think they were trying to be too experimental for their final dance that viewers vote on ! I thought Jabbawockeez were AMAZING in their hip-hop mix dance from the last episode, it was amazing and the audience was literally so hyped up they were going INSANE ! haha anyways, can't wait until the finale ! I'm in Canada so I don't get to watch it until Sunday.. :(

I enjoy Easter for spending time with my family mostly. I have felt since since about 2 pm yesterday from eating all the junk. Today, I am going to be good and go work out and hopefully feel a lot better.

And in the Bible Jesus rises from his grave, he doesn't just get murdered and thats it.. people also give thanks for him dying to "pay" for all of human's sins, I guess it's kind of like Christmas and another holiday to celebrate the fact that he existed. (Thats what you believe if you are Christian of course, I was raised Christian but am not sure what I believe, mostly in basic human decency and tolerance. )

:) I hope everyone had a good holiday!! (if you celebrated)

Welcome ida ! Good to have you here with us.. how has everyone been doing? Since I don't have a scale at school I always have to wait until the weekend to weigh myself, which can be frustrating because I would like to know how I am doing throughout the week as well ! Oh well. I started lifting weights 2 days ago, and have done it again this morning. Nothing major just about 10 machines hitting every major muscle group. I'm not trying to get super muscular since I already have quite a bit of muscle naturally, just trying to boost my metabolism !!

I feel like I look a lot smaller since I started, but maybe it's just wishful thinking? My love handles look smaller I think and I feel a lot firmer, so that makes me happy even if the scale doesn't change that much this week. Last time I checked I was at 141 last Friday, and I am hoping to be 140 this week. I have been eating really well so I think that is attainable. I am going home tonight for Easter weekend so I will let you guys know how the weighing goes !!

Weight Loss 25 Years Old, 5'6" and currently at 145; I want to be at 125 again. Anybody else with me?! Mar 20 2008

149

I am 20 years old, 5'6" ish and 141 (started at 145 a few weeks ago !! Meaning we have exactly the same stats and slight age difference, hehe) I want to get to about 130 ... I'm aiming for 133 by May 15 but may go lower once I get there. It depends as I think I may have a medium to larger frame than someone who is meant to be that small at my height. I remember being like 129 or so in grade 12 and wanting to be 125.. how ridiculous ! I am thinking my end goal is going to be 125 at the lowest. I think you made the right choice joining CC, I have been struggling to lose weight for the past few months and since joining CC I have lost 3-4 pounds in about a month. It really helps you to see exactly what you should put into your body.

Have you figured out your weight loss plan? I would highly suggest cardio 30-60 mins 3-5 times a week, and lifting weights (which is when I really started to notice that I was getting skinnier, the muscle really makes your body look good !) I've been aiming to eat about 1500 cals a day, but that may be different than what you should do depending on your activity level, age, etc.

Weight Loss 130/120 Club? Mar 19 2008

hey guys, I would love to join this group ! I am not exactly in the 130s, I am 141 as of last friday and am going to weigh myself again this friday, hoping that I will finally be under 140 !! :) Or even 140 I would settle for for this week.

My goal is to get to 133 by the end of May, which I am reallllly hoping will happen but if it doesn't happen that fast I am not going to get discouraged, I started at about 145 3 weeks ago and am down 4 pounds, so as long as I keep losing I am ok if it is a little at a time.

I have been trying to eat 1500 cals or less a day, a bit more (maybe 1600-1700 max)on days that I lift weights or just feel as if I need to eat a bit more, but mostly its around 1400-1500. I have been doing cardio 3-6 times a week, usually 4 or 5. I have been run/walking the treadmill mostly, but have started the elliptical lately because I am getting bored of the treadmill. I just started lifting weights yesterday, 30 mins maybe 2-3 times a week. I am trying to not start lifting weights seriously until I am down a bit more, as usually when I try to lose weight I start off lifting weights and the scale never budges and I don't get any smaller, just firmer. I already naturally am fairly muscular and just need to get rid of the fat.

Ok I think that is enough for my first post hehe.. I am glad I found this group!

I would also like to join you! :) I am 5'6" and weigh 142.. started at 145ish 3 weeks ago and am hoping to be down to about 133 by the middle of May.. we will see if that happens since I don't have much to lose but I am just trying to get to a point that I am happy with what I see in a bathing suit hehe.

I have been doing cardio 4 days a week, sometimes more, usually running on the treadmill for 30-50 mins. I eat very well, but tend to snack a LOT at night on junk.. especially while watching tv. However, I am trying to find healthy alternative snacks and have been doing .. ok with it so far hehe.

Weight Loss It never fails.................2:30 every day. Mar 12 2008
17:05 (UTC)

I don't know too much about the subject but I can tell you what works for me. I work out in the morning.

Even if you just do a bit of exercise and want to do more strenuous exercise later (some people really hate morning workouts) it might make a difference. Before I started working out I was tired all the time, but now I feel like I have enough energy to get through the day and don't get that tired until bedtime.

The other tips here are really helpful, and I also found that once I upped the amount of fruits and vegetables I was eating I felt a lot better throughout the day.

Good luck! :)

I agree that if you are 400 pounds you are likely to lose way more than 2 pounds a week for the first bit. I enjoy the show, but also am not sure how healthy it is. Last night I watched and some woman who was 167 pounds went down to 160 in a week, and to me it seems that it can't be healthy to lose 7 pounds in a week when you are already down to a weight that low.

I'm sure the contestants are monitored closely by doctors, etc., but it kind of seems like they are learning habits that will be impossible to keep up with once they return home, such as finding 6 hours a day to work out.

I have a question kind of related to this... is the amount that an elliptical machine tells you you are burning correct? I sometimes do the elliptical instead of the treadmill for the same amount of time, I feel like it is SO easy to go on the elliptical for 40 mins and i'm not sweating as much, yet it says i burn a ton of cals when on it, about as much as when i use a treadmill. Is this accurate?

When I was in high school I weighed about 130 which was a good weight for me. Two years later I weighed 145 exactly, kind of funny that it was literally 15. Anyways I have lost 3 pounds and plan to lose 9 more in the next 2 months and I would love to lose with you guys !

I have been having a little trouble with eating, but I've always been good with keeping up with exercise. My goal is to have a 500 cal deficit each day but most days I only get 200 or 300 since I've started on calorie count, which has been about a week.

Are you guys on any sort of fitness plan? Or just doing whatever to stay active and have fun? I have been running 3 days a week and plan on upping the amount of days and amount that I run as I progress.

I REALLY want to look good in a bathing suit this summer, theres always WAY too much wiggling in the thigh area as I carry ALL of my weight in my lower half, my stomach is actually 27 inches yet my hips are something over 40. I figure if I lose 9 pounds of fat the jiggle will be brought down to a minimum. hehe

Weight Loss How times have changed.... Feb 27 2008

I am 20 now, and I remember when I was very young, maybe 13 or 14ish and I started reading fitness magazines, going on websites, etc.. At the time I was a little bit overweight, maybe 10-20 pounds at the most but to me it felt like 100 when all the other girls were so naturally skinny.

But, when I went on weight loss forums such as this one I found that the people (who were mostly adults) gave very good advice and tips which actually helped me to find out what I should be doing to be healthy and lose a bit of weight in a healthy weight as opposed to some unhealthy alternatives that many people choose when they are not well informed. I think sites such as this one are much more realistic in weight loss suggestions than looking through any fashion magazine or getting tips from friends your age, which at the age of 14 may be telling you ridiculous advice.

I do notice a difference in the amount of attention that girls place on their weight from such a young age even in just the short time it's been since i was that young. Many young girls are doing crazy things to try to be thin. I think the biggest help would be for people to try and educate them as best they can about being healthy. Really, if you eat healthily (and don't starve yourself) and exercise regularly you shouldn't have any major weight issues, unless some other factors such as illness are present.

Another problem is girls who are already skinny who think they need to be skinnier and tend to have very low self esteem, which is an issue but has been an issue among young girls ever since i can remember.. and unless something drastic changes in the media I don't think the end of that is anywhere near, sadly.
