Young Calorie Counters My grades *cries* I just need to vent! Nov 30 2009
16:52 (UTC)

It really shows here that if you aim for perfection, your expectations will never be met. It's not worth it to cry over a few bad grades. There are so much worse things in life than failing a test or even failing the whole class! And besides, you're a freshman; if you're worried about colleges seeing the grade, they really only care about sophomore and junior year.

And really. If you died tomorrow, you wouldn't be tossed into hell for getting one lousy F. I might not be one to talk (last year my GPA was an outstanding 0.4), but at least I'm happy failing as opposed to killing myself for an A. I'm not saying to completely give up, but just lighten up a bit, give yourself a break. I'm sure you deserve it.

And good job on your almost-A! :3

Name: Megan

I'm doing the 21000 deficit challenge.

BIO:  I've been on a baaad binging streak since breaking up a toxic relationship, and it's only gotten worse with the holidays. When I was participating in National Novel Writing Month, I had no time to keep up with both writing a story and working out, so I've packed on a few pounds. Now that Halloween, Thanksgiving, and nights of obsessively pounding ideas out of my head are behind me, I think I can get back on track. This is my first deficit challenge... actually, it's my first CHALLENGE, lol. ;)

Okay, here's what you do.

Go to the store, and buy Bob's Red Mill Unprocessed Wheat Bran. Take about half a cup of bran and mix that into a yogurt. If you aren't emptying your poor insides within the hour, try it again.

Also, coffee on an empty stomach will work.

There's a really great Wildwood probiotic soy yogurt (plain) that I use. It comes in a tub, so you can just spoon it out as you need it and mix in anything you want. In a 1-cup serving, there's about 170 calories, 5g fat, and 11g fiber, and it's completely unsweetened.

It tastes a little weird at first, but it helps if you add your own little fixings to it. Pumpkin works great with a little cinnamon and stevia. :)

And to Opheliac,

Have you ever tried roasted sweet potatoes? I love them so much that I chew very slowly to savor them as long as I can. Roasting is simple and brings out the natural sweetness in vegetables. Just cut the sweet potatoes (I prefer the red ones) into 1/4" wedges or slices and toss them with a little olive oil (I use 1 tsp per large sweet potato) and whatever spices you like, e.g., salt, pepper, cinnamon, allspice, mace, cloves, cardamom, etc. If you like spicy foods, you can also use a pinch of cayenne. Then spread the slices out in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees for approximately 20 minutes (or until soft on the inside). Make sure to turn them over at least once during baking.

Thank you, that sounds amazing! I'll have to try that. :D

Fitness morning workouts, how do YOU feel? Nov 20 2009

I tried this for a while... I could never keep it up, though. I get maybe four hours of sleep on a good night, and that's with me scrambling out of bed at the last second, throwing on pants and mascara and downing a Clifbar in the car. Cutting further on my sleep would be nearly impossible.

But I can't see any problem with morning workouts as long as it doesn't leave you sleep deprived.

It's going to be really small for me, just my mom and I. She absolutely hates tofurky and claims that it's too dry, and I don't want to make a whole tofurky dinner just for me.

So she's going to make herself a chicken dish and I'm making... pretty much everything else: lemon rosemary potatoes, definitely a pumpkin pie, and I'm also trying to find good recipes for sweet potatoes. I WILL NOT RESORT TO CANNED YAMS THIS YEAR. >:(

Agreed with beaniej, Stevia really works without all the chemical garbage of other sweeteners. It's also a lot cheaper; 100 packets of Trader Joe's stevia is around six dollars, and 50 packets of Stevia in the Raw is around three or four.

Try using about 1-2 tablespoons of cream, go for fatfree if you can. If you want to use the fancy flavors of cream, use one tablespoon of the pumpkin pie or tiramisu or whatever you like, then fatfree cream over that. Add as much stevia as you want, but keep in mind it's about a thousand times sweeter than other sweeteners.

And my own cooking! :) I love to bake, but if I eat even a taste of what I'm making it's all over for me, it's GONE! lol

I HATE MEEEEAAAAT!

I've been vegetarian/on-and-off vegan (currently vegan) for about two years now. Just looking at beef and pork is disgusting. Same with turkey. Most of my childhood I ate some sort of boiled-skinless-chicken dish for dinner, and my dad's side of the family serves KFC at almost every family gathering, so chicken is pretty nauseating too. I can stand fish, but I don't eat it because they're dying off so fast.

And don't get me started on the mayonaisse, green curry, sparkling water, Capri Sun, Cup-O-Noodles, egg yolks, blahblahblah...

(P.S. I love oatmeal/oat bran passionately.)

Foods How much pumpkin do you put in your oatmeal? Nov 04 2009
01:59 (UTC)

Pumpkin is amazing in oatmeal.

I put about 2 tbsp of pumpkin in 2/3 cup of oat bran in the morning, with 1/2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice (I'm lazy like that, lol), 1 tsp vanilla extract, a dribble of vanilla almond milk and 1-2 packets of stevia.

I'm 14, and found this site when my school said that it was blocking another calorie counting website I had been using for health class. I was so used to logging my foods that I just kept going with it.

Food has been my enemy for years, especially fast food. I'm now a vegetarian and trying to gain more muscle after a life of being out of shape.
