I think this is quite misleading to the people dumb enough to purchase it for added support during workouts ... seen a commercial on the spanish channel that offered a similar item but it was for giving you more cleavage and lifting boobs if they sag in tops. I have to wonder if this is the same kinda thing but just preying on people that are not that bright. |

I suppose everyone is different because I lost some weight from it but the main problem is I got roid rage- It isn't classified as a steroid but it made me get mad for anything; I would even wake up mad for no reason- mind you I am normally a very happy, chipper person so this was very noticeable for me. I also got it from a Dr.. but when they weigh you they don't account for muscle size and I had a decent amount of it when on the drug..I was classified as overweight but I only had a Body Fat % of like 20 at the time I was taking it; which isn't considered over weight at all even though I thought that I was because the scale told me a high number. I hate the scale and now refuse to get on one for the life of me. I only use what the mirror tells me and I get my Body Fat tested every other week or so to see how far I have progressed. Best of luck on it! |

| Health & Support | How do I effectively gain muscle weight? | Oct 11 2008 07:37 (UTC) |

From your pictures it looks like you have never worked out before and if this is the case than it will be relatively easy to be on a deficit and build muscle. (you would be considered a newbie) You do understand that you will go up or plateau on the scale? If you eat healthy with enough protein (to keep the muscle you will be gaining by weight training) You shouldn't have a problem putting on a little bit of muscle. To get an athletic figure will take some time and patience... It took me about 4-6 months working out constantly to were I would consider my body to be at an athletic figure but I'm also considered Mesomorph so I had a fairly good foundation to start with. Every person is different; depends how serious and disciplined you are with diet and weight training. *you could eat at maintenance with training numbers included; maybe even a little more, 1-200 calories, more since you said you are underweight. *use weight training..there is a section on CC for workouts too; to give you options. *and start with light weight (to get proper form) and once you have that down add more weight. BTW..BMI numbers are not the best indicator of fit levels..mine says I'm over weight and my body fat is at 14-14.5% right now. |

| Weight Loss | Anyone here 5'4, around 140 lbs?? | Oct 05 2008 00:02 (UTC) |

I'm 5'3 and 142ish somewhat interested in dropping maybe 10lbs but my body wont let me lose weight. I'm only really able to put muscle on which I guess in essence is great because muscle burns 5-7lbs and fat only 2-3lbs but the stupid scale has me fixated on the number. I've swapped out my diet so many times that if I don't stay away from the scale I will do it again. I promised myself that I will only step on it when I get my body fat tested so I can determine my lean body mass. I would love to come on here for support or to support others but I can't promise to do a weekly weigh-in...maybe biweekly. |

Hi girls. Well I didn't check in on Friday because the number has me so worried; every time I weigh my self i feel obligated to change my diet to accommodate the slight change in weight and it is sort of making me feel like a worrier. I just want to have a healthy image of myself and the scale isn't doing so..actually the total opposite of that. I know that the results of diet and exercise on me will be different than everyone eases but I just have a inner desire to be at 120's even though I know that it's not physically possible because I wouldn't have any body fat (only 30lbs of fat on my body). So this is what I plan on doing...supporting you guys and checking my body fat every other week and posting that up! I will keep my low carb/high fat/ and even higher protein levels and exercise with total body-leg only days stacked with HIIT and do cardio on off days. I hope this doesn't kick me off the group because of the weighing?? I really do enjoy this little group we have. And I do love reading all of the insights of your lives! On my way to college be back later. |

Hi girls, hope everyone is doing good and getting a deficit..if not, at least eating good and healthy. I went to the gym today and did cardio. It was my first time doing cardio in about 5 days. My husband was even giving me s*it about it because he thinks it is because I have a new friend and she isn't as dedicated as I am; even though that really isn't the case and why I haven't went in a while. You know, sometimes you just need a break and just relax. The thing is I still have been eating relatively healthy while not doing cardio. Will weigh-in tomorrow like I should but I don't think I have made any progress besides thighs slimming down a tad bit. |

Some women have dense breast made of mainly tissue and some women have breast made of tissue and fat..sounds like you're in the later one. Your body will lose weight first were you normally gain it last. If your fingers got bigger last or your cup size went up last than this is a perfect example. If we could lose it where we wanted to first, most of us would have big breast. Good for us with big chest that we love, that that isn't the case. As if we need super models with big breast and a beautiful shapes walking all around us making us mad by them not having a problem eating too much! |

Original Post by ashleygragg: Sorry ashley...it is nothing like taking a vitamin..it is very hard to find, if there even is, a 1 single multi-vitamin that has everything your body needs; that is why many people take a multitude of supplements. Most multi-vitamins only give you about 1/2 of the dose in them unless they are slow releasing and even then you are still not getting the benefits of all the doses. That is why multi-vitamins are considered supplements not a source of food. Food is always where you should get your vitamins and then using a multi-vitamin for anything you didn't get in your food! * also saying taking too many supplements isn't good for you is like saying eating healthy with greens and protein in every meal is bad...to me that just sounds like you don't know what you are talking about or maybe you have a problem having a healthy balanced diet-all the time! |

I believe in utilizing all compound movement. Only when you see a part of your body not developing the way you want it to; that's when you add in isolate movements for that part. Great site for information on weight training from women who are into fitness is called http://www.figureathlete.com/archives.do?y=20 08. I've seen others try to say that it's not all that great but I don't see any of them pictured in the girls on the photo section of the website or writing articles on board for proper diet/training/ and health information! I've learned to only take advice from people who look like they utilize the advice that they are giving. |

Tod: Every time I think I will pull myself away from the weight training I fail miserably and end up in the gym with my wraps and bottled water ready for another hard workout. So I decided to switch from 5x- 5 or 4x- 8 to 5x- 10. I feel less drained and more motivated to do cardio afterwards. Even though the last 3 days I haven't done any cardio Today I did total body day and no cardio..also had the most delightful blueberry muffin with a crumble topping on it. I actually need to steer clear of them at the local grocery store because they are becoming a sin..in Sin City. |

My husband loves them. We get a big box from Costco's and he usually has it prior to workouts and sometimes after too. Great source of potassium for those who weight train and are out of bananas or don't have the extra calories for one. It is also great if you potentially work in a place that always has someone sick...so much vitamin C that your chances of getting sick (while taking it on a regular basis) are slim to none. Like you said taste good too, so there is your bonus! |

I intended to get on the scale yesterday but completely forgot..I had some cottage cheese this morning prior to this weigh-in so I suppose it could be a tiny bit off but otherwise it is saying 147.8...not too good! I have been sticking to my diet about 90% of the time but never go over calories and always have some sort of deficit. I think I will be putting myself on a harder diet. I don't know? Kinda lost because the period is over and I've been eating really healthy lately. This week I haven't really seen any change in my butt, but my body looks really good for being so heavy. I was thinking about going off my routine of total body for a week and just doing the cardio on Mon-Wed-Fri, taking Tues-Thurs-Sunday as HIIT days for a week to see if the scale moves next week. This means that I will take Saturday as a rest day; which is today. I'm also going to stick with a harder diet of 1250 calories with a lot of protein shakes...actually the Velocity Diet. http://www.figureathlete.com/readArticle.do?i d=1690447 I will need to get some flax seed and maybe some more peanut butter than I'm all good for the diet. edit: I don't know what happened to the body of this post. |

Original Post by wbbuff: You poor thing..hate when by tummy is acting funny. The only reasons I can think that you're hungry after eating is 1) not eating enough protein..carbs run right through you and don't keep you full unlike protein (you may need to up your protein in meals by like 10 grams per meal more than you usually do). If you do that than definitely up your water too! 2) your metabolism may be speeding up which is a really good thing! That means that your body is burning more often now which makes losing weight more successful. I hope it can be a combination of both so you're burning more and staying full longer. |

Original Post by maha-kisa: I was under the impression that if your heart rate gets that high that it wasn't good unless you were doing HIIT. That seems really high to keep for 60 min. On a hard cardio session where the machine resistance and incline is maxed out I only get my heart rate up to 160-165 max...but for HIIT I can get it up that high but then that is a total different type of cardio and I do it for 30 seconds and slow way down for 1 minute. |

| Weight Loss | what happens when you increase your protein intake? | Sep 18 2008 10:19 (UTC) |
1 |
Several tests indicate that the high protein diet caused the kidneys to produce more concentrated urine. The recommended daily allowance (RDA) for an individual weighing 150 pounds is 70 grams of protein, which can be easily obtained in a diet including two glasses of milk, three to four ounces of chicken, and a bowl of cereal, rice or pasta. Unless you are increasing the protein for weight training purposes than that number should/would be sufficient for you. It is important for athletes and non-athletes alike to increase fluid intake when consuming a high protein diet, whether they feel thirsty or not. |

| Weight Loss | Raw Eggs? Muscle gain................. | Sep 18 2008 05:43 (UTC) |

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drryan28.htm Read this! Although biotin deficiency is very rare, the human requirement for dietary biotin has been demonstrated in two different situations: prolonged intravenous feeding without biotin supplementation and consumption of raw egg white for a prolonged period (many weeks to years). Avidin is a protein found in egg white, which binds biotin and prevents its absorption. Cooking egg white denatures avidin, rendering it susceptible to digestion, and unable to prevent the absorption of dietary biotin. |

Tod- that is my favorite website of all time. I go there everyday and find new information on diets- to workouts! I was going to do that routine before but I wasn't crazy about some of the moves. Currently I am doing all compound movements in my routine to speed up fat loss. very similar to that routine but stacking it with HIIT every workout about 30 min. Good luck with your B routine. Went to the gym today to do legs and chest. I think I tweaked my shoulder earlier in the week because it was hurting yesterday and again today...I'm going to turn into my grandma and put some Icy Hot on to hopefully help the numbing pain. I had a delightful blueberry muffin this morning instead of my normal pancakes and really did enjoy it; may try that again another time this week. Dina- are you taking about The Office on NBC? My husband loves the episode where Jim comes in dressed like Dwite. So funny; he even has a bobble head doll like him too! I though the new season starts on September 25th. |

emily...don't know how you can look at Lohan and think in any way shape or form that she has huge thighs..you may have body self issues if I can be frank.. If you gain muscle easily than you will have to just work that much harder to loose it because that just may be your body type.. http://quiz.ivillage.com/diet/tests/bodytype. htm take this test and follow the information given in the first paragraph! Spot reduction is a myth and doesn't work, muscle burns about 6 calories vs. fat carried on your body burning about 2-3 calories (daily)...embrace your muscles because it is actually the reason you are your current weight..if your muscle was fat you'd be fatter, less calories burnt daily, and wear bigger clothes...muscle pound for pound weighs the same as fat but is just denser- consider it 1 lb of muscle a pound of bricks vs. 1 lb of fat a pound of cotton. Both weigh the same but the lb of cotton would take up more space! Same thing as fat vs. muscles. If you are looking for weight loss and not muscle gain than do cardio (HIIT- which is the fastest way to lose fat in the cardio prospective) do some light weight training to not lose the benefits of muscle burning the fat. Something like 4sets of 15 with decent weight and stack that with cardio for no more than 60 min. On your off days do cardio for 60 min at a decent resistance. If you do only cardio than you will get skinny fat and it isn't sexy; that is why TV people were making fun of Tara Reid, Lohan, Mary Kate and Ashley Olson. |

nikidust- wasn't able to have the pancakes today because I don't have regular pancake mix...I will stop by the grocery store tomorrow and pick some up so I can have them on Saturday. I did back/shoulders/and arms today and 60 min of cardio...haven't stacked those in a while so it was definitely different. Tomorrow I go to college and my math teacher wont be in so I only have 1 class and go straight to the gym for legs and chest w/ 30 min of HIIT. My only problem is I have been snacking on muffins a Lot lately...had a cinnamon and cream cheese one today with tea...need to steer clear of muffins too because I just can't stop eating them. I'll have one and the rest of the day keep thinking about eating another one. |

| Weight Loss | What do YOU consider "Eating Clean"?? | Sep 16 2008 09:41 (UTC) |
10 |
My diet varies between total body days/ legs only days both stacked with HIIT and cardio only with high resistance; so when cutting...which I am currently doing I keep calories for total body days/leg days in the 1500 calorie range (5'3) with high protein- 170-180 grams, carbs 120 grams, with fats in the 30-35 gram range. For cardio only I put protein at 170 grams, carbs at 70-75 grams, and fats at 30 grams. When I have a really good workout and fell sore the next day I treat myself to ice cream...which is most of the time so I can get the ice cream the next day! Also on total body/ or leg days I treat myself to protein pancakes with fruit mixed in. * I fall off the wagon some times and have something I shouldn't because it messes up my macros but usually I'm pretty much on point. |

Well banksn440...I would also agree with them; If you raised your calories to your BMR and on workout days raised it another 300 or so you may see a difference. For one thing you never want to be under BMR when doing weight training...with the exception for cutting for comp... also if you seen an increase (BF) you could toss in some HIIT after weight training for 20-30 min to make up the difference of any fat gains from the change in diet...the body will adjust it's self to the new diet. I am assuming that you are a male because if you are female at 11.6% (unless entering competition) you should never keep your bodyfat that low...from what I'm aware of anything in the single digits will cause period loss. For a guy it is perfectly fine. **the more solid you are the more your body burns = more calories needed . |

I love P90X too...currently letting my friend use them to get her butt into shape...Love the leg & back day or Kenpo, not the yoga though! My form is crap! But currently love the vision of my self in the mirror squatting 225 and the image of me walking away and seeing the men in the gym intimidated and stacking on heaver weight to keep up. I've had it a couple of times in the last couple of weeks or so a guy say that 'seeing me knock out deads or the sight of me supersetting makes him want to make it a productive day at the gym'....What a shame; I always go in with the intent to make it productive...but then I take my workouts seriously and never sit and talk. nikidust..thanks I will make them tomorrow for breakfast (prior to total body)..so excited because I can't even explain how much I LOVE PANCAKES..today I seen a mix for them but it was sweet-potato pancakes :0 I think I will buy them and give them a try some day soon. So Proud of you Tod..I love when I don't think I will make it into the gym and then I go and feel great...nothing like those endorphins to make you feel good...even the carbs in your Indian food will make you feel that way. I cooked pork shoulder in the oven today and the whole house smells so good..Lots of fat though; might have to go to the gym to do cardio 30-45 min to burn that off. I will eat my pork while watching a Redbox movie...Baby Momma. Turning out to be a good night so far. |

Original Post by nikidust: I'm intrigued about the pumpkin pancakes?? How would you make them with egg whites/canned pumpkin...maybe with milk to thin out? Pancakes are my fave and I make the protein kind w/mashed bananas; but I bought some canned pumpkins and would love to make pancakes with it...If you could give me an idea with like 4 large egg whites and exact amount of the pumpkin I will give it a try on Tuesday. Yesterday I did leg day and strained my thigh (quad). I didn't realize it until later on in the night so now I'm walking around with a annoying pain in my leg..not terribly painful but definitely annoying. I'm supposed to do cardio today so now I'm stuck here concerned about pushing myself too hard...which I always end up doing...I would try to skip today but STUPID me, I went to a friends house last night and ate about 40 malt-balls...the chocolate was just what the period wanted so I indulged; regretting it today. ladyfirelyght...the stuffed mushrooms are so easy to make and on the food network website they give you a whole bunch of ways to make them..they are good you'd like them. Also not that expensive to make either...the imitation crab is usually the most expensive part, but you don't need much.

wbbuff...great job with the bike ride; I've lived in Las Vegas for about 7 years and now am used to the heat..people think you are crazy when you say you can do things in 100 degree temps. I even where jeans in 110 degree temps; mostly because I have this thing where I don't like showing off my legs- even if they look good. (same w/my stomach- and I have a 6 pack 'lose weight in waist first not because of crunches') Took my butt to the gym today and did leg day w/HIIT for 30 min. I met my friend at the gym and we went to her job afterwards to eat...Joe's Crab Shack- went over calorie allowance due to chicken strips & stuffed mushrooms..O' well the rest of the day will only be protein shakes to get protein high enough and stay with a 600 calorie deficit. jennelaw..that sounds like a great deal at Old Navy; I will have to make a trip to see what I can get this weekend. I could use some new tank tops for the gym...hope you feel fab in your new shorts...exp now that you are back in the ZONE! |
