Motivation Locker room suggestions? Nov 11 2009

Something similar to this happened to me in my locker room.  I had just got done showering and was dressed, I mean just pulling up my pants, and the male janitor started walking in with his push broom.  I walked up to the door (he was looking at the ground) where he was walking in and he saw me, was startled, and said "ooooo ummm aaa" my response was "there's still other people in here showering."  It was 7pm and the gym doesn't close until 10.  I didn't want to be a b-tch so I didn't report him.  But I wish I would've.  Now whenever I'm in there showering and I hear a janitor come in I wonder if its him.  And I'm a bit of a nudist - I skinny dip and hang out on nude beaches whenever I can - but this still greatly bothered me.

And as for what gottwins said -- I hear where you're coming from but entering into the womens locker room for any reason is unacceptable.  He should've used the family locker room or had a female staff member enter.

Health & Support Drunken binging frustration.. Jul 06 2009

I do the exact same thing.   I recently completely quit drinking, thats what I recommend to you.  Quiting drinking kind of isolates you socially but just offer to be DD for the time being if you're worried about that.

I find alcohol/binge go hand in hand.  I find that the day after I did this sort of thing I would go out and drink with friends to make me feel better about having binged the night before and I would end up just binging again.  Not to mention seeing bar food all night, ugh, that'll set you up for failure.

i hate to say it, but maybe its genetics?

Im 98lbs, 5' 1.5", and have no fat anywhere except my belly and boobs. I run + work out, and what im finding now, is boobs are shrinking at an incredible rate (lost 2-3 inches there since last year, but no where else), but stomach is still the same.

For me anyways, im sure i would have to have really NO breasts before my body will use up my belly fat.

My mother is in her 50's and still has a six pack.  I don't think I can blame this one on genetics Tongue out

I definitely have stress in my life.  I don't eat white bread, don't really care for it much, or very many processed foods, and there is only one fast food r'est where I live so I eat fastfood maybe twice a year.  Perhaps the amount of beer I was drinking was enough to make up for the lack of whites, processed, and fast food ;-)

Thanks for the suggestions guys!!

Weight Loss Fear of losing weight? Apr 26 2009

My mother grew up in the USA but her family was from else where, they survived the holocaust.  Even though she grew up here she obviously still feared nazis.  For example, she has told me many times that she wanted to give me a Jewish name, yet she named me Christina which means child of Christ.  She had me baptized Catholic, and I went to private Catholic school for a while.  That way if anything like the holocaust happened again, I would pass as non Jewish.

I keep seeing all these posts from people in the US and it REALLY makes me concerned :S

Here in the UK i can see a doctor usually in 24hrs or same day if its urgent(many times they have told me to come in same day), and i can see ANY doctor or nurse at my local practice, and can specify if i like. I never feel bad about going to see a doctor if im worried about something even if its something as small as a bad cold.

I see all these posts where people would rather risk their health by taking online advice than going to see a doctor, and i hear peole having to wait weeks or pay hundreds of dollars...Is the health system in the US really so bad that people are too afraid/poor to see a doctor?

To the OP your partner really desperatly needs to find a doctor she is hapy with and see them not only about pregnancy but about diabetes. If she hasnt had proper medical treatment her diabetes it may be causing much more health problems than she realises. Surely its possible to call her doctors surgery and ask to see a female doctor?

It's funny you say this because the people who are opposed to socialised healthcare here in America use the arguement that it'll take too long to see a doctor if there's universal healthcare.  It is this bad, it's quit ridiculous actually.  I had an abnormal pap back in September and I am having medical professionals trying to discourage me from having another pap done because if the second one comes back abnormal I'll have to do something about it and that costs $$$.  So it's like what, I wait until I have cancer then go on medicaid?  It's the most ridiculous **** I've ever heard of.

Last Fall I got a staph infection, it got out of control cuz I didn't want to pay for a doctor, and I ended up in the hospital.  4 days later I had a $30,000 hospital bill.  $14,000 of which was just for the room I stayed in!!

I have tried talking to my mother about this, but she just just ends the conversation with, "You're not trying hard enough." I used to get very good grades in highschool, but college is much more difficult. My parents don't really understand because my father went to law school and my mother became a nurse. neither had any problems graduating.

For the last three or so years I have taken at least 3 lab classes a semester, each lab lasting between 3-4 hours. Ugh!

I took a years worth of organic chem in one semester (ahhh) and now I am taking a years worth of biochem in one semester; think organic chem on steroids (double ahhh).  If you have ever seen a metabolic pathway chart you'll understand the depth of the situation ;-).  If you haven't, look one up and think about trying to memorize it.  In fact, I have a test on that in the morning.  I am so glad to almost be done!!!

To answer the OP's question, I don't think it's fair for a group of people to have special privileges based on their ethnicity/nationality.  I think that goes against treating everyone as equals.

Now I have something to say that doesn't have anything to do with the OP's questions.  I have noticed, not just on this thread but on many, that there are definitely a few cyber bullies on this forum.  I think it is unfortunate, and a bit sad, that women over the age of 13 partake in cyber bullying.  A few people on this website personally attack other posters who have opinions that do not reflect their own.  I think this is a sign of immaturity and probably deters other people from posting.

When I started CC I was at 267 and had horrible cellulite.  Now, I am at 236-239 and my cellulite (on my legs) is almost gone.  I didn't even notice it was mostly gone until the other day I was changing in front of a mirror and turned and was like, omg, where did my cellulite go?  It has been there for so long that I wasn't even focusing on it, I had just came to terms with it.  I think what did it for me was of course the eating less crap and losing weight, but I think the amount of walking I do/the amount of biking I was doing really helped.  Perhaps that helped with the improved circulation another poster mentioned?  I am totally going to try the rough sponge massage trick though.  While my leg cellulite is almost gone my butt cellulite is another story.  Cool

Wow, that really makes me feel hopeful. I hate having cellulite. I'm not even that heavy. I know girls way thinner than me that have cellulite. So if what you're saying is true, I just need to eat better and work out. Which is what I've been doing the past month or so anyway! So this just makes me motivated to keep up the good work.

Oh and congrats on your weight loss! I can tell you're feeling good about yourself, which is a wonderful thing.

You know, it is possible for your thin friends that have cellulite to be "skinny fat." Meaning they're skinny but have very little muscle tone.  I do weigh in the 230's, however, I am lean.  The last time I was at the doctors the nurse went to weigh me and put slider on the scale at 150 and started ticking up from 175.  I told her I weighed at least 230 and she said "oh don't be silly."  Well, she was surprised to see that I did in fact weigh that.  I guess it is all in how youre built and how you carry your weight.  My legs are very firm, which is prob why I dont have the cellulite problem.  I also ride a bike or walk at least 2 miles a day, along the walk I go up some hillage, and I carry a 20lb backpack (damn school books).  Try some squats out or try hiking uphill with a heavy pack ;-)  That'll cure that cellulite right up.

Its my flat, i pay all the bills on the place, so it would be him who needed to leave.. which makes it even harder..

My life is already untangled from his, as i am finacially indpendent, i just need him to leave and i know he'll have trouble finding somewhere to live as he is in masses of debt with housing companies..

The fact that you are financially independent from him makes it EASIER for you to leave, not harder.  Tell him to pack his **** and get out. Don't give him x amount of days, say I want you out now, so go.  Thats it, thats all, done deal.

After reading this post, it sounds to me like you are making excuses to not break up with him...."they wont change my locks, he never leaves, its harder because hes dependent on me" it's all bs (sorry to be a bit mean but sometimes people need an in your face approach to see how they're being).  I sure don't know of any place that rents apartments, or flats, that won't change the locks.  That's a standard occurance after one, or all, of the tenants move out. Of course he doesn't take you seriously, he's been taking advantage of you and you haven't done anything about it.  After reading all of your excuses I am also having a hard time taking you seriously.

Work out more.  I read a study (cant remember where) that tracked the weight loss efforts of two groups of people.  One group ate more, exercised more one group ate less, exercised less.  The group that ate more and exercised more lost signifigantly more weight and kept it off.

Okay so, I don't believe that your body has to rid itself of the alcohol before it will go back to burning calories.  Physiologically speaking, that just doesn't make sense.  My diet pitfall is alcohol, I blame college ;-).   However, I have managed to lose some weight (28 lbs very slowly) while drinking.  I believe that drinking has set the rate of my weight loss back; however, I also believe that if I would've been restricting myself  of alcohol (more so than I do now) then I would've given up on this a long time ago.  But this may be different for you, everyone is different on what they can reasonably give up for a long period of time.

My main issue with drinking and counting calories is that I have a hard time measuring how much I've consumed.  I'll start the night measuring out 1 ounce shots, but as the night goes on and everyone starts getting tipsy, I either just end up stop measuring or forget to.   My other issue with drinking is that I love to eat after I've been drinking, and have very weak self control when I'm drunk.

My solution to all this: I have one free day.  On Friday I drink and eat without worrying about the calories.  Yesterday I did keep track of my calories and I ended up consuming about 2800, but I had burned 2600 throughout the day, so I had a 200 calorie surplus.  When I am going to drink I make sure that I workout earlier in the day, I also make sure that I workout Saturday and drink a lot of water.  On the other days of the week, if I have the urge to drink or am in that type of social setting, I sip on a glass of wine.  I have been counting calories for almost a year, but I started doing this free day-workout-when- drinking pattern at the beginning of this month.  My weight at the beginning of the month was 245.8, and now it is 238.8, so this has been one of the month's where I have lost the most weight.  I do believe I have lost more weight this month than I have other months because I started doing the free days rather than just feeling guilty about it.  I have realized that feeling guilty all Saturday about Friday night was causing me to restrict calories during the day, then drink a lot at night (because I figured I had the calories), and then eat a lot after that.  Everyone is different, and it will probably just take you some time to feel out your dieting style.  Sorry for the long post, but I hope you find it helpful.

hey,

dont feel alone, i was out walking all day at university, probably did 1-2miles of walking trying to find my way around everything and of course my lecture halls,

silly me was so busy yesterday only ended up eating around 900 calories by bed time and felt the pains a lil, and today it was so warm here, i couldnt find water, and i needed something with energy so i went to the closest thing i could find and i drank a whole bottle of Orange Juice with a total of 200 gms of sugar today just in that one bottle. i feel abit silly but i was about to faint from heat and not much calories or water. and now i feel bad, the juice alone added up to 800 calories today!! what can i do? will it throw the lbs back on? will i be able to rid the sugar i mean, i did alot of walking today but not sure that was enough. it was a silly mistake, but i was so weak and faint and made that mistake. what should i do?

It's 800 calories so no you wont gain lbs back.  It takes 3500 excess calories to gain 1 lb, just like it takes burning 3500 calories to lose 1lb.  Anyways, there's this place here called the Hot Bite.  I use to go there for shakes in the summer (theyre only open in the summer) until one day I watched them make a shake.....they use 1/2 a box of ice cream (1/2 gal box) for one shake.  I think that's like over 2300 calories for just the ice cream part of the shake not to mention the candy....
