If your physician says you are alright , healthy, and you feel good then be happy and give a prayer of thanks to God. Enjoy your health and respect it by continuing to eat healthfully, having checkups now & then, and enjoying your sports! Be sure and keep a spot in your memory for &  of the fast metabolism for when you are in your 60's though-- like the majority of people it's memory will be cherished. :)

I have had mine (the under $100. one-k-mart) for more than a year. I leave it up in a dining room corner except if I know people with children are coming then I fold it up--they drive thier parents nuts trying to get on it:) ! I know why though --it is fun!

I use it for 30 - 40 minutes on rain/snow days when I can't get out and walk the dogs. I try to use it instead of just sitting on my kester when watching tv most days of the week. It is 'funner' than the other items that I have for under $100. that I don't use  regulary......rebounder/power rider/torso trac 2/etc. (all in closets and hurts something or other with regular use)

mrsk thanks for the info, they sound good, I had tried the regular kind before but thought they were a little higher in calories than they were worth, but at 10 calories per -- I will buy some! (hope I can stop at one or two) I am always glad to find something sweetened with Splenda as I cannot stand other a.s. items. I see from the website that Meijer's sells them and that is where I planned to go this week.

Welcome cherylc, this is a very helpful site in so many ways. Enjoy .

my5sky I think one can make thier own chocolate diet--just eat a serving portion (dark chocolate is supposed to be heart healthy) some days and count it in the meter within your limits.

fresh fruit is great if in season and ripe --but in the winter I use frozen and especially like dark sweet cherries just slightly thawed for 90 calories a cup. Also this time of year the ruby red grapefruit from Texas I believe is very sweet and delicious and I think under 50 calories per serving/1/2

I tried the cabbage soup diet when it was making it's rounds one time and had similar reactions. It took several weeks to get my digestive system back to normal. Really smart --huh? I do still make the soup recipe occasionally in a smaller batch *as part of a healthy menu* not using the crazy *diet* (which is close to starvation!)

I also in the past have used the Atkins induction plan which has a bad effect on my system .If I stay on a lvery low carb plan for long I start noticing hair loss and lethargy. His maintenence plan is fairly healthy and balanced if one includes all the vegetables and low carb fruits. I stayed on the Suzanne Somers plan for quite some time and lost weight and maintained some of the loss , but found the supplying my kitchen with all the food types it required and the extra kitchen duty to make special recipes too trying to keep up, expensive and at times wasteful as I was the only household member eating some of the items.

I could go on and on about the crazy diets I have tried , but by watching portions, trying to concentrate on healthy whole foods, and using this *wonderful* site to keep track is the one that is working for me. I also do not feel deprived , am fairly energetic (I include carbs), and am losing--not at the rate "promised" by the fad diets--but losing!
Weight Loss What's your weight loss goal? Feb 26 2006

well I hit the wrong button and don't see an'edit'
so here I go again
my current weight is 148
goal is a healthy BMI for myself which is 135
I do not have a certain time limit but am striving to do it in a healthful way and maintain it if I ever reach it. I have lost close to goal many times then gradually gained it back. I think to do this I have to not deprive myself of all good things but try to limit and portion properly.

I like 'Newman's Own' low fat balsamic vinagrette only 40 calories per pkg. from Mc Donald's (of course you want to check to make sure you get the one you order before driving off :) )

I am surprised sometimes at the calories in some of the large salads especially some of the dressings, one has to be careful! Of course there are many reasonable ones.

Even before coming to this site I had lurked thru many of the fast food pages and was shocked at the amount in the Taco Bell salad that I like so well ! I still buy it occasionally but make 2 meals out of it.

According to her book she came to the realization that she wasn't truly happy once she had reached a BMI where she was into the morbid obesity range. She had reached 300 lbs. SHe said she couldn't cross her legs when she sat & huffed and puffed when she would walk needing to use her asthma inhaler just to walk to the bathroom.

congrats on the weight loss. Do you think the 'eat meter' helped? I *really * like that feature. I can double check on my total calories by just jiggling the mouse over it even when DH is using the computer. I know it takes a little more effort and of course the right dose of meds to lose with hypo, but it can be done.

I have lost on low carb only diets but it comes back easily and my body needs the healthy carbs to function properly. I think using this site will help so much with counting calories eliminating the part that I hate so much --writing them down thumbing thru a big awkward book, then adding them up.
Weight Loss wow, what a site Feb 15 2006

This is what I am talking about . This site has great tools ,information, it is fast , free, and a great community. Thanks to all for the welcome. It is also encouraging to see that it is working so well for others.

If I can just shed (and keep off--always the hardest for me) those 14 lbs. and not do it with some silly diet where they will return. I see a lot of balance on this bd.and the attitude to lose healthfully.

I am a fan of the View and Star Jones and I wondered the same thing when it seemed she was almost suddenly thin. I do not get to watch the show every day though so maybe it just came off fast. To my recall though she didn't have any long stretch of absences. It seems had she had the stomach reducing surgery that would have required more recovery time.

I checked her new bk. out of the llibrary and am reading the "diet" part now. My conclusion is that she is smart to not say her exact method of losing for the reasons she states-- that everyone is individual and should consult their own physicians, especially if they arre morbidly obese, as she admits she had become. She does state that she did that after coming to terms with the fact that she must lose to have the good life she wanted.

Three things she stresses is portion control, nutritional balance, and exercise. I think those ar the keys to losing and maintaining (sometimes the hardest part is maintaining). I am enjoying reading her book.

A good way to do away with some of the 'quirks' of the scale, if you weigh every am, is to write it down every time then divide by the # of days for an average. You can see how it fluctuates but that you are losinc weight.
