Sorry about the "spamming", I didn't know. Sometimes I've just posted in another forum to get more opinions. But thanks everyone for the replies. I've just been really frustrated the past few days but I might try out some thrift stores in the meantime... |

| Weight Loss | Calorie Count or Weight Watchers? | Jan 10 2009 02:01 (UTC) |

I've done both. I'm still in the process of losing weight, but I prefer Weight Watchers because it helps me keep my fat intake in check. I found when I just counted calories, my fat intake would get too high...so I needed the points system to help me with that. At the same time, sometimes my daily points aren't enough food for an active day and I eat a little extra when I need to. Either way, losing weight is about calories in and calories out, and both programs focus on that...it was just a matter of trial and error for me. ps- I don't go to meetings or pay any money to follow the program. I just researched everything on the internet (how many points I need, general info, etc) and I use fatsecret.com for my food diary because it calculates and monitors WW points as well as calories. |

I've been working out with the Biggest Loser DVDs for almost a month now and I haven't gotten tired of it yet! Some days I want to give my body a rest (these DVDs will absolutely kick your butt!! I've been doing them for a while but I am still drenched in sweat by the time it's over)...I just go for a walk for about an hour. But the workouts are fun, motivating, simple yet HARD, and are totally customizable. I highly recommend it!! |

| Weight Loss | How do I increase my metabolism? | Jun 25 2008 01:54 (UTC) |

This is just me, but what has been working for me is eating my BMR number (the amount of calories my body burns completely at rest...you can do a search for calculators of this online. Mine is 1600) everyday and doing about 40 minutes of cardio 4-5 times per week. At first this website told me to eat around 1300 calories to reach my goal weight, and I tried that and was starving, so now I'm at a number that is good for me. I also read up on these forums a lot on how important it is to eat your BMR.
If I were you, I would calculate your BMR, and eat that amount. HOWEVER, I would do this for two weeks (along with exercise) and stay AWAY from the scale. Since your body is used to eating so little, the number on the scale might go up a little, but that is just your body adjusting and getting used to a normal amount of food. Seriously, you owe it to yourself and your body to eat enough! It took me a while to get that into my head, but it's worth it! Just think about where you'll be once you actually lose all the weight...do you want to be healthy, fit, toned, and well nourished? If so, you need to make sure you're eating well! |

Nigiri is just plain rice with fish on top of it. I've only gotten smoked salmon nigiri before and it was good, but I like rolls better. :) |

This may sound redundant or like nonsense to you, but if you want to increase your metabolism, you need to eat more food. I'm not sure if you have any health issues that would contribute to your slow metabolism, but everyone here will tell you that eating too little will not only slow your metabolism WAY down, it will mess it up to some degree too. You haven't lost any weight because your body thinks it's starving and is holding on to any weight it can. Sometimes people restricting their intake too much can even see numbers on the scale go UP. Eating only 1000 calories AND exercising like you are is taking a big toll on your body, organs, and metabolism, and I would do some research on how many calories you need for your age, height, weight, and lifestyle. Just start there, and you might see the numbers go up a little at first once your body gets used to a normal intake, but after that you WILL start losing weight normally.

Thanks, that does sound more reasonable. Darn... I knew it was too good to be true. :( |

The reason you're not losing much anymore is because you're not eating enough to compensate for your new workout regime, and your body is resisting weight loss because it thinks it's "starving." (sorry to be redundant if you've heard all this before!) If I were you, I would just bump my intake up to about 1500-1600 on the days you do work out. If you're skeptical/worried about this, just try it for ONE week and I'm sure you'll see great results! And if you really have a hard time eating more than 1200 (I wish I had that problem!), try eating more calorie-dense foods like nuts, avocados, peanut butter, etc! |
