Greetings to all- My weight has fluctuated a little but despite my rather poor eating habits in the past couple of weeks, I have only added a pound or two depending on the day. We have had a VERY rainy summer here in VT and the past two weeks has largely been sunny and dry so we have been scrambling like mad to get hay into the barn. Nothing like working in the office for 9hrs then turning around when you get home and throw 5-600 bales into the barn at night. At least that keeps my hands out of the pantry and frig!! Probably another 600 bales tonight. Just a short post... to let you know I am alive and trying to keep up with reading posts (even if just hit and miss right now). Have a peaceful day. |

Greetings- Lucy, Tru, Connie - Thanks for your words and prayers. We have done the counseling thing, not sure how much of an impact has carried thru. He made a change initially.. then it seems like all went back to the way it used to be. Connie, sounds like you and I have run the same gauntlet with our rather *thick* men who can't seem to get it. Sometimes I rather let these things get under my skin more than they should. So the cook-out was good... but were any of those single men worth talking too? Do tell us more. Welcome Deb. The full length mirror is definitely a REMINDER!!! Perhaps Refrigrators should have fronts that become mirrors everytime you open the door. Sounds like you have quite a job keeping up with your children. I have never been to Hawaii, but would love to some day. Momo - Sorry sorry to hear of your pain. There is nothing more exhausting than living with chronic pain. Sending thoughts and prayers your way. Well I am supposed to be getting driving directions while I am on the computer... but I had to run over here and say hey ... gotta run. After spending weeks with rain everyday at home, it is kinda nice to have a sunny day. Hope you are all having a great weekend. |

Back again too... Me, just being a slacker or putting all the pesky last minute details before all of you guys! We head off to the Cape for a week tomorrow.
Aly - sorry to hear of your aunt's passing. Sending you all my best. I am coming up on the 1yr anniversary of my dad's death and I sorta think that is part of my funk lately.
Just finished moving hay and grain to all the various barns so that my brother & mother (bless their hearts) can take care of my horses while I am off vacationing for a week. Between the extra work to get set to go and the extra work catching up when you get home, you sometimes have to wonder if it is all worth it. There has been a little tension at home as well. My husband finds it much easier to talk with one of his "friends" at work rather than me. However this friend is my age, female and one whom I feel he stepped over the line with. A couple of years ago I was looking at the telephone bill for the number for folks who had inquired about horses and found this local # cropping up again and again. My curiosity had me check it out and low and behold it was his little *friend*. At night, on our anniversary, on the kids birthdays. I pretty much blew a gasket and threw an absolute tantrum with him and also *spoke* with the friend via email. Anyway... not sure why I am telling you all this, but I have been kinda cranky with him over this lately too. We both work at the same company and I walked down to his office recently and he quickly closed an instant messenger chat window. I knew instantly what that was about and said "don't stop talking with your little girlfriend on my account". His reply - everyone can get a chuckle with it -- "well I know you will be mad. Duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he is not over SITTING in her office when I try to find him, he seems to be instant messaging her. <snarl> What part of "this is an emotional affair if not a physical one" doesn't he get???? An affair is an affair any way you look at it. Small wonder I haven't eaten myself to 500 pounds already. I am DEFINITELY an emotional eater. OK enough of a vent for a little while. Tomorrow we get to pile our *happy family* into the car for 5-6hrs of quality time in a tin can. Wish me luck. Hi to all. skn

I am actually reading posts, even if I seem to be in more lurk-mode, than social butterfly lately!! I have been about as busy as a one-armed wallpaper hanger. I know I was just away in New Orleans... but we have to take one more week away as a family-thang (leaving Sat). In-laws 50th anniversary... so they rented a house on the cape and are beckoning all their children and families in. Here's hoping it is not a week of constant rain - not that I don't get along just fine with them; but to much togetherness and the bustle that goes with that can take an emotional toll. So what's new with me. Hang on; UPS guy just showed up. OK back again. My mom is having her farmhouse porch enlarged... so helping with the framing and roof last weekend and now wiring after work this week. Guess it helps keep me out of the frig... but I did crack open a couple of beverages to sip while working. Out of the rut (I mean routine) breakfast stuff. I like apples sliced and eaten with some cheddar cheese. I have also been known to slice off some of the roast chicken and heat it lightly. Sometimes with a sliver of cheese on it or try it with salsa. Hard or soft-boiled eggs. I still eat my old standby - oatmeal too. Then there is the slippery stuff - yogurt with berries blended in. A bowl of different cut-up fruits; dip in yogurt or eat plain. The Southbeach cookbook has a nice recipe for egg muffins that are good (I can dig it out and post it if you like). If you are not trying to cut back or stay away from carbs - then rice warmed with milk and cinammon is another different twist. Cottage cheese with fruit or spices (nutmeg/cinnamon/ginger, etc) and a little splenda. Hot *scrambled* tofu. Anything sound appealing??? Sue - if you didn't get a mental "go-ahead" nudge on the job, then it is probably best left alone at this point. I hope the woes that are causing division in your church family are addressed and put back on track soon too. Connie - good reading/food diversion note. I was actually the one that had some mental image of you blonde before you posted a picture. Don't even ask me why. The mind is a curious beast, ain't it? Hope all those with aches/pains are on the mend and those like me that have been out of sorts are not eating themselves silly!!! Hi to all new friends/family here! And good luck to all those trying to ready their nest of offspring to go back to school or out into the world. Keeping it short (well pretty short) and sweet for now. I apologize for not responding more one-on-one, but gotta run. See now, I am a poet today too. |

Greetings and hi to new and returning folks! I have been feeling kinda out of sorts this past week so my eating has not been too stellar, but I have been recording it, chastizing myself to do better the next day.. then not really improving. Oh well, today is a new day. Dishwasher died this past week, but we got on craiglist and were lucky to find a relatively new model that just happened to belong to someone that works at the same company as my husband and I... so all is well again. My oldest son, Geoff, had been gone (scout camp) for the last two weeks and he came home last night. Always good to have everyone accounted for. There is a little sunshine out this morning... but we continue to get hammered with thunderstorms and continually rain here in the NorthEast. My ark is coming along nicely though. Have a great day everyone. skn

Greetings - I am back from New Orleans. Had a good time and feel kinda sad to be home. Felt good helping others out and enjoying camaraderie -- wish I could have done more. I told my husband to have the washer filled most of the way with water so I could deposit my nasty smelling cloths directly into it when I came thru the door Sat p.m at 11:30. Not pretty.
Well, I jotted down what I ate in the 8days away and took time yesterday to try and plug those foods in to get an idea of calories consumed. Hmmm, well let's just say that I am trying to get back on the straight and narrow again! Going out to Cold Stone Creamery at night for an ice cream treat was delicious but was also a big calorie hit!! My daughter (12yr old) had a blast too... funny that we were both in New Orleans, but it seems I only saw her when going to bed or getting out of bed. She hung out with other teens and had a completely different work location for the week. She was quite amused by the transvestite, “Ashley”, we ran into on Bourbon Street. Impressive pair of black pumps, short black mini-skirt and scarlet “blouse” (not sure if you can call it a blouse when it ends immediately below your breasts??) with matching earrings. Pretty good abs on ole Ashley, but the musculature of the stomach definitely screams male!! Oh what fun.
Like Sue, I did a quick read thru to see what I missed. Chicago sounds like it was a blast. Welcome to the new folks. Truus, my grandfather came from Copenhagen. Lucy - we saw some pretty amazing storms pass thru last week too. The heavens truly just seem to open up and dump down!!! Chris, Jan, Jas – you will enjoy this group immensely and despite our good-humor jabs we are happy to motivate.
Connie, glad to hear you are doing better. When I first starting reading your crown post... I immediately thought crown tiara <snicker>, but alas it wasn't your jewels that broke. Hope that sucker lasts a good while longer at that price!! My daughter has one of those wonderful youth hand gestures that basically says “what-ever, Loser!!” Starts with 3 fingers pointing up to make a W, sweeps to the side for the E and of course ends with the L on the forehead for loser. Perhaps something you can perfect for your oh-so critical pal as well as a few other handy thoughts I have in mind but won’t express in writing. LOVE your pictures – you look fantastic; but I had you pictured as a blonde for some reason!!
Suz – Happy Birthday (OK so I am a little late)!!
Aly – loved your “at goal” picture. Just how good does that feel? Yeehaw! You new hangout sounds great too.
Lucy – My heart goes out to your friend who lost their daughter. I feel heartbroken just reading it. I have lost a couple of my siblings young (21 & 33yrs), but I don’t know if I would recover if I lost my children. I was typing this long rambling note, when your post came thru.
Betsy – welcome home!!
I am located in the Northeast (VT) and have traveled here and there (CA, Seattle, OK, OH, IA, AZ, and along the east coast, some of eastern Canada as well as parts of northwest Germany and Amsterdam. Did I tell you guys about my “duh-moment” in Amsterdam? I was NOT thinking and let the kids turn on the TV in the hotel and flick thru channels. At that point they were 11-8yrs. Yes, you now know where I am going. Uncensored adult TV – live oral action happening. There were audible gasps and shielding of eyes – then the incredulous “what was that” question.
I work in development for a medical software company and have three children (sons 15 & 14, dau. 12). Married – will be 16yrs on the 26th of this month. I will also be turning 50 this year – last day of the year and I am 5’8” (or some shrunken version thereof). SW 179, GW 148, CW 146. I also breed quarter horses – so about 18-20 of those 4-legged beasts. Nuff said for now.. gotta run. -sue

Soooo Connie, what have you eaten this morning without group reading material to detour you? Yup, I don't leave for N'Orleans til Saturday - crack of dawn. Seems like life is spiraling out of control -- just WAY too many things to do and too few hours to get it done. Besides the full time day job and feeding/breeding the four legged equine family, I have been working at my mom's place trying to clean out years of *stuff*. My dad died last August and he was a knowledge hound til the end and seemed to save just about everything it seems. I have done probably a half dozen pick truckloads of recycled paper (magazines, newspaper clippings, etc), then there is the juggling of *collections*. He was an entomologist (laymans language - bugologist) and has a very extensive collection which various educational & public / private individuals have been vying to obtain. He was also one of the pioneering members of the VT Archeology group and I swear there are a couple tons (weight) in artifacts that are going to the VT Archeology Society. And the lists go on and on. I think there are enough books (reference & reading) to outfit a small library!! So anyways the point of this ramble is that my mom is having the rather small entry porch on the house ripped off, a big bay window replaced and a spacious three season porch put in to replace it. This means that I had to do alot of cleaning/clearing so the contractor could work un-impeded. We had a very large dumpster brought in (they do a 10day rental for about $700) and I have been busy trying to get her money's worth out of this dumpster before I take off Saturday!! Like I don't have enough projects in my own life that need attention!!! OK, so that is my rant/ramble for the day and contribution to keep Connie out of the frig & cupboards!!! skn

Hi All- Well I am kinda fed up with work today... so I am taking a breather to drop a line saying "hey" to everyone. Connie - I know what you mean about over-indulging lately. Seems I am following that parallel tire rut right beside you. I have been rather outdoing it in the pig-out dept myself lately. Where I had been tracking about 1500-1600 calories/day, I seem to be more consistently around the 2000+ mark. Ugh. I too had hit the weight goal I had set for myself (145 in my case), so I think I am getting too lax now because I reached the goal almost a month earlier than I had anticipated. I have crept up 1-1.5 lbs and I sure don't want to lose traction and let bad eating habits take over. I feel like I have "craved" different things recently... but I have to believe it is more psychological or sub-liminal message take-over really!!! Hmmm better get a grip on myself soon. Next week I anticipate I will have NO CHANCE to get online and plug in my caloric intake while in New Orleans, so I will at least try and adhere to a little common sense but that may be tricky as there will be folks from Celebration Church supplying food for the group. No telling what!!! So what sorta cravings have you all had recently? And how do you NOT give in? I started my day out well with Oatmeal then progressively got worse. Before lunch I sauted some young zucchini with garlic and olive oil ... so that wasn't too bad. However I then managed to suck down a can of sardines (salt craving; and yes I am scandanavian so that behavior comes thru the genes) and another hour later a South Beach diet "snack bar" (sugar). I recently did a prowl thru the kitchen - wistfully eyed the partial bottle of chardonnay in the frig but it is way to early to even consider that. The boys had polished off the last few potato chips in the pantry (still in salt craving mode). Well maybe I will mosey back over to the frig and have a nice cool bowl of gazpacho with some extra salt added in to see if that doesn't calm the cravings. More thunderstorms rolling thru - almost daily occurence for the last 5+days. Cheer, skn

Greetings to all- Momo - I lived in a PA (as well as visiting in our recent family vkay) for a short stint too. It was in Jacobus just south of York. Loved the abbreviated winters there!! Sorry to hear that the scale gods are being cruel to you this week, but your average at least was more kind. You need to speak up at your pain mgmt clinic and let them know that your time is important too. A 4hr wait is NOT ACCEPTABLE!! <grrrr> Alylou - Gee you get a little time to enjoy yourself and then you have to worry over the kids. Hope they (and you) are all doing better now. Axe - I was able to give blood regularly when I was younger but after having children my blood pressure seems to run too low (go figure on that one!). I find that pretty much all the time, I need to get up slowly or that momentary blackness of low blood pressure almost puts me on my knees. Connie - I just howled when I read your note about the cashier and cat food. Well "here's your sign!!! as Jeff Foxworthy would say. Welcome Luc or Lucy (you are part of the gang when your name gets bastardized)!!! You will get lots of support and perhaps a little good humored ribbing from this group of losers. I think you will really enjoy CC -- and hopefully us equally as well. Well one more week of work then another week away from work when my 12yr old daughter and I go to New Orleans to help out. My daughter is in D.C. right now, but get home late Thursday evening in time to have at least one good night of sleep before we have to catch a 6am flight out on Sat morning. Yeehaw!!! Well I am off to bed shortly. Hope everyone has a great start to their week. I am actually not quite making it to work tomorrow -- doing some work on a habitat for humanity house -- work gives us up to 8hrs paid time to do some charity work each year, although I tend to do more than that...but diversity is nice, and there is a local habitat for humanity project going on so that seemed to be a very suitable endeavor!! |

Greetings- Welcome back Suz... sounds like you had a good time except for your neices' illness. Hmmm, early retirement...now that would be a nice concept -- I am jealous. It will at least move you away from the hurricanes though - glad you made it thru Bertha unscathed. Alylou - Seattle sounds like it had its' challenges but was a nice change anyway I suspect. Now knitting... that is something I could never master. Connie - glad to see your arm is a bit better and that your modem was quickly on the mend. I had to chuckle over the double meal plan though. You are a good sister/daughter!!! Jenny - The punksta band episode sounded like an interesting time. Glad to hear Rusty is getting his new shoes and his continuing education program won't be put on hold. Sue - bad, bad trainer. Glad you did not let her ruin your initiative. Hope you have a fabulous and relaxing vacation. I did a little indulging (trying to keep it in moderation) while on vacation too. It didn't help that we went to Hershey or tht I wine every night. Welcome Karen - I have been focused on caloric intact only... so I don't have any answer to your question about watching sugar & protein in addition but I have tried to go with less refined foods and more fruits/veggies. Welcome to you too, Momo - Congrats on your weight loss to date. That is great!! Axe/Karen - Way to go with the continued measurement drops. Feels great doesn't it? Hope I didn't miss anything else... I tried to read thru from where I left off - like in marathon mode!!! skn |

Hi gang- Hips... no real great improvement yet. But then again, hoofing it all over town when they are still aggravated didn't do a whole lot to make them happier!! The aches / pains reminded me of a snopes rumor that circulated regarding Julie Andrews singing at an AARP event. Although not true, it was funny enough that you should check it out. http://www.snopes.com/humor/iftrue/andrews.as p We are headed out on vkay this coming Sunday (taking kids to Gettysburg) for a week. Boys/husband will be running a sausage/food stand with the other scouts for the 4th of July so even though we have Thurs/Fri off from our paying jobs, it will still be hectic. I go get my daughter from girlscout camp on Saturday. Ate ALOT of food while I was down in Boston. Stayed with old family friends of one of my colleagues... Sari being owner of Casablanca restuarant in Cambridge, MA ... so good food, good wine, etc. The trip was to our Boston [work] office, so my development team also went out to PF Changs for a meal and sampled half the menu I swear!!! Dredging up something silly from the past. My older brother and I were about 15-16mos apart and until we hit 9 or 10, we shared a bedroom with bunkbeds. We would alternate each night INVENTING long convoluted stories about a "pet crocodile" while the other one would listen and eventually drift off to sleep. Hi to all... won't respond individually today; just know I am alive and kicking out here!! |

Greetings all- Jenny - glad to hear that Rusty is coming along!! ... but sorry that your ankle had a setback. Alylou - your "girls weekend" should be alot of fun. I do like Seattle!! Hey Axe!! Congrats on those falling off jeans! I don't care if the scale needle moves or not.. but continual *reduction* is a grand goal. Stay on high ground and keep those electrical tools out of puddles and bathtubs as we don't want to hear you had your hair standing straight on end!!! Gotta run grab a bite to eat... long workday today as I have a work association meeting after work. Yeehaw. |

Welcome Cave-L Sue - enjoy the time with your daughter during her *touchdown* at home. My daughter who will be turning 12 next month is in the same boat. She heads out tomorrow for 2weeks.. comes home overnight on JUly 5th, then [we all] leave for a week away, she has a week home, leaves for 4 days, comes home for 3 days, leaves for a week, then has a 2 week respite at home before leaving again for a week (all of us again) and getting home 3 days before school starts. Makes my head hurt just thinking of her schedule. .. ugh, did I mention you need to keep your heat, too!!! That is wicked. Alylou - are you guys drying out at all?
Connie - continued healing vibes. Did you try that orange martini yet? Hi to all our traveling or wayward members that have been flat out too busy in life. Have a nice weekend all. |

Connie - I really thought of you and your neighbors this morning when I started reading email. My HungryGirl daily email was entitled - Cocktailmania, HG Style! (3 New Martinis!). Well that sounded like an email that just needed reading. Thought I would share!! Orange Creamsicle Martini Ingredients:
Ingredients: Directions: Kickin' Key Lime Pie Martini
Directions: HG Non-Alcoholic Alternatives! For the Orange Creamsicle Martini, just swap the alcohol for an extra 1.5 oz. diet orange soda. For the Mounds Bar Martini, use cold water in place of vodka. The alcohol-free version of the Orange Creamsicle Martini or one Mounds Bar Martini will have 15 calories or less and a POINTS® value of 0*. For a virgin-style Kickin' Key Lime Pie Martini, trade the alcohol for 1.5 oz. diet lemon-lime soda and STIR your drink instead of shaking it -- that liquorless beverage will have just about 30 calories and a POINTS® value of 1*. skn

The end of another day!! Connie, glad you are still out there reading and living vicariously thru all our tales while you are recuperating. More prayers and good thoughts for your healing!! Alylou - no my brother and I weren't twins... he was 16mos older than I was, but he took off to Italy for a year (Jr yr of High School) thru AFS, so they made him stick around for another year of high school in order to have enough English equivalents for college. You never quite let go of the sorrow and turmoil that death brings, but my father was very strong/stable in reasoning and he found a gentle way to remind us that we need to continually remember and talk about those we lost when my brother died so that it didn't turn into a bitterness that ruined us. After all you HAVE to have built tons of good memories that are worth repeating and sharing!!! My mother on the other hand was equally stabalizing thru her strong faith, which she shared and lived out as an example to each of us. And, the truth be told, I have had PRACTICE! My brother died in '78 less than a month after he turned 21yrs and then a younger sister died in '01 at 33yrs due to blood clots. With the inevitable aging of parents, I lost my dad last August... but I still have a younger brother (6yrs younger), a younger sister (18yrs younger) and my mom to enjoy. Each of us is shaped by our encounters in life. That is why it is such a blast to be able to share and "dip into" thoughts and memories that make up each of you folks that follow this thread. We are truly blessed to have such a nice group of folks to call our own little CC family. I did a second bout with the PT folks today. My new *homework* is to develop better gluts and abs. Dang... just when I thought I had snuck out of this whole exercise / work regime!! I am willing to give it a try as I don't want to be slowed down or side-lined at this *young* age. Crafts... no, I am not really too crafty. I do sew up the horse blankets (patch upon patch sometimes) each winter, so can I claim that as a craft? Oh, oh, I have one. Ok, so maybe it isn't REALLY a craft, but I will share anyway. I took some online courses (vu.org) and learned how to use HTML code (created my own website) and Javascript! Can I get craft credit for that one? If not, count me in as one of the not-so-crafty people. One thing I LOVE to do is woodworking and carpentry though. My grandfather was an architect from Denmark so I think I come by it honestly. I made the entertainment center which houses our TV and stereo components in the living room. I can scan a pic if anyone wants a peek. I also had serious bouts of "nesting" when pregnant. The first pregnancy was pretty subdued all-in-all. I sewed up some curtains, decorated the babies room -- all the normal things. The second pregnancy got a little worse and I tackled turning the space over the garage into an inhabitable room. It has knee walls and also a sloping ceiling. At 8mos pregnant I was determined to wriggle around on the floor behind the knee wall nailing up aromatic cedar against the slope of the roof in a space which was designated for seasonal storage. It is quite a feat as many know seeing as you can't bend in the middle. The third (last) pregnancy only got worse and I decided I needed to finish the entire basement which included a second kitchen, a bathroom and shop area. My husband started joking with friends saying we weren't going to have ANYMORE kids as the projects were turning into a nightmare when the nesting kicked in. However, not to deter you Alylou... I think the jewelry/silversmith craft could be seriously creative and satisfying. There is nothing like being able to admire something you did with your own hands. It is one of the most satisfying things, I think!! At any rate, I must get myself to bed. Til tomorrow, skn |

My latest update.... went to PT yesterday (hips). I rather like their philosophy although I have only gone to this one session so far. Nettle tea - check out a couple of links that will do better justice than me!! http://www.proliberty.com/observer/20060517.h tm Alylou - the Montgomery Gentry song:"Back when I knew it all" is priceless when I think of my kids too!! I am sorry for this extra woe in life, but the fact that no one was hurt makes up for alot. And Jenny... your sons fender bender was another of those - what a drag. I really appreciate that no one was hurt. My brother was killed when we were juniors in college -- he fell asleep on the short drive home from school and hit a telephone pole (the pole was the only solid thing where the car went off - otherwise just a hay field) 3 miles from home. Needless to say - devastating to us all. We were so close that we never finished sentences. We each would start a sentence and the other would answer before the sentence was finished. <ugh - sad times> However worse things happen to folks and knowing his end [and that it was most likely instanteous] was the bright side of a tragedy. Let's get off that sad topic Sue - glad to hear that you haven't ditched the gym already. I used to swim at lunch time for a few years and loved the feeling after I was done... but the breaking away from work and getting there was my biggest hurdle. I can almost always "talk myself out of exercise"!!! I think I will fix a drink now and meander off to read my book - almost done the book *handed-down* in this months book club rotation (Murder in the Marais). I kinda feel obligated to read each book so I don't become a book club slacker... and it keeps me away from other night activities - like zoning infront of the TV. |

Happy Monday!!! Alylou - WOW, you have seen some action in the last few days!!! It is pretty nerve-wracking to have your children all over the county during nasty weather, but glad you were able to safely get them all back to the nest. Today is the PT appt for hip... so I will let you all know what they suggest. ... and yes, the week of July 4th is our trek to Gettysburg. Glad to hear the car is back on "all 4 tires" and that you got some down-time at the cabin. Sue - I keep wondering if a gym membership is something I can/would use. You will have to keep us posted on how it goes for the trial month. Connie - I was so sorry to read of the loss of your friend (at such a young age too). Hi Betsy ... and to the rest of the gang too!!! I kept busy over the weekend - moving hay, fixing fence and harvesting nettles for tea. Now back to work (where I can relax!!). |

Alylou - what a weight loss success story. You must feel terrific!!! And the camping wash-out trip sounds like one that everyone could have done without, but it was an EXPERIENCE, I am sure. I hope WI drys out real soon and the farmers don't lose their crops due to drowning or fungus from the wet. I was not familiar with pudgy pies, but they sound fantastic. Yummm Jenny - sounds like Rusty was not so fond of his vet visit. Glad it all ended well and the vet stuck it out. My youngster is putting more weight on his leg all the time. And after some "airs above ground" and calculated kicks at me on day 3 of penicillin shots, I decided to switch him over to oral antibiotics!! Connie - sorry to hear the arm is still unhappy. Does your dr think it is arm related or stemming from something higher up like a pinched vertebrae, etc? If higher up then perhaps a nice massage is in order. Either way I hope it gets better soon. If you get desparate feel free to use that Pina Colada straw as a "typing device" gripped firmly between your teeth. My PT appt got pushed off til Monday so there will be no update on that right away <sigh>. Sue - What is FITYMI (don't think I was paying attention)? Have a good day all. |

Morning all- Betsy - well you must be just SOOO excited with a go-date to meet your new daughter. How about a nice family photo to share with us when you return? Jenny - your vet does sound a bit persnickity. It doesn't hurt to shop around and talk to other vets in your area, even if you decide not to switch. I get a little irritated with some of the emergency vets that show up (our vet practice shares emergency hours with another practice - so every other weekend it is the regular practice) as some will treat you like you are a blithering idiot before they even say hello. Actually a partner that joined my regular vet practice was a bit of a ego-maniac too. He tried to stuff some high-cost approach for treatment down my throught on a regular visit. When I suggested a lower cost alternative that would yield the same results, he started berating me about having horses and not being willing to spend money on them. It was barely under control rage... but I did manage to tell him to pack up his truck and get off my property and that he was not welcome back in a neutral tone. I guess he tried to spin the "she's a b*tch" line with the senior partner who had known and worked with me for years and that didn't fly with him. I had kept abreast of current repro procedures and so I could often suggest using or looking into them before my vet had even gained the knowledge. He was actually very appreciative of the sharing of info (the vet practice is large animal so to be an expert across the board would take superman, so it doesn't help to have willing clients do some of the research for you). At any rate the new partner didn't last too much longer with the practice so I suspect he was a PITA with everyone, not just me. gotta run... more later, skn |

OK... so I took a quick peek *out there*. I found The Joy Fit Club link and browsed thru some of the stories. Many very similar to ours -- and also sorta encouraging to see others that struggled and hear their stories. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21627769/?pg=95#T DY_Joy_Fit_Club_MAIN_Apr08 Sharlie - good luck on your final paper. At least you are not procrastinating right up to the eleventh hour!! We are here cheering for you too!!! skn |

Sorry... just didn't find the time or energy to catch up over the weekend (my bad!!!). Jenny - my note is obviously too late, but I have only had one experience with a horse and quills. How is Rusty now??? My stallion did the same thing and got a nose full of quills. He of course had NOTHING to do with letting you touch them (poor noses are just sooo sensitive). Luckily I had some tranquelizer around (do NOT use ACE for boys -- you sometimes can get permanent penile retraction issues) but even that was an ordeal after starting to pull a few. You should snip the ends off the quills before starting to pull as that helps a tiny bit. I waited until this morning to have the vet out too for my three legged baby. We *talked* Friday night and from my description had mutually decided we could sneak thru til Monday so no emergency call. My colt is starting to put a little weight on his leg so we will go toward the end of the week before deciding if the vet has to come back and flush the joint. And I do hope that the mild depression you are experiencing is lifting now that forgotten dose day is behind you?
Aly - you must share some of your camping stories too. Connie - Your *night-out* sounds like it was terrific and the ex is probably still miffed to have been turned down. :-) Betsy - Congrats to your daughter for coming in 2nd - she must be thrilled. I am glad that your son's concert did not live up to his fears and that the audition did indeed go well!! I am in a conference call... so must go as they will be calling me soon. cheers, skn

Yo gang!! I have been gone a little over 24hrs and come back to find *you folks* (you can tell I am a Yankee else I would have said *all y'all* <G>) have been very busy. So a couple of new faces that I haven't welcomed yet. Welcome Sharlie & Brenda. You will like this little group of losers as we all band together for the good of the whole. Hi Soph!! Glad you are still here as you are all but my twin!! I actually dipped down to 149 (stark naked) one morning, but I am sorta running neck-n-neck with you all the time!! Axe - I am glad you cleared up your name! You know that if you don't then we make up our own stories!!! Haha. So Connie, I am sipping a light beer here in VT and really wishing I was sitting with you -- that ice cold pitcher of Pina Colada's between us!! Somehow my light beer is not striking me as appealing as your drink version is!!! Betsy - my daughter started a scrap book for me on Mothers Day. We worked on it a little the days after and since then it has been sitting at the end of the couch. Guess I need to get a little more fired up about scrap booking as it is definitely fun while doing it.
We had a first meeting for a group from our church that are going to spend a week in New Orleans lending a hand in July. I found a divine chocolate pie during a break that I just had to sample. Probably didn't need that, but it did taste good going down!! My weekend WAS going to be pretty quiet. My daughter (11yr) headed off across the lake to NY for the weekend and my husband is taking the two boys canoeing tomorrow so I was looking forward to some quiet, clean the house and do some catch-up chores time. However I came home from work to find one of my babies (1mo foal ~250#) was 3 legged lame. After muckling on and giving him some penicillin & a tetanus booster, I realized that my weekend has just gone from restful to stressful. Penicillin shots 2X / day for the next 5-7days will not be a walk in the park as they quickly realize that you not there for treats and 3legged or not he can give me a heck of a run for my money!! My husband started popping air conditioners in rooms as we are expecting 90+ degree weather and alot of mugginess this weekend. Unlike areas that normally have REGULAR hot weather, it seems like most New England folks do not have central air as we supposedly don't have much unbearable weather. So instead we fight with these air conditioners each year. Of course if I would just put up with the sweating and unhappy sleeping weather I could lose at least another 5# in water weight alone. Now there is a thought!!! Hi to the rest of the gang too. I really must go to bed and let you guys stop reading my ramble. Have a great weekend if I get too wrapped up to write over the weekend. P.S. Cho - how have you made out with the lost wallet? I am still thinking of you and hope you either had it returned or got everything canceled without a huge hassel. |

Yes, it is that time of year when kid activities are crammed back to back. Sue, Jen -- martial arts for the boys. I am thinking that is probably a good energy burner for them!!! Welcome Axe! I love to cook too - just wish I had more time to do so. And I am a bored eater, emotional eater -- you name it; I can eat just about anytime, anywhere!!! Sue - yes, you can blame it on the Thai food for sure. Guess we need to train ourselves to wait 2 days before checking in with our scales!! I bet it was worth the little weight blip to enjoy the food though and it will come back off when the water is no longer being retained. Jenny - way to go!!! Isn't it great to see the scale moving in the right direction after all your hard work. They definitely tout the slow and steady weight loss as a bigger winner in the end so you are right on track!!! Well I must run -- cultural food fair night for our middle son. Last night was end of year band concert, night before was my once-a-month outing with about a dozen colleagues from work who have a "no-stress book club". This week is flying by and it seems the days all have eating adventures involved. |

Welcome Betsybell. Sue is right that we have a tendancy to rename folks on the list. Hmmm now let's see -- are you truly a Betsy (that will work for me) and if not then you are going to become BB so you might as well say "heck yes, I am Betsy"!! Glad you are an animal lover too!! Yup, count me in as a loser too. I am just happy to be at a lower weight than I have been for the last 10yrs with still more to go. Sue, I had to chuckle about your mom and have certainly run into folks that I do love dearly but they can be a bit on the harsh sides (or just blissfully ignorant) sometimes. But heck, if we were all alike that would drive us insane too, so you are blessed with variety!! Alylou (& Connie??) - glad to hear the arm is coming back from the dark side!! Is that true for you too Connie? At any rate, I must go feed the critters... just wanted to start the "morning wave" [from east to west coast] of emails and a hail to get the heck out of bed and report in!!!! |

If you like peanut butter and aren't shooting for pb & j, you can take your serving of peanut butter and a little bit of water in a bowl, then warm it slightly in your microwave (or double boiler type arrangement if you are sworn off microwaves) and either use it straight up now that it is warm and spreadable or another way I like is to mix in shredded lettuce. The warm pb will coat the lettuce and the lettuce gives your sandwich a little "crunch factor" without the calories. And before you go "ick" Cheers, skn |

Greetings- Looks like you all have been having a FINE weekend!!! Cho, I am sorry to hear that there have been even more events to add stress to an already stressful time. I do hope the wallet turns up or is found by someone with good morals. I have created two different documents for my own safe-keeping sanity in. One is strictly a "card document". It contains all my credit card numbers along with the 800 #'s to call to report lost/stolen, etc. The second I simply call my "safe document". It contains just about anything else I might need incase of disaster - car title #'s, bank accounts, mortgage #/lender, pension plan #'s, etc (you get the gist). I keep a copy of both in our safe deposit box. If something happens to my wallet take the list and just go down thru the list dialing my little fingers off and canceling everything. Sophcesca - Glad to see you back here and good for you for not gaining while you have been playing hooky!! Now you guys with the wounded arm syndrome -- we would like to make it perfectly clear that we are here to support you as long as you do not make this become a mandatory *club* activity!!! My weekend - I was away camping and doing some outdoor activity type workshops. I had a good time, but Saturday was a day of very heavy rain so that was less fun. Sunday was better but the black flies and mosquitos came out in droves so once again it could have been better. I did trek down to the "campground grocery" and managed to find a decent bottle of chardonnay to take away the rain-blues on Saturday nigh. So much for sticking to my diet that day -- plus the whole campground does a potluck so you know I had to try a little of oh-so-many things. I tried to catalog it all last night when we returned and was pretty horrified with my calorie intake on Saturday. Oh well -- I can only look forward and try to get back on track. -skn

Happy Thursday!! Connie - Congrats, congrats, congrats. What a fabulous feeling, huh? Alylou - I loved your "positive experiences of dieting" list. Even though I am not to my goal.... I do find myself a whole lot happier and even slowing down to *admire* my image in mirrors or reflective surfaces I go by!! How vain is that???? Guess it is just my self-motivating vanity at work - keeping me honest and working at it. -skn

Connie- glad to see you back -- just don't push your arm too hard while it is trying to get better. Glad to hear momma cat moved in the rest of the family even if they are still a bit spooky with humans!! Thanks for your note - BTW the mares name is Strutter and she seems to be adjusting well now (although still on three different meds which she just abhors!!) It is a beautiful sunny day here, but only high 60's / low 70's. We (husband and 3 kids) are headed off for a weekend of camping this coming weekend. Not something we do very often, but we have it planned so I guess we are going. Always interesting to cram the 5 of us into a pop-up camper for a weekend. The local university sponsors a camping event the first week of June each year and they offer am/pm sessions to choose from, so it is sorta a structured get out and do something weekend and the campground is lovely and remote. I am taking Making Rustic furniture A & B workshops on Sat ... and on Sun a.m. doing a tree identification /walking tour. The kids & husband are doing a variety of different things some of which I remember -- fishing, pellet shooting, hiking, archery, edible & medicinal wild plants workshop, etc. On Saturday night there is a big "whole campground bbq/picnic" which everyone brings a dish too. I wanted to do some kayaking this year, but we were sorta late getting our registration in and that session filled quickly -- now maybe I am happy it did as they are suggesting showers Sat. Hope everyone is having a good day. skn(sue) |

Welcome back to the work week all... I didn't get a chance to catch up thru the long weekend, so I just did so now. Sad news first - my mares new adopted baby had to be put down Friday due to joint ill (infection which starts thru the umbilical and gets into their joints). After losing her "second" baby in 8 days, I decided it was time for her to come home and hopefully hang out with a buddy and get back on with her own life with less stress. As for me, I definitely had two bad eating days this weekend, but enjoyed them anyway. Friday was my brothers birthday and we took him out to dinner. Seafood stew - it was sooo delicious and of course birthday cake. Then Monday was a family BBQ as my niece turned 21yr --so it was sorta a milestone ocassion for her-- I did marginally better than Friday night, but birthday cake again can add on frivolous calories to the day. Jennytu - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! Hope you find a great treasure at LL Bean. Connie - still sending you some "get that arm better" vibes. Hi to everyone else!!! |

Hi guys- And... just look at all the little topics I missed!!! Well, I read and caught up but won't go back and delve into many older threads as you will throw me out of the club if I ramble on too much!! Alison - glad to hear your daughter is doing better now -- please don't leave us!! Jenny - sorry the town meeting was a bit of an exercise!! Sue - sounds like your daughters events went well and I am sure she was happy to have you there to support her. Suzen - it sounds like the preakness went well for you and now you are off to Ireland -- what fun!! Alylou - is that dirt pile flattened yet? Welcome Cho [cholder]!!! I also do the stress eating thing so I can sure empathize with that. I think the advise about using the website tools...is exactly right and it is what I have done to date. Weighing in... I think I do that almost daily to keep on track, but I only tend to record it weekly (at best) on CC. Connie - I sure hope that arm starts behaving better for you. Do the docs have any idea what is going on? Pinced or compressed nerve? Anyway you look at it, it is no fun to be ailing. Hope you are better soon. OK, now my updates. Mare who lost the foal is with her "new adopted foal", but had a few touch and go moments when she decided to founder right after foaling. That is an inflamation of the feet that can lead to bone rotation and it is NOT a good thing. We think she is back undercontrol but now her adopted baby is sloughing off its back hoof capsules due to swelling and circulation/infection problems so please keep baby Mandy in your prayers!! I made it thru two of my "self-appointed IMPORTANT dates for 2008"! My nephews wedding was last weekend and despite the forcast that it would rain all weekend, the front held off and didn't start til Monday. My church thrift shop dress worked just perfectly for the event. Then my annual physical was yesterday. My doctor was very happy with my weight loss and the dr office scale gods were with me as I was down 21 lbs from my last visit to the office in February. The nurse actually did a double-take and walked back out to the scale to check she got it right. Now just that get-together with the in-laws and husbands siblings in August to knock off my important weight-dates for 2008!!! Hope those of you celebrating the memorial day holiday are able to find satisfying food choices and have a pleasant time too!! It is my brothers birthday today, so we are "going out for dinner"!! Yummm |
