I was wondering the same thing!

I'm back in the groove...still weighed 138 this morning, but on Thursday I fully expect to be down a little. I worked out Friday (45 min of running & 45 min swimming) and Monday (40 min running - *2.5 miles in 20 min - a new record*), and will go today, tomorrow Thurs & Friday - all for at least an hour. I ate less calories today & yesterday, but not very healthy. Oh well. My DH is not being all that supportive. He wants me not to lose any more; says he likes it when my butt has "bounce"!!! Well, at least he's not saying I'm fat.

I am motivated to do good this week - going out of town this weekend to visit family, you know how that is.

I want to hear about everyone else!

I like the Cooper method, means I'm in very good shape! But I agree with  - fit enough for what? My experience was like on_my_way's.... I can run forever it seems, but I hurt my ankle last week (playing soccer) and decided to swim laps at the gym instead of running. WHOA! What a work out.... it was sooooo hard! Now I'm am going to change up my routine a little.

When I eat oatmeal, I make it with milk, butter, brown sugar and vanilla extract....really good, but not so healthy. Probably 300 calories per bowl. YUM!

Foods Odd Sensation After Eating Apples Mar 28 2008
18:35 (UTC)

I am so glad you posted this. Like the article says, I always thought I was allergic to a pesticide or something on the fruit. I have no food allergies, and neither does anyone in my family. I do get seasonal allergies, though. When I eat any fruit with the skin I get a swollen, itchy mouth, throat & lips  - apples, pears, peaches, ect. Appleas are the worst, so I usually don't eat them and I peel everything else - even grapes, and it helps a bit. I like to stick to more citrus-y fruits (they are fine to me) but now I am going to try taking Caritin or something beforehand (not bendryl, it knocks me out). Thanks for the help! And good luck to you,

Erica

Hi Tina

I think just give it time, maybe change up your exercise routine. I also hear its good to vary your calorie intake - like 1100 one day, 1500 the next, but the same number weekly. Good luck!

WOW!

Its Thursday, and I wiegh in at 138 - up a pound. I have not worked out since Saturday and have eaten constantly it seems. I have been sick with - get this - infected wisdom teeth. SEVERE pain and yet I can still devour Easter candy lilke nothing. At first I thought, this is great I bet I lose like a million pounds, but of course I get some shot, pain killers and antibiotics that it really hurt my stomach (Vicodin ES). The only thing that seemed to help was to eat! Not to mention, practically knock me out, so on top of feeling like crap, I definitely didn't have any energy to work out.

BUT I plan to be fully back in control TOMORROW! NO MATTER WHAT. It started Sunday, and the pain isn't so bad anymore. I will eat 1500 cals or less and run for an hour, plus some strength after. seriously.

SO, how is everyone else???  Is there someone out there that lost like 2 pounds this week and has a great motivational story? help!

Fitness A little advice? Mar 21 2008

Congrats! You look great =)

Cardio: Just start walking, outside or on your treadmill, as often as you can. Aim for everyday, or 6 times a week... Maybe once or twice a week, do it for time. Try to go farther, faster each "timed walk". And stretch.

Strength - I agree with PP - a DVD or 2...I like The Firm, it comes with weights.

Good luck.

My favorite is no fat yogurt with hemp seed granola mixed in. Sometimes with blueberries on top. So good... Laughing

mharsch - I know how you feel! But don't worry, sometimes it helps in the long run (i've heard). If you drink a lot of water, exercise and then sit in a sauna to sweat it all out, it helps lose that extra water weight. That happens to me about 1 a week (or 3 x/ month). In fact, I think I had a mini-binge last night too. I definately ate way more than usual, but not as much as sometimes when I binge. I had a big lunch (planned - went out to eat Mexican food) so I scheduled a light b-fast *did well there* and light dinner, no snack. So, I alotted 300 cal for dinner, and then ate: 2 LARGE bowls cheerios w/ skim milk, yogurt, and a bag of peanut M&Ms. Like 750 calories. So I felt discusted afterwards, but luckily stopped before I really got going (and there was a king size butterfinger in the house). DH asked what I was doing, so I got my head straight. I need to work out extra hard today. And I was too scared to weigh this morning!

Good luck Lfaine! Hey, what are some things you like to snack on? I am getting so bored with my food! Seems like I eat the same stuff over and over (at least for breakfast, lunch & snacks). And thanks for the tip on tagging the thread!

Foods What food are you ashamed to admit you used to eat all the time? Mar 21 2008

Fast Food! I used to be an addict big time. And in fact, I gave it (and Diet Cokes) up for Lent,  not my diet. For awhile, I was dieting so I'd just get a snack wrap or something really small (b/c my kids would want to eat there), but now I've given it up completely - for the whole family. Needless to say, it was a rough month but now no one really even asks for it any more - they only miss the shakes (think Wendy's and Whataburger!) and we make "healthy" ones at home now. One of the best decisions I made for my family.

Fitness Question about HIIT and Weight Training to Lose Weight Mar 19 2008
19:06 (UTC)

I'm not a professional, but I can tell you what I do. I've lost a lot of weight doing it (along with calorie counting).

I do about 15-30 min steady, medium-extertion cardio first, stretch a bit, then a good strength training routine about 3 times a week. I used to use a personal trainer, but I am going to start that program on the real fast weight loss site now. Sometimes (depending on my time & how I feel) after the strength training I will do HIIT for about 15- 20 min on the bike or running (treadmill or outside).

Another 2-3 times a week I do pure cardio at home (elipitcal or running outside) for about an hour to an hour and a half, and during that I incorporate some HIIT - I try to do about 12 mins of TI.  If I feel like it (most of the time), after that I do some pushups, situps, tricep dips, ect.

I guess thats kind of vague, but I really try to listen to my body.  I guess to answer your questions - I *try* to do HIIT after weights 3 times/week, and do it during my regular cardio sessions, but starting with a 15 min steady pace, then HIIT, more steady, HIIT, and finishing it with a 15 min steady pace.

Hope that helped

My number 1 would be all the comments... I am not an attention seeker and as soon as people start talking about my weight, I turn bright red, and just mumble something about eating healthy and working out. And a lot of my (well meaning?) friends and family like to bring up how I must not lose anymore weight, how I need to eat more/exercise less and that suddenly they are my personal food consultants... my sister even implied to my mom that I must be on drugs to lose weight (I'm not, no way).

The rest are nothing compared to that : being cold all the time and I am so flat chested now, I don't think I'll even be able to keep a bathing suit up =)

Pregnancy & Parenting Dramatic weight loss caused miscarriage :( Mar 15 2008

I am so sorry for your loss! I know how hard it is, but it will get easier.

I want to tell you that I don't believe your weight loss caused the m/c. My 4 kids are very close in age, and my weight went up and down - by the hundreds- and I still concieved and carried to full term healthy children. I've heard the statistics are 1 in 4 pregnancies m/c for no known reason. Please don't think you did something to cause it.

Pregnancy & Parenting What has your pregnancy weight gain/loss been like? (During and After pregnancy) Mar 15 2008

Hi...

I have 4 kids and always gained alot during pregnancies. Before I got preg#1 (I was 18) I weighed aprox 135 (I'm 5'9" so I was small, 15% body fat) When I delivered, I was...250#. AWFUL, I know. 10 months later, I was in the Bahamas in a 2 peice, back to 135. Got preggo there & weighed in at 230 on delivery day. 4 months later, I weighed 165 and found out I was preggo again, 230 this time, and then 6 months later back at 160, pregnant, but m/c, and then got prgnant with my little girl; 160 to 220 on d-day. No GD or anything, my kids were on the big side, 9#3, 8#8, 7#12, and 8#15, but all very healthy. I also nursed all of them until the next pregnancy.

I now weight 140 again, and my daughter just turned 1. I'm still working on losing a few more pounds, b/c I want to go from 16% BF to 14 % body fat, so mostly just eating healthy and a lot of exercising. I've never told anyone these numbers =)

I know I would of been a lot happier during my first pregnancy if someone told me something other than "you'll never have the same body again" You can and will, if you want. Feed your baby (maybe not like I did, but I was on the verge of being underweight, so I was probably starving Wink ) it'll came off soon!

Good luck girls, and congrats to all the little bundles of joy,,,

Pregnancy & Parenting Embarrassed about Weight Mar 15 2008

Hi,

I've never told my weight either. I've been married over 7 years, have 4 kids and never 1 time discussed or told my weight to my husband. I got REALLY big during each pregnancy and my doctor's nurse would weigh me privately then take me into the room (where DH would be, if he came that time). It was never an issue. Recently I've lost weight - alot (all of it, yay) and I had just stepped off the scale in the bathroom when my DH walked in. I was smiling at my loss and he said, what? You weigh _ now? He said the number EXACTLY - I was like did you see that? and he said, no I can just tell. Now I guess I've always known that, but it was actually horrifying to hear him say that. So as a PP said, its not really a secret, but I'll bet your DH will pick up on the fact that you don't want to discuss it, or just tell him not to talk about it.

Good luck

Not to worry you, but I'd be more concerned with the Stph infections going around than getting a tetnus shot. Definitely clean it and keep cleaning 2x day until its healed. Also, keep it bandaged.

Foods healthy sack lunch for kids--any ideas? Mar 15 2008
17:07 (UTC)

My kids love almond butter instead of PB. 2% string chees, sliced turkey & chicken, healthy chips...

Also, veggies with different dips, and big varitey of fruits - get different things each week, pomegranets are really good, cherries (might have to cut up and de-seed for your Pre-K'er) berries, ect

What about other nuts and seeds?

Fitness Mesomorphs - women who bulk up. Anyone in the same boat? Mar 12 2008

I'm in between an ecto & meso - but I get muscular very easily. And since I lost some weight recently, you can totally tell when I start bulging. I don't like it b/c I prefer to be "softer" so for about 2 weeks I stopped all strength training. I run or do intense cardio just about every day and that tends to get my legs just right. Now I am working back in my strength training only 2x week, just light, light weights, more reps, concentrating on upper body, core and MAYBE butt & legs if I feel  like its needed.
Fitness any tips for a beggining runner? Mar 12 2008
21:20 (UTC)
28

My best tip: warm up for a good ten minutes first, be slightly sweaty when you actually start your run. I like to put on my ipod workout music and dance (in private, not outside of courseEmbarassed)

Also, I cannot run without my music, the time goes by much faster. Running outside is harder than the treadmill because of wind & uneven steps (and maybe heat, I live in TX) - so keep that in mind.

I also like to change up my route alot. I guess I get bored easily, so I hardly ever run the exact same thing more than 2x.

As for dogs, I can't really help... you could run at a park that only allows dogs on leashes or maybe practice kicking, if one came after me I think I'd be able to kick it in the nose hard enough to make it run away???? I hope. I don't think you're supposed to run away though.

I use a polar HR and had a stress test done - I'm 26, weigh 140 (5'9") and I am in really good cardio shape (I run 5-6 mi, 5x/week).

Although you burn a higher percentage of fat in zone 1 & 2, the overall # of calories is lower. So, lets say you work out for 1 hour in zone 1 & 2  & you burn 300 cal - allmost all of it being fat. If you work out in zone 3, crossing into zone 4 for short periods, you may burn 600 or 700 calories, but 50% is pure fat fat - that equals the same amount of fat, if not a little more.

my HR #s are:

55, resting

-119 zone 1

120-167 zone 2

168 - 188 zone 3 (AT - 188, means I start to burn sugars instead of fat when HR reaches 188)

189 - 206 zone 4, 206 max HR
