fiber one bars have a lot of chicory root extract which is an appetitie stimulant. i'm always looking for something else as soon as i'm done with one. but they are delicious. |

i'm having the same thing. i eat healthy all day, work out every day but at night i tend to binge. i know that i'm eating enough calories and i'm not hungry. i think it's an emotional thing. i don't know how else to deal with it so i eat late at night when no one can see me. i know it's preventing me from losing the last five pounds and i'm just as frustrated as you are. good luck and let me know how it goes!! |

I'm having the same exact problem, so I feel your pain. I'm 5'2, 121 and haven't been able to drop the last 5-6 pounds I've been working so hard on. I eat really healthy but sometimes slip up with the occassional sweet at night. I don't know if that is what is holding me back or not. I've tried counting calories and Weight Watchers but I have trouble sticking to both. I'm at the gym every day because I'm a college athlete and love working out. Last summer I got down to 115 and felt amazing. I'm striving towards that goal but it seems unreachable at this point. I'm going to do exactly what gi-jane says, work on lifting and toning, working out and eating healthy and balanced. Even though I'm uncomfortable with my imperfections, I'll keep trying to lose while not obsessing. Good luck to you, let me know how everything goes!! |

I have the EXACT same issue. I'm 20, 5'1 and 123 pounds. I do spin classes multiple times a week, life pretty heavy at least 4 times a week, eat super healthy within a 1400-1600 range, rarely drink, don't drink soda, drink green tea and am as active as possible. I haven't lost a pound. |

Hey! I'm interested in joining as well. I'm 20, 5'2 and 122 pounds. I'm going into my third year of college and still having trouble losing the college weight. Last summer I got to 115 and was really happy there so I'm looking to lose about 7 or 8 pounds right now. I'm a competitive swimmer but haven't been swimming as much at home but I go to the gym 7 days a week, doing elliptical, spin classes, weight lifting on my own and toning/sculpt classes. I haven't been as religious with counting my calories as I used to be so I hope this group can help me be stricter. I'm a super healthy eater and really only get off track when I'm partying with friends, which isn't too often in the summers. I've been dieting and exercising so much since I've been home since the beginning of May and haven't seen much of a difference. Can't wait to get started with you guys!! |

I just started getting into spin and I really enjoy it. It definitely depends on your instructor and the music, those can make or break your workout. I was always intimidated by spin but once I started I found I really love challenging myself and it's a way better cardio workout then I can ever get on my own. I can't run since I have bad knees so this is a low impact workout. I definitely encourage you to try it and stick with it for at least a few classes. My legs are in great shape and I feel awesome after I finish the class. Good luck! |

I'm a Divison 1 swimmer in college and my team and I have unbelievable appetites. All I know is that swimming is really hard on your body and burns a ton of calories. Keep swimming, it's great for you! |

I'm a huge believer in Airborne. You get it at the drugstore and just put it in water and then drink. I take it everytime I feel like I'm getting a cold and I swear by it. |

i'm a college sophmore and i was in a similar situation last year. i initially gained weight when i got to school like a lot of people do, not because i started eating junk but because of a less active lifestyle. i got mono the first week of classes so i was lying around a lot. i've always been a healthy eater but took a lot of time to assess my habits once i gained the weight and when i went home, my family was respectful and adopted a lot of the habits i have now. my mom lost 14 pounds and looks amazing. when i go home for breaks i usually do let my restrictions on less healthy food go a little bit, because i want to enjoy the holidays and you can't get food like that at school. enjoy your break, don't go crazy and have fun! good luck! |

I'm a competitive college swimmer at a division 1 school and what I've heard is that most swimmers tend to retain a layer of body fat that their body develops because they're constantly jumping into cold water. I don't know how true that is, but seeing how many cold pools I swim in definitely makes me think it's pretty valid. Most of the swimmer's I've been watching in the olympics looks really ripped. But swimming drastically increases your appetite and burns thousands of calories for someone like an olympic athlete doing that kind of training, on top of the lifting they have to do. Maybe that has something to do with it. |

I take about 4 sculpt of body tone classes a week and I love them, I'm seeing really great results after about a month of consistently taking this many classes whereas I wasn't before. I'm usually a little bit sore after most classes so I know that they work. I encourage it! If you take this on and feel like it's too much then take it down a notch, but find what works for you. |

| Weight Loss | dining halls and counting calories: help! | Aug 03 2008 21:22 (UTC) |

I've been dealing with this also, I gained about 13 pounds last year but managed to take it off. I gained weight because I got mono the first week of classes - not really because I was eating poorly. But I usually have wheat wraps or wheat bread with turkey, lettuce and tomato for lunch or dinner. I'm really good about staying away from the desserts. I'm not a huge fan of our salad bar but I'll eat there occasionally. We also have Pumpkin Flax granola which is high in calories but good for you and good for when I want something sweet. I try to do most of my eating in my room, I keep fresh fruit and nuts and Kashi products and oatmeal and yogurt for breakfast. Plus tons of tea. My school doesn't post any nutritional information and most dining hall options are unhealthy so I do my best to limit my eating in the dining hall. I think the hardest part is that there's always so much food available, even though I finish what's on my plate and I can always go back for more. It's definitely a battle but I still try to count and estimate my daily intake to the best of my ability. Good luck with everything .. hope my random babble was helpful! |

Anything upbeat is great for working out, I listen to a lot of hip hop for that. But one of my favorite gym playlists songs is I Run For Life by Melissa Ethridge. |

I'll be a college sophmore in the fall. I DEFINITELY gained at least a good 13 pounds when I went to school and have had trouble managing my weight ever since. I think part of the problem is that the college lifestyle leads to me being a lot less active, at least in my off season, I'm a competitive swimmer. As soon as I come home - I drop the extra weight in a week. I've always been a super-healthy eater so I try to limit the amount of times I eat in my dining hall because I know there are very limited choices there and I'm always a sucker for social eating. I know that the low quality food at my school doesn't help either, it's loaded with salt and preservatives. When I do eat in my dining hall I ususally get wheat wraps or wheat bread for sandwiches, with turkey, lettuce and tomato, whatever vegetables or beans are available. And I'll have the granola if I want something sweet. I usually make Kashi oatmeal with raisins or flax in my room for breakfast. But if milk is available you can keep good, whole-grain cereals in your room. Get some blueberries or strawberries for your cereal too. I only keep water in my fridge and if I need some flavor I buy Crystal Light to-go packets and make iced tea, I think those are 0-4 calories per serving. I drink a lot of green tea as well, because you can just heat the water up in the microwave. Other than that, I always keep really healthy snacks like yogurt, fresh fruit, almonds and kashi or luna bars in my room so I'm not tempted to eat the plethora of junk food that's available. I've come to accept the fact that I'm going to carry around a couple of extra pounds at school, just because I'm simply not moving all that much and of course, drinking on the weekends definitely adds up. I'm at the gym every day and lift with strength coaches twice a week. My advice is to do what you can to make healthy choices and you'll definitely feel better about yourself! Good luck with everything :] |

I'm 5'2, 18 years old and 120. I eat anywhere between 1200 and 1600 a day. I'm active, I work out at least once a day burning 400-600 calories. I'm also a college swimmer and am out of season right now but will resume lifting with a strength coach twice a week next week. |
