I do the elliptical 15 to 30 (depending on how I feel that day) to get me started on some cardio... Then I do about 20 minutes of weights... And if I have a friend with my, like I did when I wrote the post above... We usually play racquet ball or basketball for 20 minutes.

I can't even look at oily or greasy food now... I'm looking at it like, "You have the potential to clog so many arteries..." Lol. I've started wiping grease off of pizza whenever I have the chance to have it.

Cheat days are a very bad idea.

To maintain a weight you have to make a lifestyle change. The concept of a cheat day just means you are not willing to make that sacrifice. This month you cheated ones, next week you cheat again, then before you know it you are in the same rut you started in. Somewhere in between you might reach your goal weight, but w/o the lifestyle change it will just come right back.

Every individual has their own ideas about what personal sacrifice is. I personally don't feel like having a cheat day is a bad thing. I've made plenty of lifestyle changes since I've started my path to becoming healthier and losing weight, without making gigantic sacrifices.

Portioning the foods I eat has been a major lifestyle change for me, and it has helped immensely. I also eat the foods I love, but have added healthier choices to them as well.

I, honestly, have a "cheat day" about once a week. I know I shouldn't "reward" myself with food, and that isn't what I'm doing. But, I do either go out with friends once a week, or I eat something that I absolutely love, even though it's sort of bad for me (like lasagna with lots of cheese and meat... yum!) to remind myself that there is a reason I'm trying to lose weight and get healthy. I enjoy many different types of food, and I'm also a social eater... which is why I limit going out with my friends to restaurants that are tempting with steaks and seafood... If I end up at such a place (I love steak and seafood too!), I try to portion myself.

Also, when I have my cheat day, I either A.) portion my "cheater" food a little better than I used to do, or B.) work a few more calories off at the gym.

Making a decision to get healthy, lose weight, and ultimately, live a healthier lifestyle shouldn't make you feel like your a slave to the gym or feel like you have to watch every little piece of food that goes into your mouth. Which is why, people like us, have a cheat day! =)

Good luck to you!

I think it's difficult for non-Christians to understand how deeply God affects every single part of the Christian life-- yes, it can deeply affect dieting as well. I can understand what you are asking, and I would say yes. I feel like a lot of times I binge eat and get fat out of GREED and FEAR. Greed because I am not respecting my body, and I eat until I make myself sick. Fear out of being hungry before my next meal. Or fear/stress when I'm trying not to deal with problems in my life. Using food as an escape is no answer, and I try to remember to turn to God first before I stuff everything in sight into my mouth.

Not to be rude, but I disagree with this statement. It honestly has nothing to do with being "non-Christian"... It doesn't matter what religion you are... I'm Wiccan and the Gods and Goddesses I feel are closest to my heart affect my life as a practicing Wiccan. Nature deeply affects my life. My religion is a part of my life to the fullest extent... and although there is a small part religion plays in my physical shape if I choose it to be so... Religion doesn't choose what I put in my mouth every day. I can't honestly sit there and say, "I'm eating this apple, or this banana, or this whatever because of fear, greed, or feeling like a glutton."

The only thing I can say religion does do for me as far as my weight loss goals are concerned is that it helps keep me motivated. And that's what religion should do for anyone, not matter what religion they are... It should keep them happy, keep them motivated, and help them feel closer to their own nirvana or "peaceful place."

Everything you do in life is because either consciously, or subconsciously, you made a choice to do so. You may feel spiritually compelled to do something, and that is fine, but ultimately, that choice came from somewhere, whether through God or whoever, but it starts with you. You choose to wake up every day and function about your daily duties. You choose to do things that are specific to religion to make you feel closer to your deity of choosing. And so, you choose to make the decision to eat the foods you do and continue on with your weight loss goals. May it be faith inspired, I believe, is totally your own personal decision.

Good luck to you in your weight loss journey!

Weight Loss 18-21 yr olds. . . do they exist here? May 18 2008

I might be a little too old... lol... Getting ready to turn 23 in October.

My motivation? I hit an all time high of 150 lbs. in December, and that was a lot for me compared to the 125 lbs. I weighed in September before I moved to Missouri. Also, my husband just deployed to Iraq, and I want to look good when he comes home... =) I don't want him to come home to an overweight, unhealthy wife! I also got motivated because a lot of diseases run in my family and I want to be healthy and lower my risk of getting diabetes (among other things like heart problems).

Weight loss so far... I've lost 14 lbs. since December and still have 11 lbs. to go to reach my ideal weight. I've been on this site for a couple months now and I love it! =) It's been really helpful!

Weight Loss Baggy Britches...dilemma? May 18 2008

I've been hitting wal*mart... and since I live on a military base, clothes are the PX are generally decent priced. I just discovered the good will off post too (it took me forever to find it)... and I only go a size or two lower than I am now... so even though they might be a little snug... I use that as my motivation to fit into them when I finally lose the weight I want to lose and get to where I want to be :)

If you look in my gallery, you'll see what I mean... I got extra "baggage" around my lower stomach and hips... I'm a muffin top.. LOL.

So... what exercises should I be doing then? I normally start out with about 30 to 45 minutes of racquet ball.. it gets me feeling pretty good and ready to go. Then I usually ride the stationary bike for about 15 minutes, and do about 30 minutes of lifting. I normally do this three times a week.

Weight Loss weight on antidepressants May 08 2008

I'm currently on 75 mg of Effexor and 25 mg of Seroquel to help me sleep at night. The Effexor says a side effect is weight loss, while the Seroquel warns of weight gain being a side effect... So I'm kind of stuck in the middle.

The first time I was on anti-depressants in high school (this is my second time on them), I didn't notice much weight change because I was doing PT on a regular basis and still doing sports... Now that I am starting to get on a regular workout schedule again, I am starting to lose a little weight.

I have heard of people gaining and losing weight, just like with the depo shot... It may have something to do with your family history/genetics as well.

Good luck to you! :)

Weight Loss Hydroxycut May 07 2008

I like to use Hydroxycut on days that I feel kind of blah and can't get the motivation physically to work out. It kind of gives me an extra boost and helps keep me going through work outs on those blah type of days. That's the pro. For me, the con is that if I take it, and end up not going to the gym or keeping me busy, I feel like I've taken a bunch of caffeine and get all jittery.
