Brigitte, what is that link to ? I went there and you had to log in and all, so I was wondering what it was b4 I register and all that. As for weight loss - Okay, I give up on the Schwarzbien Principle - I just lost about 2 pounds and then stopped. So, I will be cc again - which I really hate, but I guess for me it's necessary. Okay, I WILL be accountable: Starting weight: 151.2 (I'm 5'2") Current weight: 148 This week's loss: NONE (just starting cc...again!)
WISH ME LUCK!!!! Cheryl :) |

Misskady, Wow, 6 kids AND time for Tae Bo - hats off to you!!! That's great that you lost weight from Feb - I've been soooo bad and have hardly lost anything. Today is a new day and I'm going to do my best. Did anyone catch Oprah the other day - where they had awesome weight loss stories? One women was 700#s and lost something like 500#s!! That is unbelieveable. Most of them just did it on their own - just cutting back and moving more. I do think that as you get to the point where its 20#s or less to lose, it just is so difficult. Back to the steroid shot melting fat....is that true????? And if so, any reason why they haven't use that for weight loss?? Cheryl :) |

Brig, oh, you are so where I was at a few weeks ago!!! My 11yo was starting to get a very bad attitude toward me and I HAD IT!! I took away all of her most prized possesions - she was already grounded from a previous infraction (disappearing with her little brother - I found them 1/2 mile away on a dead end street on their scooters). Anyhow, the bickering between dd and ds and the eyerolling (at me) made me go off the edge. When I started homeschooling dd at 9, she was sooooo sweet....and then I got her involved in dancing, where the girls were all spoiled brats. So, at 10 she started to change. At 11 I put her in a Christain school and, surprise, the girls are just as bratty as the dance girls! I have witnessed her best friend treat her own mother like such dirt. I had a big talk with my dd about how her friend treats her mother, and she agreed that it was wrong. I did rant and rave a bit too, but in the end I think she saw my point and since then all has been well. This all happened on Mother's Day - when my dd just couldn't bring herself to wish me a happy day...I just lost it. Anyhow, we do the best we can. Cheryl |

| Thanks, Brigitte, for your prayers, and yes, you can say you *know* me (lol)! A few years ago my 2 best friends BOTH had breast cancer at the same time! One was 36 and the other 45. It's just so darn common! I'll probably know the results by the end of the week, but I think (given the very limited info they gave me) that I diagnosed myself (it's a bad habit of mine). We'll see if I'm right (I usually am...) - but I'm guessing I have DCIS (ductal carsonoma in situ - not sure of the spelling). This actually would be the best thing - since it's concidered stage 0 (more like precancer - however they do count it as a cancer). If this is it, it's a lumpectomy and radiation. I know everyone tells me not to look up things on the internet, but I just can't help it :) Okay, well, my weekend wasn't THAT bad - it was beautiful here and my family came over for a barbeque. As for my diet - all I can say is: "What diet?" Ha! Cheryl :) | |||

Hi everyone, I've been busy running around - getting mamos and sonos and lo and behold - they found something. Had a biopsy (core) on Thursday and now they tell me I have to wait a week for the results. UGH! The most horrible thing is that last night we went out for dinner and when we came home there was a message from the imaging center, but they hung up without leaving an actual message. This has me wondering - why did they call so soon - did they get the results in one day? If it was good news, wouldn't they have left a message? And today, thanks to the holiday, they're closed. My good friend who went thru this a few years back told me that if there is something, they'd find out pretty quickly... So, needless to say, I'm reeeeeeeaaaaallllly worried....Yesterday I fell off my no sugar wagon and ate candy and had an icecream cone. Gee, I guess I am an emotional eater afterall. :) Well, I hope y'all have a better weekend than me... Cheryl :) |

Okay, here's a question for the menopause ladies out there: Have you noticed your hips and butt getting a little smaller (but your midsection and back getting the fat)? I read that this happens. Here's the thing, I have an hour glass shape, so I tend to gain the weight on the butt and thighs (unfortunately I have those horrendous saddlebags that, if I was rich and brave enough, I'd have lippoed out...). Now, since I hit meno a few years ago, I gained 15 lbs. I gained weight in the middle as well as the bottom area. Now, I'm noticing that all my size 10 pants are baggy on me, but my weight loss really stalled, so I'm not losing anything. Could the fat be redistributing? Does that happen? Or is it that your NEW fat only gets put in your middle? Cheryl :)

jmd22, I recently found a great product that flavors water with Stevia - an all natural sweetener (do a search and read about it - it has no side affects and doesn't spike your blood sugar). Here's the link that sells stevia items: http://steviasmart.stores.yahoo.net/stevitast evia.html I use stevia sugar packets (from trader joe's) in my tea and I love it - I also make lemon aide with it. I like the packets b/c Stevia is really sweet and if you use too much it will taste bitter. Recently I ordered stevia gum since I am doing my best to avoid sucralose (splenda) and nutrasweet. They sent me a few samples of their flavored water packets (you add to a water bottle) and I really liked them - I ended up ordering the powder not in the packets as it is more economical. Cheryl |

Welcome back, Brigitte! How's your ankle doing? Anyhow, I want to share my new discovery - products made with stevia - you can get them at: http://steviasmart.stores.yahoo.net/stevitast evia.html Some items are a bit pricey, like the gum, but I think it beats chewing gum with the fake sweeteners that actually are proven to spike your sugar levels. I ordered them and found them to be just like regular gum. Along with my order they threw in samples of those little packets you throw into water bottles (like the crystal light packages) - and they are really great too! Just thought I'd pass this along.

I use two pumps (about 1/16 tsp per pump) twice a day (morning & night). It says to use 3 pumps a day, so sometimes I add a little more. As for weight loss, sadly, I don't think it helps. I do think it keeps you from being bloated though. I used to get so water logged right before my period and it was all hormonal. Now, I don't get that anymore and I read that the cream acts like a diuretic (sp?). I also noticed that when I am water logged, I am a monster - soooo irratible!! A few days ago I must have eaten something b/c my rings were so tight on me and I was crazy mean! Maybe that's why women are preceived to be b*&chy when they get their periods - b/c of the water. As for weekend eating - I work from home so I struggle with that every day! I snack all day long and it doesn't help. Maybe I should put a check list on my fridge to remind me that I already had a snack.... either that or put a pic of myself in a bathing suit (ugh). |

The progesterone cream made you sad??? That's unusual since progesterone normally makes one in a better mood - was it progesterone cream mixed with estrogen (they sometimes come together)? You also have to make sure its UPS (I think that means United States Pharmacudical) progesterone cream. Also, don't confuce the natural stuff with the stuff the doctor prescribes - now that has been known to make women irritable. My mother was on it (when I was a teen) and it was like living with a monster (she even admits it...now). Cheryl |

Hi Cindy, All I can do is recommend that you read the book by Dr. John Lee -What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause. When I started the hot flashes (REALLY BAD - all day all night) I ended up on womantowoman.com - and bought their package (I don't normally do that, but I was very desperate)- which was vitamins, progesterone cream & a diet book (the Schwarzbien Principle). After using the cream, my hot flashes were gone. Then I started reading about it, wondering why it worked and how come I didn't know about this cream. That lead me to the pioneer of the natural progesterone cream (Dr. Lee) and his book - which I then bought. It was a real eye opener. As for the diet- I trashed the calorie counting a few weeks ago after getting very discouraged and now I'm following the Swarzbien Principle (which is mainly no sugar and low carbs - you can eat anything that is found in nature - not processed). I haven't lost much, but I am full, I'm not spending my time fretting about calories and I can go out to restaruants (not restricted). Cheryl :) |

| deamarie, All I can say is YUP! It sure is slow going...which is VERY disheartening. Gone are the days where I could just cut out something and have a 5 pound weight loss in just a few weeks. It really does stink. I'm trying to look at everything from a different perspective - I'm eating healthier, I feel better, at least I'm not gaining...(I was gaining so much so fast it was scarey). So, even if I don't lose another pound, at least there are a few positives. Cheryl | |||

deamarie, you mean what to do about it - meaning the twins that all looked the same? I really don't know...it has me wondering too. Some were thin, some were over weight - but they were all the same as their siblings! I do recall that there was one guy that was in much better shape than his twin - he lifted weights. But they were the only two who were different. My guess is that in this small sampling, none of the other twins did anything different than the other - they ate similiar and probably had the same activity level - but I don't know. It would have been interesting for scientists to do a study on this since it is was a unique situation that they could have learned a lot from. Cheryl :) |

bjben, I highly advise that you read What You're Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause, by Dr. John Lee. He says that hormone imbalance is b/c we have too much estrogen and not enough progesterone - thus the hot sweats when you don't ovulate (you're not realeasing progesterone) - but you do get estrogen from your fat and the environment (estrogen is easily mimiced). He also found that when his patients used natural progesterone cream, their bone density increased. He admits that he never did a controlled study on this, but he he stands by his findings. As for all the bone stregth meds out there (like Boniva) - that is a temporary fix and it hurts you in the long run. The best thing is NPC, exercise and getting plenty of calcium. I'm in meno 2.5 years now and at my bone density test I was 10% denser (my bones that is, lol) than the average woman my age (41 - and they aren't usually in meno). Don't know if it's the cream, or just me... Cheryl :) |

deamarie, I sometimes wonder the same thing. I used to be an 8, and now I'm a 10 (sometimes 12). I know it's not that big of a size change, but I'm only 5'2" so I notice it big time. A few months ago, there was a news show that had identical twins that were separated at birth (they never new the other existed) and then they reunited them. There they were, something like six sets of twins and guess what...each one had the same body shape/weight. No one mentioned this on the show, but I sure noticed (instead they focused on how much they were the same in other ways). Anyhow, this made me think that no matter what we do, we are genetically disposed to a certain shape. Yes, we can fight it tooth and nail - or we can opt to just be as healthy as possible (what really matters). Cheryl |

| Hey Kay! Glad you found us - I was just thinking about you the other day! Anyhow, I doubt you studdenly became a shrivled old lady, Kay; the stress of your situation probably affected you. Stress does horrible things to a person... I don't think menopause makes one become suddenly old looking - I've been in it for over 2 years and I look great ;). Are you still receiving treatment (chemo)?
Slimhil, if you do buy the SP book, I would get the first one - it explains how she came to think the way she does. She is an endocrinologist that worked with diabetics. She found the more she pushed the low cal high carb diets, the worse her patients got. Then (I don't remember how) she did a reversal and let her patients eat steak and eggs, as long as they cut their carbs - maybe she was experimenting - and her patients were off their meds in just a few weeks. Then they started losing weight! I do believe there is such thing as 'almost' insulent resistant. I think I might be there too... As for me, still holding at the same weight, but I do have tons more energy. I am now doing in one day what would normally take me two. As for this whole meno thing - Yes it is so much harder to lose weight....I really wonder this: Once our hormones level off and we're, I don't know, in our mid-fifties, will it still be this hard? Cheryl ;) |

Cleaning out the pond sounds fun - I had the pleasure of dredging the leaves from my pool - above ground. I'm only 5'2 and the pool has 54" walls, so I have to stand on a ladder to do it. Fun fun - my neck and arms are KILLING ME! I hope tomorrow the scale rewards me. As for the SP diet - so far so good (about 10 days now) - the weight is not pouring off at all - still hanging around 147. It's a bit more freeing I think - just need to plan ahead. Carbs are allowed, just limited. I do have to admit that I'm not craving the sugar like I thought I'd be. I do make a lemonade with stevia and lemon juice - tastes like the real deal; even my hubby tasted it and suggested we bottle it and start selling, lol. Well, have a great weekend everyone! Cheryl :) |

Heyyyy, Edie, what IS this about the meno fairy??? And yes, Molly, 93 pounds is AMAZING!!!!! That's more than my 11 yo kid! As for me today, I have to admit, the hardboiled eggs are getting old - told y'all that I have trouble sticking to anything. I'm going to try and hold firm though. I started to panic yesterday when I realized that summer is coming and there will be no tasty frozen treats for me since the SP won't allow the sugar or artificial sweeteners. Then I had the idea to make my own ice cream with stevia and cream (I can have that). I'll have to give it a try and see how it goes. I think I can make frozen pops like that too... Cheryl :) |

Hi Brigitte, Thanks, I'll check out that book - I could use some recipe ideas. As for flying in the face of the conventional teachings - I was buying it hook line and stinker...and then came (dadadadaaa) the Internet! I know doctors hate the fact that now we can research and find things that they don't know about. But after the progesterone cream (and Dr. Lee's book) I started realizing that the docs don't know half of it. They are very influenced by the pharmaceutical medicines out there. Anyhow, there is a site http://www.anthonycolpo.com/index.html - the author is not a doctor, however, he has done his research (very knowledgeable). I think somewhere (if memory serves) that there were nuns in France who had high cholesterol and yet, no heart disease (one of the many arguments). There were more studies done and there isn't a valid link between the two. If anything, it's stress that causes the heart disease. Cheryl :) |

Molly, I'm trying for 15 carbs per meal and 7 per snack (2 snacks). If I feel tired - or not right, I'll up it - also, according to the doctor, if I exercise the I can double those amounts. The nice thing is that THAT is all I have to count. Today I weighed myself and was 146.6 - down again from yesterday and I am totally fine. I find that eating fat (which - believe me- I have avoided since I was a teenager) really fills me up so that I don't over eat. I hope my cholestrole and all that doesn't go thru the roof - but according to the doctor, that is all from being insulent resistant (our bodies crave fat b/c it needs it for cellular development - it only needs carbs for fuel). This is kind of an experiment for me...so we'll see how it goes. If I can stick to this for more than a month then that would be great - I have a very non-addicting personality and doing anything for any length of time for me is unusual (or maybe I'm just lazy regarding some things). Cheryl :) |

Hi everyone! digi - sounds like the beginning - my periods were so regular, then I started having a normal period followed by a very short period like a week later (maybe it was just spotting, only enough to fill a pad (hope no men are reading this...). Anyhow, that lasted a few years and I hear it's normal. As for the clumsy thing - I'm always clumsy, so I don't know. I do know that I got very forgetful and moody, but that was because of the lack of sleepn (I think). My hot flashes were all day and all night - HORRIBLE!! After the progesterone cream - it all leveled out and I feel great (better than before meno). Okay Edie, Hope I don't get kicked off the cal-counting boards for not counting, but I'm going to post what's been going on with me and my observations about the SP wayoflife. It's been about 4 days now and so far I'm really liking it. I thought I would gain weight (since I'm always full) but I took a deep breath and got on the scale this morning and I'm at 147.6 (the last time I weighed myselft I was 149 - after I fell of the cc wagon). I was very nervous b/c her book says that sometimes you gain first so your body can heal. Okay, this is what I'm eating:
This is WAY more than my 1300 calories that I was allowed. When I eat something, I am actually FULL and much happier. The last time I was on this I thought it was too restrictive...but now I'm putting more thought into it (I am pre-preparing foods like hardboiled eggs and meats). I realized that I can bake with stevia, so I can make stuff like banana bread or muffins, or cheesecake... We shall see.... Molly, love your flowers, can't wait until things start getting green around here - it's just starting. We just got a new patio, so I have to get busy putting gardens around it - lots of work... Cheryl :) |

Hi everyone! I've been having such a hard time with the calorie counting. I think it's a mental thing b/c the weight loss is so slow. Last weekend I went off it - eating normally, just not counting. After that I just couldn't get back into it! Then I weighed myself and gained 3 pounds back! Anyhow, I'm trying a new approach - I'm going to do the Schwarzbein Principle for a while and see how that goes. I did this before and had success. If anyone doesn't know, it's a low carb program. Someone like me can have 15 carbs per meal and about 7 per snack. All other food must be natural and not processed. What's nice about this program, is you can go out and have a real meal - just watch the carbs. Example; you can have steak (no condiments) and 1/2 a baked potato with real sour cream and real butter. It flies in the face of the low fat high carb diets...so it's hard to change my way of thinking. If you have tea or coffee, you can have real heavy cream - but no sugar (the doc says to use stevia - which I like, but NOT to use splenda or nutrasweet as they spike your blood sugar and make you crave sweets). Anyhow, I'm going to give it a go for a while and see what happens. Cheryl :) |

Hi everyone! How was your weekend? I did LOUSY! I stopped counting altogether (Fri, Sat & Sun). I got a bit sick (fever, aches and pains and just tired) and did not FEEL like doing anything, let alone counting. I didn't pig out - but I know I went over since (when I'm sick) I think that eating will make me feel better (more energy), so I eat. Okay, back at it today - although still not 100%. Oh, I also found that I AM an emotional eater - I was just in denial... Cheryl :) p.s. Anyone catch that show on TLC - I Can Make You Thin?
