I have the same thing with chocolate - I found that I was having to starve myself at meals so that I could fit in my chocolate. I found that the best way round it is to limit yourself - which it sounds like you're doing. I only allow myself to have chocolate at the weekends so I don't overdo it. I've actually found that since I've been doing it that way I've broken the addiction and I don't even crave it that much at weekends when I'm allowed it. I think keeping it black and white like that is better, because I know from personal experience that if I allowed myself a little bit each day, then I would end up going over my allowance because I wouldn't break the addiction. I hope this helps! |

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I also do yoga, so I think I'll try to alternate that with the weights to stretch some of the stiffness off - although yoga sometimes makes me stiff too! I guess that I'm not really overdoing it then - just need to get round it somehow - and get in the bath! |

| Weight Loss | 1300 + exercise = no loss? | Jun 12 2008 17:59 (UTC) |

Thanks guys, all this is very helpful. Bernst and moozoo, I think the cardio is a good idea, guess I'll have to get out running a bit more - the reason I normally avoid it is as soon as I add intense cardio, I retain water like mad and I hate the bloat! However I guess it's worth it in the long run! Thanks for the tip on the routine thing moozoo, I had a feeling this was the case, guess I need to keep it mixed up to prevent plateauing or perhaps try zigzagging? I've added you as a friend since we are so similar! How's yours going? Linden - thanks for the tip too, I do use the weight loss graph, and all I can see is sharp loss and then a flat line! although you are right, it says that when I gained and lost the 2 pounds there was no 'real' weight gain - I guess just eating more causes me to retain water - especially since when I eat more I make bad choices, like chinese take-away! I think you're right about how difficult it is for me to lose too - I feel overweight but I'm quite strong from labour and I guess my body can handle my activity with the current level of intake, especially since it's been doing so for a while! I just wish it could be faster!!! Thanks again!!

Hi, I live on the norfolk/suffolk border. Sweatshop in Ipswich is good, if you put that into google then you'll see where they are. Also, if you just put running shops east anglia into google then loads will come up. Hope that's helpful! xx |

Hi, this is great! I'm 5'8'', 21 yrs and 152.5. Really want to get back to around 130, damn that university lifestyle! How many cals do you guys eat to lose? I find that if I eat much more than 1300 then the losing stops, even though I go to the gym and do yoga 4-5 times per week!

| Weight Loss | Why am I always cold!? | May 08 2008 15:02 (UTC) |

Hi, I know how you feel, I have exactly the same thing. It's likely that you have poor circulation which can be improved by exercise and stretching - you can tell by pushing your thumb into your foot and seeing whether or not the blood refills instantly, or if it stays white for a moment. However, you may - like me - have reynauds disease. It's not really a disease, more a condition where your body can't regulate the blood flow to your extremities properly, but if you have it its worth getting checked out. You'll be able to tell if you have it because your skin will have a tendency to get a bit blotchy in the cold, and when you get really cold your fingers and toes will turn very white. Also, when I get into a hot bath when I've been cold, my hands and feet turn very red and I get a strange sensation. If you have reynauds it's important to look after yourself because it can get worse - plenty of gloves, hot water bottles, baths, jumpers, etc... There is a blood-thinner you can go on but I choose not to as I already have low blood pressure and I don't want to take pills every day. If you have any more questions about it feel free to message me! xx |

Thanks for the comments guys, all very helpful. At the moment I'm not riding because I've got exams. However, I ride about an hour a day at home, but then of course I can't get to the gym as much, so its swings and roundabouts really. I do do my weights after cardio, which is probably a mistake.... In terms of what I do, I'm a bit lost really. I just go on all the resistance machines and do 3 reps of 8 at the most I can manage. I'm thinking of buying some free weights to do in my room though, do you think this would help? I feel like I'm really going for it on the cardio and cutting back on food, but I'm seeing no results really, apart from increased stamina! Thanks! |

Hi, Good to see a post about riding! I have a 5 y.o. TB Eventer/Hunter. I agree that riding can be an effective burner, but it really depends what you're doing and what the horse is like, etc. I think that hacking out, unless you're trotting and cantering a lot, isn't probably very effective. However, once I've finished a cross country round, or schooled a young horse for an hour, I'm absolutely exhausted. I think it's partly true about beginners, I'm an instructor and the beginners always whine to me about their sore muscles, which I never get - plus they sweat a lot more and have to concentrate like mad to stay balanced! Having said that I think that really good riders will burn more than intermediates because they know which muscles to use and how to use them. CC should work out a way to calculate the burn, although I can see that it would be quite difficult to work out, given that horses are not like machines!!!

Hi, you and I have virtually the same stats and the same goal so if you're interested in having a buddy then please add me - I've been struggling to find someone with similar stats! I'm 21 5'8'' 154 pounds now 126 goal weight. I'm just finishing my senior year at the university of St. Andrews in Scotland! Hope to hear from you, Kate. |

| Fitness | More sweat = more fit? | Mar 16 2008 12:28 (UTC) |

In reality it is just down to the individual. However, the amount that you sweat is related directly to the amount that you drink - since generally fitter people (not necessarily lighter people) do more exercise so they tend generally to drink more water in anticipation, especially if they are athletes who are particularly aware of their liquid requirements - therefore sweat more - it's as simple as that! Hope this helps... Tiger x |

| I do know Bravissimo so thanks for the tip! The trouble is that it's quite expensive and there isn't one in St. Andrews where I'm at Uni. However, whenever I'm home I normally talk my mother into treating me - it's a necessity afterall!! I normally have to manage by just wearing a sports bra over my normal one if I want to wear something smaller or for yoga, etc, but I get the sort of monoboob effect which is not great..... | |||

Hey, chocolate used to be my downfall - I'd have to cut out 400 calories a day because I'd eaten it in chocolate! My Sister challenged me to give it up for lent, and I still am off it - I suggest that you just give it up COMPLETELY for one month - you'll find after 1 or 2 weeks that you don't even crave it - but as long as you keep eating a bit now and then, or a hot chocolate/ chocolate cereal, etc. it will have a hold on you - chocolate has a power on women that no other food has! If you can give it up for a month then you'll have broken the cycle and then you'll have the power to choose to eat just a little! Also when I did this before I lost about 5 pounds in the month and I wasn't even calorie counting! Hope this helps, any questions let me know! Good luck! Kate. |

Hi, I'm also new, joined yesterday and don't know anyone! I'm 21... 5' 8''... and 153 pounds. I was 135 when I came to university and I'd like to be back to that when I graduate in June, and around 126 when I'm 22 at the end of July, which is my ideal weight. I do yoga or go to the gym most days - just need to keep my calories down! trying to keep around 1350 each day. Anyone with similar stats/goals give me a shout, I'd love to get in touch.
