Original Post by crazyperson01: Yes, I ate anywhere from 1200 to 1500, but with my sports, I should have been eating 3500. I lost 30 lbs in one month, my hair started falling out, and all I wanted to to do was sleep. |

I'm about 125-130lbs. I work out for at least 1-2 hours 5 or 6 days a week (high school xc, track, and basketball) and eat about 2700 calories during the week and 3200 on the weekends. I'm sure I will not be the only one to say this, but do not eat below 1500 a day. That is the bare minimum for teens and trust me, I went through an ED eating that much a day. With the amount I eat now, I have no idea how I did it. Our growing bodies need nourishment so make sure you listen to its needs! :) |

I willa lso be travelling to France in less than a month for 11 days-5 in Paris, 3 in Nice, and 3 in Provence. I am so excited to sample some authentic French cuisine and just absorb all of the culture, whether it be food, fashion, history, people, etc. At first, I was freaking out about all of the food there, but now I've just decided that I am going to do what everyone esle does when they visit France for the first time; "eat my way through". If I gain a few pounds, I do. Oh well. No big deal. I might never have the chance to go back so I might as well enjor all of the boulangeries, patisseries, epiceries, cafes, and bistros (and especially the bread and desserts! yumm!) I am sure we will be walking a ton and I will also have the chance to visit some of the famous outdoor markets of France where I am positive I will find some delicious fresh produce! =) I cannot wait! |

I have never told my parents, but I think my mom knows because she also had an eating disorder in high school and could recognize the signs. She would just drop comments that would make me realize what I was doing was wrong. I went on anyway until I met a senior at my high school who did an interview with me about her experiences for an article and it came out that she left school for 3 months to be hospitalized for anorexia. That interview became the focus of my story, but I got so much more out of our discussion. She made me realized that was I was doing wasn't normal and gave me the advice and support I needed to change my life around. We became very good friends and without her, I don't know how much worse it could have gotten. Now, each day I work to have a healthier relationship with food. Some days are better than others. Some days I can eat whatever, some days I restrict, and some days I even binge, but I feel better knowing that I have recognized my ED and am willing to work toward a healthy, happy life. |

Thank you for your post! =) More girls need to listen to what you have to say. I battled anorexia and over-exercise disorder last year and struggled with the help of two of my friends and my mom to take steps to recover before it got any worse. At my lowest, I was 120 lbs and 5'10. When I dislocated my knee cap and tore my meniscus (probably partly due to muscle loss and weak bones), I was sidelined for nearly 8 months. This time period was the absolute hardest for me, but i did not restrict and i have gained back about 7-8 lbs over those months. I haven't had my period in over 1.5 years, but I am hoping to have it again soon because I know that if this goes on much longer, I will not be able to have children and I don't think I could handle that. If only girls could realize what they do now to damage their bodies, may have serious consequences on their futures. Again, thank you for the inspiration to keep pushing through the hard days. =) |

Turned 16 in February. Nearly 5'10 and about 129. I finally got over an ED last year and reached a stable weight (and finally have all my muscle back! =). Sometimes I am not comfortable with it and would like to lose about 5-7 more pounds, but I just have to convince myself that I look better right now and that my body is healthy. I eat about 1800 calories a day to maintain with about a half hour of physical activity a day, but once or twice a week if I feel like it, I let myself indulge and hit 3000 or more (with all nutritious foods except one of my choice). It's a strategy to let go of the ED completely and be okay with feling full. It's helped a lot and gets me to an average weekly calorie totaly of 2200.

Thank you for replying! =) I do have access to a gym, but my time there is limited until I get my license in may. I have an airdyne bike in the basement that I can ask my dad to pull out of the furnace room. Maybe I can do that everyday for like 30-45 minutes after school. It might even help me to destress after a long day. I have been getting a little stir crazy just sitting on the couch. |

This happens to me at least once a week because I can't avoid going out to eat with my family or friends. For example, last night was my school's father daughter dance and we out to an italian restaurant before and they have the best bread, fresh pasta, and yummy desserts. We all indulged in whatever we wanted. Today, I made sure that I mad healthy choices and stuck with my exercise routine. I did not restrict calories to make up for it and I will not exercise excessively either. (not like I can anyway, I just came off of surgery and am still rehabing). Next weekend, I have Valentine's Day plans and I plan to indulge again and then the weekend after that is my brithday and I will eat whatever I want on my birthday, thank you very much. I just make sure I eat well for the rest of the week. I have gained about 5 pounds doing this, but I am ususally extremely active and I am not right now so I am not too worried about. I will get into shape again soon. This may not have helped you at all, but long story short, just go on and eat healthy and don't obsess over it! =) |

So last year I started eating healthier to get serious about my sports (basketball and track) and to keep my body healthy. Trust me, I make sure I eat the right foods and get around 2500 calories a day because I knew that it is important to stay strong. So where's the problem, right? Well, it just happened to be for high school athletics since I had just begun my freshmen year. Basketball season was in the winter. We had practice 6 days a week for 2-3 hours for 6 months, right after coming out of summer basketball league. Then, that spring I ran distance. I lost about 18 pounds in those months. My mom, who was anorexic as a teen, and my dad, who was naturally 130 lbs and 6'3 in high school, both freaked out and thought that me going to an all girls school was pressuring me to be extremely thin. It took me just until last month to convince them that I want to stay healthy for ME. so frustrating! Also, I am hoping my better eating habits will rub off on them (they both have HORRIBLE diets) so they can have better overall health. And finally, I had knee surgery about 2 weeks ago and am out for a while ( and have been nerly inactive for 3 months). I was eating those 2500 calories for a month and realized I had put on a little weight so I went down like 300-500 and then I was starving. I'm nearly sedentary so I don't know how many calories I should be consuming while injured. Any advice? Sorry, this was WAY longer than I intended. |
