Maintaining gaining weight after starvation mode Feb 17 2009

I'm right there with you.  During my ED I lost about 30lbs, and then gained all of it back due to binging.  I was 140lbs last May when I decided to finally eat right, but then only began eating 1500 and got up to 144lbs, and then when I decided to finally get up to 2000 calories I got up to 149lbs.  However, I tried dieting in December, and after not seeing the scales move (I could have SWORN my metabolism was right again), I got so frustrated that the ED thoughts slipped back in and I began restricting again in January.  But, within the past 3 weeks I've been eating 2000-2500 calories, and am now up to around 155-ish.

My body's been on the ultimate roller-coaster within the past year, and I've decided to just suck it up and deal with it.  I hate it, but it's what I need to do.

During my ED I lost my period, too.  For six or seven months.  It wasn't until I began gaining extra weight after the binging that I got it back :/  Just try, try, TRY to hang in there.  Don't go back to your old ways.  I'm an example of how your body will turn on you in the worst of ways :/

Good luck!

I'll find a way to see you again
I'll find a way to see you again

I used to think that anything I'd do
Wouldn't matter at all anyway
But now I find that when it comes to you
I'm the winner of cards I can't play
Wait for me, wait for me
Darling, I need you desperately, desperately here

And I'll find a way to see you again
And I'll find a way to see you again

The rain is like an orchestra to me
Little gifts from above meant to say
Girl, you falling at his feet
Isn't lovely or stunning today
Wait with me, wait with me
I'm alive when you're here with me, here with me, stay

And I'll find a way to see you again
And I'll find a way to see you again

Why do the street lamps die
When you're passing by
Like a hand that won't stay on my shoulder tonight
If you held me close, would you laugh it away
Would you dare the glance that I steal to stay

And I'll find a way to see you again
Yes, I'll find a way to see you again
I'll find a way, a way, a way to see you again
I'll find a way, a way, a way to see you again
I'll find a way, a way, a way to see you again
The rain will bring, the rain will bring, the rain will bring, bring, bring me down
The rain will bring, the rain will bring, the rain will bring, bring, bring me down
The rain will bring, the rain will bring, the rain will bring, bring, bring me down

My best friend's 5'3" and usually around 95lbs, but she's now closer to 105lbs and is saying she's needing to lose weight :/ I'm like...girl, you're 16 y.o. and wear a kids 14 in jeans!!!

On the other hand, I'm 5'5" and ~147lbs and in a size 11 jean.  I need to lose weight.

So, yes, it does bother me.

Health & Support Everyone come here to rant!!!! Dec 30 2008

I'm recovered from an eating disorder.  I started eating right in mid-May, and then dieted.  Didn't work because my body was still in shock.  Began maintenance.  Maintained weight to regain metabolism until December.  Began dieting in December.  Went from 147lbs to 144lbs in about two weeks, and haven't lost weight since then.

I'm sick of it.  I feel as though I can't do this any more.  I can't be in this body any more.  It isn't me.  I eat healthily and just enough for my height and weight, and I'm about to start exercise back up.  I have a healthy body, but if you saw me you'd think I lived an unhealthy lifestyle.  I don't; I'm healthy.

I've come to the point where half of me is letting my ED thoughts seep back in, telling me to restrict and go back to bad habits.  They're telling me that since all of this isn't working, it would be the way for it to work finally.  But, the other half of me is telling me that the way to eventually lose weight is to just suck it up and maintain.  I've been arguing with myself all day about what to do.  If I were to maintain, I have a feeling it would have to be for longer than several months, but more like several years.  I've read of others' experiences where that's all that worked for them.  Waiting a long while until trying to lose weight again.

But, could I do that? Am I strong enough? I loathe maintenace.  I hate the way I feel when getting up to 2000 something calories every day.  I don't know if I could do it.  It's hard for me.  Dieting for me is easy.  I know it probably shouldn't be, but it is.  But, so is restricting. But, that's not something that's supposed to be easy, either.

Okay, that's my rant.  I'm stopping there.

Alrighty.  So, I should start eating a bit more.  I suppose I can do that :) I'll either start working out again in January or February, and when I do I do both weight lifting and cardio for an hour all together.  When I start eating more without exercise I'll probably go to around 1600.  But, with exercise, would I be eating too little and/or would my weight loss stop??

Sorry, this post has turned into something totally different.  But, since you brought it up, I'm curious.
Thank you for offering advice, though.  I really do appreciate it.

I know what you mean lalabanana.  I've been there, and that's why I'm curious as to how many calories is consumed for healthy teen weightloss.

So, I've changed the title, and added something in the body of the post.  I hope that's enough, for I really am wanting to know this.

I'm 15, 5'5.5", and about 147lbs.  I'm eating about 1200-1500 calories (I'm trying not to stick to a certain amount, just whatever works out for that day), and I'm currently not exercising.  However, I will be adding exercise within the next two months or so.  My goal weight is around 115-120lbs (I'll be at around a 19-20 BMI, so I'll still be healthy), and I really don't care how long it takes to get there, however a year or so is ideal.

Thank you all for replying, though :)

Kaybug: So, you're losing weight on that many calories?? We have the same stats (almost exactly, except I'm around 147...but that really doesn't matter).  I just started a diet again, and after coming out of starvation mode within the past couple of months I'm just curious as to how many calories teens normally eat to lose weight :) That's all.

I probably wouldn't.  I mean, if I had feelings for that person I wouldn't simply NOT date them because they were shorter than me.  But, I think it would be weird, still.

Weight Loss Should I continue to eat my BMR or drop it a little? Dec 19 2008

Irishmum, I know exactly where you're coming from.  I battled an ED from this time last year, until around May.  Right after I stopped my restricting, I decided to diet (smart, eh?).  That obviously didn't work.  I stayed around the same weight (actually gained about 5lbs, but that's not very surprising, given that I was still "increasing" my calories for my body at the time).  But, once I finally gave in after 3 months of dieting and no loss, I went on "maintenance" for a good 3-4 months, and then decided to try again.  Sure, I just started back up at the beginning of this month, but still no luck.  It's discouraging, to say the least.

I don't quite know what advice to give you, for I'm in the same boat as you, but what I can tell you to do is to hang in there.  It has to happen eventually, right?? I mean, really.  We're eating healthily, we're eating under the amount we supposedly burn, so we can't be overweight forever, right?? Just take whatever advice you can take, and try to follow it.

Good luck! Tell me if anything happens! I'd like to know :D

The Lounge What kind of shampoo do you use?? Dec 16 2008

I use Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine :)

I prefer not to use the cheaper ones (Suave, White Rain, Pantene, ect...) because I think they make my hair feel really gross and dry, but GF isn't much more expensive and it makes my hair feel great :) So, I just stick with that.

My sister's in beauty school, and she said that she learned that people really shouldn't use the shampoo's most use, because they aren't really healthy for our scalp (or something along those lines).  They dry it out or something.  So, in other words, they are worth it, even if they are expensive.

I'm really not sure.  I love all of it, pretty much :P

But, my mom gets Jif, so I eat that most of the time.  Out of the "healthier" PB's, I've only had Naturally More.  It's pretty good, it just doesn't have as thick of a consistency.

The fact that I've changed so much within the past year, I don't even know myself anymore.

That I'm at home alone on a Friday night, simply because I didn't want to have to hear my best friend talk about her boyfriend/my exboyfriend.

That my sinuses are driving me crazy, and my head's pounding :(

That I want to take a nap.
