Definitely wear two bras.  I found that two regular sports bras just didn't do it for me.  What really worked well was to wear an ugly 'granny bra' with panels, underwire, total coverage and no stretchy fabric as a base.  Wear it on the snuggest setting you can tolerate.  Like this one:

http://www.herroom.com/Playtex-4693-18-Hour-O riginal-Comfort-Strap-Bra.shtml?cm_vc=0201

Then put a high-quality, molded sports bra on top.  Again, wear it as snug as possible.  Like this one:

http://www.herroom.com/Anita-5527-Molded-Spor ts-Bra.shtml

Two regular, soft-cup sports bras don't work well because they're still too elastic.  Two underwire bras is totally uncomfortable.  They don't sit well together.  The combination of the underwire bra and the molded cup is great.

"No, thanks.  I don't want any."  That is the truth and should be good enough.  Stephanieahudson's idea also works.  If you already have something in your hand, they're less likely to offer you something else.  They don't need to know what's in your cup.

Not really.  But since you're still quite young, your skin is a bit more elastic and will recover a bit on its own.  Unlike mine.  Frown  The best you can do is buy some quality bras or get a boob job.

GI Jane's right.

But there's still the problem of eating better when all of your friends and family are urging you to eat 'just a little ice cream' even after you've explained your goals to them.

Instead of saying you can't eat something, try telling them you don't want to eat it... for whatever reason.  You're still full from lunch, you just brushed your teeth and it would taste bad (hmmmm, maybe start brushing your teeth a lot so you don't have to lie!), you've got a great dinner planned and don't want to spoil your appetite...  whatever.

People sometimes respond better to 'I don't want to' than to 'I can't'.

Not sure if its just me but it just seems like a lot of posts here on CC are from young adults (12-18 yrs old) all trying to loose some weight.  Lately it looks like most that were trying were at a good weight level to start with...what is disturbing is the number of individuals with ED.

I guess I am wondering has anyone noticed this or maybe its just me?

I am wondering is this the progression line for a person who trys to get their weight under control to end up obsessed to the other extreme?

Uh, Dave, those are pre-teens (12) and teenagers (13-18).

About the holier than thou mentality:

For those of us who are vegan or vegetarian because we don't support the unecessary killing of another being, it is difficult to just accept a prospective partner's viewpoint as a simple 'difference'. It is actually a completely different world view in that case, and thus may not be able to be reconciled. It's a lot bigger of an issue than it seems to the outsider, especially if you don't understand the moral/ethical/spiritual component.

I understand the moral/ethical/spiritual component.  I just don't agree.  Funny how, no matter the topic, if someone doesn't agree then they must not understand.  Poor souls.  X(

Texas - cornbread stuffing, although technically it's dressing since I make it on the side.  cornbread, a little white bread, butter, chicken/turkey broth, salt, pepper, rosemary, sage, paprika, thyme, garlic, onion, green onion, marjoram, a dash of nutmeg and boiled eggs.  There's no 'recipe'.  Just add things until it tastes 'right'.

Stove Top is nasty, but Wal-Mart's brand works ok if I'm really craving stuffing and don't want to actually make it myself (i.e. the other 364 days of the year!).

You could, but then you'd probably eat twice as many calories as if you'd eaten normally during the day and splurged just a little at the event.

You've already said it all....  portions size, self-control, water.

I'll add:  1. Don't deny yourself that piece of pie.  Take a smaller piece and enjoy it.  Eat it slowly.  2.  Don't worry about it.  If you mess up, forgive yourself and get back with it the next day.

Assuming you are able (time and abilitywise) to increase your workouts, then you should be able to lose weight without decreasing your cals.

You say you go to the gym twice a week, but what do you do there?  If you're not lifting heavy weights, you might want to consider adding that to what yo already do.

Ideally, you should exercise.  But weight loss is not a lost cause if you're not ready for that.  I didn't have as much to lose, but I lost the bulk of it without exercise becuase I just didn't have time.

Start small and build up.  Do you drink lots of soda, juice, beer or other high-cal beverages? -- Cut back.  Drink water or tea instead.  'Diet' drinks are just as bad as the normal versions but for other reasons.  Stop using milk and sugar in your coffee.  I was a 'milk and sugar with a drop of coffe' drinker.  I slowly used less and less milk and sugar.  Now I drink it black and love it.

When you eat a meal at home, serve yourself on a smaller plate, like a bread or salad plate.  The plate will be full and look like you have lots of food.  If you want more, drink a little water and wait 15 minutes before going back for seconds.  You might find that you're actually not hungry and don't want seconds.

Want a dessert?  Go for fresh fruit with a half a scoop of ice cream instead of the mounds of ice cream topped with chocolate syrup or whatever.  Just have half a piece of cake.

Eat a little less meat and a little more fruits and veggies.  Eat less white bread, rice, and pasta and more whole-grain versions.

I almost never buy the 'diet' version of anything.  They're never very good and don't satisfy my craving for sweet, salty, ....  I let myself indulge sometimes with beer, pizza, or (holy cow) two pieces of cake!  Sometimes I plan for it, sometimes I don't.  But either way I get back to the program the next day and don't wallow in self pity for falling off the wagon.  It happens sometimes.

When you're ready, you can start exercising if you don't start now.  Walking is better than nothing and FREE.  Swimming is great if you're not too embarassed to wear a swimsuit.  If you like company, you can join a gym or a sports team.  Most cities have women's softball, kickball, tennis, soccer, insertsporthere leagues that are pretty inexpensive to join.

Whatever you do, good luck.

In addition to explaining what you're doing to your parents, why not actually talk to them about why and how you're doing it?  Let them give their input.  Ask them what worries them.  Develop a plan together, and report to them on it.  Show them your calorie consumption each day so they know what you're eating.  Sit together and plan out dinners so that you know what's coming and can eat with them.

People are just dumb sometimes.  What they mean is, "Wow, you look great!"  What they say is some variation of ridiculousness that ends up being rude, intrusive, thoughtless and/or idiotic.  They don't even realize it usually.

So, how much do you weigh?  50 lbs less.  or my fav... Why do you ask?

It's probably just a thrid nip or something.  I dated a guy like that once.  We all thought it was hilarious.  Some of his friends actually used that as his nickname - 3rd nip.

To the real problem, check out your local pool, YMCA, YWCA, or other organizations with swimming facilities to see if they offer courses for adults.  I know recreation center in my hometown offers them.  Our local community college even offers a swimming class for adult beginners.

Calorie Count Help how many calories? Nov 02 2009

Yes, you asked specifically that we don't just send links, but this is a good link.  Read it.  Use it.

Basically, it says to lose about 1.2 lbs a week, he should eat ~3100 cals/day.  It says he burns ~3770 cals/day giving him ~670 cal/day deficit.

Due to his large size (at the bottom it explains that at 470 lbs, he's morbidly obese), he could safely increase the deficit (decrease the amount he eats) to ~2300 cals, but I think he'd be ridiculously hungry at that level.  I also think (opinion!!!) that if he's already hit a rough patch, this might not be a good idea.

It also explains that you can safely lose ~1% of your weight per week.  That means that as your weight decreases so does the amount you can safely lose.

Something it doesn't mention is that everyone is different.  Every body is different.  All calorie calculators are general guidelines.  This is why you might get such different recommendations from various sites and sources.

I'M NOT A DOCTOR, NUTRITIONIST, etc, etc.  It would be a good idea to visit a qualified medical doc or nutritionist.

Personally, I think he could stand to eat a little more.  If he's having problems now, it won't hurt to try for a month or so and see what happens.  If that doesn't work, then he could reduce calories again.  But reducing calories by too much can be a dangerous, slippery slope that does more harm than good.  Better to try first with more then later with fewer.

Since he's sedentary, it would be a good idea if he started some sort of physical activity.  I don't know how mobile he is, but even just walking to the end of the block each day would be good.

Health & Support I feel sick Nov 02 2009

Whether you can keep it down or not, you need to try to drink at least water.  Clear liquids like pedialite, sprite, low-fat broths, will help even more.  Very small sips.  Often.  V & D will dehydrate you making it even more difficult for your body to recover from the illness.

Once you can keep things down and they don't go straight through, try dry toast, plain crackers, or plain scrambled eggs.  Once that's ok, you can move on to whatever you want in small amounts.

You should aim for at least 1800 cals/day.  PERIOD.

Since I don't know the general height of people in your family, I can't comment on how tall you are/might be/should be...  Some people are short, some are tall.  It can be affected by your diet if you undereat, but that's a relatively unimportant thing to consider.

What's most important is the overall development of your body - brain tissue/functioning, organs, and general health.  At 17, you're still developing.  If you undereat now, it could have lasting effects on your overall health, your mental abilities in the future, and your ability to learn new things now... among other physical problems.

Young people need more calories to support all this development that is going on ...even when you're sitting on your rump watching tv or sleeping.

Be sure to eat enough.

By the way, you don't sound overweight to me.  If you want to 'look better', try lifting some weights to give yourself some muscle definition.
