Yea, I know what you mean!  I work at a store and yes, I have to buy the food I eat there, unless I bring food from home, and I do that a lot, because I do not have the money!

But there is this one lady that comes in every so often, (a temp job recuriter) and she brings in stuff, sometimes a box of glazed donuts.  Now, these are the GOOD donuts, from a bakery.  I am like, I don't have that very often so I eat one!  Usually I can stay with only one, because I wait til later in the day, but I still eat one and maybe at times, I shouldn't.  (But I think it's better to sometimes have one every now and then then to completely banish it from yourself and then you get SOOOO hungry for it, you go overboard!)

Weight Loss Breakfast: Is it really that important? Nov 16 2008

I have heard that, true, you don't have to eat breakfast every morning.  But if you are trying to lose weight, it's a must!  Just my thoughts.

Just like me, I take out trash in our apartment building in the mornings that I don't have to work.  I do have to do that on an empty stomach, because I'm afraid if I don't, I will have extra work to do, like cleaning up my own puke.  But afterwards, I do eat.

Sorry, that maybe was kinda gross up there.  I didn't meant for it to be.  I'm just saying....what I do.

I don't think it hurts to eat it at night, but you may want to change it around a little, maybe knowing that you will have extra, just eat a little more earlier in the day.

About the spray, I think maybe one spray doesn't, but if you put five on, it will count up or something like that.  I have heard that same thing, that they do have calories especially if you don't stay with that one spray or whatever.  I hope I kinda made sense.

Weight Loss Info on Cheat Days Please?? Apr 16 2008

Original Post by josielynn:

I have my cheat days on the weekends.  I don't try to record anything, but I try hard to not eat over maintenance (guestimating).

Some weekends I am just so busy that I way undereat, too, but I try not to worry about that either. (I either overeat by 500ish or undereat by 500ish when counting, so I guess weekends have to be the same too, haha!)

Yes, I understand that, most days, I try to stay within my limit, but on Sunday's when I go out to my parents, or when I go to my parents-in-laws, or to Bible study, they always have somekind of sweets there.   I still try to stay under or at my burn meter, especially at my parents and Bible Studies.

Edited: (added)  I try to stay a 1000 calories below my burn meter, but if I get close to that, maybe by only 500 or 300, I think, oh well, I'll try better tomorrow!  Some days, I may also not eat at much, especially, if I keep walking and so forth, I mean it seems the more you exercise, your calories intake or whatever, (the burn meter) goes up!  But oh well.

I just invented a new exercise -- aerobic snickering.

That is too funny!  I like that exercise!  Maybe I won't get too sore with this one!

About the diet, I don't know, if I did try it, I'd do it part time, one week do it and the next week eat like real people or something, I don't know.

Weight Gain starvation mode? Apr 08 2008
00:27 (UTC)

Wow, this thread has been interesting to say the least!

I am very heavy, and I'm working on slimming down a LOT!  But before I came to this site, I didn't understand the way to eat.  I decided to go on a 1400 calorie a day 'diet' and I soon was very hungery and for a long while, I was just very tired.  Granted, I likely didn't get as much sleep as I should have been, I couldn't even hardly watch a tv program without falling asleep.

I have been eating almost 1000 below my burn meter now for almost a month.  I have my cheat days already, likely too many, but I couldn't help if Easter came right soon after I begun!  Some days, I do eat more, hence I don't have the 1000 calorie difference, but I figure anything is better then a 1400 calorie! Smile (Well completely overeating isn't better, but you get my drift!)

It's a little of both, it just depends.  I know it's cheaper to make your own stuff, but I also like the prepackaged and so forth.  One thing I did yesterday, was eat a king size Mr. Goodbar and hence the calories were almost 400 if I remember right, but the point is, it was pretty well empty calories.  Frown

True again!

I guess I feel like I can deal with this, especially since I tried to eat only 1400 calories a day, and I was always hungery!  I didn't understand that I need more to eat to burn more!  (It's still kinda hard to believe it, but then again, it kinda makes sense too!)

And yes, I have had a few cheat days already, when I went up to my parents in laws over easter, I kinda watched what I ate, but I didn't record anything, (so I likely ate more then I should have) and then when I go out to my parents, which isn't often but does happen, and Monday we went out to chinese to eat.  I haven't been there for well over six months or  more and I was craving for that food!  Anyways, thanks for the tips and everything!  Smile

Also it may not quiet be 1000 calories below, but I strive for that, but I figure if I go under that, it won't hurt every so often, (I mean only like 900 or so instead of 1000). Hope you know what I mean!

Edited:  I tried the 1400 calorie 'diet' for about a month, then I gave up for about a month, then I found this and understood it more, about eating more to lose more.  (I actually gained wieght with it!)

That is true!

But I usually eat this way, well for the last three weeks maybe so I have been doing pretty good.  I do believe that I figured out what was the problem though.  My sister reminded me that she had read it somewhere, and I have read it too, that diet soda makes you want to take in more calories, and I believe that may be the reason, I had two cans of diet soda yesterday.  So anyways, I went to bed and I was ok with it.

LOL!!!  Just think about how you'd feel if you signed up with the site, and you put in one weight and you went and weighted yourself the next day and you had gained 9 pounds??  Then you don't weigh again for two weeks or so, you have to stare at that thumbs down for that long!  Well that is my story!  But now I have thumbs up again!  YEAAAAAA!

I have over 100 pounds to lose!  I am on the way, I think.  I was heavy all my life almost every since I was 3....so, yea.

Edited:  Starting wieght: 346, gained nine pounds in about a month or so, (I gave up) and now I am back down to 346 and my goal weight for now is 250.  Once I get there, I'm sure I won't quit, I'd like to go to 150 or 130, but I won't complain at 150 though!  I am 5'4" and meduim boned.

That is funny how some people think they are doing good and they eat horribly!

But I kinda did that, well this is what I did.

I went shopping for food and was hungrey for liver, so I got a package of beef liver. I came home and this morning I decided to see how much calories it had, it's like 700 to 900 and I almost flipped out! I will still eat it, (I'll work it in) but I likely wouldn't have bought it if I had checked it out before. Oh well, I know now!

Edited:  I just looked again and it may not be that terrible bad, it says a piece, but for 3 oz. it's only 100 some calories and the pieces that I have is likely like 4 oz., so maybe it's not too aweful bad.

Well first of all, congrats!

Now about your friends, I'll tell you my experience.  I am very overweight and I have two sisters, one is overweight and the other one might be a few pounds over (hence I'd say she's perfect) but she is a few pounds over.  When we talk, I'm like to myself, I wouldn't complain if I weighed what she does, but then again, I realize it's best if you are at your ideal weight.  And if you are 30 to 45 pounds over, I would advise you to get a handle on it now, instead of waiting until it's a lot harder.  (I have always been overweight, at least 85% of my life).  So keep up the good work and don't worry about what they say!  (That can be hard to do too, I know!) Smile

Well ideally, I think you should avoid diet soda if possible, but in case where you are in school, that can be hard, believe me, I have been there myself!

I used to drink the regular and I will every once in a great while drink a regular, but if I do have any, it's usually just one can a day.  Now this weekend will be different, as we (hubby and I) will be going to my in-laws and they always have soda!  I did tell my hubby to tell them I drink diet so they don't think they have to get the regular for me!

Anyways, that's my view.

See ya,

Hey, welcome to the 'club'!

I am fairly new here too, I joined a week or so ago.  I have just been counting calories but of course if you KNOW something has high fat in it, you should limit it.  Actually I may have it wrong, (except the limiting it, I mean) so if anyone else can give you a better picture, I hope they do!

Good luck on your journey!

Elimation is the hardest part for me most of the time though!

Weight Loss A Big Girl no more...what I won't miss. Have any to share? Mar 17 2008

There are so many more that I just thought of!  I will have to include!

I will so love when I can stop walking into doors or walls, because my mind thinks I am smaller then I really am and I don't give enough space for my huge body to go through.  (I have never been thin, but sometimes my judgement is off!)

About getting in someone else's cars, I know about being afraid that the seat belt won't fit, and/or that I may break the seat or something.

Another thing is being respected as a person period!  I mean there are people that takes me serious but a lot of times, they just start talking even while I am talking.  (Granted that I do have a slight speach defect, I had a seizure when I was a toddler and I believe I had to relearn to talk because I didn't talk afterwards for a long time.) So it may be that, and I know that won't likely improve when I lose weight but being so big, not so hot!

Another thing is going to someone else's place and fearing the chair won't hold you, or you will break their couch or something.

One time when I was taking care of this one lady, I sat on her bed and the bed broke!  That was SOOOOOOO embaressing!  Dad did fix the bed but still!

Another thing, my feet gets so tired from being on them.  That will be great if the feet won't hurt so much and my knees will stop hurting.....oh, I can't hardly wait!

Oh, I know exactly how you feel!  I just started on my journey, but I agree about the shoes.  I can reach my left foot pretty good and put shoes and socks on, but my right hip, it just doesn't allow me to bring my foot close enough to do it!  So, I usually wear shoes that I can just slip in without socks and if I do wear shoes, I get my hubby to help.

I won't miss being out of breath, and chapped thighs and my HUGE belly AND my big butt!  I can't wait til I can sleep in a regular bed also.  I have back and hips problems, (hopefully that will improve also) so I can't sleep flat, I need an adjustable bed so I can sleep!  There are many others, also, like having smaller clothes, that I can go shop at goodwill if I choose to, and I won't have to worry as much to if I smell or not!

Ok, I think I understand, I thought I did before, but I read something from another post and I got confused.  So I can use the burn meter on my cc and subtract 1000 calories then?

Thanks, sometimes it takes me a while before it fully sinks in, I guess.

Yes, I love the fact that it grades it!  I just ate a smoked sausage and low and behold, it was graded a big fat F!  I knew it likely wasn't the best thing to eat, but it looked good so I had one.

I'm new too and want it to work!  So keep it up and hopefully it will work!

Weight Loss someone slap me Mar 14 2008

I won't slap you.  For one reason only!  I started watching what I eat and everything, (I was signed up to another site, fitday.com) but I didn't understand how much I need to eat or anything.  I was trying to eat only 1400 and I needed 1800 on a regular day and 2000 or more if I do excerise.  So I was so hungery, that I got discouraged and gave up.  Which you were busy and I was just lazy and discouraged, a difference but none the less.  (And you were eating what you are supposed to and you did not gain anything, which I did!)

Anyways, keep up and maybe like someone else said up the line, maybe that was good to take a break!  Cool

Weight Loss I am scared!! Mar 14 2008

Yes, I indeed was starving at 1400!   I would call mom and tell her that I'm just hungery!  Since I learned I needed to eat more, and I thought about it for a while, it started to make sense, I mean I was scared to eat more!

But I am hoping the next time I step on the scales which will be about 2 weeks from now, I am hoping it will tell me that I am on the right track!

Thanks for all your encouragements!   I may have said it on this thread before, but I may have said it at another post, but I was in on fitday.com and while that is a pretty good site, it didn't work for me.  First of all, I didn't understand that I need to eat more, (which is likely the biggest thing why it didn't work for me) I didn't have people to connect to and get encouragement!

Weight Loss Confused Mar 14 2008

Hi Friggie,

Welcome to the "club"!  I know what you mean!  I just joined the other day, and I was like, whoa!  I am going to try it and while it is hard to wrap my little head around it, it does almost make sense!  Now let's see if my body makes sense of it! Laughing  See if we don't give our bodies what it needs to keep functioning, it will go into a 'starve mode' and then it will try to keep the weight.  If we don't eat quiet enough to keep the weight that we have, we will lose.  I hear that you want anywhere from 500 to 1000 difference.  I was trying to be on 1400 calories and I was starving or it felt like it!  I was hungery!

I would say you sure aren't sedentary, I am that!  I do add anything on that I do through out the day.

I was with fitday.com and I love this so much better!  There are people here that you can ask, a lot that is going through the same thing or has been through it.  I wish you good luck on it.

I know what you mean!  I am overwieght myself and have been all my life pretty well.  I am supposed to eat around 2000 or 2100 calories and it's hard to wrap my little brain around that!  I am scared too!  Last night I weighted myself and I gained instead of lost, but I had kinda given up the last month.  I am back on, although today I kinda blew my calories again, but I am not giving up!  I agree, set small goals, and try to achieve them, (now this is where I have to listen to myself!) and once you achieve them, you will know you can do it!

YOU CAN DO IT!!  I know, I was at the same place as you, I was so confused by how much I needed to eat.  I mean I watched biggest loser, (and I'm hooked) and I was like, how much do I need?  I tried to do 1400 calories and I was always hungery!  Anyways, I hope this helps, a tiny bit at least!
