Ok lets do this!! :)

1. Calorie Count Name (user id): jdelfs
2. Name you prefer to be called in discussions: Jessica
3. Age & Sex: 24, Female, approaching the big 2-5 in July, ahh!
4. General Location: Tucson, AZ
5. Married? Single? Boyfriend, but he's in Iraq so it seems like I'm single lol!
6. Kids? Furbabies? No kids yet, but can't wait to have a big family
7. Favorite color? PINK!!!
8. Favorite movie? I'm gonna go with the typical chick answer and say "The Notebook"
9. Hobbies? I LOVE to cook, I started my own garden recently so thats kinda new, I'm a sports junkie, and I love going to the gym (Its a new found thing lol)
10. Favorite Snack? any kind of chips and dip, its horrible!
11. Favorite Beverage? Iced Tea
12. Biggest Obstacle to Getting Healthy? at first it was just learning portion sizes. I had the Lap-Band surgery a little over a year ago, so going from 2 plates of food to maybe a small salad plate of food was really hard.
13. Weight/Fitness Goal? I have lost about 80 lbs this past year and have about 100 more to go. I had a lot of weight to lose when I started this journey, but its a marathon not a sprint! I wanted to do it the healthy way, and learn a new lifestyle, rather than have it all fall off right away and never learn what I needed to do to keep it off the rest of my life
14. Least Favorite Household Chore? Cleaning bathrooms lol! I have to hire someone to do it, it seriously grosses me out!
15. How did you find Calorie Count? By a fluke really! I was trying to find nutritional info for another site and came across this one and liked it a lot more!
16. Anything Else You'd Like To Share?  Well, like I mentioned above I had the Lap Band surgery a little over a year ago, and its a very unique way of eating! Its not like a bypass where you can pretty much eat whatever and still lose weight. You still have to watch what you eat and workout or the weight wont come off, you're just getting some major help in the "portion size" area. But if anyone else has been through this, I'd love to meet you and be here for support! Even if you havent, I'm huge on support and keeping eachother encouraged and I'm willing to do that for anyone thats looking for that! I'm super outgoing and energetic and would love to meet as many people as possible!! So bring it on!!! :)

Congrats!!! Keep up the great work! It sounds like you've made some awsome lifestyle changes! Just make sure you adopt those changes from now on, even when you do reach your goal...if you do, you'll never end back up where you were!! Great job!!!!

Kudos to you! Seee that's what being healthy is all about! Its just making "better" choices of the things we love! Its not about depriving yourself until you hit your goal, because you will binge once you feel like you're "home free" and gain it all back! Good for you for not sacrificing taste, but making a better, healthier choice! I think that's a major sign of a "life change" mentality rather than a "just until i reach my goal" train of thought!! It looks like long term success is in your future!!

Weight Loss New Goal, what do you think? Mar 13 2008

I think your 120-125 goal is super realistic! You mentioned not really thinking you looked skinny before at 130, but were you working out then? You might weigh the same in numbers, but if your muscle mass is changing your body will look different, ie skinnier :) that was a rough one for me too!!
Fitness Burning calories - elliptical vs. stairmaster Mar 13 2008

Girl!!! I am right there with you...i could last all day on the elliptical, but that stairstepper is going to be the end of me lol! I'm one of those people that just jump on the machine and hit the quick start button and go to town, but then i FINALLY realized (it took me long enough!) that obviously the more you weigh, the more calories you're going to burn. A 150 lb person may not burn as many calories as lets say a 300 lb person. For example, (i know this only because i tested this last night lol) that when i just do the quick start and go for it on the stairs the estimated calories per HOUR was like 600 something. So then i start over and put my weight in and lo and behold the estimated calories per hour LEAPED to 995!!!! Now I'm not part of the "1 hour stair stepper" club, not YET :) but i agree with iamme1270...I was a leaner...I'll admit it and could only do 15 min MAX, but a trainer friend at the gym came over and pretty much gave me the same exact speach...stand up straight, push through the heals, etc. So when i did (with his watchful eye on me) it SLASHED my time to like 7 minutes before I thought I was literally going to pass out and DIE!!! So even though it sucks that my time is cut off a litte, I'm working back up to those 15 minutes and hopefully a little longer, your body just needs to get used to the new "right" way of doing things lol!

But try entering your weight when you start, if you're not already...it might change!! Sorry this got so long, I didnt mean to write a novel for everyone!!

Weight Loss Am I being too impatient? Mar 13 2008

Everyone is different so its hard to compare :) But i have been losing weight for a year now, and Im about 80 lbs down and work out about 5 days a week too, I know it can be sooo frustrating when you're not seeing the "fruits of your labor" I'm not sure if you are already, but some great advice that really helped me was to always have at LEAST 3-5 OZ of lean protein at every meal and snack. That protein is like gas to a flame (your metabolism) the fruits and veggies are fantastic for filling you up without a lot of fat or calories, but they arent going to "sustain" your metabolism like protein will, i.e. a 1 oz piece of reduced fat cheese, veggies with some reduced fat peanut butter, and of course your meats, even low sodium lunch meats are great.

What I found was that I was following the book, like you sound like you're doing (which is fantastic!) but I ran into a wall because I was working out so much, and my body didnt have enough "fuel" i was going on fruits, veggies, a maybe a little meat, but when you're working out that hard and there isnt enough protien the body goes into "starvation mode" even though you feel like you're eating all the time, its stuff thats not "sticking" with you, so when the body goes to burn of fat, the body basically says "no way Im storing this energy, because i dont get a lot and i dont know the next time i'll get it again". Once I started following the protein at every meal advice, the weight just started FALLING off. It wasnt what I was doing (ie eating the wrong foods, etc) it was what i wasnt doing, like feeding my body the fuel it needed.

I hope this helps and I wish you lots of success and pounds shed :) I didnt mean for this to get that long lol! Take care!

I agree, I've been training for years, and anything you eat right before you go to the gym, won't effect your workout...the best is about 30 before or after.

I have done the carb thing, like pasta and granola, but its not worth the extra calories or sugar, its almost like shooting yourself in the foot, in my opinion. Because unless you're making your own granola bars, they are hard to find with little sugar or carbs...

In my opinion, and everyone is different is something like celery or carrots with a reduced fat peanut butter. You still will be getting in some sugar, but not enough to off set your workout, and the celery and carrots are practicaly free foods, calorie, sugar and fat wise...that peanut butter has loads of protein and THAT is what fuels a workout, not sugar or carbs, a good lean protein, even like egg whites or grilled chicken...

That's what has worked best for me! Hope this helps!!
