I think it's something like, if you drink a cold glass of water you'll burn a couple extra calories warming like. By a couple, mean like 5 calories. I've never heard your theory about warm foods though. I wouldn't worry about it if I was you, I think the calorie difference is minimal. |

I feel the same way. I don't want to work out in the morning or during a 'lunch break' or whatever because I'll have to take a shower, re-do my hair and makeup, and that's just not something I want to do, it takes too long! So I work out in the evening, once I'm home for the night. |

Surprisingly string cheese and wheat thins. They're not even my favorite foods. Give me a favorite like pizza and I can have an appropriate amount and then stop. But if there's a bag of string cheeses in the house, I will eat *all* of them! I am completely unable to stop myself. Same with wheat things, I'll tell myself, "ok, here's my one serving" and then put the box away. Wont work, I'll keep eating and eating until it's all gone. I simply am unable to have those foods in the house. |

Personally, I would skip it. But if you really really really feel you need to have it, then I'd immediately cut it in half and throw half of it away (don't let your friend see) and then only eat half. |

Hi Danabell, if you're losing motivation then something's up. Are you 'spending' your daily calories on high calorie foods? If you're drinking a lot of calories and eating calorie dense food, then the volume of food you eat is going to be less and you'll end up hungry. Try eating more filling, lower calorie foods so that you can eat more. Remember, this needs to be something you can do for the rest of your life, not something you just white-knuckle through until you've lost the weight. I know exercise sucks, but you need to have a positive mindset about it. It only takes about an hour from your day, which isn't much, and you get so many benefits from it. Don't think of it as a tool to lose weight, think of it as a healthy habit (like brushing your teeth), that if you don't do you'll have serious health consequences. Even thin people need to exercise for good health. |

| Weight Loss | what made you fat/gain a lot of weight? | Apr 03 2008 16:19 (UTC) |

I was always an overweight kid. It wasn't for lack of running around and playing though, I just ate *a lot*. I would sit down with a box of cheezits and a couple of sodas and eat the whole box, and I could do that every evening. But I didn't realize I was over-eating. I thought it was all normal. After all, on TV and commercials you see these thin people pigging out, drinking regular soda and having hamburgers. I could not understand why I was fat! When I moved out of the house (and thus away from all the junk food) for college, I lost a lot of weight. There's been a bit of yo-yo dieting since then, but I'm hoping to do it right this time. I still have a huge appetite and can polish off a whole box of anything, so I just don't keep any of it in the house. |

Ok, weigh in! SW: 132 CW: 126 I've lost 6lbs since I began this weight loss journey! I'm glad to be back at 126. I'm hoping for 125 at next week's weigh in. My weight seems to fluctuate a lot, but my BF% is down, and my clothes are getting loose, so that's all I care about! Simignonne: I recommend you take zinc. I take it daily, and haven't had a cold in about 7 years. When my husband gets colds (he doesn't take zinc daily), he'll take the zinc or buy zinc lozenges and gets over his cold in a day or two. Morisht: A good way to check the accuracy of your scale is to weigh a weight on it. For example, place a 10lb free weight on it and see what it says. If it says anything other than 10lbs, you'll need to do a little math when you weigh yourself on it. Even though I own an expensive digital scale, it weighs everything as being half a pound heavier, so I just keep that in mind when I weigh myself.

| Weight Loss | i only want to eat 600 calories a day | Apr 01 2008 15:54 (UTC) |

Just to reiterate what everyone is saying. I've been there, I can tell you first hand it's not a good idea. I was living off of 500 calories a day (sometimes less) and exercising hard for an hour. For a couple days you feel like maybe you can live that way because your body is using it's reserves, but after a week you're passing out left and right. I lived that way for 2 years, I was underweight and unhealthy. I looked terrible. Being hungry like that constantly messes up how you think. I thought I looked fat and I was agitated and angry with everyone. Now my metabolism is messed up. I have to strength train a lot to try and rebuild my muscle mass and fix my bone density. This is how you end up where I am right now, trying to undo all the damage. It's not worth it. Forget about losing weight "fast". Do it right once so you don't have to do it 'fast' over and over again for the rest of your life as your weight rises from your destroyed metabolism. |

1650 sounds good to me for a day when you don't exercise. 1800 on days you do exercise. What's your exercise regimen? Make sure you're also lifting weights 3 days a week so you don't lose muscle mass. |

The burn meter is how many calories you burn in a day. If you eat that amount you will maintain your weight. If you want to lose you need to deduct at least 500 calories (1 lb a week weight loss), or exercise to burn that much extra. |

Denise, it sounds like you're in denial. It's like spending a lot of money and then being afraid to check your bank account because you don't want to know how bad it is. Not knowing doesn't magically change the fact. You need to weigh yourself, probably daily, at least weekly so that when you see the number you can be motivated to change it. You should also come to terms with your body image and actually go shopping. Those free clothing bins are for people in need. There was a time when I weighed 50lbs more than I do now and I thought, "why bother shopping if I'm just going to lose weight, besides I hate the way I look now." Well, weight loss is a long slow journey. You may only go down a dress size once every 2 months. Buy a couple cheap outfits and make yourself look good! If you take care of your appearance, dress nice, put on makeup, do your hair, you're going to want to eat better! |

Well, you've lost 50lbs in 4 or so months, so congratulations to that first of all! You should be very proud of yourself, that is fairly fast weight loss. Even though you *should* be losing weight at your current regimen, your body is probably like, "what the hell, I'm down 50lbs?! Time to stop this right now!" Your body doesn't want to lose weight, it wants to gain weight. That's why it's making this tough for you. You should probably eat more, stay at the 1500 instead of the 1200, and add 3 strength training sessions a week in addition to your exercise. |

| Weight Loss | A Cheat Day? | Mar 31 2008 18:36 (UTC) |
8 |
I have a cheat day once a week, usually Saturday. I figure I'm probably going to mess up on the weekend anyway, better to have it planned than to feel like I'm a failure and binge. Even though it's a 'cheat' day, you should still regulate it. Yes, go ahead and eat more calories than usually, but don't turn it into a massive binge. For example, I'll order something at a restaurant that I know is a couple hundred calories more than I would normally get, and then I might have a lower calorie dessert. That's my cheat. It's not straight up stuff your face with whatever the hell you want for 24 hours. Anyway, the additional calories tricks your body so it doesn't go into starvation mode and revs up your metabolism. On Saturday when I cheated I had some pizza and a snickers ice cream bar. I thought that maybe I had over done it, but the next morning when I weighed myself, I had lost weight. |

I've also heard that the caffeine being dehydrating isn't true. Even still you should be careful not to have too much caffeine so that you dont end up with withdrawl symptoms (headaches, etc) and insomnia. Tea counts as water, as well as soda, kool-aid, crystal light, etc. You just still need to count the calories in it. |

There's also quinoa (pronounced "keen-wah"). It's a grain/seed and you cook it sort of like rice. It's a complete protein like tofu. You can make it however you want, so no sodium or sugar if that's what you're into. |

The fondue restaurants I've been too usually also offer salads, so that's something to consider. If you're with your friends, you may be tempted to order drinks, you should avoid that. If you do get the fondue, I would just lightly dip, instead of smothering it. |

Adavis is correct, carmine has been used for a long time as a dye. It's very hard to find makeup that doesn't have it in it. Everydayminerals.com uses minerals instead of carmine though. As a vegetarian I avoid carmine as much as possible. |

Well, I never eat at fast food restaurants, but at other restuarants I've figured out how to get 500 cal dinners from most places. Noodles and Co, Panera Bread, Chipotle, etc. Some places, like Macaroni Grill or Unos are a little more difficult. |

Hey, if you want to be 130, more power to you. My husband is 6' and 145lbs, so you're probably aiming for a build similar to his. He's just naturally slim. I'd have never guessed you were biologically female. As a straight woman I have no problem telling you that you look really hot! |

I'm not 'big' on vegetables either. I find that if they're cut up small and seasoned then they're very good and manageable though. I often find that in stirfries or food from restaurants, the vegetables are cut bigger than I like. So I get a huge forkfull of something and I'd rather just skip it. Here's a healthy, quick microwaveable meal for you. drain and empty a can of beans into a bowl. Whatever beans you like: pinto, black beans, navy, whatever. Add in 2/3 cup of morning star veggie burger crumbles. Microwave 2 minutes, stirring halfway through. Mix in a packet of sazon goya seasoning. Very filling and delicious. Tons of fiber, tons of protein, 500 calories. |

Gals, I'm kind of sad now. I weighed myself this morning and I weighed 129. I've been sticking with my diet and exercising. I'm pretty sure that it's just water weight because I feel very bloated and my BF% has gone down even though the scale has gone up 2.5lbs. Even though I can be logical about this, it's just kind of upsetting... I've been working hard, I want to see the scale go down, not up! I guess I just have to keep on keeping on. |

They say you need to switch it up at least every 2 weeks. I use the elliptical, but I set it at a program that changes the intensity randomly throughout the workout, so I think that helps. I also follow the regimen in 'The Body Sculpting Bible For Women' book. It changes every 2 weeks, and then after 6 weeks you start over (increasing your weights as you go through). |
