Thanks for all your comments and advice.  I have such a carb phobia now that is hard to break.  I'm trying to stick to 1200 calories and exercise and just make better choices.  I appreciate everyones comments.

Thanks,

Michele

It's nice to meet all of you!  Strange how you get a visual of people just from reading their posts.  I really do think the SBD is a healthy way of eating.  I'm kind of an all or nothing person, so I'm either right on track and doing great or i mess up a little and all hell breaks loose.  So if I keep things real simple I do great, but it's the things that don't fit in perfectly that mess me up.  I think it is the proteins I get confused with.  Sometimes I don't want meat, chicken, eggs, fish at all.  I want black bean soup for lunch, or just some salad with crumbled reduced fat feta.  It is trying to get all the food to fit into the daily food plan.  Can the reduced fat cheese , cottage cheese or the beans in the meal actually be the whole protein in a meal?

That is what gets to me when i try going to stage two also, I try to fit the food into the plan but then it is like a bazillion calories.  Like cereal and milk and veggie and fat and 2 ounces protein for breakfast.  I get the whole concept that you need the fat and protein to slow down the carbs, but it seems to wind up being too many calories to lose weight for me at least.  Then I give up.  How do you guys do it and make it work?  Do you follow the daily meal breakdowns?

Thanks for the info.  My pressure has been up and if I can reduce the sodium it may help.

Wow, how do you stay so low on sodium?  I just realized how much sodium I eat from tracking on here and I don't add salt to anything.  Even with watching I can't seem to go below 2000mg.  What do you eat?  Also while following the SBD do you guys stick to the rules when you go to stage 2?  I mean coninue to eat the protein and vegie at a meal and also the good carb.  For instance a bowl of high fiber cereal would be filling, do you also eat the 2 ounces protein and vegetable/oil?  Where does lowfat cheese fit in?  Can it be the protein in a meal?  Sorry for all the questions, but since I have stuck to the principals but never lost weight I figured I must be doing something wrong here!

Thanks,

Michele

Hi all,

I'm Michele

NJ

157lbs , 40yrs old, 5'1"

Have done SBD for a couple years but never stuck with it and I wind up cheating after a week doing perfectly.  All in all I wound up gaining 20lbs in 2 years, but my cholesterol is great.  Now I really need to lose.  Do you guys track calories also while staying on the SBD?

Thanks for the info.  I am actually 40.  I'm not really sure what that means.  I thought 1200 seemed low, but that is what it told me.  I guess that is bare minimum.

Hi, I am 40 years old and I have 3 sons ages 16,14 and 6.  I have tried the south beach diet for 2 years and in the end I have not lost any weight.  So, now I need to try and stay low calorie and continue to stick to good foods.  I am 5'1" and weigh 150lbs.  I'm looking forward to getting thinner, exercising a little and am happy to get to know you.

Actually I am not a sweets eater at all.  I actually crave real food and salty food more than sweets.  The problem is that I really tried to stick to the south beach diet and I did not lose weight.  I am 150lbs and only 5'1".  So when I punch in my numbers I get a daily calorie suggestion of 1200.  I'm just sick of eating what is considered good fats and good carbs on the south beach diet.  Once in awhile I want a muffin and not one made with no sugar or sugar substitute.  For instance vita tops muffins seem good to me, but on the south beach diet they are bad.  I'm not sure I believe that a little real sugar is terrible for me.  In sticking to the SBD plan I think I was eating too much protein and fat.  It is hard to stay at 1200 calories and eat 8 ounces protein, 2.5 tablespoons fat, 5 cups vegetables, 2 cups milk, and good carbs from whole grains and fruit too.  I believe in the basin principals of that diet, but sometimes I just want a whole wheat english muffin for breakfast and not accompanied by 2 ounces protein and vegetables.  Sometimes I want a yogurt and not a sugar free fat free yogurt. Or maybe just a nutrigrain waffle, or a bran muffin.   I'm trying not to go back healthwise, but i would like to expand my choices a little.  On the SBD the good carb choices guidelines are really no sugar,no white flour, tons of fiber per serving.  It eliminates some food choices such as the vitatop muffins, nutrigrain waffles, lean cuisine meals.  I prefer these more than meat and eggs.  Personally I would rather have more carbs plus veggie burgers, fruit and vegies, but I don't want to wind up eating unhealthy.
