Cooking grillled salmon and spaghetti squash for supper. It is smelling good and I am getting hungry. Hope I can taste it through this miserable cold I have.

I cooked turkey breakfast sausages today and my cats went insane begging me for some before they even finished cooking. Surprised They never ask for people food unless it's white fish from M&M. That, they love. Animals never cease to amaze me.

Margaret - Was talking to my mum on the south coast (Worthing) and she said it was absolutely lashing with rain. Be careful out there!

Chris - any particular jewelry from the southwest in mind? Maybe a turquoise and silver belt? You have been coveting belts lately!

Lee - Buttons looks adorable. I have never seen a cat hump a person before. That's dog behavior, isn't it? Great that you can get him fixed for cheap. What are you buying Kyle for Xmas?

Alice, I think your retirement list will be one of the most interesting of all the ones I will ever see. You are never afraid of challenges and have more energy than that roadrunner from the catroons. My favorite cartoon, actually. No matter how many times the anvil dropped on the coyote, or he fell off the cliff, I laughed every time. Beep! Beep!

There's a lot of Xmas talk going on around here!

I will be doing some shopping on Black Friday as I will be in Arizona and hopefully finding great items. I never have that many gifts to buy. Such a small family. I got an adorable little backpack with a 3D moose on it when I was in Quebec for my 2 year old great niece. She's the only little kid I buy for. My family is scattered to the 4 winds, and we are never all together for Xmas. What does one get for an 80 year old mom who has everything? Her eyesight is failing so maybe I'll try to get her onto some audio books with a good MP3 player that she can operate easily. Ideas, anyone?

Beb - April 19th was my dad's birthday, my parents' wedding anniversary (1950), and my niece's birthday (she is 21). Big day in my family!

Beb - you must not bring the junk in, as Alice says, it's the undoing for sure. BANISH JUNK!! If you need comfort, buy a very special and beautiful teacup along with some gourmet tea and brew yourself a cup each evening, savoring the aroma and banishing all thoughts of cookies and candy and treats from your mind. I am down 11 and things are going slowly but they are going, so rawk on everybody and stay strong!

Bonnie - Queen of Mowing is about to retire for the season. Hang up your blades, girl. Before you know it, it will be April. Congrats on a successful season.

I always cut the cats' claws. I either lay them on their back on my lap or sit them on their bum with their back against my body and clip away. It only takes a few minutes and they are used to it because they have had it done since they were babies. They have sctratching posts to use so I never have damaged furniture. One of my cats, I affectionately call "Grappalina" whenever she stands up and grapples at my thighs or bum when I am cooking. With long nails it would be painful.

No snow on the ground right now BeB. Quite balmy in fact.

It's very dry here right now so I am constantly thirsty. I think the extra water helps to flush the fat so it's probably a good thing. Most of us tend to back off on water intake when the temperatures drop. We have to be mindful of that ladies! Plump up those wrinkles!

Cynthia - getting into a structured program sounds like a wise choice for you. You might not have Costco near where you are but for those wintry days when outdoor exercise is impossible, I just purchased some exercise bands for $16.99 that come in a set with a DVD. They are adjustable according to your level of strength and have handles to hang on with. Those, coupled with a stepper DVD, can probably do you fine in the basement over the cold months. And all of it is low impact.

Margaret - It is inevitable with your easy going outlook on life, and your adventurous spirit, that you will meet someone on one of your jaunts. Are you currently working?

Hello Margaret. I grew up in Scotland but I have lived in Canada since I was 13. Don't miss the rain, that's for sure. Not so nice to fracture an elbow. Glad you have come through it all right. You have seen some pretty nice success with your weight loss. Hope it continues. How many stones are you looking to be? I am 14 looking to be 11 or 12, whatever feels good when I get there. My son is 6'4" and my daughter is 5'4".

Glamgram you look great and age is only a number so put it away in a locked drawer and smile. Welcome.

I managed to hold steady on weight while away on my business trip. Can't believe the french food didn't do me in, or the wine, but I am energized to be back home and ready to move forward. Renovations have made some progress since DD did a whole bunch of chores while I was away, and the elusive contractor returned yesterday to finish off some tasks. I have a bathroom door again! And new vanities!

Hope everyone is focused on their goal this week. Laura, pity party is over now that the candy is gone. It's back to salad and lean meats for you my girl!

Back from my business trip and did not gain weight so yay for me!

DD's 28th birthday today. I feel OLD. Last night we went to A Chorus Line. It was very well done. Such energy for all that dancing! I must dance more. It is a good way to lose weight.

Going out for cake this afternoon. No point in fretting about it. Birthdays only come once a year.

Have a good day all!

Bon, don't you just hate it when there's nothing in the fridge? Sometimes I like to just look around in there even although I end up chosing nothing. Apples are not my favorite fruit, too hard and cold. and kind of sweet and sticky. I eat them sometimes but not daily like my DD.

Beb, good for you for persevering to get that cc paid off. It takes some doing on a limited income.

I wonder what happened to Sinabear.

I am in Quebec and really enjoying my business trip so far. Hotel is great. Food and wine are fab. Trying to be good and managing not too badly.

Bon so sorry that you sis is looking so poorly. She appreciates your love and concern no doubt. Wishing the best for her. Good that you got some golf in. The season is over for me until Arizona in late Nov.

Chris glad you got back in one piece. It must have been a rewarding experience and you will cherish those memories for a long time.

I don't think I like candy corn but I  LOVE Mars bars at Halloween. I will be flying home on Halloween night so no candy for me anyway.

Hoping to get a bit of a jaunt around the city one day this week. It feels just like Europe with its windy streets and the old city full of quaint little shops.  More meetings tomorrow and then a group dinner tomorrow night at a fab Italian joint. Tonight we ate at a little bistro that specializes in rabbit and duck. Meal and service were outstanding. No possible way to log, so I have to close my eyes and just let it go....let it go... let it go.

Ohio - you absolutely crack me up! There is a bit of rebel in you! Throw food behind the kitchen stove? I absolutely burst out laughing when I read that. The guy who was delivering my room service meal right then looked at me really weird when I opened the door as I was wiping away the tears of laughter. It just struck me right on the funny bone. You have a very direct way of saying things.

I ordered the grilled chicken breast on a baguette mostly because I was pretty hungry, and secondarily because I love baguettes. I asked for it to come with salad but it came with fries. Didn't have the heart to send them back. They looked so lonely. Wink I don't have any Halloween candy. Mashed cauliflower? Hell to the no on that one. I got my hair done too. He darkened the blonde a bit and now I think it looks mousy. Hope it washes out over the next week.

Alice 5 hours a night is bad. I have such spotty sleeps too. I wake up at 3 and get back to sleep at 5. I have a cat that likes to lick and chew hair. It's so annoying, especially when you are sleeping. But she is so sweet, and so very dumb, I just can't be mad at her. She's like the handicapped child in the family.

Beb- good luck on the pap. Hope Kyle's living arrangements improve soon. Not going through the social worker for help?

Bon - My DD is mad for the new Wii Tiger Woods golf. Have you seen it? It uses the motion plus thing. That should cure your winter golf craving! I hope to try it soon. DD was at the golf dome today and one of the pros put her on the video and gave her some tips about her swing. For free! She hangs out there so much they seem to have realized she is pretty serious.

What the heck is up with Helene? It must be pretty serious. I am worried.

Ohio - I try to limit the portions while in hotels and I try to stay out of the snack shop which sometimes beckons to me in the evening. The salt in the food is the worst for me. Tonight I had a chicken breast and baked potato, a few bits of cauliflower and carrots. In the morning I will probably have a couple of poached eggs on wheat toast and some coffee, have yogurt at mid morning break, and we are having tomato soup and sandwich wraps for lunch with salads and relish tray. I will try to stay away from the dessert bars but undoubtedly will succumb to one. Such is life. There has to be a little joy. Once I get to my next hotel tomorrow night it will be at least 7 pm so I will probably order room service, some kind of fish or grilled chicken breast over salad if they have it. When I travel alone I never drink wine or anything but if I am out with clients I have a glass. I usually have Luna bars in my purse for emergencies. It's better than M&M's!

I am still undecided about the flu shot. I never get one.

Kathy - TurboJam? Sounds intense! Good for you!

Laura - my mom always said waste not, want not. I think it's a product of the war generation. Still, it made for some fat kids who had to clean their plates.

Robbie - How was the cabin? What's new at TKD? Ankle doing ok?

Bon- I would clean your basement. I sneeze around dust but it seems everybody does. Are you taking any trips with DH? Sounds like he needs a break.

I think the return of Helene should make for some fascinating reading. Where are you, Helene?

I think my mom always said, "Look after the pence and the pounds will look after themselves". Weird, because she was never one for being frugal. I guess that's where I learned it. I spend way too much.

Did another culling on the basement this weekend. I did one a few months ago, but sometimes you have to part with things in stages, so I have discovered. I am really enjoying the feeling of being lighter, as in having less belogings, if not lighter in weight. I am sitting level but that is probably because I have not been hard enough on myself. I need a good kick so I'll just call on Alice the enforcer to give me one. Since I am going out of town tomorrow for 3 days, and then going out of town the entire next week, I will need nerves of steel and a roll of duct tape. I suppose as long as I am not gaining I should be happy, But this entire process is taking way too long. I always think of Beth and how she just peeled off those 50 pounds like it was nothing. I am going to get on my treadmill and think of Beth who used to walk at 6 am to avoid the Texas gulf heat.

Chris - http://www.annecollins.com/weight_health/high -protein-diet-risks.htm

It didn't mention the testicles but I'm sure I read that somewhere!

oops - here it is - side effects of using anabolic steroids. Is he "on the juice" too?

There are also sex-specific side effects of anabolic steroids. Development of breast tissue in males, a condition called gynecomastia (which is usually caused by high levels of circulating estrogen), may arise because of increased conversion of testosterone to estrogen by the enzyme aromatase.[41] Reduced sexual function and temporary infertility can also occur in males.[42][43][44] Another male-specific side effect which can occur is testicular atrophy, caused by the suppression of natural testosterone levels, which inhibits production of sperm (most of the mass of the testes is developing sperm). This side effect is temporary: the size of the testicles usually returns to normal within a few weeks of discontinuing anabolic steroid use as normal production of sperm resumes.[45]

Beb, the fact that Nicole did not tell anyone she was pregnant, and then did not tell anyone (other than you) she lost the baby, is drama, whether you want to believe it or not. Just think about that for a long minute and let it sink in. She is controlling those events. The whole living environment sounds pretty destructive and unhealthy. Regardless of who Brian is, or Rob, or Nicole, and their own individual or collective problems, it is not where Kyle needs to be, or should be, in their midst. The fact that Brian is waiting with bated breath for Kyle's child tax credit payment on the 20th is very concerning. That money is supposed to be spent on Kyle isn't it?

Chris - I would say that diet meets the requirements for 'extreme'. Fortunately he is young and may not suffer any lasting consequences. Doesn't a super high protein diet shrivel the testicles and give you Sylvester Stallone face? Maybe remind him of that?

Beb, that is some drama! They ALL sound nuts to me. Even Nicole. She's a bit of a drama queen too, yeah? Kyle needs to get out of there. Look for a government sponsored home for youth and have his social worker get him into a stable environment pronto. Have 2 beers I would think!

Beb - the pumpkin pie was from M&M meat shops. It is TINY so you don't have left overs. Only has 4 slices in it. Each one is 280 cal, 15g fat, and 17g sugar, so now you know why you don't want any left around the house!! Turkey was fresh and turned out delicious. I always use a roasting bag. Keeps it way moist.

Chris - Queen of pies - that pie table in your gallery is hilarious!! Glad to see you were eating veggies. Hope you get a reward this week. Life is tough for SD2 right now, really tough on a young girl to uproot, but she is so lucky to have you to care for her. You can appy for sainthood any day now.

Bon - love your new avatar! Wish I was there with you. Did you see those men play golf this weekend on TV? They sure can make some amazing shots, but overall I think the women on the LPGA are more accurate. I think men just like playing in their sandboxes even in their 30's and 40's.

Kathy - the Japanese take on life is a welcome addition here. I love hearing about your different way of living and thinking over there. Hope you continue to tell us more!

I have so many little tasks to do today I almost don't know where to begin. My life is way too busy. I wish everything was done, and in place, and I could just sit back and enjoy. But that is not to be so I should quit moaning about it and get my butt in gear. I got up really early because after being awake since 3:30 I could not lay in bed any longer. I will poop out early this evening no doubt. I am off to the Farmer's Market to get berries and some goat cheese, as soon as it opens. Then tick off the rest of the items on the 'to do' list and hopefully get a break and relax after dinner. You know things are bad when you have to make a 'to do' list on a weekend!

We had a few snow flurries today. Man, it was cold, 0C (32F). Needed gloves when outside. Crazy weather we get in the west though. On Monday (Thanksgiving) it is supposed to be +15C (62F). If they haven't shut down all the golf courses by then I might get a round in. That would be great.

Welcome Moses. We like pet people here. I have a dog and 4 cats.

Mom is coming for Xmas so we are hurrying to get the last of the renos done. I'll call the contractor back now that I have a bit of breathing room and maybe I'll finally have a door that locks on the bathroom Undecided.

Sounds like WW is working for you Chris. Hope it works for Bon too. Nobody has worked harder and deserves it more. I am still down 10 and hoping to go lower each week. I have a few clothes that I still am squeezing into and would like for them to be looser. That's when we really feel a sense of accomplishment, isn't it?

Another one of my mom's ... Neither a borrower nor a lender be.

I guess those were the days before credit cards.

I hit 10 lbs lost today so I was very pleased. Don't think I'll make the 20 before I go to the corporate funtion on the 23rd but maybe I can get another 2 or 3 off by then.

I don't have a steamer and I doubt the wrinkles would fall out as they are Belgian Linen sheers from Restoration Hardware. You know how linen is for wrinkling. FrownHave to take the dog for shots today and then go to a g/f's birthday tea this afternoon so I may not get to them at all. Slept in until 9 this morning as I was up at 4:30 and couldn't get back to sleep until 6.

I am doing a couple of educational conference days that I have organized at a hotel Mon and Tues so there is tons of stuff to see to for those. DD blew a complete gasket this morning when she discovered I put a couple of her things in the wash with a load of mine last night. Glad she is gone to the gym. Hopefully she can work out her frustrations there. Personally I don't see any reason to be so emotionally attached to clothing, especially when I was able to wash her things for how many years as a kid, and never ruined anything. I suppose these exhibitions are indicative of some other underlying issue that they are pissed off about.

I hope they serve wine at the tea. Undecided

which means that it is useless to wish; that better results will be achieved through action.

My mom is the queen of "sayings".

Cold here today. Had to wear gloves to walk the dog. Trying to muster up the energy to hang some new drapes, but because it involves ironing them first, I am procrastinating and surfing the net.

Beb - I live in the city. I don't think I'd know how to live successfully in the country. I have seen bison up close, but not buffalo. And there are all kinds of cows and horses along the roads that I travel. Hope you find a nice embroidery project. That will be easier than trying to crochet or knit without help. Rug hooking is also a great activity. Did you ever do macrame back in the day? It's back in style for porches etc. I think you could sell plant hangers and the like and make some extra cash.

Carol - you sound down, girl. Hope you can blast yourself out of it soon. It's a spiral that you don't want to be on. When you feel better, maybe joining WW as Bon and Chris are doing would give you a kick start?

Ohio - I can't remember the last time I had a grilled hot dog. I miss them but I'd feel so guilty for indulging. They are full of nitrates and are absolutely BAD for you. It is possible, however, that I will crack, and have one before the snow flies. I have a new back porch grill waiting to be set up and I may just celebrate its grand opening with a jumbo wienie!

Kathy - so sorry that you have been surrounded by illness, death and tragedy. It was wonderful that your old friend made it down to see you. It sounds like her remaining days will be short and that is very sad. I don't know of any effective treatments or ways to handle dementia. It is so sharply progressive. Staying in touch is the best way of trying to keep them with us mentally for longer and although it is of little effect on the person, it does help us to come to terms with it, and know that we have at least tried to help. Read what you can, and learn. There may be something good out there on the net.

Sam - I am into soup these days too. Usually I make turkey soup from scratch but this week I made vegetable soup. I had a carton of organic vegetable stock and I bought some organic lentil soup (dry) mixture which I added along with a bunch of organic bean mixture, carrots, celery, small potatoes with skins on, and organic veggie alphabet noodles. It was fabulous. I think I'll make another batch on the weekend.

Chris - doing the taxes was a drag, but if it gets you to France, I say plug your nose and dive in.

3 things I like to do:

Golf, Read (anything that's not tied down), Walk with my doggie at the off leash park.

BeB - Hope you are not feeling too jealous about Rick's new lady friend. He never seemed to be on the same page as you so it's no great loss. You can remain friends with him if you like, and you never know, sometimes you meet new (hot) friends through existing friends. I have trouble remembering events that far back so congrats for being able to work on your autobiography. I seem to have erased so much, but I guess there's only room for so much in our noggins.

Alice - that is some rocky climb! Being from the Rockies, I see those hikes often but they look too dangerous for a person like me. You have years of experience. Great pic of you on Mt. Russell! I can just see you at a treadmill desk while the fatties munch their candy and whisper about you. No wonder you are looking forward to retirement, being chained to the desk all day. That's the beauty of working from home. When you get fed up, you can slip the leash on the dog and say, c'mon friend, we're outta here.

Laura - biking to yoga and back again sounds like a great way to burn up those M&M's. You are lucky to live in California, although I imagine it's pretty hot for riding right now. I'm not a rider, but a walker. Bikes give me a sore butt. Don't know why. There's plenty of padding back there.

Carol - where are you, girl? At boot camp? I am 9 lbs into the 20 lb challenge. Just sayin'.........
