I finally have a minute to check in and say hi.  Last week and this week have been super busy.  I finished up the work I was doing for my friend.  I brought it home and worked a bit here, and a bit there on it.  It's good to have it done.  Now I just need to get it back to her.

On the food front, I haven't been doing so well -- not terrible, but I won't be losing this week.   Tomorrow we leave for a long weekend with a group of camping friends.  We co-hosts, so lots of cooking and attending to details.  Then, I have two weeks will nothing scheduled WHOOPEE!!  I plan on joining the water aerobics next Monday, and I will be able to go 3 or 4 days each week.

Tonight, I need to get organized and packed for the weekend.  I'll have internet while gone, so hopefully, I'll be able to check in here and there.  My goal is to watch my portions and carbs this weekend.

Hope you two are doing well,

Mary

Hi Mom and Girl6 --  Man, I've had a too busy week.  Usually, I'm at home all the time with errand day here and there.  This week I had an appointment/meeting everyday.  I have more stuff this weekend too!   I have a friend who has some very serious health issues and she has fallen behind in tracking her insurance and tax paperwork, so I spent Thursday with her and barely scratched the surface.  I need to go back and help her some more this weekend and early next week.  It will be such a burden off her if we can get this huge task completed.

Mom, I'm glad you got a good rest.  Sleep does wonders.  Hope your back gets to feeling better soon.  Losing the pounds will help.  I have a bad knee and I keep it in my mind that losing weight would make my life so much easier with that knee.

I have to do a slide presentation at tomorrow's meeting, so I better get to cracking and get it finalized.  Have a good weekend, if I don't check in, I'll see you on Monday.

I use small paper cups (4 oz -  The kind that go in a dispenser in the bathroom) for portion control of things like nuts or pretzels.  I also use custard cups for portion control for rice, soups, coleslaw, etc.

Hi Momof2 -- got your message -- thanks!  Hey, we're practically in the same place.  Yesterday was weight in for the "Lose 10 by May 24" and I weighed 193.5.  Today, I weigh 3 lbs more than that, and I didn't even eat much yesterday.  I figure it will go in the next couple of days.

I didn't get to water aerobics.  This week I had stuff scheduled every morning.  Next week I'll be out of town, so I've put it on my calendar for the week after next.  I AM GOING TO DO IT!!

Girl 6, Welcome -- I'm a newbie myself, but I'm already feeling comfortable here, and it's wealth of help and knowledge.  When I had my baby (1 and only) 25 year's ago, I lost 60 pounds with delivery and in the 6 weeks afterwards.  Slow it cly rept back.  Congratulations on you decision to take action, you are giving yourself a great present.

Later,

Mary

Thanks for the motivation everyone!!

Week one is over and I lost 1.5 lbs.  Today's weigh-in 193.5!!   I'm even more motivated to eat healthy this coming week.

I did errands this morning and went by our local farmer's market and stocked up on veggies and fruit.  They had so much good stuff, I could have bought more than my kitchen can hold!!  Lunch today was zuchinni and mushrooms steamed with a bit of Mrs. Dash spicy seasoning and a bit of butter,  a banana and an apple.  It was really delicious.  I love SPRING!!

Hi Momof2 --  I'm new to the board so I haven't had a chance to check all the topics.  I'm in the 190s and have been there toooo long, bouncing around like a ping pong ball.  I've joined the lose 10 by May 24th group, so I sure hope to be in the 180s by then.

I have a very bad habit of sabatoging myself.  Like tonight, I ate an extra helping of stuffing, and had a peanut butter Easter candy egg on top of that!  I didn't need them -- I even told myself not to, but went ahead anyway.   I'm not going to beat myself up, but tomorrow and Tuesday I am going to have a meal replacement (protein drink) for one meal each day to rescue the week.

I've also looked into some water aerobics which is in a pool close to my house.  I need to get there by 8:30 tomorrow to buy my tickets and be in the pool by 9am.    TOMORROW WILL BE A BETTER DAY!!

1lbs --  First off, realize that your Mom wants to give you only the best, and she thinks she's doing just that.  She wants to  make your stay special for you, and she feels that having these "wonderful" foods around will help do that.   What she really wants is your love and your friendship.   So, maybe you can find a way to give her time by making up a menu and going shopping with her and cooking with her.

If you tell her your plan for the next few days is to eat more healthy and have a menu plan in mind, it will be hard for her not to go along.  If she says something that hurts your feelings, have some upbeat responses ready.  She probably doesn't realize the impact of her words, or she's thinking something entirely different from how it sounds to you.

Good luck to you -- remember you are in control -- you just need to let other's know where you're sailing to.

Mary --  {{{{{{Hugs}}}}}} from another Mary!   What Betsy said is absolutely correct.

Keep focusing on the good about yourself and what's gone right.  Train yourself to think happy thoughts.  It's not always easy, but you CAN train yourself to do it.  It will become a powerful tool.  Make a "good stuff" list each day.  When you think a positive thought, take a minute of two to really enjoy the  joy of that thought.  Turn it over in your mind, relive the feelings associated with it.   Since I've really started to work on this, my whole attitude has changed and I feel so much better about myself and my life.   My family and friends have noticed the difference.  Another big plus is  I find that I'm having an easier time staying motivated to achieve my goals.

Go into each room and find 5 things to get rid of!  Five things to throw away, give away or recycle.  Stuff that is obviously garbage (empty cola cans, etc.) don't count.  Whatever you decide to get rid of has to be out of the house tonight -- in the garbage, in a bag taken to the car for recycle, etc.

Think of it as a game -- you won't be bored.  Just do every room, 15 minutes per room tops!

I'm joining!  10 pounds gone would make me feel so good, it's going to be a present to myself!  I've been bouncing around the 190's for a couple of years now, so this will take me out of the 190s into the 180s.

F  5'4"   Starting at 195

I have a bad knee which makes most exercise difficult, but I've decided to join a city sponsored water aerobics class and go 4 times a week.  I tried on my swimsuit last night, and although it's not glamorous (LOL), it will do until I need a new one.  I'm going to buy some terry cloth and make myself a coverup so when the session is over, I can duck and cover!

I don't want this to be a "set it and forget it" goal, so to help me keep my goal in mind, I wrote it on my bedroom mirror this morning.  I can't tell you how many weight goals I've set and then "forgotten" that I had set a goal.

Good luck everyone!

BQueen --  thanks so much for your motivational post!!  I absolutely agree that doing something is much better than doing nothing!  I'm new to this site and have been browsing various threads.  Your post is the one that hit the spot with me.  A week ago I was 201 (my all time high was somewhere around 230).  I've been bouncing in the 190's for a couple of years now and really want to move on down the scale -- bouncing over 200 again woke me up and I realize that it won't get done if I don't take action.   Baby steps every day, and leap or two when possible, will get me there.

Jon -- congrats on your pre-planning for success, without it the road is much steeper!

Happy Easter to all!

Could you find a tailor/dressmaker that could take a few of your favorite things in??  Or if you're handy with a sewing machine, maybe you could take in the side seams or put in a dart or two in the waistbands to make them smaller.

If you did this with a few things and also bought a few new things maybe it would tide you over until you got to you goal.

Congratulations!!  I'm just starting my journey and hope to celebrate soon.  I've heard that every 10 pounds is a lower size, so you will most definitely be looking at smaller sizes -- and more choices!!  Have fun shopping.
