Young Calorie Counters Buddy, please! Apr 14 2009

I'll be your buddy!  I started running seriously in January (have on and off for the last several years, but never this seriously). My plan was to do the Vancouver Sun Run, 10k, that happened yesterday.  I wasn't able to do the run due to work, but I am fit enough!  I want to stay fit and motivated, a buddy would be awesome.  I do run more than 3 days a week though, it is very addicting!  Your goal sounds very achievable, and you'll get a tan training through the summer!

EDIT-I just looked again and realized this was posted in the young calorie counter section, I guess I don't count lol!  I am 24.

The Lounge But Horseback Riding Is So Easy. Apr 14 2009

Anyone who thinks riding is easy should watch Jockeys when they come off the horses after a race-those extremely fit athletes are puffing harder than any hockey/basketball/football/soccer players/runners I have ever seen.  I gallop race horses and that is the best, hands down, total body workout ever, weightlifting for every major muscle group and cardio all at once!  I also 3 day event, cross country jumping takes an incredible amount of strenth, balance, flexibility and skill.  After 5 minutes around the course I am breathing far harder than after my 45min/5 mile run, and what an adrenaline rush!!!!   I am also a coach, anyone who doesn't think riding is a sport, send them my way, give me a pony and half an hour and they won't walk the next day they will be so sore!

Maintaining Help-How many calories do I need? Mar 19 2009

Thanks both of you for the great info, that really helps!  Liz, I had no idea how many calories I was actually burning working with the horses, very interesting.  Gi-jane, I will try bumping my cals up a bit, 3000 seems like so much (the only people talking anywhere close to that number here are guys!) but I will give it a try.  I have been wondering about a possible iron deficiency, I will make a trip to the doctors if things don't improve.

I love the small cans of flavoured tuna, especially the tomato and onion, it is super flavourful and only 80 cals a tin.  It is high in Protein as well.  Some flavours/brands are much higher in cals though, up to 140.  I usually have it with whole wheat or multigrain melba toast, which comes prepackaged in packets of 10 pieces, 140-150 cals for 10.  The melba toast is crisp enough to scoop right out of the tin.  I also love nuts(again, good protein) but have trouble eating too many.  I usually organize my favorites(walnuts, almonds and pecans) into baggies of 200 cals each.  I also eat alot of peanut butter with either melba toast or rice cakes, although rice cakes don't leave you very full and peanut butter is also easy to eat too much.  I love apples and oranges (does spoil eventually) but so healthy and they keep quite a while.  I am sure things like corn are fine to eat out of a can.  You could eat so much more healthily if you could get a mini fridge and a microwave...I love to keep already cut up vegies and dip, and i love oatmeal and cream of wheat done quickly in the microwave.

I must have really big hips...

I am 5'9, I started out at 192 and am now about 156, I could just fit into my 12/32's at 192lbs, and I still wear the same pants now, they are loose, but I am not sure I will ever get into a 10, my hips just wouldn't fit.  I will deffinately never get into an 8!

My favorite meal when I am feeling really hungry is beansprouts, mushrooms, onion, red/yellow/orange peppers and egg all fried up together.  It is low cal, and fried onion is so good, it almost tastes like onion rings if you pretemd a little bit!  I usually break down and have some katchup with it, but I am going to try it with Salsa, I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner!

Weight Loss That last 10 pounds! Oct 02 2008

A Last 10 Pounds Group sounds like a great idea.  I have never gone on a diet before this one.  I didn't know what my end goal was when I started, only that I needed to loose weight after trying the pill.  Now I really don't know how to "come off" dieting.  I know I have made alot of healthier lifestyle changes, but I am unsure how to now balance the weight I want to stay at.

It is so motivating to read everyone's stories and advice.

Start weight 192 jan08

Current Weight 165

Goal (I am thinking now) 155

Female Age 23 Height 5'9

To make things a little harder, I just went through a break up last week, I stayed on my diet until yesterday, but then the chocolate came out lol...I am feeling like I need to get back on the bandwagon, reading here helps!  Knowing that I probably blew a week is frustrating, but I am more worried about how metabloism reacts to those "accidents"

Weight Loss did your birth control pill make you fat? Mar 19 2008

Yes, I was on the pill for 6 weeks and gained about 20 pounds without eating much more than usual.  I stopped taking it when I realized how much weight I had gained.  I wish I had known about that nice little side effect first, now I am having to count calories for the first time in my life.  On the upside, why stop at 20, I am going to go for loosing that little bit I have always wanted to.  Haven't solved the birth control problem yet, I am scared to try the shot or anything else and gain more weight.
