First of all, Amber losing 65 pounds already is amazing and inspiring!  How did you stay motivated, how long did it take, what did you do?

I'm a bit older (30) but same height and weight.  125 would be amazing (it's my driver's license weight!)!  I haven't been working too hard at it lately...  I don't know what the deal is, I can't kick my butt in gear.

Maybe we can all motivate each other!

I am going to do 50 miles and option 2 or 3.  I know I can hold them, not sure if I can move from one to the other with the push up too. :)  Thanks for the challenge, I'm really hoping this will give me some umph to get up in the morning and run/walk!

Where are we logging our miles walked?  Here?

I have not checked in for so long...  honestly cuz I've been sooooo bad.  Last week I ate out for lunch everyday (yes I said all 5 days!).  That is terrible for my body and my budget!  Anyway, so far this week has been going well, and my weigh in this morning was 134.  I'm with you guys too, I only wish my sw was 126.  I am trying harder this week than I have in many weeks, hopefully, I can keep doing well for a while.  Have a great day all!

Good job makinitcount!  Good luck avoiding the beer, I know what you mean, it's not necessarily the alcohol, but the food I eat with it, that is so bad.

The scale moved!

mom22boyz - 136/135/130 -1

As for the goals I set for the week:

1. I did not drink lots of water but... I did drink considerably more than I had been (which was none) - so I am counting that as positive and keeping it on my goals list

2. I did eat more fiber, and will continue to

3. I have already eaten out twice this week, so I know (since I still have the weekend to go through) - this one I have failed - keeping it on the goals list for next week though.

4. I did stay away from the Halloween candy!  I only had one piece a day.  The Doritos were another story, had some almost every night, but I did try to cut back on them and only ate a few last night.

Have a great weekend all!

Well, I am even from last week, but I am counting that as a positive since I didn't gain.  I really need to quit eating Dorritos!  I love them with salsa!

I ate regular food with my cleanse.  It went well, I guess, but I was hoping to lose a few more pounds.

2nluv - you are doing great!  keep up the great work!  and I completely agree, ever pound counts!  Let us know if you try the Detox Body Wrap, and how it goes.  Also, I have never found anything except time that works on stretch marks.  Even time will only lighten them, without plastic surgery, I'm afraid to say I think they are here to stay.

Have a great week everyone!  Here are my goals for the week (I think I do better when I actually say them out loud so to speak)

1. drink lots of water

2. eat more fiber

3. don't eat out more than twice

4. stay away from the Doritos and Halloween candy

I know how you feel, really! I am always putting some s*#t in my mouth lately but the exercising has been great.

Ive never done a cleanse...what are you doing on yours? How have you been feeling? What exactly are you suppose to benefit from it?

good luck...let us know!

Sam

Well, I think the benefit is supposed to be cleansing the toxins from your body, with the side effect (added benefit) of losing a few pounds.  The one I am doing is an ounce of liquid that you mix with 32 ounces of water and drink throughout the day.  I felt really good the first two days, and probably could have lost more than a few pounds had I not been as you said to eloquently 'always putting some s*#t in my mouth'.  I was supposed to be finished with it yesterday, but did not drink it Sat or Sun, so I have two days left.  I did see the scale budge a few pounds, and am trying to do really well this week hoping to see a few more pounds fly off.  Overall, I'd say I felt it was a good thing, and probably will do it again in the future.

What was the verdict on a new start for November?

Here's to working for a loss to record in this Friday's weigh-in!

I think a "new" start for November sounds great!

mom22boyz - 137/137/130

I have been doing very good with the exercise, if only I could get myself to eat well too.  For instance, right now I am so hungry, if there were donuts or biscuits around, I would pig out.  I had a banana, and I think I'm gonna have some hot tea and maybe some oatmeal.

I have been doing a 7 day cleanse this week.  Mainly because I was curious about them for a while.  Have any of you done one?  How did you feel during and after and have you done it more than once?

Have a great day everyone!

mom22boyz - 135/136/130

Well, I went to the gym in the morning last week, and have been so far this week (6 out of 8 days).  So that's a good change, I also feel like I've been eating less, but starting to get that "it's not working!" feeling cuz I haven't lost 20 pounds yet (you know what I mean right?).

The fiber question:  I try to eat more fiber with veggies and fruits, but I also like the fiber one brand (pop tarts and granola bars) - I really think that adding fiber to my diet has helped a lot in the past.  I have also tried and liked Kellogg's All-Bran fiber drink mix, pink lemonade.  It's a powdered mix you add to water, it actually tastes like pink lemonade, and it has 10g of fiber.  I read about a fiber supplement that you add to food, but I can't remember the name, I have it written down at home and am thinking of trying it too.  Where does everyone else get fiber?  Do you think it has helped you change your diet?

What's your weakness?  How do you avoid it, or do you allow yourself small amounts?  I am having trouble figuring out which will work for me.  Neither has so far.

Have a great day all!

I went to a local grocery store to buy a quick lunch.  Ended up buying some fresh fruit and a Lean Cuisine.  The man at the checkout actually said this to me:  "Good choice.  Better than what you could have gotten at the other end of the store" (and he gestured toward the bakery).

I'm wondering if I'm being paranoid or was he making a remark about my weight?  (I'm 50+ lbs overweight).   Would he have said this to a thin person? (I doubt it!)

Have you ever experienced this type of behavior from clerks about what you buy?  What would you have said in response?

making conversation?  yes... probably even flirting

I purchased The Firm workout before I got pregnant with my first son (he's 4 1/2), and only used it a couple of times.  It is a great workout!  I have been thinking of using it again, if I can motivate myself to get up early enough in the morning.  Maybe I should start tomorrow.  Did you really lose 10 doing it the first time?

I know exactly what you mean makinitcount44!  (Although I've never had anyone tell me I looked too skinny - that must feel good!)  I also lack the self control I need to succeed at this.  Ugh!  I always have this up and down stuff.  I'll do really well for a couple of weeks and start to see some progress, and then I go crazy and have a really really bad week (like last week which is why I didn't want to even check my weight Friday).  Well I checked this morning, and yuck!

I'm also at a weight that seems easy to maintain ( the 134-136 range).  I had the same thing about a year ago except the range was a few pounds higher (137-139) so I guess that's good, but come on a whole year to really lose 3 pounds!  I know I could look and feel better if I could only stick to it!

So here are my stats today.

mom22boyz - 135/136/125...(+4 pounds from last weigh in!)...(overall +1)

I will again be trying this week to up my fiber/water intake and exercise!

Thanks for listening to me gripe!

Pregnancy & Parenting just a ques about potty training May 07 2008

I have two boys, and I think it really depends on the child.  I also know that most children to go through a stage when they are interested in the potty (usually around 18-24 months) and then they don't want anything to do with it.  My first son did this.  I was so excited when he was about 20 months and he wanted to sit on the potty all the time.  I thought he would be trained quickly, but he never went pee or poop, he just sat there.  And then suddenly, he wouldn't even sit on it without crying.  Like you, I couldn't make him sit there crying.  Finally, about two months before he turned three (we had been trying on and off the whole year, using bribery with toys and candy too), I decided to just make the switch to underwear all the time (day and night).  He was completely done, no accidents in about 2 weeks.  I really think he just wasn't ready before then.  My second son, on the other hand is now 2 1/2, and he has been wearing underwear since before he turned 2.  I know most people say that is because he could see his brother doing it, which is partly the cause, but he is a much more laid back child.  I didn't do anything with him.  He just stopped going in his diaper.  So I said, well this is stupid to be putting diapers on you when clearly you don't need them.  I kept thinking he was too young, but I guess not.

Sorry this is so long, I guess my point is each child is different.  She'll let you know when she's really ready, and (in my experience), you can't make her get there any faster.  You can encourage and keep the potty available to her though.

Original Post by simply2crazy:

Some researchers did a paper where they came to the conclusion that, on average, 1 pound of fat releases about 31 calories per day. This means that the rate at which you can lose weight depends on how many pounds of body fat you're carrying. So a heavy person with a lot of body fat can loose weight at a greater rate than a person who is carrying less fat.

When I found this out, it was like a eureka! moment. Because it also explains why my rate of weight loss has gone down as I get closer to my goals despite maintaining the same diet effort as I had when I had started.

Some people say 31 calories; others say 2. Some people say it's 50 for muscle; others say 6. In fact, of late more and more researchers are finding that we have overestimated the calorie-burning potential of both fat and muscle. The only thing they all agree on is that muscle burns more calories than fat. Replace fat with muscle and you can continue to lose weight steadily.

Granted, if one is 250 lbs. and goes down to 150, there's going to be a difference in metabolism, muscle gained or no. But I lose weight quickly and steadily and am currently just 5' 3 1/2" and 113. Going from 129 to 113 I never hit a plateau, and I eat more than most people my height and weight who are dieting. I eat more than some of my male friends who are over 6' tall. That is all because of muscle gained and maintained over almost two decades. And of course it is also due to an exercise routine, which, like muscle, is essential as well for healthy living.

So, what is your exercise routine?  I recently went back to work after being a stay at home mom for almost 4 years, and have been finding it very hard to find time to exercise at all.  It's like do I give up sleep, or time with my family, cuz it'll have to be something????????

I had a session with my trainer last night.  Wow, what a workout!  I am pretty sore today, but feeling good that I pushed myself.

It's been about 2 or 3 weeks, and I did see some results.  My body fat % went down by 2%.  And I lost inches all over.

But...  I feel yucky that I only lost .2 pounds, ugh!  I know I shouldn't since I did lose inches, but man that stinks!Frown

Trying to be good, but wanting to cheat cuz of that .2 pound!!! Jeez, this is hard.

Well, I'm actually not sure what my target should to be.  CC says 1200, another website says 1300 and my trainer says 1800.  I have been trying for 1200 (though I think I've been in the 1500 range mostly).  1800 just seems too high to me.  I want this to happen overnight, ya know, not .8 pounds a week as suggested by cc.

I did have one minor accomplishment yesterday.  One of the girls I had lunch with yesterday ate a snicker's mmmmmmmmmm it looked sooooooooo yummy!  I really really wanted a candy bar around 2:30, but instead I had my fiber cereal for a snack.  Surprisely satisfying and filling.  I was pretty happy with me for resisting the chocolate desire.  I just hope I can have more control like that in the evenings too.

I am really thinking about the alli too.  Thanks for the info.

Just curious, do you run on a treadmill or outdoors?  On a treadmill how fast are you running?  I really want to be a runner, but I think I am running too slow or something.  I always lose focus and then get bored before I get too tired.  Hmmm.

Thanks makinitcount44!  I may try alli - is it expensive?  I guess they have a website?  I'll try to look it up.  I love the chicken breast with cheese and salsa idea (I LOVE salsa!).  I have never tried that, it sounds yummy!  I know what you mean about not depriving yourself too.  I have to remind myself that it's not as if I'll never eat chocolate again.  That helps to keep my portion small, and not to have it every day.

Dinner is my hardest meal, well, the evenings altogether are hard.  My DH is a big snacker at night, and I have a hard time not joining him.  Last night I was not good.  Oh well, today is a new day... again.

Have a great day all!

You are doing great!  Even with your 'weekend treats'.  I wish I could say the same.  My fitness trainer is also a nutritionist, and is helping me with a healthier diet as well as excercise.  I got the diet plan from her last week, but was not able to go shopping until Sunday, so today is the first day of the new me.  But... the end of last week was me trying to eat everything I feel like I'm getting deprived of now, ugh!  So my scale was up this morning to 135, disgusting!  I'm so mad at myself for pigging out.  Anyway, today is a new day (right chicken little?).

makinitcount44 - What does alli do to help you lose weight?  What does your typical menu for a day consist of?  Thanks!

Have a great day all!

Thanks for the responses, it took me a while to check... (2 sick boys)

idgystripes - I love what you said about the first bite is always the best, that is so true, I'll have to remember that.  I think that could actually help too!  And I would love to share whatever my trainer says, my first session is tomorrow, I'll let you all know what I hear.  However, I'm sorry to disappoint, but the trainer is a woman, not a hot guy.  You're right again with consistency is the key.  Inconsistency happens to be my biggest fault - across the board, not just with food.

makinitcount44 - Thanks for welcoming me!  You are really close!  I think those last few pounds are the hardest, but you can do it!

I am trying to focus on eating less, if not better foods.  And after my training session tomorrow, I should be ready to work out like crazy, right?!?

Hi all!  I'm pretty new to this...

I'm 5' 3" (unless you ask my husband, who says I like to stretch it a littleLaughing), and this morning my scale said 133.  My absolute ideal weight would be 120, I would be very happy with 125 though too!  I have dieted many many times in my life, but for some reason (maybe all the motivation from CC) this time seems different.  I had a difficult day with food though.  We had a baby shower at work today, with lots and lots of yummy food.  I did eat more than normal at lunch, but did not graze all day as I would have before, so I feel okay.

I also have a personal trainer that I will start sessions with next week.  I'm pretty excited about that.

Anyway, I would love to hit my goal by August when I will be the dreaded 3-0, ugh!

Thanks for all the support so far.  Good luck to all, we can do it.
