colposcopy takes quite a bit longer than a pap, and it's only when they scrape the cells or whatever that it hurts. but it is a bit uncomfortable. if you've been having your pap once a year regularly, you don't really have anything to worry about. if these cells just now popped up, chances are they'll go away by themselves. they still have to go through, like, four more stages of change before it becomes cancer, and my doctor said that takes about seven years! if you keep getting abnormal paps, you can get the cells frozen off, and that takes care of it without you having to go get a pap every three months (like i do right now lol).

you could be iron-deficient from your ed. when people are iron-deficient, doctors put them on EXTREMELY high intakes of iron supplements for a while until their levels are restored. taking a multi isn't going to cut it.

Foods Does it matter WHERE your sugar came from? Sep 14 2008

there is nothing wrong with fruit. some consider it nature's perfect food. yes, sugar can cause a spike in blood sugar, but the fiber in fruit tempers that. fruit is digested really quickly if there's nothing else in your stomach, so that would be perhaps why you eat a lot of it (i do, too). however, weight gain or loss comes down to calories total, not just sugar calories. just make sure you're getting the right amount of calories with a variety of healthful food!

i'm staying away from meat substitutes lately, but of all the fake meats out there, faux dogs are my favorite. i liked to grill them, boil them, microwave them, slice them up in beans or mac&cheeze, make them into pigs-in-a-blanket... the possibilities were endless. i even ate them plain (yes, no toppings, no bun, no nothing).

So basically Dave, the best thing that President Kennedy did was get assassinated? Sure sounds like that to me.

funny how dying suddenly makes the deceased a better person (couldn't resist).

i'm liberal (poor, average, and liberal) because i don't mind paying to live in a country with freedoms such as ours as taxes seem to be a main goat-getter for conservatives. i also don't mind allowing others to live their lives as they see fit so long as it doesn't end or damage other lives. i'm not obama's biggest fan, but i'd vote for anyone to get the republicans out of office at this point.

la dolce vegan has a great tofu roast recipe that might be exactly what you're looking for. you can also google how to make your own tofurky.

my family bought me the tofurky last thanksgiving, and i must say it was not worth it.

the reason i enjoy csi: miami is BECAUSE of the comedic value. what ridiculous thing will "h" say next? i think people who don't like it should try viewing an episode as a sitcom. then try going about everyday life while saying and/or thinking "h" thoughts. of course you'll laugh, and then you might become a convert! :)

no, but i eat literally anything that isn't animal-based, so if people are trying to think of something to feed me and can't, then shame on them! :)

EDIT: totally said the wrong thing lol.

i detest all insects and kill an intruding one at a moment's notice. does that make me a bad vegan? possibly. but i do agree with the idea that the bees make honey for themselves, not for human consumption. plus it's far too sweet for me. so i don't eat it, but not because i don't hate bugs. :)

I can't believe nobody has said this....

getting drunk can be fun.

not sure why it won't let me out of the quote...

but heck yes it can. this point aside, is your bf attempting to control you in other ways? i dated a guy in college who was just like this - drinking is bad and people who drink are idiots and "below me" - UNTIL he had his first drink. but before that he was awful about it. he once WATCHED me pass out in a puddle of my own alcohol-induced vomit (ok, i was in college, we've all done things we regret, and this was a one-time thing - just defending myself before people accuse me of being an alcoholic). anyway, this guy was controlling in lots of ways, so if this is another manifestation of your bf attempting to run your life and you've talked about it before, you should probably consider ending it.

1. Favorite non-dairy milk? homemade almond. soy vanilla isn't bad either, but i don't really have a brand preference.

2. What are the top 3 dishes/recipes you are planning to cook?

- seitan piccatta

- jerk tofu with messy rice

- potato-broccoli blintzes

3. Topping of choice for popcorn? olive oil and nutritional yeast.

4. Most disastrous recipe/meal failure? eggplant steaks. poor choice, poor preparation, and all-around gross. this is the only dish i've ever made and then thrown out.

5. Favorite pickled item? napa cabbage.

6. How do you organize your recipes? i keep some in a word document on my computer, but i have about 478657482954 cookbooks stacked crookedly in a cabinet.

7. Compost, trash, or garbage disposal? ditto the OP. plus i don't have a yard.

8. If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 foods...what would they be (don't worry about how you'll cook them)? tofu, mango, lentils.

9. Fondest food memory from your childhood? post-vegetarian but pre-vegan, grandpa always made me macaroni and cheese when everyone else was eating fried chicken. oh, and one time when i was very very little, my grandma was making a cherry pie and i wanted to help, so she had me stir a bowl of water full of ice cubes while she finished the pie. i helped SO much.

10. Favorite vegan ice cream? so delicious, especially their newer purely decadent line. p.s. who names these things? they're so dorky!

11. Most loved kitchen appliance? food processor, and i recently rediscovered my bullet blender. can't turn off the bold for some reason here.

12. Spice/herb you would die without? crushed coriander seeds. and frank's red hot, if that counts.

13. Cookbook you have owned for the longest time? cook's vegetarian cookbook. full of complicated and mediocre recipes that i rarely had the time or inclination to make.

14. Favorite flavor of jam/jelly? red plum.

15. Favorite vegan recipe to serve to an omni friend? i make all kinds of "cheesecake" that nobody notices is vegan.

16. Seitan, tofu, or tempeh? i can eliminate tempeh from the running, as its texture is not my favorite. but i'm afraid i can't choose between the other two. each has its own magical properties.

17. Favorite meal to cook (or time of day to cook)? dinner.

18. What is sitting on top of your refrigerator? a roll of paper towels and some tupperware.

19. Name 3 items in your freezer without looking. frozen peas, frozen mango, ice cube trays.

20. What's on your grocery list? i don't go shopping until the end of the week. but so far it's made it up to walnuts, sesame seeds, raisins, and cantaloupe.

21. Favorite grocery store? grocery outlet (sf bay area only, i think).

22. Name a recipe you'd love to veganize, but haven't yet. my mom used to make a soup with velveeta, potatoes, and celery. i can't figure out the velveeta part.

23. Food blog you read the most (besides Isa's because I know you check it everyday). Or maybe the top 3? eat air.

24. Favorite vegan candy/chocolate? not as much into these things by themselves. ask me about my chocolate peppermint pie, though, and then we're talking.

25. Most extravagant food item purchased lately? a jicama.

i take a plastic bento box with my lunch in it to work, and one day i thought it would be a good idea to mash up a banana and stick it in one of the containers. then i put the box in my cloth purse. on the train, somebody told me my purse was dripping. i looked down to see that i had made a sizable puddle of what turned out to be banana juice on the floor and all over my lap. try acting like THAT didn't happen.

jesus, people, this is 2008. ginger, i wouldn't worry about it at all. but if you work in a male-dominated, high-powered, corporate-to-the-max office and YOU feel dressed inappropriately, then there might be a problem. no need to dress like a man or a 50-year-old lady for work... unless, of course, you ARE one. it's ok to be fashion-forward in the office now, and you can be stylish and still be conservative (as kaff has demonstrated). as long as you feel comfortable and no one else cares what you're wearing, i feel that what truly matters is your performance.

i agree with rebecca. also, you might not really be in love but just be really... attached. i was that way with a guy for almost 6 years and just couldn't end it because of all the history and stuff we'd been through. if i were you, i'd look elsewhere, find real happiness, and then see how you feel. chances are you might feel differently.

oh, honey,

i had cystic acne for YEARS. i still have scars on my face 3 years after it stopped being a huge problem. i still get zits and the occasional cyst, but using 2.5% benzoyl peroxide really helped me. go to acne.org and follow that regimen. it sounds too good to be true, but it did work for me.

i blame the onset of my acne on proactiv, by the way. my dad is obsessed with acne and made me start using that when i was like 10, a bit young to even get acne but i got it anyway after starting to use it.

it's not very nice of me, but i get really irritated when social-ish plans hinge on my decision. i get the "you pick because you're the one who can't eat anything" spiel ALL THE TIME, and it drives me crazy because no matter where i go, i can find SOMETHING vegetarian. i feel that if i force others (carnies) to go somewhere of my choosing (i.e. a mostly-vegetarian place or something like that) and they don't like it, it'll be all my fault.

maybe this person is just like me. we know you're trying to be nice, so it's not like we're ungrateful. it just starts to feel like we're a burden. but i wouldn't ask him to pick again.

Weight Loss Log what you eat or Eat for your log? :) Jul 23 2008

i plan ahead of time what i shall eat the next day. i enter it all in the day before. i find that having a plan helps me stay on track, whereas on days i don't log, i often end up making poor choice after poor choice and going waaaay over my calories. so i decide what to eat, enter it, and eat for my log.
