| Weight Loss | I need to lose max weight in a month! | Nov 19 2009 12:00 (UTC) |

When I started on here, I had very similar stats to you (5'7" and 183 and 2x week exercise) and I found that after a couple of weeks, aside from starting to feel lethargic, my weight loss stalled. It was only when I bumped up my calories to 1500 that I started to lose again and a little over a year later I am safely down to 156 (I know that upping calories goes against everything you probably believe in...I found it ridiculously hard...I mean, how can you eat that much and lose weight?!) Try entering your stats in here - I found this website gave more accurate figures for me, maybe you will too: Good Luck! |

| Health & Support | Stress is starting to trigger my unhealthy behaviour - Help! | May 28 2009 17:25 (UTC) |

I really do need to work on stress techniques and exercise might well be the answer. The thought that moderation is more difficult to do has really struck a chord with me and is of course completely true!! Thanks for your advice...it's definitely given me something more constructive to think about! |

I drink tap water - but out of a bottle! I find it's much easier to keep note of how much I'm drinking that way and I can pop it back in the fridge to keep it nice & cool :) |

| Weight Loss | Late Night Eating, Within Your Calories. Good? or Bad? | Apr 29 2009 10:26 (UTC) |

I think some people have difficulty sleeping if they eat too close to bed time. I'm definitely not one of those people and like you, sometimes find it easier to get all my calories in if I space them out and end up eating later at night. It's never had any negative impact to my weight loss or maintenance so I'm going to keep doing it |

| Weight Loss | Eating before 7 PM | Apr 29 2009 10:23 (UTC) |

As long as you keep within your calorie limits, it should make no difference at all. I regularly eat after 7pm and it's made no difference to my weight loss or maintenance. If you're happy to eat at 9.40, then eat at 9.40 and enjoy it |

My friend and I are the same height, and to look at you would say we are similar body shapes, but she weighs a good stone less than I do. We swap clothes all the time (well - i say swap...she has a much better wardrobe so I do better out of it!! ;o) ) and quite often end up buying the same pairs of jeans etc... I guess what I'm trying to say is weight is just a number, and a particular weight on one person may look totally different on another regardless of how similar they look. As long as you are happy and healthy where you are now, that's all that matters :) |

I used to download movies and did feel a little guilty. I "justified" the guilt by buying the DVDs of the movies I liked and would watch again rather than keeping the copies I had downloaded. If I saw a small amount of cash in the street (£10 / $20) and it didn't obviously belong to someone, it would definitely go in my pocket, but if I saw someone drop it, or it was a wallet or purse, I would return it. If it was a larger amount of cash I would hand it into the police station, so that the owner could claim it ( and if it remains unclaimed after a period of time, it's then sent to me as the finder and I would have a clean conscience!!)

I'm 30, 5'7 and 154lbs (down from 190). Previous experience has taught me that anything under about 145 and I start to look sickly...or maybe it's just that I like my curves (a bit of boobs and booty never hurt anyone!!) |

I use options hot chocolate (usually 18g), but I make it with hot milk. It's so wonderfully creamy that I don't mind the 200 cal price tag!!

Wow - It's good to hear I'm not the only one! It's a standing joke amongst my friends! I have an almost pavlovian response to signs for a toilet too...when I'm out and about and I see a sign...I have to go!! |

I sometimes eat 2 cookies as well for a similar amount of calories, with a nice hot chocolate too! I think it's important to follow an eating plan, that's not only healthy for you, but is also something where you can enjoy the occasional treat. So throw that guilt out the window and enjoy your cookies in moderation! |

Moose/Elk (depending on where you're from!!) meat is delicious and only 103 cals per 100g (and 22g protein) |

My friend has twin 33-month old boys, one of whom was ready to get rid of the nappies a good few months ago and let his mother know this. He was pretty much clean within the week and has been aside from the odd accident since. The other is still not quite ready, so I guess it depends on your child. I know my friend used a Star Chart as an encouragement tool...every # 2 on the potty got a star, and every 5 stars meant some form of treat. |

| The Lounge | Do you have a "hippie" name? | Feb 28 2009 09:13 (UTC) |

I used to have a friend at school called Harmony Peace. I thought it was a lovely name. I think it depends on exactly how "hippy" the name is though. I also think it's probably easier in the playground for a girl to have an unusual name than it is for a boy. |

| Weight Loss | How many calories are you tall girls eating? | Feb 27 2009 15:13 (UTC) |
3 |
I agree with the upping the calories. If you think about it, 1200 cals is the min recommendation for a small, sedentary woman and you are tall and most definitely not sedentary! It therefore follows that you should be eating a little more than you are. Try entering your stats in here for a "second opinion"! You should also try entering your activity level as Moderately or Very active as the amount of exercise you do will impact (raise) your metabolism and this needs to be taken into account. I know eating more can be very scary at first (believe me - I know!) because there is a tendancy for the scales to up a bit. The most important thing is DON'T PANIC! This can usually be attributed to water weight and the fact that you are kick-starting your metabolism again, the number will go back down. I'm 5'7, 156lbs and only work out 3 times a week for 30 mins (so a bit heavier, but also shorter and working out a lot less). I'm succesfully losing on 1500/day. Good Luck! |

| Health & Support | Abnormal pap UPDATE! | Feb 26 2009 23:44 (UTC) |

I had an abnormal smear a couple of years ago and had to go for a couple of colposcopies, however my smear this year has turned out just fine! Abnormal cells in that area are quite common at some point in your life and are generally nothing to worry about, especially if you are proactively looking after your health in the way you are. Hope the cramps wear off soon! |

It's true that you should learn to judge food by eye...but previous experience has shown me I'm not good at this yet. One day I hope not to be a slave to the scale, but while I'm still working on weight loss, they are my invaluable friend! |

I usually cook myself something with plenty of garlic, onions and chilli in. Have a large dose of vitamin C and some echinacea (helps the immune system). Then before I go to bed I make a "hot toddy" with ginger, lemon juice and honey. Repeat the next day (although usually my cold symptoms have started to wane by then)

| Foods | Would you eat at McDonalds? | Feb 19 2009 09:20 (UTC) |

I used to eat there...it was my one stop shop if I was hungover...nothing like a fillet of fish to calm the tummy! However I stopped going there after reading Fast Food Nation (i'm soo suggestible!!) as I disagreed with a lot of their practices. Once a friend bought me a burger from there (after I quit going) and I thought "what the harm...it's already been paid for!" and like dazzleships was quite unwell afterwards...made me wonder what exactly they do put in there?!! Haven't gone near the stuff since which is not a problem where I live now because there isn't a McDs within 50 miles!! 30/f/SE but UK originally |

| Fitness | The Gym - To quit or not to quit. | Feb 16 2009 14:08 (UTC) |

Of course the gym works for some people...I am not one of those people and prefer exercising at home / out and about. I would say if you don't really enjoy going to the gym, then you're never really going to take advantage of the membership. You need to find something you enjoy and will continue doing (after all - this healthy lifestyle is hopefully for the long run!) I say ditch the gym, save yourself £50 a month and also save yourself a lot of needless guilt for when you don't go! but be sure to replace it with something you actually enjoy...or at the very least, don't dread! ;-) |
