Weight Loss Zoloft and unwanted weight gain Apr 20 2008

Hi,

I was having the same problem on Zoloft. So I wrote an article on this for Better Homes and Gardens magazine and did several interviews and lots of research, and yes, certain antidepressants are associated with weight gain. That said, most experts said if the medicine works, don't change it, change your diet.

Because of my gains, I switched to cymbalta for a year or so, but that didn't work so I'm back on zoloft. Doctor said the most important thing is to control the depression. But if your ED is going to be aggravated by weight gain, I'd say you need to talk to a professional about switching meds. Does the college have a health center you can go to?

Attitude makes a difference, how we carry ourselves, etc. But a man's attitude has a major impact. I can still remember when I was 18, 5'8'' and 118 lbs, swam 2 hours a day. My boyfriend at the time said my butt was too big.  Long time ago and we were both immature, but those words were burned on my brain. To this day I consider myself fat and ugly no matter what weight I am. Logic: If I was too big at 118, then I am obese at 145.

We want to be attractive to men. We want to be wanted. Rejections pile up and undermine us. I know many women fighting the "I am fat, stupid, and ugly" mindset. And some of that is due to what society (and men) value/think is beautiful.

mary,

You're right. I spoke to him and he changed the menu for Sunday night. He is sweet, just thinks I am OK as is—blind to my faults is a good thing, right?!

Hi there, I don't have advice either. Just words of encouragement. I was counting calories and exercising 5xs/week and didn't loose much to start with either. The fat is leaving my body very slowly, if at all. And I get so discouraged when I am good all week then don't loose anything—sometimes the scale went back up a bit. But then a week later, poof two pounds are gone. So I have figured out that I just need to average the losses over time. Rather than a pound a week, maybe 10 pounds over two months.

I will add that I started at 1500 calories a day and that didn't work at all. In fact, I don't loose anything unless I stay below 1300. Menopause, thyroid, etc must have something to do with it. Though you are much younger than me, perhaps you need to tweak your calorie intake?

But most of all, keep going. Don't give up. maria

I like your spunk! All my friends tell me they always know what I am thinking too, so I can handle the honesty. Sooo......you shall be the first person I add to my list.

Let me introduce myself:

My name is Maria. I joined March 20 for the calorie counting but just started visiting the forums. I'm 5'8'' and 198 aiming for 150. I don't know what size that is because I hate clothes. I try to only wear sweats, so most of the time I look like a frump. Undecided

Ah well, those days will end, eventually.

Hi,

I am the same way!

What is helping me is that I hired a personal trainer (not too much money through the YMCA). He not only supervises my workout twice a week, he gives me homework for three other workouts and checks my food log and weight once a week. It is helping me be accountable. He is also very kind and supportive—but strict about me following his rules!

I never thought I was worth the cost before, but I figured the health benefits are worth as much as the health costs of being this overweight.

Plus, I had to just totally eliminate all fattening foods from my house. The kids aren't too happy, but I have no willpower.

Good luck. Keep trying. I believe we can change!
