Here is what it means.

EAT 1441 calories :: BURN 2141 calories :: LOSE 1.4 lb per week

In order to lose weight, you need to eat less calories than you burn.   But if you eat too few calories, your weight loss slows down (that is what has happened to you).

So, up your calories to 1441 calories per day. You can do this eating healthy food: fruit, vegetables, whole grains, beans, fish, eggs, chicken.

sorry, du57y, but the "small condensed muscle" vs "large bulky muscle" is a myth. Women just don't build big bulky muscles unless they are taking drugs or genetically unusual.   Sometimes the scale seems to go up after you exercise because your body stores water when it's repairing muscles and making them stronger.  But that weight goes away, it is nothing to worry about.  You are right, it is good to take some days off from working out and not good to work out hard every single day.

DITTO alevin! I've lost 170 lbs. in two years four months. Think of your metabolism as a fire; to keep the fire BURNING you have to FEED it. You are not eating enough calories for your activity level. If your body doesn't get fuel it slows down the number of calories it burns regardless of how much you are working out. Our bodies are funny things, and you have to keep it happy so it will make you happy.

I eat 5-6 small meals a day. I have found it depends on what time of day you eat different types of food also. I eat most of my carbs early so my body can burn them off. Eat a small snack before working out, yesterday I ate a light 100 cal. english muffin with 1 Tbs. peanut butter, protein and carbs to give my body the energy it needs to burn fat. I drink a cup of skim milk after a workout to help my muscles rebuild. And you do need at least one day of rest per week to let your body repair itself after all the strenuous things you put it through.

Don't let your deficit go over 700 cal. and the weight will come off slow and steady wins the race!

Weight Loss Do men really prefer curvier girls? Apr 11 2008

yeah I think they mean slim girls (not stick thin) with curves, like natural curves of your body like this http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/04_02/A lbaDM2604_468x597.jpg

obviously some guys do actually prefer slightly larger women but I think a lot of guys who say they like curves actually mean like in the picture I posted.

I wouldn't say she is curvey. If she were standing strait up from her arm pit to her knees would be almost a strait line. Curvey would be Jennifer Lopez, small waist, hips bump out, butt perks out there, and has a nice size chest.

I agree about the personality coming out in a person. I used to weigh about 360 and I am married to a 150 lb. man who likes big girls. I was about 260 when we got married 11 years ago. If you are not happy with yourself, it shows. I was generally happy with myself, I was heavy all my life, so I was used to it. Sure I would have liked to lose a few lbs. but it wasn't the end of the world if I didn't because he loves me no matter what. By the way, I made a lifestyle change 2 years ago and now weigh 189 lbs. My husband thinks I am H O T! I have curves too! Except for the boob part they have shrunk :( We keep saying I should have what's hanging on my belly moved north to my chest! LOL

As far as your boyfriend, I am lucky too! My husband of 11 years loved me at 360. Well he thinks I'm *****H O T***** now, and even though I cringe at my "bat wings" and saggy tire around my middle he assures me that he doesn't care. Hell I was always saggy, now I'm just wrinkly and saggy, and a lot smaller. The sex is way better too! I don't get wore out so quick and I'm more fexible! Sorry didn't mean to go there but it's the truth. He has always been small 150-165, he likes big girls, but he can now get his arms around me! Jody:)

I know, it's crazy, sun! I haven't been this small since I was 18. Still a ways to go though. Unfortunately, I got rid of all my "thin" clothes a few years ago. I guess that's okay though, since my tastes have changed quite a bit. The bad part is I'm having a little bit of saggy skin. It depresses me since I'm only 24, but it's to be expected with 131 pounds of weight loss. I hope I can get rid of it so I'll look good in a bikini! They say lifting weights helps a lot.

Grats on your weight loss! I would tear apart my closet, but I'm in a wheelchair atm from a broken pelvis :(

I know what you girls are talking about. Down 170 pounds, I haven't weighed this since I was in Jr. high, at that time I had to buy husky clothes, sweat pants, and couldn't wear all the cute outfits. The other day, I bought MEDIUMS off the clearance rack at K-Mart! I could hear the angels singing over the loud speaker!LOL I was there to return some shorts I bought b/c when I tried them on at home they were too big Surprised! I have never had this problem before! I'm not shopping in the plus size anymore! It is kind of sureal, everyday I wake up and I'm still skinny. That is enough motivation right there, after being fat all my life.

I am also having the problems with saggy skin slainna:( Now when I shop for clothes I have to make sure the sleeves are long enough:( You know the styles short and cute. BlaHHHHHH ! But I would deffinatly rather be skinny than fat, life is so much easier now, only 32 here. I can fit in the seats, I get through a turn style, (can't wait for the fair to fit on the rides), my feet don't hurt, my back doesn't hurt, etc, etc, etc. Jody:)

I was so afraid my boyfriend would be repulsed by my saggy skin, honestly. He's nicer than that but years of ridicule for my weight destroyed most of my faith in humanity. He really put it in perspective though. I've lost 130 pounds and expect not to be saggy? That's crazy talk! Maybe I should start referring to it as my "battle scars", since it really has been a battle.

Wow a medium? I can't wait till I can grab my own mediums off the rack! :) I guess the long sleeves won't be such a problem for me though since I'm always cold due to the massive weight loss and (suspected) hypothyroidism. I literally am 95-97 degrees when I wake. When I was in the hospital, the doctors got very worried until I told them it was normal for me, and I have been that way for years.

If you don't mind my asking what was your starting weight and what are you at now?

Hi slainna, I used to weigh over 360! My scale could not weigh me. I use 360 as my start point cause a few months into it my friend said it looked like I had lost 20 lbs. I weighed myself and the scale said 340. I used to wear a size 32-34, and those were getting snug. I now weigh 187 and can fit into size 14 or mediums.  I'm very solid, I lift weights as part of my routine, and who knows how much of me is excess skin? My goal is 160 and to get rid of my excess skin. I eat 5-6 times a day at 1800-2000 calories. I joined cc because I just recently noticed I needed to count my calories to get all the way to my goal. Before I was just keeping my portions in check and exercising. That wasn't working anymore, so I guess I have to get nit picky now. I've come this far can't quit now and I can handle counting calories for a few more month's. It's working so far, I've lost 9.5 lbs since I started cc on 3-20-08. Jody:)

I asked a nutritionist (Ph.D.) about this, and he said it truly doesn't matter when you eat your calories. The point is that you take in fewer calories than you expend. If grazing keeps you satisfied and not gorging on high-calorie foods, that's great. If eating all your calories for the day in one meal works for you, that's technically fine, too, although I don't truly know anyone who can eat one enormous meal per day and feel good.

I also don't know anyone who got fat eating vegetables. For me, it was cheese and chocolate.

It is incorrect to suggest that "it truly doesn't matter when you eat your calories."  I don't think timing means EVERYTHING... but it matters.

I eat much like legaleli. I've lost 170 pounds in two years! I am a dealer in a casino, and get a twenty minute break every hour. I eat something every break or every other break, depending on the amount of calories I eat before I go to work. I eat between 1600 and 1800 calories a day. Exercise 4-5 times a week including weight training. The type of food you eat matters also. Say after a hard workout have some protein to help muscle rebuild. I eat most of my carbs (ceareal, breads, potatoes) in the begining of the day so my body has time to burn off those calories. My bedtime snack is yogurt and a banana (155 cal.) the banana has triptophan to help me sleep and it is easy for my body to digest so it goes through quickly, not like a piece of bread which would get stored as fat because it takes longer to digest. I also drink a 16oz. glass of water every break at work, usually 6 breaks, that's 96oz. water just at work!

Weight Loss Burn Meter question clarification Apr 07 2008
20:02 (UTC)

Make sure you have your activity level set right. I have mine set for light activity, and only add my exercise. I work 2 jobs, have 2 kids, and don't sit much at home.

As far as safe deficit......not sure. But 2000 difference a day might be too much, unless you are on the biggest looser ranch LOL! You don't want to loose it too fast, because you will quickly regain it if you come off your restricted diet. You can't go back to your old habbits after loose the weight, the exrecise and healthy eating cannot stop.

I feel like we are in the same boat! I've been overweight my entire life and topped out at over 360. I have lost 170 pounds over two years, and now I'm looking at what feels like a fat suit. I feel muscular underneath it all but I can't see it. My belly isn't my biggest concern, I can get that tucked in my jeans, but my saggy "bat wings" lol, is my problem. I can now fit in all the cute tops but now I have to worry about if the sleeves are long enough so my bat wings don't flop in the breeze.

I do all the weight training the experts recommend, for belly, arms, legs, etc. and I can feel the muscle under it all, but I still flop all over the place. I do 4-5 days of good cardio a week also. Thirty pounds to my goal, I'll probably do what the guy said about giving it a year of maintaining to see what is going to shrink, but I know it can't be much. I will definitely have surgery, I feel I've worked so hard for this body, and I'm still young (32), and I want to enjoy myself. I've gone from being self conscious sp? about my weight to being self conscious about my "bat wings" LoL! Let me know if you find any magic potions! Jody:)

Weight Loss company is doing biggest loser Apr 02 2008

Our company is doing the same thing only its's about to end this weekend.

I say go for it! I did it, they are going by % lost and most inches lost. Our HR lady is the only one who knows our weights and measurements. We didn't weigh infront of everybody. I was hoping to get most % lost b/c I'm smaller than a lot of the other people, and you don't have to loose a lot to get a high % when you are smaller.

I also have an advantage, I've been doing this for two years and have already lost 170 pounds! So I already had my momentum going, the others were just starting out. I know how it goes in the begining, good the first two weeks, then bad the next week.

Good luck! Hopfully they aren't weighing you infront of everybody! Would anybody do it then?

Weight Loss How long do you have to stay at a weight for it to be a plateau??? Apr 01 2008

I was just in a plateau for about 2 months! Nothing was shaking my cage! Not a spike in calories then a decrease, not a spike in exercise, nothing. Then I started logging my calories on cc and I started loosing again. Apperently I was under-estimating what was going in my mouth. I have been measuring and weighing everything also, not eye balling it.

I've been on a lifestyle change for a little over 2 years and I've lost 170 pounds! My favorite way to break a plateau is ordering pizza with hot wings, bread sticks, and a gooey dessert pizza! Sounds crazy but it has worked for me before, lots of times, except this time. But I think it's because I was under-estimating what I was eating on everyother day. I'm 30 pounds from my goal and I need to track every calorie now I guess. I weighed 360+ pounds now I weigh 189 pounds! My goal is 160.

I agree with melangs, your weight will fluctuate from day to day. Another question, are you eating breakfast? Breakfast gets your metabolism running. I eat every 2-4 hours 5-6 times a day, small meals so my body has time to burn those calories. If you're eating all your calories in 2 or 3 meals you may not be getting them all burned and then they are stored as fat. Another thing, you need a day of rest so your muscles can repair. I find I loose after my day of rest.

Weight Loss what are some good diet tips- what am I doing wrong Mar 30 2008

I have my activity set at moderate, I work 2 jobs, one full time as a card dealer, one part time in a Quizno's sub shop. I have 2 kids 8 and 6. I only log my exercise. My burn meter says I burn 2550 cal. without my exercise. I eat 1700-1750 cal. a day. I am very diligent at what goes in my mouth. I have lost 8 lbs. since I joined cc on 3-20-08.

I joined cc because I had lost 160 lbs. in 2 years and the last 30 has not been moving. I started tracking my calories and the weight has been dropping off. If you have a small amount of weight to loose you need to be aware of every morsal that goes in your mouth. For 2 years I just estimated what I was eating and it worked. But now I am so close to my goal that I need to watch every calorie.

Because I don't spend my day infront of the computer, I have a seperate food log I hand write what I eat, the calories are either on the package or I know them from cc. I am measuring everything too, I am not trusting my eye. Then the fallowing day I input them on my log at cc. I do quickly record any exercise that I do the same day on cc so I can see how many cals. I'll burn for the day.

Hope this helps!

Foods Need some dietary advice - on a 1500 calorie a day diet, and don't know what to eat. Mar 26 2008

I eat 5- 6 times a day. Small meals, 150-400 calories each. That way my body is having enough time to burn what I eat in between meals. If you eat between 600-700 calories in one sitting your body may not burn all of those before you eat again; so your body stores those calories as fat to work on the ones your consuming now. Eating every 2-3 hours keeps your metabolism reved up, doesn't let your body think your starving, and it keeps burning calories.

Breakfast: Special K red berries w/ skim milk and I need my coffee w/ sugar free hazelnut creamer

Snack: fruit and yogurt no fat

Lunch: low cal muti grain bread w/ 1 TBS. honey mustard, 2 oz. black forest ham, 1 oz. slice of colby jack cheese. Spray grill pan w/ olive oil spray, assemble sandwich in pan and spray other side of sandwich w/ spray. Grill until golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted...mmmmmm

instead of chips...baby carrotts w/ 2TBS. your favorite lite dressing.

Snack: hard boiled egg and an orange

Dinner: Cabbage and turkey sausage stirfry. Saute 1c. onion chopped, 1c. bell pepper chopped, and half a head of cabbage chopped in about 3 TBS. olive oil. When veggies are tender crisp, put in the chopped turkey sausage, one package of 6 sausages. Season to taste, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, cumin and garlic. Saute another 5-10 minutes until the sausage is heated through and veggies are tender.

Snack/dessert: 1 Skinny cow low fat icecream sandwich (140cal.)

Bedtime snack: 1 banana and some sugar free jello pudding

I have lost 168 pounds in two years eating like this! Lots of exercise too!

Hi! I'm new here too (3 days). I'm 5' 5", 193.5 lbs.,32 yrs. old, been dieting since Jan. 2006. Start weight 360+, pounds lost 166.5. I joined because I was 35 pounds from my goal and the weight was not coming off. So I thought tracking my calories and my portions better might help. I was right! I've lost 3 pounds already! I must have been under estimating my calories. So I can handle this for about 3-4 months to get to my goal weight of 160. I already know what it takes to maintain, I was in that plateau for about 3 months, and I didn't gain any.

So I'll be your friend if you want. Message me anytime.
