personally, anti-depressants always made me severely sick and lose weight. i take meds for anxiety (xanax) and if i have a day where i need i don't go overboard with food i just don't obsess about it like i normally do.i think an anti-anxiety low-dose med would be good to calm your anxieties about food, it helps me and my regular anxiety/panic attacks.

i'm surprised people actually like those! i got them for the calorie content also and i was so sad that i hated them :(

Weight Loss fruit & veg only? Jun 16 2008

it would be great if the majority of foods you ate were fruits and vegetables but you may lose energy and like others said you would gain it back or possible go into starvation mode. i suggest eatings lots and lots of veggies and fruits- with other meal items..... like 2 tablespoons peanut butter on a 100 calorie thomas english muffin for breakfast with a large portion of fruit- about 1 1/2 cups about 30 minutes prior to the english muffin. then for lunch each another large portion of fruit 30 minutes prior to your meal and then eat 1 cup of veggies with half a chicken breast or 4 ounces of other lean meat. etc. etc. include meat or tofu in this fast and you are good to go!

and skip the juice! that is just drinking sugar- which is horrible for your diet. maybe 1 6-8ounce glass of no sugar added juice per day, but thats it! just drink water! and if you feel the need drink no more than 1 diet soda a day...

i'm giving you this advice from experience- i've tried eating next to nothing and either the weight won't budge or you gain it back immediatly plus 50% more......  no fun!

stay healthy!

Pregnancy & Parenting Input From New Moms? Jun 16 2008

as others have suggested maybe a gift certificate to a spa or a gift certificate to a non-maternity clothing store.  The first thing i did after my 6-week check up was go buy "fat jeans". even if she only wears them for a month or two they will make her feel "human" again after wearing maternity clothing for SOOO long.

one suggestion though- i know you care but don't show up unexpected. and when it comes to the birth, wait to be invited to the hospital. my in-laws held my daughter before my own mother and that really bothers me. And the fact that they showed up in the middle of my labor 100% unannounced!  you may have already discussed this with your son and daughter-in-law but i just thought i'd give my opinion.  And also, after the baby arrives keep the same thing in mind- never show up unexpected! And when you visit, as much as you want to oooh and ahhh over the baby do some chores! a load of laundry- fold it, or run the dishwasher- wash bottles if she isn't breastfeeding, etc. etc. just one or two littel chores a few times a week will really mean something to them while they try to adjust to new life with a child.

i love the new "maternity style".... i hate the maternity store since having my daughter but i love the style! it covers the awkward "is she pregnant" belly.... my daughter is almost 14 months and even i think i look 3-4 months pregnant... as if i'm in the stage where people shouldn't ask unless they KNOW

i wanted to add a story... 4 days after i had my daugher i went into the maternity store for sweatpants. i had my newborn with me in the stroller..... and a woman asked how far along i was.... how rude! i had a small baby with me and my belly was SUPER JIGGLY from not having a baby it in..... i know this doesn't really count- but seriously i had a very tiny baby don't people know that our bodies won't reverse from pregnancy immediately???? my kid is over 1 and i'm still battling those last 10 pounds!

Young Calorie Counters What do I do with my daughter's binge eating? Jun 09 2008

i didn't read the section about you adopting her until i posted my first message-

maybe you can see if your insurance covers psychological appointments. i'm not saying put her on medications but maybe just send her to a psychologist to talk to. Since she is 13 and lots can happen in 13 years she likely has a lot to talk about. And while you can talk to her about it she may feel more comfortable telling a stranger if she knows this person will not tell you. Also, a therapist may pinpoint problems and make suggestions for her to live a better life with your family when you adopt her.

Congratulations on the adoption. I have a 14 month old biological daughter but my husband and i are considering adoption in about 3 years. You are really a blessing to this child, if she has problems with bingeing at 13 you are stepping in to help at a time where these habits are more easily reversible.

you don't have to mention her weight gain. but as others said eliminate the higher calorie snacks. let her pick out fruits and vegetable at the store. keep a few snacks in the house just make sure she doesn't eat them all in one day. explain to her that if she wants to eat she must eat in the kitchen- not because you are monitoring her but because of mess and wrappers and such. tell her she can eat whenever she wants- if she is bingeing maybe she is having issues at school or simply doesn't feel that she is allowed to eat these things in front of the family. just make it known that eat is perfectly normal and nothing to hide, but eating A LOT at once isn't good for her body (not her weight, just her in general)

Weight Loss 20 pounds in 10 weeks-have you ever done it?? Jun 09 2008

wow, we are the same age, height and weight and i too WANT to lose 20 pounds!!! I had a baby 14 months ago and i never used to worry about my weight. but now, its almost impossible to lose it! so i joined CC in order to monitor my eat- for the past 9 days i have stuck to 1200-1400 calories and i've lost 2 pounds- 145-143 as of this morning.  i just hope i can stick with it. i ended up throwing out all of the junk food in my house and getting that book "eat this not that". i went to the grocery store and stocked up on healthier choices and lots of fruits and vegetables. i'm trying to eat a cup of fruit or carrots if i get hungry between meals.

i make the same thing!!! except i use the whole wheat "pita pockets" (by sara lee i think) and they are only 80 cals. And sometime at the end of baking i broil it for 60-90 seconds for that extra crunch.

now i'm hungry.

the stroller i'm pushing is carrying the being that tempted me to eat like a fat cow while pregnant.... hence why 1 year later i'm still fighting the last 10 lbs.

Foods Why did I get a C+ for my grade yesterday? Can someone tell me? Apr 01 2008

looks like the fat in some of the foods- but likely also the salt and the items containing cheese. when i have a day when i eat 2 pieces of string cheese and some pasta with cheese i tend to get a low grade- and when i check it correlates with the high salt. you can also click on each food before you press the "add to food log" button and it will tell you the positives and negatives about each food. its automated so it doesn't always give a truely accurate grade for the foods we eat :)
