| Motivation | I would like to find mutual support here from others like me with over 40lbs to loose | Oct 18 2008 17:54 (UTC) |

You can count me in! I started this journey back in March, but have maintained, rather than lost the additional weight. I started at 170, went down to 157, back to 160 and have stayed here for 3 months. Looking to lose those 40 pounds to get to my goal of 120, wow how hot would I be? LOL...anyhow, I am 30, married, a full time teacher and grad student so time is mimimum...I only have time to study and well, off to work I go. So getting back on the band-wagon would be great. |

| Foods | What's your take on SlimFast shakes? | Jul 10 2008 14:42 (UTC) |

I started on Slimfast, but I realized for the calories I could actually eat something...like egg whites, lean healthy choice ham, whole wheat toast and jam for the same amount of calories. Plus you have to get used to eating in the real world, so many alternatives that are healthier. I love to eat and would rather eat my meal and savor it, than to drink it and be hungry an hour later ya know? |

0 calories, 2 carbs, 1 gram of fiber (dietary 1g, soluble 1g) I didn't really notice it because the box looks the same except it's got green lettering and says "1 gram of fiber in every packet" I use splenda to sweeten my oatmeal and coffee so this little bonus is terrific! I wish more companies would jump on the fiber bandwagon, it's so easy to sneak in a bit of fiber without affecting flavor. It tastes the same, I did notice it's thicker when you pour it out so you have to tap the little packet. Great idea! |

| Weight Loss | I HATE being short! | Jun 12 2008 19:10 (UTC) |

Oh no no no sweetie, love your short height! Embrace it! Look I am 4'11"...yes not even 5 feet tall. I teach high school kids and I exude more fear than my taller counterparts :) That being said I love my height, no matter what I am cute..LOL...and I never have to worry about a guy being shorter. In fact I have never met a guy that didn't dig petite women! And for the diet thing, 10 pounds lost on us shows, it's awesome...I'm also lucky I gain weight all over so I lose it evenly, hence when I was weighing 170 I didn't look like a huge butterball just yet...LOL Sure I would like to be taller, but this is all I know, I love being a cute shorty, love my short legs which look so cute in heels...and even if I am the shortest in the group the tall people always have to bend my way..hehe ;) And it's not being short, it's petite Like my husband says "good things come in small packages"!!! |

| I never gained weight on Yaz, actually none of the BC, my appetite would increase yes but I just gained weight because I flat out ate too much...LOL
I have nothing but good things to say about it. My period lasts only 3 days and is veryyyyy light. I still get PMS but I think that is just something I do with all the ones i have tried. Haven't experienced breast soreness...nothing...I love it. |

| Weight Loss | I can't stop overeating after school.................OMG did i just binge/!?!?!?!? first time ever? | Apr 20 2008 02:50 (UTC) |

Wow what a tough school you go to! I teach High School and I let my kids eat and drink in class, all the teachers do. As long as wrappers are thrown in the trash etc. Maybe talking to your teacher? Ask if it would be possible to eat something light, discreetly? Or could you eat some nuts between classes? I can't believe in this day and age their are still schools that have ridiculous rules on eating! I have cleaning wipes and paper towels on hand in class, if someone spills something they clean it up. Anyways, enough of me ranting...if asking a teacher if you could snack doesn't work, then keep some slices apple packs in your bag, nuts etc. Stuff you count ahead of time so you know you won't overeat and that you can eat between classes. And ditto on what others said, keep unhealthy food out of the house! It can be too tempting... |

| Weight Loss | Do men really prefer curvier girls? | Apr 20 2008 02:20 (UTC) |

As a latina, I'm curvy. Most latin men love curvy, therefore, I'm good! Hubby loves me for who I am, I gained 30 pounds in the 5 years we have been together and I want to get back to when we met weight. I've made posts about how I want to get to 130, 125 min, and at 5 ft. people think this is still overweight. That my ideal should be 112...at 130 I am a size 5 which is perfect. I love having hips and a small waist, big bust, that is curvy...so I made sure when I dated a guy he liked me for who I was. I will never be that skinny, no hips, equality all over...and I don't want to be. I celebrate my womanly body (not fat, but healthy) I think my point is men have their tastes, the key is to love yourself first! If a guy would prefer you thin like a stick, then move on! You want someone who likes you for who you are. I thought all men liked skinny skinny women, and found many like curves! Like my husband said, I like something to hold on too...not fat but healthy! Love yourself then everything will follow.. |

I do have my free day on the weekend eat what I want, but it's not fried. And when I do eat I take my time and realllllly enjoy it. And the biggest thing is I stop when I am full. I try to plan ahead, for example, if we go to a restaurant then for the day I eat salads, fruits, veggies. Something I do as well is before we go out to eat I eat an apple so in this way I'm not starving, I eat without going overboard. Also that weekend I exercise a bit longer than usual. |

| Weight Loss | Which weight would you log? | Apr 07 2008 14:45 (UTC) |
13 |
I always log the first initial number, my scale is weird, I could get off and get on and go up half a pound, get back off, on again and it's a different number. So I weigh myself in my underwear and the number that comes up first is it. I log it and move on. I actually hide it under my bed towards the middle so if I am tempted I'd have to crawl under my bed to get it! But if weighing between highest and lowest, I'd log the lowest number if it shows up more than once if that makes sense. I'd love to find a scale that was really accurate but unfortunately it's not the case. Why not measure yourself instead? I have only shown a 5 pound loss but I have lost already an inch in my waist, so I look like i have lost 10 pounds, which is cool with me. I am more into getting into my "thin" clothes than what the numbers say! |

Aha! Splenda...totally forgot about that! And do you just use regular Quaker oatmeal? I seriously made glue when I used the microwave at work, it was hilarious! Since I am a teacher, one of my students suggested I make it into a sculpture I will have to experiment then, I've never had it with anything in it so this should be interesting! |

Well being that my scale movement seemed to be a hiccup and what I THOUGHT was weightloss was not I am trying to account for every calorie I can think of. I have been adding them in, but what if you don't need too? My vitamins are organic and food based which is why I think they amount to higher calories. Now my probiotics doesn't have calories but the calcium and woman's multi does as do the other things I take. I think I'll have some homework tonight researching this. I am sure I'm not the only one who has wondered..LOL

Oh that stuff sounds amazing!!! I totally forgot this site has a recipe section... I honestly haven't taken the time to look for recipes but I will make it a priority next week! That crusted tilapia sounds delicious!!! Dinner with hubby have kinda taken the back seat which is silly because we have to learn to eat healthy together! And he also offered to cook whatever I wanted, I just need to give him a recipe. I have to take advantage of the fact I have an ex-chef as a husband (note why I got heavy to begin with!!) You know what's funny, in the 4 weeks I have started my "life change" he has lost 8 pounds! It's like that commercial, where the wife loses a little bit and the husband loses double |

Thank you for the quick response! That helps a lot! I wish I knew all of this information before. The good news is now I know what I need to do in order to keep going. Oh and 112 would be nice, but as a latina my man likes me with curves, hence the official goal of 125-130...lol |

I think going for weekly averages would get me into trouble... I think it is a good goal for later one, once I get the hang of this. For now I am counting calories, this stuff can be so confusing. I was reading other posts about deficits, calories spent etc. and get so confused. I have no idea what it all means... Hmmm...for now I am sticking to the simple 1500 calories a day and see how it goes. I would love some simple clarification on the whole calorie thing though.

Thank you so much for the input. It never occured to me that I was eating too little...that would totally make sense because the scale is not budging as if it's holding onto something for "safekeeping". I'll try hitting the 1500 mark and won't weight myself again until next Saturday. I usually have my husband hide the scale so I have no idea where it is...LOL I just bought some organic skim milk with some of the Kashi cereal so I guess it is time to eat a bit of it. Wow, 1500 calories seems like so much considering I am already stuffed with the 1300 mark. And the 20 minutes on the elliptical seems like I ran a marathon afterwards, I alternate the tension though, I'll do 2 minutes on level 2, then go to 4, then back to 3, up to 4 then back to 2 etc. I read it's supposed to help keep the metabolism going. I also have the one that has the arms so when I am done I totally feel it in my arms! Slowly, but surely, I am trying to do this the right way. When I met my husband I weighed 140 and looked great, but I was starving! I don't want to go back to that again because that is how I ended up at 170!! I appreciate your help! |
