I keep a food blog. I eat eat nutritious foods without preservatives and additives.

I also make sure I have kitchen gadgets that make eating healthy easier... like a mandolin, and apple corer. I have lots of Tupperware on hand for storage, and keep my cupboards clear of "diet foods".  :)

I love strength training too! Cardio for me is like pulling teeth. So I make sure I use equipment I like!... like the rowing machine!

I get sweating when I lift weights... but only if I go at it hard!! And I am not usually a "sweaty person"

Sambason, Thanks for your thread. I find it comes and goes on this forum in waves... Its odd.

I think is due to a lack of stickies,,,,, so people don't get annoyed at the same questions and basic rules of the site... like VLC eating... and other stuff of the sorts!

I would not say rice is so high in calories that it should be avoided. Why not portion control it, and go with a wild rice to get the most out of it.

Now par boiled white rice is a waste of calories...

I lost a lot of weight on Atkins... 7 years ago.. then gained it all back and then some.

I reccomend learning a healhty way of eating, that will last you a life time, and not a quick fix.   It is just not sustainable for an average person... (in my opinion)

my first 5k time was 39:00 minutes. I tried hard, and was exhausted. I was very out of shape. That was three years ago. I can probably do it in 31:00 min now. I am just not a runner, but I love charity 5 and 10k's and will never stop doing them!

Weight Loss Body Fat Percentages??? Nov 21 2009

I'm lifting weights, and eating a clean diet. I am 5'8 141lbs 27yo SW:176    my body fat % dropped 0.6%  this last month since I started weight lifting.

I measure my body fat by combining the results of on-line neck/waist/weight calculator and my scale. I average the two, I find they are close to each other to start.

Weight Loss Carb Cycling? Nov 21 2009
02:07 (UTC)

There was an article in last months Oxygen magazine about carb cycling. I thought I would give it a try. No cheating, I was very strict. ........... and not a difference. My metabolism did'nt seem to care, and I even went into ketosis. It reminded me of my old "Atkins diet" days. And I thought I was done with the low carb band wagon.

I understand the theory behind it, and why some body builders may try it as a way of cutting prior to a contest.... but for an average joe like me, I found no use for it.

I just keep my meals balanced and healthy now.... as if calorie counting isn't enough counting :)

-Watch your ratio's of fat/carbs/protein

-Get plenty of protein

- Lift weights, muscle burns fat and increases metabolism

- Get a serious plan, stick to it. Be honest with yourself

- Take one day at a time, take progress pictures, and measurments  ... just some ideas!

Set healthy mini goals.... reward accordingly!

Or if you go to the gym,,, they may have an old fashioned  "beam" scale... the type where you move the weight as it balances. see link. there is a height attachment,... it is found at the back of the top of the scale..

To save yourself and the health care system a doctors visit for a height check... just go to any 711/walmart... ect  go to the front door, there will be a height chart on the wall. Have a friend, or the friendly walmart greeter read out to you your height,,, and voila!

Weight Loss Wrist measurement Oct 31 2009

Original Post by makphl:

Just to clarify, I don't mean to insinuate that the poster is not aware of using the BMI standards and realize the link was focused on the wrist size tool - seems quite the opposite from previous posts and I recognize she is focused on health.

But this site does also attract a significant number of people who are struggling with eating disorders and looking for reasons to justify going lower than is healthy -- I just didn't want this tool to be used in that matter for others who may come upon this post.

BMI is not the be all and end all.  There is also body fat (weight) and body fat percentages. It was to provoke thought. I take your posts as a personal attack. It was a random website I came across while looking up health sites after trying to figure out an update on my reccomended daily caloric intake.

Calorie count website advocates wrist measurements when you enter your personal weight goal information, so I am not pulling it out of the air, or promoting poor health or ED's.
