Original Post by fidget84: I may not be in a position to help but I am in a position to share as I have gone through similar issues. Two pounds is a bigger deal if you are short like I am, compared to a taller person. Your stomach protudes, you gain an inch on your thighs and your face gets obviously rounder. All from two pounds. How is it stupid to say that it takes self-control to not binge? Did I just miss something here? Are you saying a binge is a display of great self-control? |

Question... how did you recover? I was just wondering how it would be like to talk to a doctor or psychologist, especially if one wasn't suffering from anorexia, just another ED that meant you didn't look like you were about to die. Do people with other EDs actually come forward and talk about it? A little off-topic, sorry... |

Yes, cardio tears down muscle. What people seem to think is that their bodies are stupid and won't rebuild it. Whenever you walk, run, swim, your muscle is torn down. To rebuild new muscle, the body needs nutrients and energy. For a person losing weight healthily, it then BREAKS DOWN THE FAT to get that energy. Hence you do not lose muscle, you lose fat. And when the fat starts to disappear, you feel like you've built muscle because it reveals itself from beneath the layers of fat. |

The loose skin does go away, if that's any inspiration. For awhile you'll have some horrible silver stretch marks, but keep using moisturizer and keep exercising to help the circulation. It may take forever (took me a year) but we have youth on our side. =] |

Original Post by pgeorgian: Well, if you know a lot about Christianity and choose not to believe it, that's definitely your perogative. But you meet people on forums who know nothing or know a warped version of Christianity they've heard from some Jehovah's Witness or something, and who get upset when 'preached' to. I am cautious of inciting arguments when expressing my opinions. Especially as I am aware that I don't know every single thing about Christianity although I believe in it, so I wouldn't want to put anyone off Christianity by seeming arrogant or hypocritical. I accept there are people who have studied many different religions, or even just Christianity, and choose not to believe in it. |

If I went into great detail, would you be happy to listen to it? Or would it be considered shoving your beliefs down other people's throats? Of course if you'd like to hear just how complex Christianity can be, I'm sure there are many believers who are happy to speak with you. But it's a difficult balance to make your point without seeming too overbearing. |

When I had to get my period back, I ate lots of legumes, soy and avocado - basically good fats. I also had to, unfortunately, gain two pounds in the process. As for the binging... I'm positive it boils down to a matter of self-control, distracting yourself, and time to re-learn healthier eating patterns... but I'm in no position to dish out advice yet as I still have that problem. I wish you luck too. |

It is my personal belief that the calculator here is highly inaccurate especially for small-build people, though many will disagree. If you have been to a dietician I suggest you follow your dietician as a real professional will know your needs far better than a calculator on the internet ever will. |

Original Post by pgeorgian: It's up to every individual whether they want to accept the 'package'. I agree some Christians give others a bad name by trying to force their beliefs down other people's throats. Then again you have crazed Islamists, Jews, Scientologists, whoever. And to those who believe in Christianity, not that it may matter to you or other non-believers, if the 'package' is salvation and a close bond with God in exchange for say, not having sex before marriage or giving up Sundays, that sounds like a pretty good deal. |

I believe it tends to be, you humble yourself and put your faith and trust in God, and in doing so learn to accept both blessings and calamity. Not, you expect love and care and protection showered on you first before you decide to go to church. I believe in a God who will be there for me if I need him. But I wouldn't go as far as to dictate in what way he should be there. |

Original Post by thhq: Whoa, not sure what restaurant you go to, but as a general rule udon is WAY lower in calories than ramen. A bowl of udon is 350 - 500 calories, and a bowl of ramen is usually 500 - 700 calories (of course, there are lots of variations upwards and downwards)... |

Can you eat so much you die from obesity? Yes. Do you do it? No. Can God make a rock so he can't lift it? Probably. Is there a need to question it? No. |

Well, the 1850 recommendation is an average based on the fact that you say you exercise moderately. So if you've done a gym workout, that's actually included in the 1850 and you don't need to eat more on a day your exercise. However the calculators are not perfect and you should definitely vary your calories to more or less and see how your body reacts. |

Your breasts won't shrink to nothing. After awhile they'll stop at a certain size and that was your natural God-given size to begin with. They tend to go first though, before your thighs or stomach. But I like being flatter than before, it makes you look slimmer. |

1. Fresh fruit and vegetables. 2. 7+ drinks is excessive. Calorie-count aside, that much alcohol is highly dangerous for your body. 3. Stopping the alcohol would be good, considering if you drink seven serves of alcohol that's easily 600 - 900 calories. And start exercising if you aren't already. |

| Weight Loss | Obesity & Starvation question | Jan 29 2009 12:58 (UTC) |

I remember reading that article and thinking it was a whole crock of BS. Firstly it is a one-off case and anomalies do happen. Secondly, when you say a starving body, it means exactly that - a starving body. Last I checked obese people aren't exactly starving. In the vast majority of cases, their bodies will burn all their extra fat first. To the case study person, define what you mean when an obese person takes on starvation. You mean stop eating? Because that's not starvation. Starvation is kids in Africa. |

The greatest irony is that for those who shun white rice like the plague, the Japanese eat a hell lot of it and they are generally considered a slim population. Better yet, the times I've lost weight have been when I ate white rice as part of my meals. |

Original Post by jade_100: I agree with you about the smaller appetite thing - it happens. But he said he wasn't anorexic, so why not follow his appetite? If you want to lose weight why purposefully eat more food if you're not hungry? Just a thought. As for the calculator, it is an internet program meant as it guide. I wouldn't take it too seriously. Talking to a certified professional would be more realistic. |

| Weight Loss | Is anyone scared that losing weight will be disappointing/ ruin things? | Jan 29 2009 12:26 (UTC) |

If you lose weight and you're still ugly, wear makeup. =D Worst case, you could gain it all back. =D Look, extra weight is doing you no favours. Bad for your heart, your joints, etc. - think of the health issues that come with being overweight. And it is possible to keep 'out of the game' even if you're skinny, though I don't see how that's relevant. I mean, you wouldn't burn your face just to get to be not pretty, right? Not to mention, why would skinny person automatically be a threat or competition? Isn't it your inner personality that makes you a 'safe' friend or a confidant? I think you need to stop thinking the world is out to get you in some way or the other. Live it up! Enjoy a healthy lifestyle and don't keep looking over your shoulder, it's probably worse for your health than being overweight. |

What is your goal, weight gain? Because if it's weight loss, I'm going to go against a multitude of posters here and say, if you're not hungry, you don't have to eat it. Your body will let you know if it needs food, so why feed it unneccessarily just because a calculator on the internet tells you to? |

Different scales have different workings. What you should do is weigh yourself by difference; weigh both yourself and something heavy-ish, like a chair or another person. Then just weigh the chair or other person. Subtract their weight from both your weights. The difference is your weight. |

| Weight Loss | Daily threshold of 1200 calories - Is my health affected? | Jan 29 2009 11:44 (UTC) |
12 |
Nope. They recommend 1200 calories as a minimum because if you eat like a normal healthy person, the amount of food that totals 1200 cals will generally give you the right amount of minerals, vitamins, calcium, etc. give or take. There's no reason why if a physician or dietician prescribes an even lower diet that is very carefully planned with supplements or something, that you cannot eat less. This is true especially for a lot of petite women. |

I so understand what you mean! If it's in a cup I don't drink it period, even if it's from the Diet Coke nozzle - who knows what the person who filled the tank put in it? I don't know the taste of regular Coke because I have never had it in my life, and no way would I risk drinking a cup of Coke. And speaking of Starbucks, once I ordered one of their low-fat caramel frappucino things and even though it had no whip the girl behind the counter had put like, a half cup extra of caramel sauce in it. Jeez, thanks. |

| Weight Loss | Lost 110 pounds in 5 months. How can I tell if I lost fat and not muscle? | Jan 29 2009 06:04 (UTC) |
2 |
| Congrats on the weight loss. Don't worry, a majority of your weight loss was fat. Unless you're telling me you had 110 pounds of solid muscle before.
Put scientifically, say you have reduced your normal food intake and upped your exercise. The body needs extra energy it can't find from less food. If the body can release 9 calories burning a gram of fat, versus only 4 or 5 for burning protein (muscle), it will burn the fat so it gets more energy for less work. Only for starving people who have no extra fat reserves left, the body will begin to consume muscle in order to preserve the fat that is vital. Of course, anyone with a good amount of weight to lose is likely to be hoarding a lot of non-vital fat. Have faith that your body is clever enough to burn its fat reserves which provides it with a more efficient source energy. =] |

| Good luck - you have quite a bit of time so I hope you'll make your goal! For the chocolate thing... I hear some people buy a small bag of chocolate chips/M&Ms, eat one when they crave, then chew gum. It really helps with the portion control, but I guess the risk is eating it all... | |||
| Weight Loss | what is a complete protein? | Jan 29 2009 05:55 (UTC) |

| Like others have said, you can get all your complete proteins from soy and a range of vegetable/legume proteins. What I want to know is, why do you need 200 grams of protein? o-o I'm not sure if you're on a special diet or something but 200 grams sounds beyond excessive for the average person... | |||
