Health & Support Have you ever binged but not gained weight from it? Apr 06 2008

wistfulxthinking, I thought you were recovering from an ED.. it's so triggering when I see that other people "recovering" are still undereating.

It's time you accepted that the reason your body binges is because it wants to gain weight in order to be healthy. You're underweight and you need to gain weight, so why worry about this binge making you gain weight? Hopefully it has, because weight gain is a step in the right direction.

Whenever PETA tries to feed me crap like that I feel compelled to eat a piece of steak or drink a glass of milk. The sad thing is that those campaigns influence young foolish children who become convinced veganism will make them thinner and prettier.

You don't know that you'd gain more and since under-eating clearly is not working why continue with it? It's plain stupid to continue with the same method that has failed time and time before and expect different results.

Because it makes you fat and gassy, causes acne and gives you mucus and pus... or so PETA claims.

If I were you I'd eat 2000 calories a day; balanced so it's 500 breakfast, 500 lunch, 500 dinner and the rest for snacks and dessert. I mean, if you're going to gain weight even if you're under-eating you might as well eat normally and nourish your body properly. Who knows? It might actually fix your metabolism.

I've always wondered this myself. We don't know yet whether plants feel pain- they could and just because they can't wail or scream it doesn't mean they don't suffer. Vegans could be the cruelest being of us all. Imagine that, what a riot if the plants suffered more than the animals. Ha.

Well fine. If you all think it's OK to continue disordered eating so be it. This thread can continue fueling eating disorders and making people feel as if eating normally is overeating.

You need to force yourself to eat more because under-eating like that is extreme and eventually you'll plateau and only be able to maintain on 200 or so calories- not ideal! Try eating several smaller meals throughout the day spaced out evenly so you never feel bloated and tempted to purge.

Women these days aren't the walking incubators of the past. Or at least I like to think we've progressed just a bit towards the point where we don't have to be defined by children.

Lots of people these days claim to have wheat intolerances but apparently only 1% of the population does and the rest of the people are just experiencing the effects of over-eating. Of course if you eat too much of something it's going to affect you adversely. Try cutting back on wheat consumption but not getting rid of it completely and see if things get better- if you actually don't have an intolerance it's a lot of hassle to live gluten-free.

It makes those who eat proper meals feel insecure about their choices, like they too should be obsessive compulsively under-eating. I'm sure other people here find it triggering too.

You know why I think people hate skinny people? It's nothing to do with envy and everything to do with the fact that starvation makes people irritable and nasty. So all the skinny people under-eating are mean and attract hatred. But that's just me spouting. I'm actually skinny myself and If people think being skinny comes naturally to you, so what? Most people like the idea of others thinking they're effortlessly beautiful/thin/intelligent.

I personally couldn't care less about becoming infertile but menstruation is important because the fact that your body is not functioning normally means something is wrong and causes other problems.

Yes, definitely stop counting calories. Eat 3 proper meals a day, 2 snacks and your body will end up at whatever weight it wants to be. I don't believe that will be a higher weight, it will probably be lower because you won't be affected by bingeing.

At some point you just need food for energy. White rice contains lots of energy and it's not high in saturated fat or anything nasty so it's not evil.

p.s. I eat both white rice and brown rice.

Young Calorie Counters can you explain this to me? Mar 26 2008

I believe a calorie is a calorie to some extent but then I believe at a point it does matter what you're eating. If you're eating pastries all day and not getting enough protein then muscle will wither etc. There's a reason body builders eat "clean" in reducing their body fat percentage.

It's not all "real" in that most of it is not actual fat; it's water retention. Hyper-metabolic is the state in which recovering anorexics go into where their metabolism increases dramatically.

I agree. You should go to your doctor and they'll either prescribe you an oral or topical antibiotic or refer you to a dermatologist.
