My mother-in-law always cooked hers that way and the bag never caught on fire. I use the Reynolds roasting bags however, because I feel with my luck, the bag would catch on fire. |

Happy Friday everyone! It has been slow lately. Hope it does pick back up soon. Ice, I got a membership to the YMCA too. I do okay with cardio by walking everyday and riding my stationary bike at home, but I needed some type of weight training. I go to a class on Monday nights called "muscleworks." I am the biggest one in the class, but so far, I have been able to keep up with most of the exercises. There are a lot of small weights and ab crunches. The first time I went, I could hardly move the next three days. lol My Y also doesn't have the adult swim at convenient times. I signed up for my husband also because he has knee problems and I thought the swimming would be a good exercise since he has trouble walking. But it's hard to find a time that's good for us to get there. Hope everyone has a great weekend! |

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been gone for so long. Had some ups and downs, then went on vacation to New Orleans the first week of November, came home and got a cold/flu, so have been feeling yucky. But I am back and ready to get back on track. Shoolpooter, welcome to the group. Very supportive and motivating bunch here. I guess Bonnie & Penny are on vacation. Hope they are having a great time. ice, I know what you mean about eating total junk, that's what I did all last week while I was sick. Comfort food/oreos. I know better, but I just didn't care. I am scared to get on the scales right now to see how much damage I did. I have decided to get back on track with exercising and logging my calories (which hopefully will encourage me to eat better food) and then weigh in next week. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Gracie |

Original Post by silentdeadlyrose: When Tracy won the choice of teams, the thought crossed my mind that it was rigged. Then, when they didn't vote her off, after everything she's done, I can't help but believe it is rigged. I think the producers think people find her interesting and want to watch to hate her. I prefer the show when it's about them losing and helping each other and not the drama. |

Good morning everyone! Welcome to all of the new people. You have a found a very supportive and motivating group here. Penny, happy belated anniversary. Hang in there. Between caring for your husband and your mil, you have your hands full. Keeping up with your exercise is amazing. And 70 laps! Wow! They'd have to call the ambulance for me. Amandie, congrats on the 218. You'll be in Onderland before you know it. Bonnie, sorry to hear your back is bothering you. Thank you for the comments on my journal. I was feeling guilty and depressed and you made me realize I was doing okay and gave some helpful advice on the exercise too. I really appreciate it. Jodi, I hope to some day be happy looking at a photo of myself, but not yet. Yours look great. I am still hovering in the low 240's. But I only have myself to blame. Had a crappy day yesterday and as usual turned to food for comfort. Good news is I only ate half of what I usually eat and my weight didn't go up this morning. But I have to get out of the mindset that food will make it all better. It doesn't -- in fact the hot wings gave me indigestion, so not real comforting! Hope you all have a magnificent day! |

Good morning everyone! April, congratulations on the pregnancy! Wishing you the best of everything. Penny, glad your hubby is doing better. Men aren't very patient and therefore don't make good patients, but it sounds like you are keeping him on track. Good for you! And still getting in your exercise. Yay you! Jodi, I loved your story about the lady on the bike. When I go walking on the bridge with my co-workers, I used to worry about what people would think. I am bigger than all of them. Actually we took a picture the other day and I believe all three of them could have stood in front of me and I would have still been visible. I worried what people would think about the fat chick walking with the skinny ones. But then, I realized, I don't care. I don't know them and I don't care what they think. At least I am out here trying. And what's really funny is one of my skinny friends can't keep up with me. I can walk faster and longer. She is always asking me to slow down so she can catch her breath. (I admit I don't mind slowing up some. I had been stuck for the last couple of months at 248-250, so I decided to increase my exercise. I have been walking 2.5 miles almost every morning and riding my exercise bike for an hour almost every night. Then, I got really crazy. We have comcast and on their "on demand" programs they have a fitness section. I started doing the Jillian Michaels' 30-day Shred. Holy Moly! The first day, I thought I was going to die after the warm up, but managed to hang in for the whole thing. I am now up to day 5 and I know it should be easier, but not so much! I have never done crunches in my life. Who knew there were so many muscles to hurt? But the good news is, when I weighed this morning it was 242.4! Finally some downward movement. Don't know if I'll be able to do the whole 30 days, but I am going to try. Good luck to everyone!

Well the weekend is almost over and time to start a new work week. And a new week of eating better and exercising more, I hope. Amandie, thanks, my knee is better today. I have to ice it often, but that seems to help. Walked this morning for 2.5 miles and plan on riding the exercise bike later. I too understand the public thing, but I have gotten better about it. At first, I would only walk in the early morning hours (5:00 a.m.) before others were out. Now, I still walk in the early morning hours but because this is FL and it's cooler then. Plus I do like the quiet as it gives me time to think. But I also get out after work and walk across this long bridge in town with my co-workers and there are a lot of other people out walking, jogging, biking, etc. On Saturday, I even walked across the bridge at high noon, all by myself. (Not my smartest idea this weekend as it was 95 degrees outside, but I made it.) I don't know if I could be in an exercise class though, because then I would feel like everyone was watching me. But that is mainly because I am not the most coordinated person and would probably hurt someone. Jodi, I have started doing hand weights while I ride the bike. I haven't gotten resistance bands yet, but plan to soon. I need something to jump start the weight drop again. I am hanging in there, but not losing as much as I'd like. I think you should go for the yoga class. You can jog on a treadmill, so you are a lot more coordinated than I am. You can do it. |

Good evening everyone! Kim and Theresa, welcome to the group. You have found a very supportive and motivating group of people. I think you will like it here. Amandie, baby steps are the best, I believe. Good for you on doing the lunges/squats. Sounds like you are doing great. Bonnie, you are right, hang in there, it's possible. Glad your weight is moving downward again. It is so hard to stay motivated when you are doing everything right and the stupid scale doesn't move. But you were able to maintain and not gain during that time, so that is great. Jodi, glad you are feeling better and more back on track. I am going to have to try the strength training. I am walking every day and biking every night and the weight is not dropping off like I hoped. It's not going up, which is good, but I thought for sure I would have dropped a pound or two. Walked twice today instead of riding the bike. I was going to ride the bike later but my left knee is aching so I think I'll just go ice it instead. Hope you all have a great evening! Gracie |

Good morning everyone! Bonnie, sounds like you had a great birthday. Big family trip to Europe sounds fantastic. Good for you. I love your "Do not give up before the miracle!" I printed that out and hung it in my office to help me stay motivated. Jodi, welcome back! That is good you got to spend time with your grandfather. I am sure he appreciated it more than you can know. And good for your children too. Hope your job interview went okay (if you decided it was something you wanted). Amandie, those are great goals. I sometimes forget about the water, and I know it is very important. Being armed with a menu plan is also a very smart thing. I need to do that. Otherwise, that's when my mindless eating takes over. Chamber_lanes, I didn't realize Wii had a weight limit, but my daughter told me that it announced your weight out loud to whoever was in the room, so that's been a deterrent for me! April, that is a good idea about the water aerobics. I am thinking of looking into that as my knees give me a fit if I overdo it in day. Palmettoflipflop, welcome back too! It was getting sort of lonely around here. It is always good when the children go back to school and you can return to some type of normal routine. Good for you on quitting soda. Wish I could say the same. I have started drinking Coke Zero on some days, but I really love my regular Coke. When I go out to eat though I have gotten much better about ordering either tea or water. That has to help since I was up to about 4 sodas a day. I am doing okay with the exercise so far this week. Hope I can keep it up and hopefully I can get the eating under control. Good luck everyone! Happy Sunday everyone! Katie, I know what you mean about eating until you are completely full but then feeling very sick afterwards. We have a favorite Thai restaurant that we go to for lunch and I would eat everything on the plate and then be miserable all afternoon. Now, when we go, I divide out some of the food (not to half yet, but I am getting there) and only eat what I have portioned out. I am full all afternoon, but not sick and hurting. I am trying to be more aware of what I am eating each day. I can finish off a bag of chips or some cookies without realizing it. So, I have tried taking out however many I allow myself to eat and then put the bag away. I still catch myself looking down thinking there has to be another cookie or chip left, but I've eaten them all, but this way they are counted and posted in my calorie log. I have an exercise goal of doing some type of purposeful exercise every day and last week was the first time I achieved it! I actually exercised twice a day for 6 of 7 days too. Hope I can do the same this coming week. Hope you all have a great day! Gracie

Good evening everyone! Welcome to the group to amandief, aprilj79 and chamber_lanes! This is a great group, very supportive and motivating. My goal for this week is to walk every morning and ride my exercise bike every evening. So far, so good. I had the same goal last week, but missed Wednesday and Friday. I just want to do "purposeful" exercise every day. Even if I don't walk and ride every day, as long as I do one or other I'll be happy. Still hanging in there at 248 today. I am jsut happy I haven't gone back over 250, especially with my birthday last week. Hope you all have a wonderful evening. Gracie |

Good morning everyone! Jodi, hope you have a great time on your vacation. I have learned to take grapes and watermelon on my road trips. They are healthier and actually taste better than the usual chips and cookies. I understand about the bored eating. I have been known to go through an entire bag of chips without even realizing it. It's just mindless eating. Change of routine sounds like a great thing! Heidijb, welcome to the group. This is a very supportive group of people. I think you will like it here. When I first started exercising the only way I could do it was to get up an hour before I had to leave for work and walk. If I tried to wait until after work, I would always come up with excuses, too tired, too busy, too something. Now, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I am still getting up before work and walking, but I moved my exercise bike in to my room so I could watch tv shows I've recorded while riding the bike. So far, (fingers crossed) that seems to be working. Instead of vegging out in front of the tv, I am exercising! Even with the extra exercise, this is probably not going to be the best week for me. It's my birthday week. My birthday is Thursday (8/13) and I have plans everyday of the week for lunch celebrations with various friends. Yesterday was pizza -- not good. Then, of course on Thursday my family is taking me out to dinner. So far, I haven't gained any, just maintaining. I am happy with that. :) Wishing everyone a healthy and happy day! Gracie |

Good evening everyone. Hope you all had a nice weekend. I am so not ready to go back to work, but I do like living in a house and the job helps with that. :) Leelee, I am working on my husband, trying to get him to agree to a cruise. My daughter and son-in-law are hooked on them. She said the same thing, that there are so many activities you don't notice the food. Of course, she's young and slim. I always notice the food. lol I have been on a plateau for a while now and am just starting to drop again. I have decided to mix it up a little. I am going to try to walk every morning before work and then ride the stationary bike every night after work. I moved the bike to my bedroom where I could watch the tv shows I've recorded as I ride the bike. I hope this will keep me motivated to exercise more. I did good this weekend, hope I can keep it up through the week. This morning I was at 247.4 and I am ready to keep dropping through the 40's to the next "decade." I was having trouble bouncing up above 250, but (knock on wood) haven't done that this week. Hope everyone has a happy and healthy week. Gracie |

I am now at 247.6, so I happily don't qualify anymore. :) And I am going to try desperately to keep it that way! Jodi, hope your house is back to normal. And Bonnie is right, you are a supermom. Bonnie, congratulations on completing the P90X. That is amazing. You go girl! Leelee, congratulations on losing weight on a cruise. I really want to go on a cruise, but I have a deathly fear of the all you can eat buffet. I don't think I would ever leave it. Martoon, your pictures look great. Keep up whatever you are doing, it's working. Penny, how is your hubby doing? Hope the rehab is working and he's moving about easily now. Hope you are able to get some swimming in too as I know how much you enjoy it. Hope you all have a great weekend! Gracie |

Hi everybody, Jodi, sorry you're having car problems. That can be so frustrating. I also chew the extra sugar free gum. I find myself taking a stick out of the pack almost like some people smoke cigarettes. lol My favorite is the fruit flavors -- watermelon and the strawberry/banana. They are just sweet enough to cut my craving for a snack. Penny, hope your hubby is recovering nicely. I hope you are right about chewing gum helping tone up the muscles in the face & neck. I am chewing a lot now and I'll take toning wherever I can get it. :) Call-me-fluffy, welcome to the group. This is a great group of people -- very supportive and motivating. Hope you like it here. Good morning! Hope everyone is hanging in there and having a great weekend. Went out with my daughter and her best friend Friday night for a girls night out. It was a lot of fun. Plus I was pleased they didn't mind hanging out with an old lady. :) Then, I was a total slug on Saturday. Didn't exercise at all. Didn't eat that bad, but barely moved off the couch. Today is cloudy, but I did manage to get up and walk 3 miles early this morning. Now, I just want to curl up with a good book and hope for rain. Bonnie, hope you're having a great time touring your show and getting ready for Europe. I also agree with you, I hate the word "obese." I can't wait until I'm just "overweight." lol Like you say -- just keep coming back! Jodi, sounds like you are a great mom who knows how to handle any fiasco and turn it into a positive -- air matress in front of the tv, chillin in your pjs makes for great memories. Take care everyone and be as kind to yourself as you would be to others. Gracie |

Good morning everyone! Penny, sounds like quite the ordeal at the hospital, but glad to hear hubby is home and recuperating. You sound like a wonderful nurse. Hope things keep moving along and he gets in rehab and you are all soon dancing the night away again! Jodi, sorry to hear you are down in the dumps. I think you could be right - a lot of it is related to your grandmother passing. You were very close and that has to be a huge emotional toll on you. Just be kind to yourself and you will get back where you need to be. You have worked very hard to get to "onderland" and you seem to have the right mindset to not let it slip away. Hugs! I have finally gotten below 250 again (248.2) and have managed to hold steady there for 3 days, so hoping it's sticking. Now I just have to rev myself up to keep on going down. Bonnie & Martoon, where are you guys? Bonnie is probably off doing something exciting and fun. Martoon is a young & handsome guy, so maybe I shouldn't ask. lol Hope everyone has a great day. Gracie P.S. Oreos should have stolen the Lay's Potato Chip slogan - no one can eat just one! |

Jodi, sorry to hear about your grandma. Bonnie is right though, you wrote a beautiful tribute to her and she was obviously very loved. Bonnie, sounds like you've had a busy week. And you are doing great with the weight loss - 12 pounds and 10 inches! Way to go! I am hanging in here. Not losing any weight, but not really gaining, so that's good. Just stuck. I am going to have to get serious with the food, because I have been doing good on the exercise and that's obviously not enough. I was at 251.6 on Thursday. On Thursday, I rode my exercise bike for an hour - 20 miles, which might not be as fast as some, but I was huffing & puffing. Then that afternoon I walked 3 miles in 45 minutes (across my bridge) with some friends. It was 95 degrees here when we walked so I definitely worked up a sweat. This morning I weighed 252.2! I didn't eat that bad yesterday, so I'm not sure what accounts for that. Arrgghh! Very frustrating, but I am not going to let it get me down. Hope you all have a nice and peaceful weekend. Gracie |

Not doing great with the food (but not awful either), but I am kicking butt on the exercise and it doesn't seem to matter. Yesterday, I rode my exercise bike for an hour in the morning for 20 miles - might not be as fast as some, but I sure worked up a sweat. Then yesterday afternoon, I walked for 3 miles in 45 minutes (in 95 degree heat I might add, so I certainly worked up a sweat). And this morning, after being 251.6 on Thursday, I was back to 252.2. Happy Friday everyone! Jodi, hope you have a nice weekend getaway. Camping sounds like lots of fun, except in FL you'd either die from the heat or the bugs. :) I have been carrying an Omron pedometer in my pocket for the last few months and it amazes me at how much walking I get in during a day (or how little, depending on the day). But, I know what you mean about purposeful exercise. Even though I am walking during the day much more than I used to, I still find it hard to think of it as exercise unless it's done during a set period of time. Bonnie, you are amazing. I've watched the P90X infomercials when I'm riding my bike in the morning (I like to see other people sweat & suffer while I am - misery loves company) and they are brutal. I'll bet your muscles are sore. Good for you at keeping it up. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Gracie |

Good morning everyone! Well, I didn't totally blow it over the Fourth of July weekend. I am still hovering at 250. I didn't get to exercise while my stepson was visiting, but we were on the go most of the time, so I think that helped. But as of Monday morning, I was back on the bike. Jodi, I don't think you could ever count yourself as sedentary with three children ages 3, 5 & 7. lol Sorry to hear about your fender bender, but glad everyone was okay. Congratulations on being close to 189. Tell 189 that I plan on seeing him someday too. I'm just taking the scenic route. Penny, good luck with your hubby's knee surgery. As Jodi said, I'm sure he'll be fine, but if he's anything like my husband, he will be an impatient patient. They can be such babies. Leelee, your cruise sounds like fun. I am trying to talk my husband into going on one, but he isn't thrilled about it. He doesn't want to be "stuck" on a boat with a bunch of people he doesn't know. My daughter & son-in-law took the Bahamas cruise and loved it. They are helping me work on my husband. lol Craazyquilt, welcome to the group. We have the same birthday, August 13! I started off at 295 in October, 2008, and have made it down to 250ish. I fluctuate between 248 and 253, but hope to be over this plateau soon. It helped me to look at my weight loss in 10 pound increments or "decades" as my daughter & I call them. I hope to be in a new decade soon. Bonnie, love your profile picture. It looks fun, like you. :) Thank you all for the constant words of encouragment as I struggle to get off this stupid plateau. You all are what keep me going! Hope everyone has a great day! Gracie |
