| Maintaining | I'm embarrassed to even ask this.... | Nov 14 2008 01:50 (UTC) |

Ah Ha! Got it! I have a tendency of binging out also and HATE IT!!! That is where I'll get in trouble, hence the reason for my concern about my intake. I could tell, based on my insatiable cravings, that I was lacking. Today at the grocery store I literally had to talk myself out of SO MANY yummy baked goods. It's the refined carbs that I'm wanting. Cakes, cookies, brownies, ALL OF IT! Not good for maintenance or training. And since I can't stop at one cookie, I can't have any. Thanks again for your help and keep up your good work! You look great! |

| Fitness | Im going to run the Disney princess half marathon in March!! | Nov 13 2008 18:33 (UTC) |

So, because I had never run more then 5.5 consecutive miles, and have this Princess half looming ahead, I decided to try a 15k this past weekend. My plan was to go EASY, SLOWLY and just run it.....like my husband said "Don't RACE it, just RUN it!". I nailed it......Ran 9.3 miles in 1:38 minutes and felt freaking fabulous!!!! Granted, most people run a half in that time but I'm just looking to finish it....not win it. We all get the medal regardless of where we come it. And, my new mantra is, "Dead last finish is greater than Did Not Finish which greatly triumps Did Not Start." I now have the confidence and knowledge that I CAN DO THIS!!!! So instead of being anxious and nervous for March 8th, I'm super excited and counting down the hours!!! Just going to continue to work at my distance and increase my speed...See you all there!!!! |

I have been having this same issue with trail mix lately. I never even ate it before and started buying it for my kids to have as a "take and go snack". So much better then the empty calorie "fishies" or other junky pre-pack stuff. Anyway, it smelled really yummy to me and before I knew it, I was pouring handfuls of the stuff for myself. I actually have to "hide" it on myself. And since I'm barely 5'1".....the top shelves of the pantry are a good spot. So, yes, I totally relate to this. And want some RIGHT NOW!!! |

Thanks guys for your advice on this! I appreciate it! k-loo, I find myself wanting to binge horribly also. That is what clued me into the fact that I increased my activity but not my intake......hmmmmm, not a good mix. I'll have to balance this better. Thanks again! k-loo, i just re-read your post. What did you mean when you said that you gain on 1500-1900 calories? (edited: to clarify) |

I always do. My eyes are very sun sensitive. Plus, the glasses block the wind which makes me tear up. Nothing more annoying then tears streaming down your face in the freezing cold. Chafed (sp?) cheeks are not pretty. |

| Foods | Halloween Candy - abstain or treat yourself? | Nov 01 2008 12:29 (UTC) |
|
I made a pact with myself for this halloween....NOTHING fun size. So last night we came home from trick or treating (three kids equals LOTS OF FUN SIZES....). I failed....LOL. BUT, I saved my wrappers, logged my treats and was fine with it.....I indulged last night but it's ok because today is today. And tomorrow will be tomorrow. And I "hid" the candy......out of sight, out of mind works well for me. So in a few days when the excitement is gone.....the candy gets a new home.....usually my husbands office. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Anyone have a successful pregnancy after miscarriage? | Nov 01 2008 12:21 (UTC) |
13 |
Hi Heartwillforever..... Let me start by saying, I am so sorry.....My heart broke when I read your post. This happened to me with my third pregnancy. I miscarried at 13 weeks and it was by far the most devastating thing to happen to our family. We had made it a "family pregnancy". My other two children took turns on a daily basis "giving the baby his/her vitamin". (My prenatal). I also had to have a D & C and then sent home to mourn the loss of our baby. Like Scarappo posted, I was utterly crushed. The bond had been formed with the positive result of the pregnancy test and then had 13 weeks to grow. It was horrible. BUT.......We started trying right away with our Dr.'s ok and 6 months later became pregnant with our two year old.....(although each and every month until then was a waiting game.) My pregnancy was picture perfect so yes, it does and WILL happen. Sometimes God has bigger and better plans for the baby's he takes from us. We talk about our "angel baby" ALL THE TIME. And although I will forever mourn our baby, I know God is holding him/her until we can meet again......Take care...things do get easier.

I've been pouring over this book since I got it last week and am SO excited to start. I've been strength training for for quite a while now and would love to spice it up with this new routine. ALTHOUGH, and I am terribly embarrassed to even admit this, I am SOOOO CONFUSED as to the charts, sessions, sets (a1, b2....). Since you ladies seem to be enjoying the workout, maybe you can shed some light on this? I'm probably just making it much harder then need be. |

I always pack baggies of sweet cereal. Like for instance, I would never eat Fruit Loops for breakfast, but use it for snacks. It's sweet, but also fortified. So I feel better knowing I'm getting some nutritional value. I've also packed Kix and that LesserEvil Kettle Corn. Have Fun!! |

I get this ALL the time. And it's so ridiculous. I actually started to doubt myself since I was getting so much negative feedback. After losing 40 pounds, the right way with diet, exercise and CC, I went to both my OB/GYN and primary care physician. My OB/GYN appt for for my annual visit in which he APPLAUDED me for my newfound health. And also mentioned that I was what the American people should look like.....we are just so used to "plump" that I'm viewed as unhealthy. As far as my primary care, I wanted proof that I was "OK". I had a total body physical, including bloodwork. Everything came back almost perfect. The only thing I had to work on was raising my good cholesterol which happens with exercise. I feel good, I look good and I am ok with people not agreeing. My only wish is to have a nice, but to the point comeback for when people feel the need to "express their concern". I certainly don't mean rude, because some of these people are my friends and family. Just a quippy, witty statement to put them back in their place. Any of you fellow "skinny and sick people" have a good line?

I actually figure it into my cc for the day. I use cereal as my snack at night while reading or watching tv. Heck of alot better then ice cream , or candy. Although its high in sugar, most is fortified with vitamins and minerals. Two cups of fruit loops for instance (which I eat dry) is only 220 calories with a boat load of goodies added in. It even gets an A grade. I even smuggle it into the movie theatre!!! |

Wow....I am completely floored by all of your advice! Scaroppo....it's like you really know me!!! You read right into my fear. All in all, Benjamin is back to being his healthy normal 18 month old self....in which I have to chase! That is the true success in this story. Secondly, yes, I am nervous about the change of my routine. Especially since I am registered for the Disney Princess Half Marathon in March. And being a "newbie" at this exercise stuff, I forget that there are many other things I can do. Swimming sounds great and the Y has a terrific pool. And Tina_4792, I have been curious about the Yoga classes they offer. So thanks guys!!! BTW....I have noticed a decrease in my appetite since my "hiatus" began. I think this is going to be fine. Tomorrow I'm going to do some light strength training, and possibly swim. I'm actually looking forward to a change....although running is my true passion. |

| Foods | sweet potatoes? | Jul 24 2008 01:41 (UTC) |

I LOVE sweet potatoes also but am finding that because my grocery store only offers HUGE HUGE HUGE ones, the cc of one of mine can be as high as 360 calories!!! Great nutrition but it blows my meal out of my range. My potatoes always weigh in at over 360 grams.....! Does anyone know if I can cut them in half and store for the next day? I worry about oxidation like with apples and/or bananas. |

Thanks again guys! And you are so right x17star17x, when I splurge, my weight the next morning is consistantly 2 lbs heavier. But back to normal the next day. I still so new at this and have yet to fall into my "groove". Still love CC. |

I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER!!! Thanks for the hugs and uplifting words! I really cannot stand to be so hard on myself. It's ridiculous and completely unnecessary. 90% of the time I am maintaining this healthy lifestyle. I need to let myself go. I think it will get easier as time goes on. It's still so new to me that it scares me to think I will "go back"..... I felt really "yukky" for a few days after my "splurge". (Sodium induced, I think....) Which is proof in the pudding that my body really does crave and funtion better when I treat it right. Since getting back on track, I feel myself again. Thanks guys..... |

| Calorie Count | Adding a food to the log.... | Jun 30 2008 12:14 (UTC) |

In regards to adding your own nutritional info....does anyone know if it is possible to change the serving sizes of those "hand entered" foods? For example, I entered the info for a particular wrap but noticed that even when I changed the grams to indicate I was only having half, the nutritional values did not reflect that. Anyone have any ideas? |

Just what I was looking for jpeterson!!! Thank you! The guilt is horrible. You know the funny thing? I woke up this morning feeling physically disgusting. Like I was hung over or something. The sodium from my meal completely dehydrated me. Are "food hangover's" possible? I'll tell you, it was almost, note I said "almost", not worth it. Thanks for the pep talk. Another reason I love this website. |

I really love your outlook on CC and the "healthy lifestyle" attitude, joyrae! It is exactly how I feel although something that many people do not understand. I really do not deny myself, I am just extremely conscience of my food choices and the portion sizes. In addition, my running 3x per week has introduced me to a hobby that I truly LOVE. So, besides being in the best shape of my 33 years and feeling GREAT, I love the control I have over my life. I DO NOT want to gain back 45 lbs and the only way that I will be able to maintain this is to CC and MOVE my body! People look at me so accusatory when they ask me how I "did it"....when I tell them "good old fashioned diet and exercise", you can tell they just don't believe it. Everyone wants the simple easy "secret"......well, we've found it and it's they only true way. Addiction or not, it's free, it's healthy and there are certainly MUCH WORSE addictions to have. |

Hi guys.....I am giggling to myself because I think you are both misunderstanding what I am asking. ewwxrolflzz, I had a typo on that last one. Yes, it is TBSP, not TSP. But even still, why when I log air popped popcorn into my food list for the day, does one cup come up as 30 calories instead of 15 like stated on the jar? Why does CC and other calorie counting websites basically double the calories for the same serving size? Like I said, Orville Redenbacher's nutritional info states one cup of POPPED corn is 15 calories. It's not an issue regarding the popping process, exothermic reactions or microwave popcorn comparisons....just purely a mathematic question. |

Actually Jonas, it's referring to the popped corn. It actually says on the jar "1 cup of air-popped corn - 15 calories". The unpopped kernels are listed as "3 tsp of un-popped corn - 120 calories". See why I am confused? There is no microwave involved. This is purely air-popping. Thanks for your reply! |

Hi! Can I join? I'm Heather, 33 yo, SAHM to three, 6, 5 and 16 months. Over the last 6 months I have lost 40 lbs bringing me to 117. I am 5'1" and would like to maintain between 115 and 120. So as of now, I am accomplishing my goal. CC has helped me continue to maintain by giving me the knowledge and information that I am finding interesting, imperative and AWESOME!!! In February, I starting exercising for the first time in my life. (Which also helps the maintenance). I joined the local YMCA and go M, W, and F. I do thirty minutes of strength training (loving my new muscles!!!) and between three and four miles of jogging (which I LOVE)!!! In fact, I have been very involved with 5k's and more. (I did 8 miles three weeks ago). They say everyone has a "knack" for something, I think I found mine. Don't get me wrong, there are somedays that I am wondering WTF I am doing as I drag myself around the fitness track, but when it's all over, I FEEL PHENOMENAL!!!! Being pregnant and/or breastfeeding for the last 7 years (seems like forever) really took it's toll on my body. Although it will never be that same, I am enjoying finally doing something SOLEY for ME....(you Mom's understand). I feel healthy, have the energy I need to be the best Mom I can and look great. My husband is not complaining about that! So, I LOVE CC!!! And would love to make some new friends that share this interest! Great thread idea!!!!! |

Hi Peaches. I feel the same way! I'm assuming that the more accustomed I get to this healthy lifestyle, ie: portion sizes, better snack choices, the "OCD" will fade. But I do have to admit, it's exhausting.
Part of my problem is all the positive feedback regarding my 45 lbs weight loss. It petrifies me to gain back what I worked so hard to lose. And the GUILT!!!! Don't even get me started.......it's absurd. I am really hard on myself. In which produces the "denial of food=desire of food" issue. My cravings are worse now then ever before. |
