Sorry, to recap, it makes no sense to only take 500 mg, as it will produce no results. Go back to the prescribed dosage, but request the extended release and watch your sugar and carb intakes for the first two weeks. After that, you should feel better. :-) |

Metformin shows no clinical effectiveness in women with PCOS under 1000mg. Are you taking ER or the regular metformin. I had an awful upset stomach for nine months after starting metformin, but only for two weeks and then never, when I took the Extended Release. Also, try to stay away from white carbs (like sugar, white bread, etc). Those will upset your stomach. Try getting your sugar in whole fruit form or agave nectar. Try foods that are low on the glycemic index, too. I know it sucks to find a whole new way to eat, but it does get better! I promise! |

This may seem like an awful question, but has your husband been tested? If you are having regular periods, you are probably ovulating again. My husband and I tried for a year and a half and finally saw a fertility specialist. Turns out, despite PCOS, my body was working ok (I am on 1000-1500mg metformin ER), but my husband needed to see a urologist. I know how hard it is to have PCOS and be trying for a baby and have it continually not work. But, it might not be you and it may be fixable for him. If it is not him, try this book: TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR FERTILITY (10th Anniversary Edition). Copyright © 2006 by Toni Weschler. It is one of the best to determine your exact time of ovulation. It may take more than a couple of cycles, but it should help! Don't give up! :-) |

Hi Fuelqueen, I actually don't drink alcohol, because of the whole trying to concieve thing, but it makes sense. I have cut down on cheese, because of my cholestorol, but will try it in small doses. I take in between 1500-1700 and burn around 2300, according to the burn meter. I actually already took the pound back off and am back down to 143, but am still concerned for the future. I am totally looking into the Agave nexter stuff! Thanks so much and good luck to you too! :-) -J |

| Health & Support | Esophageal spasms that feel like a heart attack | May 27 2008 18:26 (UTC) |

| I had this this past winter. I was told it was something like that. The nurse told me to take Maylox, but it didn't help much. Are you under alot of stress? That was my problem. I went on vacation over Christmas, and, when I came back (nice and relaxed), the pains stopped. But it was pretty intense and mimicked heart trouble. They were along my left side and under my breast bone right around my heart. I would just sit on the couch and cry, until they went away.
The other thing it could be is a panic attack from the hypervenalating point of view. Panic attacks can feel like a massive heart attack. You should see a doctor about that and maybe they can prescribe you ativan for the bad attacks. Also, take note of how your body feels leading up to the pain. Are there any noticable signs that the pain is coming? These can help you stay calm and try to incorporate relaxation responses, when you start feeling this way. Remember, if it is panic, you often cannot tell what the mental cause is. They tend to just come on. But if you pay attention to your body, you can tell when they are coming and lessen your response. |

Ahahaha...I always wondered that myself. What is it they are doing that I am doing wrong? It is hard to see it when you and most people you know have been trying for months (some for years!). A friend once told me - "stop trying, drink a bottle of tequila, and have random crazy sex. The next day, you will see a pink plus sign!" ;-P But anyway... Thanks! |

Almost every woman bloats (i.e. - retains water) during the week of PMS and shortly into her period. You can even go up a pants size that week. It comes off the week after. I wouldn't worry yourself. |

You are in luck, because the Europeans tend not to use the same preservatives and additives in their foods than Americans. Also, their food is pretty simple and fresh. Additionally, they don't tend to eat as much or as often as we do here. I would not worry too much. We have a weight problem in this country, because all of our food is filled with sugars in the form of high fructose corn syrup, etc. Unprocessed foods tend to help your body feel fuller sooner and are better for it. Do you ever notice there aren't very many fat french women? They eat like your hosts all the time. Just keep a positive attitude and remember, everything in moderation. Additionally, try walking everywhere, to make up for the gym. It does do wonders. Also, try Yoga at home. I am sure you can find a book somewhere and use it to guide yourself, to help tone up. Good luck! I envy you living in Paris and all! |

| Weight Gain | losing battle w/ parents | May 05 2008 17:50 (UTC) |

I am not sure what to say. There are many people in life who will not be happy for you, when you try to make a positive change. It is not that they don't love you, it is just that it is hard for them to adapt to your change. Gaining weight in an unhealthy way is very dangerous. I would sit down with your mother and maybe show her some articles on the danger of high fat and refined foods. Often times, and I am not sure this is your case, these types of foods are cheaper to obtain and prepare, especially for large families, who do not have a whole lot of money. She may feel that you are rejecting the way your family lives and take it personally. You need to help her to understand that you are not looking down on her or your family. You just care about your health and well-being and hope she will support you. See if you can include your family in this new dietary lifestyle. White bread and chips are not healthy. YOU ARE NOT a hypocrit and they know that. They are just scared of your change. Positive communication is my recommendation. Educating them are to the benefits of healthy eating is great ammunition. Once they realize how you feel and why, they may be more accepting. Fights are not good, as it turns into a battle of who is right and who is wrong and the issue at hand never gets addressed. |

| Foods | Wisdom Teeth Out What to Eat!? | Apr 30 2008 16:04 (UTC) |

Good luck! I had mine out last October. It is hard to eat, because your face is all swollen and it is hard to get your jaw open. Also, you want to keep food away from your incisions (to avoid dry socket). The first few days I could barely eat anything. I wouldn't worry about it screwing up your body. If you can't eat you can't eat and one day isn't going to set you back. Dunkin Donuts smoothies helped. I couldn't use the straw (dry socket again), but could open my mouth enough to get it down. Also, squash, mashed potatoes, pastina, eggs, etc, worked after a few days. I couldn't do the ice cream the first few days, because I couldn't chew. So, my advice, go with liquidy solids. Things you almost don't have to use your teeth for. After the first day, you want to try to eat, because the pain killers will make you puke, if you don't have enough food in your stomach. Think baby food consistancy. You will know when you feel ready for solid foods again. |

It's weird. You have to find them in the forum and then click on their name. It will then and only then give you the option to add them. I don't know why it is not easier. |
