| The Lounge | Does age matter? | Nov 24 2009 09:49 (UTC) |

My partner turned 50 this year, I am 37 and the age gap has never been a problem between us. He does not look (or act) his age, people are amazed when they find out. We are now at a stage of thinking about babies, but the thought of a 50 year old father does bother me slightly. My friend at school had an older father (55 when she was born) and she had a hard time with people assuming that he was her grandfather. But I love the guy so I'm not going anywhere. |

I can't seem any harm in asking. If that is your top budget what else can you do? If he can afford to hang on for an extra 500 then that's up to him. |

I have a 2005 Black V5 Sport beetle and I absolutely love it. I have had no problems with it at all, but I do low mileage (it's just gone over 21,000). |

Hi, Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will chip in but basically you are not eating enough. Have you used the tools on this site to gauge how much you need to eat per day? 1500 cals per day is a minimum for a man and it depends on your height and current weight as to how much you need. Eat more if you are excercising as your body needs it to keep your organs and muscles going. It seems strange but eating more can actually help you to lose weight because your metabolism shuts down if you don't eat enough, or worse still it will start using your organs for fuel instead. As for the black spots - again no expert, but could it be toxins coming out as blackheads? Hopefully this should pass as your body gets used to a healthier diet. Good luck |

Do you ever wear glasses around the kitten? I have noticed that my cats don't like it when I wear glasses or when people wearing glasses come into the house. They run away - I think it's to do with the reflection or the fact that it magnifies their eyes and looks threatening. Just a thought. I have 2 cats, one of which runs away if I try to pick her up but has started to come to me if I sit still and basically ignore her. She will sit on my lap for a long time now whereas a few months ago (when we got her from the RSPCA) she wouldn't. I think it's going to take patience and you may have to accept that she is happy as she is and is not a cuddly cat - or she may just be a bit scared at the moment. She will develop her own personality as she grows, just like us all! Are you planning on both cats living together at any time? |

I would recommend a cat too. My 14 year old cat passed away in March and I have just got 2 RSPCA cats who are 4 and 10 years old. I work full time so they spend the day on their own. I have owned 6 cats in total over the years and all have been outdoor cats using a cat flap to let themselves in and out. As they got older they spent less time outdoors but still went out to have a look about - there was no way any of them would be house cats, the pull of the outdoors was too much for them. I do keep them in at night though, for 2 reasons: 1. So I know where they are and don't worry about them getting run over. 2. I was told that most small birds are caught in the early hours as dark mornings provides good cover for predators. Rescue cats (3 of my 6 have been) are the way to go but see if you can find out as much about them before you get them and get into a routine with them as soon as you can - they are creatures of habit. All my cats have loved having a routine and were put out if it differed - although I have often wondered who decided on the routine, me or them! |

I stopped taking Cerazette on 28th July 09 after being on one brand or another for 20 years without a break. My first period started on 28th Aug - amazing. However I did get very sore nipples for 1 week before my period started and I had a week where I burst into tears at nothing and everything. I have also noticed that my weight fluctuates more now than when I was taking it. I am expecting it to take about 6 months to fully settle down. |

I have just adopted 2 rescue cats. Max is 4 and Isobell is 10. Their previous owner's marriage broke up and she went to live in South Africa for 3 months and couldn't keep them! The rescue centre were amazed that we would take on a 10 year old cat because most people won't, but she is so cute and friendly, and who knows she may well have another 10 years in her. |

I think it could be the effects of coming off the pill. I stopped taking the BC pill on 28th July after being on one brand or another for almost 20 years. I had 2 weeks of sore nipples and a week of bursting into tears for no apparent reason. I would give it a bit more time before you start to worry too much (and worrying in itself can cause your cycle to mess up). Best of luck |

My cats used to love the airing cupboard. Second shelf in with the towels, all warm and snuggly. I just had to remember to leave the door open a tiny bit. My friend had a camper van and their cat used to get in there and sleep. One day they went away in it not knowing that he was still in there until they got to where they were going. From then on he went on holiday with them in the van - he loved it. I would be too scared that he would get out and not come back but he always did. |

| The Lounge | Traveling to Paris/London for 2 weeks. Any health-related advice? | Jul 16 2009 09:37 (UTC) |

La Defense in Paris is worth visit as something slightly different. It is at the other end of Le Champs Elysees to the Arc De Triomphe and has Le Grande Arche which is a modern take on the Arc De Triomphe. It is a business district but has many modern art sculptures mixed in amongst amazing buildings. Even though it is in the middle of Paris I remember it being a very quiet part of the city with big open spaces and a slightly surreal feel to it. In London the Victoria and Albert museum is a good one to see |

Wow, fantastic that you have something that great to look forward to. Hope it's everything you want it to be. My answers are: How long since your last vacation? 18 months (Portugal) Do you prefer warm or cool destinations? Warm Best vacation and why? Paris 1990 - La Defense Jean Michelle Jarre concert - amazing! Unbelievably 19 years ago to the day! How time flies. Worst vacation and why? Camping on the Isle of White - it rained all week. Anywhere you want, what location would you choose for vacation? Italy, not fussy where exactly On vacation, do you diet or splurge? Bit of both Currently would you prefer vacation as relax/chill or fun/excitement? Relax/chill - a get away from it all and wind down holiday

I would be very interested to see the results you get. My boyfriend's sister is Downs and her weight is high too. She is 43 years old, 4'4" and 125lbs (obese). She has bad psoriasis which affects her mobility due to sore skin rubbing together. She carries the majority of her weight around her middle and backside. She hardly eats any quantity of food but I'm not sure her mother is very good with the type of food she gives her. Maybe low carb would be worth suggesting to her. Good luck and if you don't mind letting me know how you get on I would be very grateful. |

| The Lounge | What do you do when your cat brings home a baby bird? | Jul 08 2009 14:23 (UTC) |
5 |
I was told that most birds are caught by cats in the early hours of the morning. So I kept my cat in at night - that seemed to work. He only brought in mice after that. He did bring in some strange things in his younger years though - a dead woodpecker, a half sized bread baguette (no idea how he got it through the catflap), a pair of rolled up yellow socks and a bat. The bat was still alive so I took it to the vets who superglued the holes in it's wings back together and gave it back to us to release. Might be worth keeping her in at night and getting a bell on her collar. |

My Mum uses the spray and it seems to work for her. It may be a short term solution for you to try, however I think there are underlying health problems with your husband that need to be looked into rather than masked over. So, I'm afraid I am with the consensus here, he needs to get a professional check done. It's time he takes responsibility for his own health. Best of luck. |

Oh, sorry to hear that. But at least it looks like he is going to be OK, apart from the new peeing method. Are you able to visit him at the vets before you are allowed to take him home? I know I was allowed to go and see my cat when he was in for an op and monitoring - it helped me not to miss him too much. Sucks about the bill - vets know how to charge don't they, but worth it for your pets sake. Thanks for the update, I've been checking in all day wondering how you were doing.

I'm pretty sure most English people don't know what baby showers are and we certainly don't celebrate the birth before it has happened (bad luck, don't count your chickens before they hatch etc..). I had never heard of 'showers' until I saw 'Friends'. It's your pregnancy so I say do what you and Alex want to do. (edited for clarity) |

Oooh that's exciting. Go for it and have fun. But make sure you eat properly - you want to look your best and have some energy don't you? Sometimes you just gel with someone and you find things to talk about, others it just doesn't happen with. I'm a very shy person so when I meet someone that I can have a good chat with it means a lot. Just enjoy it for what it is and don't rush into anything. |

I think this might be me. If there is a vegetarian option on a menu I will usually take it. I haven't eaten red meat for 15 years but I do eat fish and chicken once or twice a week. My friends say I am veggie which clearly I am not - since when was chicken a vegetable?
