completely normal. i am in my second yr of university, but first yr of my program. last year was the first time i moved away, and for about the first month and ahalf, it was brutal, i wanted to talk to my mom every day, i wanted to go home every wkend, but it got better after that. and same thing this yr. i've been away for about 5 wks now and the first few were really tough (i had a tough first month due to other circumstances) but things are starting to get better now. im not gonna make it home for thanksgiving, which i really wanted to do, but i think im ok with it now. (maybe im just so busy with midterms that i dont have time to think about anything else!!) trust me, it does get better!!

I am friends with more than one guy whose "type" is heavy women.  These guys are, quite simply, attracted to large females.  When I gained weight, one of them approached me and told me I was "lookin' good these days."

Give guys some credit.  Not everyone is attracted to the bobblehead body type shown most often in magazines and on TV.  Not all dudes are meatheads.

Interesting.  This could lead me to divert away from this topic to the topic of "guy friends", but I'll save that one....let me just say that it's sort of a seperate topic..sort of related as I've found that men have an easier time being"friends" with heavier women because they are not attracted to them.  Being attracted to your friend usualy causes problems...dut I digress...

You have to realize I was asking a question, not making a statement.  Maybe I'm not giving guys enough credit...but I AM one...and I know far more than anyone here does (thus far 0-1 male response).  And the advantage I have (probably the only one) over the female contingent in here is that I understand that there are things guys say to you...their "friend" and to you their "significant other"...and then there are things guys say to their male buddies.  I can't go into detail about how much those two things differ (or I'll get kicked out of the guy fraternity) and it does differ from guy to guy...but just know that it is usually a "little" bit different.

I understand the comments from everyone about being "shallow" and everything...I expected that...but realize that if I'm shallow for preferring Paris Hilton to Roseanne Barr...then I'm in a club of about 97% of other guys.  And I guess my question (perhaps worded poorly) was what proportion of that 97% would lie about it and why...

Ok I obviously only read the first few messages in this thread considering theres over 500 now, but just thought i'd put in my two cents. i grew up in an extremely close family with three brothers, no sisters. my brothers shared EVERYTHING. i know things about my brothers that most girls wouldnt want to hear from their sisters, not because their nasty, but because not everyone has that close of a relationship. therefore, i would like to think that i completely understand that while a man might be with a woman "with a little meat on her bones", he probably does think about a thinner woman. that does not in any way mean that he is not attracted to the woman he is with. how many women that are with men with "a little meat" on their bones can honestly say they've never fantasized about brad pitt, or fabio?

you yourself should give men in general a little more credit. i know PLENTY of men who think paris hilton is disgustingly skinny and would MUCH rather be with someone like america ferarra, who is gorgeous and comfortable in her own skin.

i run about a 5:30-6:00 minute km....not sure if thats good or not, but its good enough for me!! when i first started running in march, i was horrible. i started out jogging 30 sec then walking 30 sec. by increasing intervals, i've managed to get up to jogging 3:30 sec at a time. again, maybe not super, but awesome for me!! i have asthma, but i've found jogging has helped alot...i need to get back into it again.

wow you sound EXACTLY like me. do you like veggies? i've always liked them, but since i've been on my own for almost a year now, i've experience more (ones my parents would never buy) for example, i am butternut squash's biggest fan. and suuuuuuper easy. cut it in half, stick it in a container cut side down, put about 2 inches of water in the container, cover with plastic wrap, and nuke for about 6 minutes. soooo delicious on its own too, nothing added. i also love beets (not pickled or anything) just boiled. yummy!! as for not working out, i HATE it so much haha mind ya i'm just starting on my journey, but i have lost ten pounds just eating healthy and checking my weight daily. i know lots of people say thats not good, but it really keeps me on track.

good luck!!

I had $10 on a Wii Fit before it came out and they called me to tell me it was in.  I had heard about the little girl that was told she was obese when she wasn't in the meantiime.  I guess that turned me off and kinda reluctant to have my weight advertised for all in the house to hear!!  lol  That is a private matter!

haha it is suuuuuuuuuuper fun, i love mine too, definitely worth it. as for a little girl being told she's obese, it told my older brother he is obese too but its because it doesnt take into account muscular build, just weight and height. my brother is 6'2 and around 200-220 pounds, but he is by no means fat at all. he is super active and very muscular. imagine our shock when he was 'obese' haha as for myself, i find it very accurate, i get pretty close to the same weight and BMI measurements on my scale and on other calculators. besides, it hides your weight if you want it to, and you can password lock it!! anyways, im getting dance dance revolution: hottest dance party this wkend.

Has anyone got a good workout on that, cuz thats my goal!!

Ohhhhh - I didn't know it hides the weight!!!  Not that it's a big deal, but my hubby always guesses my weight at 100 pounds and I never correct him.  lol  He is 6'2", and I am 5'2.5" so 100 to him is reasonable.  He doesn't NEED to know!

I have Dance Dance and it is pretty boring.  I used it a couple times, but was not impressed.  I got it at the same time I put money down on the Wii Fit.  Maybe I'm just clumsy, but it seemed like I did not get a very good workout at all from that.

hmmm really? well its already paid for so i guess i'll give it a whirl!! i seriously reccommend wii fit though, i know alot of people that have lost weight on it. and like i said, i really like just getting on the board first thing ever morning and seeing the change in weight and BMI (when its down of course haha) motivational (i dont have a scale, lol) good luck finding Wii fit though, i dunno where your at, but im in alberta canada and i've had about 8 people ask me to pick up a copy for them if i can find it, but its NOWHERE!! fallen off the face of the earth....poor little guy

you definitely want to talk to your doctor on that one. I have two brothers who both experience heart palpitations from time to time during high exertion (excerising). one brother has gone for tests, while the other has done nothing. there is also a history or heart problems on both sides of my family. Any history in yours? Like ktcort13 said, it could be nothing, but wouldnt you rather know if its something? good luck!!

Health & Support anyone else anemic or iron deficient? Mar 29 2008

I was officially diagnosed with an iron deciency and mild anemia about a year and a half ago, and have been on iron supplements ever since, and I owe them my life. Before I was diagnosed, i had blackouts about four times a week, had passed out in the shower, going up the stairs, etc, and was constantly dizzy, especially when i hadnt eaten in an hour. Now i take 300mg of over the counter ferrous sulfate daily, and 600mg if i wake up already dizzy. I have experienced no side effects what so ever, and it really has changed my life. Before, I would fall asleep within ten minutes of sitting or laying down. I couldnt even sit to watch a half hour tv show without being asleep. all this sleeping caused me to not sleep at night, which really screwed me up.

Why not try some ferrous sulfate? its really helped me a lot with no negative side effects. good luck!!

thats all good advice. i am a pretty healthy eater, i love fruits and vegetables, and i am fairly active, although i could definitely be more, if i could find the time. right now i go to school full time and work 28 plus hours a week, which makes it hard to have any downtime at all
