| Weight Loss | psyllium husk? | May 30 2008 22:26 (UTC) |
|
Hi.. I take psyllium almost every morning, either in my cereal/oatmeal or in water (kinda gross that way!) It helps with "regularity", I haven't noticed any change with "fullness". It does have what's known as "swell" which means any liquid it is added to virtually disappears. If you add it to water, you will be drinking gelatin! But, as mentioned it does help with the bowels. Just a note of caution, if you start using it, do so slowly and increase your water intake or you may notice a bloating problem. Hope that helps.... |

| Calorie Count | Adding new foods | May 30 2008 22:15 (UTC) |

Hi.. There are 2 ways to add items to your food log, the one on the left uses the data base (that's where you're searching). Look just to the right of that, you can add all the information directly from the product label and name it whatever you want. My advise is tag it so you don't have to go thru the process next time you eat your pretzels! Hope that helps.... |

I don't know if this helps but a while ago I noticed I was getting odd looks from people I know and they seemed to be tuning me out a lot. I realized I was talking a lot about eating healthy and nutritional analysis and whole foods vs processed foods, on and on and on. I got a little obsessed. No one told me, I had to figure it out by myself. Is there a chance that maybe the people at work don't understand your quest to be healthy? You know how some people tend to misjudge when they don't understand someone?? What if you spoke with one person at work that you feel might be honest, and just be forthright? Ask them if you have inadvertently done something to upset your co-workers. Good luck. It's tough when you don't feel comfortable at work. I hope it gets better!

wrap: multi grain wrap, ripe avocado, tons of spinach, soy mayo, and sundried tomatoes (not the oil packed kind) red onions. If you put the spinach on first & wrap carefully the other ingredients don't touch the tortilla, making it more lunch bag friendly. Who likes soggy tortillas?? |

| Weight Loss | Hey Ladies..How much protein do I need? | May 30 2008 14:34 (UTC) |
1 |
Absolute Whey Protein made by Interactive Nutrition. 30g scoop = 110 cals and 23 g protein and tons of amino acids no artificial anythings! I add it to a smoothie with frozen blueberries, banana, and natural yogurt. Helps disguise the funny aftertaste of the powder. I also have trouble getting in enough protein while watching calories and fat. It's quite a balancing act eh? |

| Weight Loss | Bio-oil/Strivectin (for stretch marks) | May 28 2008 18:02 (UTC) |

I love Bio Oil. I've been using it for about 1 month and am seeing some results. My stretch marks are old (from having babies) and there is a little change, not dramatic. However, I have noticed a huge reduction in some old scars I had, as well as general redness in my skin. I use it all over, twice a day. In Canada, it's $12 a bottle at Shoppers Drug Mart and a bottle lasts me about a month, but I use it quite liberally. My advise, rub it in really well before getting dressed. I ruined my favorite bra because I didn't do this. |

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. You are obviously the type of daughter any mother would be proud to claim! I understand stress eating, I battle that monster myself. Try to identify the times when it's the worst. Maybe you could anticipate the feeling coming on and remove yourself from all temptation? OR, what about a container of fresh veggies all cut up and ready to go in the fridge with a big label that says "in times of stress break seal?" When I feel the most stressed out I try to take a walk. Perhaps not the easiest thing to do with 2 little ones, but they are portable so maybe take them with you. hang in there...I think that good people sometimes experience the most stress bc we care the most. take care... |

I've had a couple colonoscopies and an endoscopy. I can identify with the IV/needle thing...hate them. I found out one of the reasons they had trouble finding a vein was because I was so dehydrated. This was after a 48 hr colon cleanse. Yes, once you are sedated you don't know what's going on. Go to your happy place till it's all over. I know this is a stupid thing to say bc i've been there but.....try to relax. You'll do great!! |

Hey.. have you looked into probiotics? I was having some similar *ahem* issues and recently started taking Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium capsules (purchased at the health food store for about $12) After a couple of days I started feeling better and I even noticed the bloating is gone. You can also buy yogurt with the live bacteria added, but I have no idea if the quantities are appropriate. I still eat prunes too but that's because I love them, lol. Apparently probiotics are recommended during times when you're under stress. Recovering from an eating disorder is very stressful, emotionally and physically, right? It's worth investigating.. Good luck & stay healthy!! |

Brittney- I have two kids (14 & 15) and I hope you can find it inside of you to talk to your mother. I hope she is the kind of mom that can listen and offer the support YOU want and need. If she isn't then perhaps you can find someone at your school, a counselor, or a friend to help you with your goals. My heart goes out to you and I wish I could help. Keep reminding yourself you are doing this for you, for your future, for your health. I don't know about you but I've found setting small goals and then giving myself rewards is beneficial. After I lost my first ten pounds I got new shoes. Find what works for you. And please remember, it's not about the number on the scale because I can personally verify that all scales lie, especially the ones at the doctor's office!! What it's really about is being healthy, weight loss is just a small part of that so keep at the fitness and eating right too. Good luck Brittney, stumbles |

| Foods | Ways to cook my eggwhites | May 27 2008 00:56 (UTC) |
|
I love egg whites! I posted a couple weeks ago with a question on poaching egg whites. I tried it... don't bother unless you're poaching whole eggs for other people and then you can just throw in a couple of whites for yourself. 1)I found this technique (don't ask me where, I think it was on this site) and it works quite well- One large ziploc bag; spray inside with cooking spray; fill with egg whites; veggies; low fat cheese; salsa; whatever you like. Seal bag (important to remove all the air from inside bag). Place bag in pot of boiling water and boil for exactly 12 minutes. When finished, unzip bag and empty contents onto plate. This is great for when you are in a hurry. Check previous forum postings for pumpkin/oatmeal pancakes (uses egg whites and very tasty when you add a sprinkle of walnuts) I googled low fat egg white recipes and got a ton of hits. Hope that helps.... |

Hang in there, you can do this. I read your profile, at 26 with 4 kids, you are my hero! Anyone who thinks it's easy to do what Moms do everyday has never had to do it!!! If you can find the time to pamper yourself in other ways, you'll feel more energized about the exercise portion. Good luck.... |

like many before me I chop veggies ahead of time. I bought some cheap but re-usable containers and prepare as much as I think I can use in the next few days in the fridge. They keep surprisingly well, onions, celery, carrots, peppers, etc. I also cook extra veggies at night that I can eat the next day. Try adding granola to LF yogurt with blueberries the night before in a spill proof container. In the morning take it out of the fridge and eat, or take it with you. I agree with laschndr, hard boiled eggs are great. you can always pop out the yolk and save it for any non CCers in your house. Buying egg whites in the carton, tossing in your precut veggies, you could add turkey & low fat cheese. Look for "ziploc omelet", another great timesaver.... |

I have no idea if it's correct or not, but I log the cooked weight of frozen or fresh vegetables, unless CC has the actual item listed. I figure that's the quantity/volume that you are actually consuming. You're right, there is a lot of difference between frozen, fresh, steamed etc. Do you have a kitchen scale or do you use measuring cups/spoons? I have found a digital scale to be indispensible. |

Hey alex2929, I saw your post and thought I'd respond even tho I'm on this site to lose weight not gain. There are many people here that can talk to you about this and have experience with needing to gain weight, but you will need to give them more information. You didn't include your height. Have you been to see a doctor about your weight? What have you tried so far? Please post a little more information and I'm sure someone with more knowledge than I have will be able to talk to you.....

Original Post by supersized: I hadn't even considered that as a possibility. That makes perfect sense, and I have changed my burn meter to your suggestion. Maybe if I see that lower burn number it'll give me more incentive for more exercise! Thanks |

Hi.. My gastroenterologist suggested hot water w/balsamic vinegar (+ honey if you can't tolerate the taste alone). This works really well for me. I have certain days where I just feel terribly bloated. I drink this and I eat foods that are natural "movers" (if you know what I mean) like prunes etc, and things are pretty well "cleansed" in no time. Obviously, drink plain water too. But you need to eat...just choose the right foods. hope that helps.. |
