| Foods | Lunch Sandwiches? | Sep 10 2008 19:43 (UTC) |

You could roast a chicken or turkey and use the leftovers for sandwiches. Roasting a small chicken is very economical. I get 2-3 meals and a couple lunches out of a 5 lb. chicken. Also, try basing your sandwich around vegetables instead of meat. Hummus is pretty low calorie. I like roasted red pepper hummus on a sandwich as my "protein". Actually, I like it as a wrap on a WW tortilla. Or do a vegetarian sandwich with some reduced fat cheese, avocado, tomato, onion, peppers, a little olive oil & vinegar. How about a big salad? You can really load up on vegetables for low low calories and it keeps me full forever. Top it with beans & other veggies, eggs, sunflower seeds, chicken, etc. |

I cook 1/4 of a banana in with the oats, then slice the other 1/4 of the banana on top. Then I top the bowl with: 1 tsp natural peanut butter 1 tsp brown sugar 1 tsp walnuts I also eat oatmeal for dessert by adding 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa and 2 packets of splenda, then top with the toppings from above. I love oatmeal. |

Oops, I just realized you already said focusing on breathing doesn't work. I have no other ideas - sorry! For me the breathing worked. Don't wait until you get winded to focus on breathing. For me, it's too late to recover. |

I was having the same problem. I realized that my side cramps came near the beginning of my run when I wasn't concentrating on my breathing. Inhale through your nose and out through your mouth - focus on it - from the very moment you hit the treadmill. If I start playing with my iPod or start looking around at all the other people, I lose focus of my breathing and I can feel the cramp coming back on. I hope this works for you. |

I see your a new member here. I had the same problem getting all my calories when I started. But believe me, once the "newness" wears off you won't have problems getting your calories. But I don't think 1500 is too low as long as you're not feeling hungry. Maybe add dessert - lowfat vanilla yogurt topped with bananas (and a little natural peanut butter melted and poured on top if you're feeling saucy)! |

I wanted to name my daughter Jovi, but my hubby thought I was nuts. I'm going to Germany next week and Bon Jovi will be in Munich when I'm in Munich. Again, hubby thinks it's absolutely crazy that I would want to see an AMERICAN band in a FOREIGN country - especially because I've already seen the concert. I see nothing crazy about that. Love Jovi! Oooh, and a Bon Jovi tat. Good idea! :) |

You sound exactly like me about 2 months ago. I had your same stats too - 5' 6" and 150 lbs. I was working out like mad and thought I was eating well. I was eating healthy foods, but my portions were out of whack. And I wasn't taking my snacks into consideration. The fix....start measuring out your food and count your calories. I'm down to 140 after a month and a half. |

Sorry, I don't really have any pictures to show you. I'm 5' 6" and a medium build and at 118 lbs people commented that I was too skinny or would inquire whether or not I was eating. My profile picture is me at 150 - it's only a head shot though. I'm trying to get back down to the 130 range (142 right now). I look nice and healthy there. 118 was an underweight BMI for me too. The BMI doesn't really take build into consideration. My husband is considered overweight/obese according to his BMI, but he has a large build and he's very muscular by nature. He's not fat at all! What weight are you now? If you were playing lots of sports at 115, then you were burning tons of calories. |

I ran 2 miles in the time that the army requires for people in my age group. I'm not in the military, but I've been trying to get my 2 mile run under this time for about a month. I blew it out of the water today by 20 seconds! |

I agree that counting calories and working out is the only way to go. I don't think that all calories are created equal, but I am not willing to swear off certain foods for the rest of my life. For example, pasta and bread. I might lose weight right now by doing a low-carb diet, but I certainly can't commit to a lifetime without pasta. That's why it's called a diet....it's temporary! Burning more calories than you take in and choosing healthy foods is a way of life. It might take longer to lose the weight, but it's worth it.

Personally, I think you should try and figure out how many calories you're burning and focus on your deficit. 1,200 calories might be low. I have a hard time getting all the calories in myself, so I can assume you don't really want to eat anymore because it feels like you should eat LESS to lose weight and not more. If you're happy with the working out, then go with it. I'm not a professional by any sense of the word. I only know what worked for me. By the way, how do you like Pilates? I've wanted to try it, but I try to get in and out of the gym quickly so classes always fall to the wayside for me. I have done spinning and I love that, but it's hard to figure out how to get my weights in before the class and time it perfectly. I don't want to sit around and wait for class to start. So I just run. |

You know, I've been thinking about this. I don't want to discourage you at all. But I was thinking (and your last post quantified that), if you're working out so much you're probably eating more. Your deficit of calories burned vs. calories consumed could remain the same if you worked out less and ate less overall. Everyone on this website says to aim towards a 500-1000 calorie deficit daily. If you burned 2,500 calories and ate 1,500 calories that would be a 1,000 deficit. How many calories are you burning each day with all that exercise? And how many calories are you eating? I think you could probably get the same results working out less and keeping your calories in line with the intended deficit. |

| Fitness | Overtraining? | Apr 18 2008 22:45 (UTC) |

You might be overdoing it. I was doing a similar volume of exercise and not losing anything. I was also eating more because of the volume of exercise made me so hungry. I couldn't sleep and dreaded going to the gym. Eventually I couldn't even do 30 minutes on the elliptical and I could always do it before. My legs just felt like cement. My trainer also told me to have a couple days off each week. He has me doing less exercise overall and it didn't feel like I was doing "enough", but I've lost 5 pounds this month watching calories and doing the new workout. I work out 3-4 days a week - weights broken up by muscle group, running 30 minutes after weights, then abs. |

Good luck! I just don't want you to burn out. Are you working out at a gym or at home? If you're going to a gym, maybe you can have one or two sessions with a trainer to come up with a program you can stick with long term. |

What's "Pfeffersweine or Pfeffer steak"? I really am looking for something to recognize on the menu, but I want to know what it is too. And I don't speak German. My husband does a little bit, but he doesn't seem to know any of the words for food. I won't be going crazy about counting calories. I'll sample everything in moderation. |

Original Post by vmcbutterfly: Yeah, I was going to add that for about the same calories I can have some yogurt w/ bananas & strawberries on top and 1 oz. of melted dark chocolate. It seems so much more substantial. However, the bars are good when you're on the run I suppose. But then again, a banana is just as easy to put in your purse. Except it kind of smells after a little bit. So, I'm back at not really understanding why the bars are any better than another non-processed snack. The bars do have a little bit of a "fake" taste. And the smore's flavor tastes nothing like a smore's I've ever had, but no chocolate is bad chocolate in my opinion. |

I bought the Luna bars thinking the protein would really fill me up, but I don't notice really any difference between the bar and a piece of fruit as far as filling me up or how long it lasts. They are good as a dessert though and I like the convenience factor. |
