| Health & Support | How do you cope? | Nov 12 2009 22:37 (UTC) |

I am similar to emma, I love keeping busy, it makes me feel really organized to have a full schedule and lots of things to do, which is a healthy manifestation of my obsession with control! (Which I'm sure many ED sufferers understand!) I always make sure to have lots of classes, music rehearsals, lunch dates, etc and I feel really happy then :) Also my friends and boyfriend are great support for me, and also listening to my nutritionists wise advice that I DO need to eat a lot, and I am not not not a bad person for doing so.
And facebook like tessa :D |

I believe it makes MUCH more sense to cook for healthy flavor rather than merely as low cal as possible with a million artificial sweeteners and weird substitutes. Plus diets are so much easier to stick to when they don't feel like diets, but like you get to eat actual food. So many of hungry girls ideas are ridiculous not to mention expensive, like she makes parfaits with TWO jello cups, like, how much would that cost if you ate one every day? And all the laughing cow wedges used for EVERYTHING...no thanks!

| Weight Gain | Has anyone had successful weight gain with intuitive eating? | Nov 03 2009 02:29 (UTC) |

hmm...thanks for all the input. I had an appointment today and i think i'm making great progress, my new goal for the week is to try and eat even more every day, so i'm going to try and eat 3 big meals plus 3 snacks every day :) I suppose eventually i'll have some sort of meal plan though, although i'm really glad i've been able to basically double my calorie intake and be completely happy with it. |

| Weight Gain | Experiences with 're-introducing' yourself to fear foods? | Oct 31 2009 22:25 (UTC) |

Over the last few weeks as I've started allowing myself to just eat intuitively whenever I am hungry and what I'm craving, I've eaten tons of fear food, like oil in cooking, cheese, pasta, lots of bread, desserts...and it's really interesting, I noticed that at first I believe my mind wanted to try as many different flavors as possible, so I would eat lots of bites of different things, like cheese out of the bag and a piece of banana bread and a little bit of cereal and milk, all right after the other! But as my mind is starting to realize that I CAN really eat whatever I want when I want, these types of bizarre cravings have started to pass. I'm starting to realize I actually dislike some food i used to hold as being completely forbidden and off-limits, which used to make me crave them. EXAMPLE: Pasta with lots of tomato sauce, don't like it too much! But I still ate it several times just because it seemed "evil" in my mind. Has anyone else experienced similar things? |

good point rchklove, i was just wondering about how "healthy" or not the bars were, although you are definitely right i shouldnt' be worried about that type of stuff too much! Its not like i'm going out and eating a whole stick of butter or something. BTW I tried the chocolate chip peanut odwalla bar today, and i thought it was really good! Yummy crunchy and chocolately :) |

Hey I'm also wondering, whats your guys opinion on odwalla bars? They are $1 each at safeway so i bought banana nut, chocolate peanut, sweet and salty almond, and strawberry pomegranate. Sound delicious, but I don't know if they're that healthy or just full of added sugar! |

Today I am really proud of the fact that I went to a reception with A LOT of good, and I tried ALL the types of dessert...some pumpkin pie, apple pie, banana bread, pumpkin bread...and cookies! Plus I ate cheese and bean dip and some other food. So basically I ate a lot of high calorie food around lots of people and I felt absolutely no guilt! I know i consumed lots of dessert and therefore sugar and butter but I enjoyed it!!! |

| Weight Gain | symptoms following calorie increases? | Oct 20 2009 02:16 (UTC) |

I very recently started refeeding to recover from anorexia as well, and so far I have noticed that my stomach is SO bloated after eating, from fluid retention. Also I am probably eating about twice as many calories a day as I was before, including lots more fats and carbs like bread, rice etc, and I am so much hungrier also! I think its a great sign that our bodies are realizing that however much food it needs is finally coming, so our metabolisms are speeding up to use the food to repair body parts. The best advice my nutritionist gave me about this hunger is to go with it! we've been hungry for so long that our bodies want and need food so if you're hungry, eat more :) |

I just bought some larabars at Trader Joes for the first time a couple days ago, have yet to try one but they look perfect. They are made of only dried fruit and nuts, with no added sugar so they are both calorie dense and nutritious. Although like izzy says yes they are wayyyy overpriced (i bought them for $1.29 each! aggh!) Perhaps try buying in bulk for bars and things like these? Also, has anyone found any other bars that don't have any added sugar besides larabars? I noticed Cliffbars and Lunabars have a bunch of sugar added, although they still seem pretty healthy I think. |

Awesome erin for seeing a higher number and not being afraid :D Today I DIDNT count but ate what I wanted, because I was HUNGRY. And I feel so much less stressed out, my psych said I use eating to protect myself from feeling anxiety and that is SO true, even though I got to the point where I felt anxious no matter what because I was so worried I had messed up my calories without realizing! I've finally realized truly that losing weight and obsessively controlling what you eat leads to nothing good, only pain, stress, and sadness. I want to be healthy, not ridiculously skinny and miserable. |

| Health & Support | Talking to a friend about yours or their eating disorder... | Oct 13 2009 19:00 (UTC) |

I told my boyfriend about my ed a few months ago, and it was one of the best decisions I could have made, he has been extremely supportive and is one of the main reasons I finally decided to get professional help. If i hadn't told him I am sure I would still be in the same old place, struggling miserably on my own. Also, a couple of my closest friends talked to me about it, they had known for a long time but apparently had just had no idea what to do...its very hard for people to come to you first, but if you reach out to them, then you will find that your true friends will be there for you. Telling people helps immensely, in my opinion. Just be careful who you tell, and perhaps not too too many people, because it might come back and bite you in the ass. |

Awesome Fiona!! Drinks are always so scary, I love my alcohol ha but having to find the best way to incorporate into the daily "calorie budget" is always such a pain in the ass, something I want to get away from completely! Let nights out just be nights out :) Its so great you did that, AND ate two meals with a friend. |

Mmmm I LOVE raw salmon! I'm Japanese so sushi has always been a favorite :) You could definitely make a japanese themed dinner, with miso soup, cucumber salad with rice vinegar, seaweed salad, brown rice...maybe make some sushi rolls with some of the salmon! Perhaps buy some mochi for dessert and sake also :) |

Sushi is a great health food. Make sure, if you're watching your calories, to avoid ones involving fried things, like tempura. Mayonnaise mixed with crab also adds a lot of cals. Also, most of the calories in rolls and things come from rice, so either watch how much rice you're eating or order sashimi. Raw fish is a fabulously healthy food! If you just ate one roll and one piece of another, I'd venture to guess you only had around perhaps 500 cals at the most. California rolls have mayonnaise and avocado so they're more on the higher side but you only had ONE so don't worry at all! |

Thank you both so much for saying this, I seriously just read these two posts and feel so much better about myself, yes you're right I DID eat a lot but it wasn't like, say a whole pint of ice cream and 10 donuts or something like that. I didn't end up "tossing the cookies" (sounds nice haha) so I'm happy about that :) Helen thank you you are always so supportive also I love reading your posts PS Gi-jane the "cow" in my name is actually just a nickname I've always had not actually a fat reference as much as it seems like that. Oddly.
I think i'm going to go eat breakfast now ! ED says RESTRICT but I can't do that to myself anymore. I actually think I feel better today, after eating a lot yesterday I don't feel as weak and cloudy-headed! |

Original Post by goobyb: If someone is really and truly set on recovery, then one single person doing something slightly triggering definitely should not be enough to make them revert back to their ED. If it is, then they are not ready for recovery in the first place. |

qualquann I don't think you are being very fair to the ED recoverers who posted photos of themselves on their profiles, people like Helen who show pictures of themselves at extremely low weights show the horrors of anorexia, not "oh look how thin I was I bet YOU weren't this thin". Yes, people should preferably not post photos of them posing like "look at me! I'm skinny!" but there is nothing wrong with showing to what horrible health extremes eating disorders can take you. I personally find that looking at emaciated pictures makes me want to recover NOW before I let anything go to such an extreme degree. Also, almost everyone with an ED finds numerous things triggering...it is not fair to tell everyone they can't do anything that might potentially trigger you.
