I agree with all of the above.  You need to find something to do with your time you enjoy.  I think boredom is our worst enemy.  When I am idol and bored I go to the refrig. open it and stand there.  I am not hungry, food is my friend and brings me comfort except it makes me gain weight so after I eat it I am unhappy with myself.  Foods that you really love may need to be banded.  I have given up donuts (all kinds).  When I worked and would go to a morning meeting and they had donuts and pastries I learned to JUST SAY NO  THANK YOU.  If I had one in the morning the whole day was shoot.  I try NOT to have trigger foods in the house.  Instead of ice cream in the evening my husband and I have rice pudding.  I have 1/2cup with 1/4 cup of strawberries.  I log it.  I think it is important to find foods that you enjoy and have them in moderation.  This is a long journey for most of us, food needs to be in our life,  we need to learn to handle foods and enjoy our life.

I am going to start logging again today also, I know that is key. I thought I could stay on track without logging but that obviously is not the case.  I am also on the brink of needing to buy smaller clothes and underwear.  I have been a 9 in underpants for ever. My bras are not holding me up like they need to.  I went to buy 2 new ones a size smaller and they are discontinuing the style I like, I HATE THAT.

pancha8 and stephtobea9 lets stay in touch, I find inspiration in reading others journals.  I feel a connection and enjoy the camaraderie.

I'm still here, but slacking off.  We have been traveling allot with eating out, that is my biggest down fall.  I have stopped logging my intake and exercise.  Going back to my old habits of snacking between meals and picking at the stove.  I was down to 207 but now am 209 from 224.  I need to get back on the wagon and ride the horse to victory.  I find summer harder because my life is busier, winter I am more controlled.  I have tried to stay with the program, I have been able to get 1 hour of swimming laps in 2 times a week, was doing 3 and not over eating, stopping when I feel full and making better choices.  I do not want to fall by the way side and not finish this journey, it is up to me to make the commitment and stick to it.

Weight Loss Too much temptation! Jul 12 2008

Most all of have been in the same dilemma.  I have many times and finally just have made up my mine I DO NOT EAT DONUTS, STORE BOUGHT MUFFINS and any other pastries.  If you could eat 1 quarter or even a half and be done that would work.  It is all in the mind set. What I have done for myself and family.  I make healthy bran muffins and banana bread every weekend, freeze them and we all take a muffin or slice of banana bread to work every morning.  I no longer work in a office so don't have the temptation as often.  But the job I now have every now and then someone will show up with a box of Dunkin Donuts.  I happened the other day, I said no thanks and walked away.  I can not allow a weakness destroy what I am trying to accomplish.  Good luck

I have had a good week, 1 lb. loss, I had hoped for 2 lbs a week but I have not accomplished that and have decided if i can maintain 1 lb per week the weight will be gone.  I am not putting in enough effort to loss 2 lbs a week but I am building a new life style, I am making the right choice's.  Last night my daughter and I were on our way home from a trip and we stopped about a hour and half from home for dinner.  It was about 8:00pm and we were hungry.  I ordered baby back ribs, chose the broccoli for the side instead of the potato.  I did order warm bread with the salad and had 2 pieces.  I do not eat bread normally but seemed to go with the garden salad.  I had eaten very light all day.  I brought half the ribs home as there were way to many.  I am happy with the way I handled the dinner out. OUT is my main problem.  We will have another covered dish supper this weekend and that will be another challenge but I will deal with it.  I must continue my life and have a healthy relationship with food.  It has controlled me most of my life.  I was a chunky youngster, a overweight teenager and most of my adult life overweight.  Food has controlled me, but now I am in control.  stephtobea9  good post about your thoughts.  I gain so much from reading this tread and others journals because I can relate to so much.  CW 208    SW 224  GW 150

I did well last week, 2 lb loss.  Swam only twice, worked 4 days.  I was out overnight one night got to motel late and had to leave very early so didn't go to dinner.  I had brought a hearty salad and I ate that.  Another night I got home after dinner and ate light when I got home, think that helped with the 2 lb loss.

stephtobea9 yes my problem is the same, horrible pain when you get up in the morning. I hurts most in the heel and into the arch.  They say it is a ingury to the connecting tissue that connects the heel and the toes.  I'm 6 months into mine and getting better.  A day with to much on my feet leaves me hurting for a few days. Today I did Walmart (whole store)than came home and did yard work for a few hours.  Hurts now.

Lonestarpenny no plantar fascitis is different from plantar warts.  My problem is the inflammation of the tissue that connects the heel to toes.  Hurts terrible when you first get up in the morning in the heel, getting to the bathroom at night is also horrible.  You can not stand to be barefoot.  I am on the mend, I can do a Wally World Shop now, couldn't at Christmas time.  I have read that it take a average of 18 months to heal.  That is why I swim for my exercise rather that walk, plus I love it.  luxbxrs may take you several weeks to get with the program, hopefully you won't continue to get the urge to splurge.  Menopause is a tough time, I used the hormone therapy for about 7 years, I always said I was going to take my last pill the night before I died.  Then they came out with the research with the link to breast cancer, so I stopped them.  I understand there are some natural things out there that help.  I remember the week before I started taking them feeling SO down in the dumps, I keep telling myself I had a very good life, but my brain didn't let me feel that way.  It is a hard time but it does get better with time.  The hot flashs subside and the mood swings go away.  Of course next is old age and the joints hurt.  I am 66 now, and don't get around like I did at 50. LOL

Everyone have a wonderful restful weekend and I look forward to catching up with everyone the beginning of the week

Good job Jericho getting back with it, I have loathed exercising for years but now have found one that I really enjoy.  I think that is key.  My week went well no temptations, stayed on track within my allotted calories, swan 3 times for 60 mins. did laps. My laps are a steady side stroke, with a occasional crawl up and back then I flip to my back and do the backstroke.  My goal is to move myself though the water with force but I am not a speed demon.  Didn't eat out at all, need to stay away from that when I can.

luvbxrs thank you for your in-sight. I went to a specialty shoe store last week and they recommended these German (Haflinger) made shoe for around the house, they are felt with a very good arch. Wish I had found them 6 months ago. I also find being flat footed hurts, I need to have my heel elevated some. One of the cause's of this curse is obesity. We are expecting our feet to carry all this weight around, no wonder they rebell. Nearly all my working life was spent standing or walking. I worked in the restaurant industry for years. Now I just sit and drive.

Did another 60 minutes of laps today and then did the Walmart complete store shop. So I got my 1000 deficit today. Hope the scales are kind in the morning.

I saw a over 50 tread mentioned, could someone post the link to that.  I have been thinking  I would like to participate in one.  I have sort of looked around and haven't found it. Thank You in advance  Barb

A little late with my check in this week, holiday then working.  Only lost .5 this week, only swam 2 times and one walk up our hill.  I know I need to turn the exercise up.  I have plantar fascitis in my left foot so walking any distance HURTS.  I am making progress, I can shop at Walmart, do the whole store and walk out without limping now.  Around Christmas that was impossible so I am gaining.  Day to day walking is getting better and better but if I over do I pay with pain.  That is what has led me to swim for my exercise plus I love it.  Tuesday I went and did laps for 60 minutes, my all time high, think I will continue to do 60 minutes each time to make up for the days I can't get there.

I had forgot about TOPS, they are a great organization.  Very low cost and would work well with  this site if someone needed the real live people support group.

I had a really good week, was away from home couple nights, required eating out 2 nights and our monthly Camping Club meeting and covered dish supper plus took granddaughter for ice cream one afternoon. I didn't log calories except one day, only got to the pool 2 times. LOST 1.5

I'm fairly new on this thread, rainOrshine2 keep up the good work, I was a heavy teenager and loss it for a few years, then after marriage and children gained it all back. Lost it again after third child, and gained it all back again. If you learn to eat proper portions now, manage your calories and get your exercise. You will be successful.  It was said in a earlier post about lifestyle change.  That is the key in my estimation.  I am now 66, wish I had reached this conclusion years ago.  I have lost 9 lbs since march 30th and plan on getting the rest of it off 1 lb and a time. I think being able to sit down every day post your calories and add the exercise,  read some forums, have a few people on your friends list,  read their journals and respond to them helps keep you focused.

Will continue to stay focused when away from home.  I am very happy with this program as I am eating every thing (well almost everything) that others in the home are having, just less of it.  I have dessert every night, just 1/2 c. ice cream or pudding.  Count it in daily totals.  I swam laps 3 times last week for 40 minutes, did water aerobics for 15 minutes and sat in hot tub for 10 minutes.

Foods Family Dinners Apr 28 2008

Hi I agree with gi jane, I think you are probably over estimating your evening meal.  It is all about portion control, ask your mom as I imagine you do "What's for dinner".  Than figure out how much of each you can have using the tool here.  Lots of times you have to guesstimate.  Tonight I am making a beef stew, rather than trying to figure the exact calories, I typed in Beef stew, the first entry was 232 for 8 oz.  That is 1cup, i think I need to have more as the veg., starch and meat are all in one so I entered 1 1/2 cup.  I don't know if that is correct but think is is close enough.  Make a plan before you go to dinner.  I measure right at the table because I find when guessing I take to much. I weigh my meat also.  Invest in a little food scale. I think you mom will understand.

My Monday morning weigh-in was just so so.  Only down .5 lb.  Yesterday I was down 1.5 but this morning I was up one lb.  I do think that is not real, had a rather salty dinner last night and think that other lb. will be gone tomorrow.  I sure hope so, I am not discouraged just surprised.  I had a couple challenges this week-end that I think I handled well.  Husband and I went shopping Saturday morning,at noon we were headed home and he said Sprinkles and Cream or home????? We always have lunch at Sprinkles and Cream a few times a season, it is a old fashion ice cream stand that has limited lunch menu.  I said lets do Sprinkles and Cream.  I ordered a marinated chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries and we shared a root beer.  I only ate the chicken left the bread, 2/3 of the sweet potatoes and had about a third of the bottle of root beer.  Dinner i cut back and had small shrimp stir fry and didn't count calories that day.  Sunday we went back to store for a couple things and out of habit I looked in the ice cream case because there is a flavor that we love and they never have it. Rocky Mountain Raspberry.  They had 3 tubs and it was on sale for $2.99.  Put all three in my cart.  Thought about it, put one back.  Last night I had 1/2 cup 160 calories, while he had a big dish.  I ate it slow enjoyed every mouth full and included it in my daily count.  Because this is a lifestyle change I must figure out how to handle these situations.  BEFORE if he had a big dish so did I.

Listen to everything that has been said here.  I have a daughter that has battled a eating disorder for over 20 years.  It started in high school and she is now in her mid forty's.  She was so embarrassed and secretive, it eventually ruled her life.  The fact you are reaching for help now I think will help you control it before it controls you.  As someone said it is a mental issue and you need  therpy.  If you live in a large comunity there is probably a support group especially if you have a collage close, that is the age  that it usually starts.  As said earlier there is a lot of information on the Internet.  Check it out before it rules your life.

I also have PF.  I agree with every thing said here.  Mine started before the holidays, a trip though Walmart had me limping the rest of the day.  I have always gone bare foot at home, now I can not be barefoot for more then a short time.  When this started I couldn't even get to the bathroom during the night with out something on my feet.  I also did research on the computer and found CROCS had a therapeutic shoe recommended for this, I ordered them, I found slippers with a memory foam sole that have been wonderful for around the house and going to the bathroom at night.  I also have done stretches the I found on the Internet.  Since the holidays I have worn the Crocs with ex-thick mens work socks almost exclusively, the slippers at home and do much better.  At a recent visit to my PG we talked about my problem and she suggested water exercise.  I left there went to the local health club and joined.  More research tells me being heavy is one of the main causes for this condition.  I have been heavy most of my life and have spent many years working on my feet.  I now am simi retired and no longer must be on my feet.  Since joining the health club and finding this site I am now committed to losing this weight.  One thing has led to another for me.  I swim laps for 30 min. then go to the therapy pool and do water aerobics or just run in place. Then I go to the hot tub and the step leading down to it I hang off the step with my toes supporting me and lower my self as much as I can.  I do this several times. I know this has helped my foot.

I also agree with kaufmkk that this is a lifestyle change, your story is very inspirational.  I don't think we can ever eat what ever we want or we will gain it back.  I have lost over 70 lbs twice in my life.  First as a teenager and the second after third child was born. I was about as heavy then as i am now, and took 20+ years to gain it back.  The past 10 years I have had the attitude i don't care this is how i am.  But at 66 years old, it is getting hard for me to move around.  I have always been light on my feet considering how much I weighed.  I developed plantar fisica in my left foot and has been SO painful to walk.  Doctor suggested water exercise, one thing has led to another and now I am committed to take this weight off again and I will keep it off.  I swim laps 3 days a week and do water aerobics.

Hi!!!!My daughter has had a eating disorder for over twenty-five +years.  Since collage, she is now 47.  She was very secretive about it, but we all knew or suspected.  I agree with EVERYTHING that has been said here.  You need professional help.  She tried so hard to beat it, she finally came out of the closet and reached for help.  She went to a clinic in Ohio and they helped her understand.  You need at least out patient therapy and inpatient would be better.  I don't know if she is completely cured, but believe she is allot better.  It IS a difficult subject to talk to loved ones about.  She says she can sense my disappointment when she has relapsed.  She relates her life as a good angel and bad angel on each shoulder, one saying do it and the other don't do it.  She describes it to having a demon with in her.  She is a very intelligent women (RN).  She was about 40 when she reached for help.  Had two children and confessed to me she practiced purging even during pregnancy.  She is experiencing very severe health problems now, don't know if the many years of purgeing has contributed but don't think it helped. PLEASE SEEK HELP.  The internet and these forums help you share and get support. Her insurance covered her stay at the clinic and follow-up therapy.

I would like participate in this treadI am 66 years old, 5'5" currently 220 started 2 weeks ago at 224.  I have been heavy most of my life.  During my high school years lost it when attracted to boys.  Kept it off until I married and had our first child.  Never lost it before our second child came along.  I Yo-yoed for 10 years, after 3ed child I started a good long term goal and got it off again, so twice i have lost 70 lbs.  I did not put it on over night, just 3 to 5 lbs a year. Well I need to do it again and I am on my way.  I feel extraordinarily motivated and determined to do it again. I really like this site, when I did it before i basically used the calorie method and believe it is the one for me.  Every time I have tried gimmick diets I would get hungery for certain foods and end up caving. Counting calories allows you to eat all food groups.  Good luck to all and lets get this done

I have not done any exercises (I hate them too) put thinking I want to add them.  I swim at a health club 3 days a week, i do 30 minutes of laps ( my laps are moderate speed side stroke and back stoke) and 15 minutes of water aerobics.  On days I don't swim I walk up a hill and down we have on our property a couple times so that I am moving at least 30 minutes.  By the time I get to the top I am huffing and puffing.  I have also add general gardening as it is the time of year here that we need to clean up the lawn and rake my flower beds, pull last years weeds and chop down the stakes from the perennials. I don't think I could do strenuous exercising, that is why I have gone to the swimming.  I want to find a low impact video, sure they are out there just haven't looked.  There are all kinds of machines at the health club but haven't looked into that yet either.  I really love to swim so that is what I am doing and so easy on my feet and back.

Good Morning, I want to follow up to pacific586 comment of "eating consciously."  or what I call mindless eating. I was thinking about this yesterday and when she posted this decided to comment on the subject.  All of us at some time or other sit and eat while reading, watching TV or one of my MAJOR problems while cooking.  I have always unconsciously had the theory if standing up it didn't count.  When cooking I always taste and now realize you don't need a tablespoon full to see if it is seasoned properly.  I now eat only sitting at the table and give my food my undivided attention, I think about how good it tastes, I eat slowly and totally enjoy.  When cooking i take a tiny sample.  Another problem area is the refrigerator when you are bored.  How many times do you find your self opening the door and gazing into it looking for something, your are not hungry just want something to do.  I use to always go to the refrigerator after my husband went to bed.  I was not hungry just driven by something inside of me.  Since I have started this journey I do not do that, I am enjoying my meals and snacks and so proud of myself that I am staying on track.

I have done WW a few times, the last time lost 20+ but got off track and gained it all back.  Took  several years but it is back.  CC suggests 1450 cal. for me and I find that is working.  As veganmamma said, it is slower, but I think I can stay with this because I am satisfied.  I have been here for only 2 weeks and have lost 4 lbs.  If I can continue with 2 lbs a week I will be content.  This must be a lifestyle change and become part of life.  I am now 220 and would like to get to 150 -160 range.  Two other times in my life I have lost 70 lbs and I did it both times with calorie counting.  I think this site is great.  I tag the idems I eat regularly makes it esay to add them.  I also swim 3 times a week.
