I have seen a lot of hype about the Nook but they say it does not have a browser associated with the wifi.   Do you have to buy the ebooks through Amazon when you have a Kindle or can you take ones you have on your computer now and put them it?

Did not do well this week.  I did not weigh out portions as much as I usually do and it appears I can not trust myself to eye ball amounts.  Will be more diligent this week.

I just read the article and I can't help but think it has to be better to know than to keep wondering.  So very sad.

Good Morning :)

You sounded kinda lonely and I thought you could use some company.  Tea would be lovely as today is cold and rainy.  Any chance of a fireplace in chat?  A roaring fire would also be great.

Like the song by the way.

I think for that activity to be accurate you would have to be consantly moving not stopping at all so I think it may be a fair amount of calories burned but not as many as it stated.

I ran into this in the summer with gardening.  They really try to give credit for the heavy tasks but you are not constantly doing any one thing without some intermittant breaks so you are credited for more than you actually do.

I use the numbers as a guide but not as gospel or I could justify eating a whole lot more than I should.Smile

Hope that helps.

Hi Tina.  Welcome back!

novi -I do the same thing when I use my elliptical.  I have been known to turn off the heat and crack the window while I'm exercising (Don't tell my husband).  We are outside of Pittsburgh and it's crazy but I do it.

artistsusan -great job on meeting your goal!

Stephanie, I live outside of Mars which is southwest of Kittanning and Ford City.

Where are you in NC?  I did an internship in college in Chapel Hill and thought it was just a beautiful area.  We have gone on vacation on Topsail Island which is also a very beautiful piece of NC.

Hi all,

I exercised yesterday and today so I feel like I am almost back on track for this.  The Super Bowl did me in.  Did I mention I live just north of Pittsburgh and Super Bowl was bigger than New Year's here.  Ate waaaaaay too much but I hope all of that overeating is out of me.  I really want to get back on track.  Will weigh in on Friday.

So far this week I have done the elliptical for 35 min on Sun and today and walked on the treadmill today for 15 so I am back on track for the week

Hi all,

Have been lurking again but not posting.  Did not do well at all this week and weighed in yesterday a pound up.  Considering what I ate I think it could have been much worse so I count myself lucky.

You all sound like you are really in the groove with this.  Maybe it will rub off on me.  Keep up all the hard work!

Hi all,

Fell off the wagon and gained 1 pound this week.  I did not exercise as I should and ate all sorts of things that I have been avoiding.  I am going to try again to stay under 1600 this week regardless of my exercise.  I just seem to have lost my motivation for the time being.

You hooo.   Anybody here?

I did not sign up for the biggest loser this time because I was also trying to get started with a small group for a longer time.

Would very much like to keep this thread going too, Rodney.

I have maintained this week but not good with the exercise.  Need to get back on that wagon.

Hope everyone else is making progress.

Hi all,

I like the idea of a reward system for weight loss.  Its a great thing to be able to look forward to something for all the hard work you do.

Where do you get Palmer's and does it work on old stretch marks?

Regarding portion control I have found I have no concept of serving size and I have to weigh out everything.  It makes it easier to log but it also keeps me honestEmbarassed

I am still at 189 and have to get back on the exercise wagon.  I am getting some activity in by parking farther away than I need to and going stairs when available but I need some good sustained activity.

Hope you all are doing well,

Jen

Hi all and welcome to the newbies Smile

I have been doing fairly well with the calorie counting but did not loose any thing this week so still at 189.  I have not been able to exercise other than parking farther away than I need and taking the steps whenever available.  I need to get back on the regular exercise wagon and hoping to do so this week.

I like the idea of a challenge for the exercise and 20 min a day should be realistic.

I work with elderly and have on many occasions seen a spouse just fade away after a death of the other.  The medical term is failure to thrive (which can encompass a lot not just a spouse's death.)  These folks have spent so much time and effort both physical and mental on caring for the other that when the spouse passes it literally takes the life out of them. I have seen people will themselves to live and also to die.  People with chronic illness can and do will themselves to die.  They stop eating and sometimes stop taking meds and it is not long before the body simply shuts down.

The Lounge hysterectomy? [update!] Jan 19 2009

pg -I had a total abdominal hysterectomy for endometriosis last April at 42.   They took out ovaries, cervix and uterus.   I recovered well from it and feel great now.  Was having severe pain and taking a lot of Motrin (800mg 3 x a day) which was so harsh on my stomach I was taking meds to help that.  I also had no luck losing weight due all the hormone disruption.  Since the surgery I have lost 50 lbs which has resulted in my going off cholesterol meds.  I no longer have pain so I don't need the Motrin and my stomach no longer under assault and I am off those meds.

My quality of life has definetly improved.  My affect is very much improved since I am not in constant pain and I am finally in controll of my hormones.

I have had infertility issues because of the endometriosis and underwent much therapy involving lots of needles. When I realized this was not going to work for me, I made the decision to have the hysterectomy and it was the best for me.  That being said, we all make decisions based on what is best for ourselves at the time.

I wish you much luck in your decision making.

Hi all,

Sorry I have been MIA for a while. Work and home got so busy.  I don't have Internet access at work so I end up lurking as I can for a minute here and there.

Audrey -you seem to be on the right track.  I agree with novileigh that you have great support in your husband.

Novi -What great advice you gave to Audrey.  I think most of the challenge of weight loss is finding the right support system and staying motivated.  We can all try to do both to help all of us along.

Since we did not have a decision, why don't we weigh in on Friday.  I did and I weigh 189.  EEEK.  I am back on track with the weighing of my food and still need to get back on track with the exercise.  I already know next week work wise is going to be very busy but I am trying to schedule in some me time for the exercise.

GOod luck to everyone and I will try to not just lurk but actually post this week.

Hi all,

Have been lurking but not posting.  I had a start weight of 190 and now 189 as of this morning.  I want to really get back on track with exercise but work keeps getting in the way.  I am weighing things out pretty consistently and, although its been a while for the weighing,  I still am amazed how small a portion size of most things are.

As to the weather we were at -9 deg this morning and with the wind -22 deg.  Surprised That is Fahrenheit not Celsius.  I think that is obscene.  We are outside of Pittsburgh and my good friend lives in Saskatoon, SK in Canada where normally it is well below zero, it was a balmy 32 deg.  That is just so wrong.

Sounds like everyone is doing well with the program.  Keep up the good work.

Good luck, Jen

Hi -

I would like to join the group too.  I am 43, my b-day is close to June Laughing July 14.  I started CC back in March and have lost about 50 lbs and have stalled.  I need to get a jump start as I would like to loose at least 40 more but that is probablynot going to happen for my b-day.  I would settle for a slow steady loss. I had a hysterectomy in April 2008 and have recovered well.  I would love to be part of a support group to give and get support and the occasional kick in the bottom if needed.
